High school roundup for Jan. 18, 2025: Montour boys take care of Mars

Colton Straight scored 24 points and Ama Sow followed with 23 to lead Montour to an 81-64 victory over Mars in Section 4-5A boys basketball Saturday.

Kaleb Platz added 16 points and teammate A.J. Alston chipped in 12 for the Spartans (12-1, 7-0). Will Wilson scored 18 points while Austin Wroblewski added 17 for the Fightin’ Planets (8-7, 4-3).

Ambridge 74, Carlynton 64 – Adam Fernandez scored 28 points to lead Ambridge (2-11) past Carlynton (7-8) in a nonsection game. Jared Astorino added 23 points for the Bridgers. Damien Holloway had 20 points to lead Carlynton while Mike Jenkins contributed 14 and Devonte Dean had 12.

Chartiers Valley 76, Thomas Jefferson 48 – At the Challenge at Allderdice, Jayden Davis scored 26 points to lead Chartiers Valley (14-1) over Thomas Jefferson (6-8). Julian Semplice added 16 points for the Colts, who won their eighth consecutive game. Nick Trklja scored 12 points for Thomas Jefferson.

Cheswick Christian Academy 63, Pittsburgh Christian Academy 52 – Joseph Rosio and Brady Rochkind scored 20 points apiece as Cheswick Christian Academy (8-5) moved into sole possession of first place in the Southwestern Christian Athletic Conference Greater Pittsburgh Division. Finn Bradley scored 19 points and Cory Critchfield added 10 for Pittsburgh Christian.

Keystone Oaks 50, South Park 39 – Erond Jakupi had 16 points for Keystone Oaks (11-4) in a nonsection win against South Park (10-4). Joey Colton added 14 points for Keystone Oaks while Cooper Hochendoner led South Park with 14 points.

McDowell 61, Pine-Richland 56 – Kamden Kramer scored 18 points to lead McDowell to a nonsection win. Grant Spacciapolli and Emery Moye scored 13 points apiece and Eli Catalano added 12 for Pine-Richland (5-9).

Moon 54, Allderdice 52 – Carter Tumulty scored 19 points and Braeden Stuart added 13 to lead Moon (12-3) at The Challenge at Allderdice. Lukas Stead scored 18 points, Asher Schwartz added 14 and Trey Schachter had 13 for the host Dragons (7-9).

Neighborhood Academy 58, Northgate 53 – Courtney Wallace had a triple-double with 22 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists to lead Neighborhood Academy (15-1) at The Challenge at Allderdice. Syncer Nicholson added 15 points and Kedron Gilmore had 12 for the Bulldogs. Kaden Kemp led Northgate (7-5) with 23 points.

Quaker Valley 91, Eden Christian 38 – Nic Cohen scored a career-high 26 points to lead Quaker Valley (10-4) to a nonsection win over Eden Christian (3-12). Kolton Johnson scored 18, Harrison Kerley added 15 and Dana Kromah chipped in 10 for the Quakers.

Seton LaSalle 64, Shady Side Academy 57 (OT) – Patrick Weldon went off for 32 points to lead Seton LaSalle (6-9, 3-2) to a Section 3-3A win in overtime. Seamus Riordan and Cam Mallory each scored 16 for Shady Side Academy (4-10, 2-2).

Girls basketball

Allderdice 61, Brentwood 14 – Bailey White scored 19 points and Peyton Lynch tallied 18 points as Allderdice (12-5) beat Brentwood (4-7) at the Challenge at Allderdice. Ryhan Sledge chipped in 11 points.

Central Valley 62, Farrell 30 – Emma Brown had 12 points and Izzy Miller had 11 as Central Valley (8-5) beat Farrell in nonsection play. Ja’Niva Daniels scored a game-high 22 points in the loss.

Geibel Catholic 54, West Greene 35 – In Section 2-A, Emma Larkin hit five 3-pointers and scored 33 points to lead Geibel Catholic (14-1, 7-1) to victory over West Greene (9-4, 3-4). Mallory Clemmer added 14 points in the win. Madelyn Roberts scored 14 points and sank four 3-pointers for West Greene and Kentra Tharp contributed 11 points.

Keystone Oaks 46, Seton LaSalle 42 – Laney Wagner scored 29 points to lead Keystone Oaks (11-1, 5-1) past Seton LaSalle (10-3, 6-1) in a battle of top teams in Section 3-3A. Tiara Curry led Seton LaSalle with 17 points and Amari Elliot chipped in 12.

Mars 56, Montour 49 – Alexis Cashdollar scored 18 points and Vita Vargo followed with 17 to power Mars (8-6, 3-3) to a Section 3-5A win over Montour (6-8, 1-5). Mya Moore chipped in 11 for the Fightin’ Planets.

Moon 50, Pine-Richland 42 – Jaedin Griggs scored 27 points to lead Moon (9-4) to the nonsection win against Pine-Richland (4-10). Cate Gentile scored 16 points to lead Pine-Richland while Rebekah Shaffer contributed 11.

Mt. Lebanon 52, Cathedral Prep 27 – In nonsection play, Payton Collins had 16 points as Mt. Lebanon (8-7) beat Cathedral Prep. Anessa Donoghue added 11 points for Mt. Lebanon while teammate Cali Green chipped in 10 points. Cathedral Prep’s Seana Thrower scored 20 of her team’s 27 points.

Olentangy (OH) 56, Peters Township 39 – Whitney Stafford had 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead Olentangy at the Classic in the City in Ohio. Bri Morreale scored 15 points and Natalie Wetzel added 13 for Peters Township (13-2).

Pittsburgh Christian Academy 50, Cheswick Christian Academy 20 – Dannah Sebelia scored 37 points to lead Pittsburgh Christian. Grace Kostick scored 12 for Cheswick Christian (1-2).

Riverview 48, Deer Lakes 38 – Katerina Tsambis led all scorers with 23 points and Isabel Chaparro hit five 3-pointers for 15 points to lead Riverview (8-3) to a nonsection win. Josie Farster scored 14 points and Anna Clark added 12 for Deer Lakes (10-5).

Shaler 48, North Allegheny 44 – Reese Smetanka had 16 points and Bayleigh Perez added 11 points, six assists and four steals as Shaler (13-2, 5-1) beat North Allegheny (5-8, 3-2) in nonsection play. North Allegheny’s Vange Balouris led all scorers with 26 points.

Union 54, Laurel 27 – Kylie Fruehstorfer scored 17 points as Union (14-0) doubled up Laurel (6-10) in nonsection play. Shyan Tindall recorded nine points in the loss.

Upper St. Clair 63, Chartiers Valley 43 – Rylee Kalocay scored 33 points to lead Upper St. Clair (12-2) to the nonsection win against Chartiers Valley (10-6). Ryan Prunzik chipped in 13 points for the Panthers, who won their ninth straight game. Emma Reynolds had 13 points for Chartiers Valley.

Wrestling

Brookville Ultimate Duals – Calio Zanella and Cam Baker picked up their 100th career wins as Burrell went 4-1. The Bucs beat Frazier (60-13), Penn-Trafford (55-12), Chestnut Ridge (50-21) and Brookville (48-21) and lost to Reynolds (33-30).
