RJ Sledge scored 35 points as Trib HSSN Class 6A No. 1 Imani Christian avoided an upset with a 72-68 victory over Hempfield in Section 2-6A boys basketball Thursday night.
Deston Hubbard added 13 and Donovan Gordon had 10 for the Saints (6-2, 4-0). Drew Gordon scored 17, Daniel Husenits added 16 and Max Williams contributed 14 for the Spartans (6-5, 1-3).
St. Joseph 58, Western Beaver 44 – Gabe Maltese scored 18 points, Ryan McCarthy had 16 and Ben Bartolovic added 13 to lead St. Joseph (5-4, 1-0) to a Section 2-A win. Nathan Schwerz scored 21 points and Jackson Liller had 13 for Western Beaver (2-8, 0-4).
Girls basketball
Aquinas Academy 50, St. Joseph 31 – Tess Duer scored 13 points, Elliot Keverline had 11 and Becca Guillen added 10 to lead Aquinas Academy (5-4, 3-1) to a Section 1-A win. Bella Bartolovic scored 13 points for St. Joseph (7-4, 3-1).
Armstrong 31, Gateway 19 – Amylia Gaiser scored nine points for Armstrong (2-8, 1-3) in a Section 1-5A win. Ashley Griffith scored six points for Gateway (0-7, 0-3).
Baldwin 74, Albert Gallatin 27 – Lynsey Bernotas scored 23 points, Isabella Niles had 11 and Kelsey Meyers added 10 to lead Baldwin (5-6, 1-2) to a Section 4-5A win. Mya Glisan scored 15 points for Albert Gallatin (4-5, 0-4).
Blackhawk 61, Central Valley 37 – Aubree Hupp scored 18 points and Andrea Kinger and Ava Pagani added 10 points apiece to lead Blackhawk (10-2, 4-0) to a Section 2-4A win. Nyah Hayes scored 13 points for Central Valley (5-3, 1-1).
Carlynton 45, Northgate 19 – Carlee Hughes scored 16 points and Jocelyn Griffin contributed 11 to send Carlynton (5-5, 1-1) past Northgate (0-11, 0-2) in Section 2-2A. Hope Statler led the Flames with 12 points.
Carrick 30, Hillel Academy 15 – Jocelyn Fisher scored 13 points to lead Carrick (5-5) to a nonsection win over Hillel Academy.
Chartiers-Houston 57, California 23 – Ella Richey scored 12 points and Ava Capozzoli followed with 11 to help Chartiers-Houston (7-1, 2-0) past California (3-3, 1-1) in Section 3-2A.
Clairton 52, Bishop Canevin 43 – Iyanna Wade scored 27 points and Karma Fuqua added 15 to lead Clairton (6-2, 4-0) to a Section 2-A win. Kya Cooley scored 17 points and Isabella Sysak had 11 for Bishop Canevin (5-4, 1-3).
Deer Lakes 39, Ligonier Valley 24 – Josie Farster scored 15 points and Delaney DeRose added nine to lead Deer Lakes (8-2, 3-1) past Ligonier Valley (2-6, 1-3) in Section 2-3A. Adleigh Myers led the Rams with nine points.
Elizabeth Forward 61, Belle Vernon 43 – Michelle Jellison scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures for Elizabeth Forward (7-3, 4-0) in Section 3-4A. Kaelynn Settles added 14 and Chloe Zombek and McKenna Bittner had 11 each for the Warriors. Aubrey Brown scored 20 for Belle Vernon (4-7, 2-2).
Ellwood City 65, Mohawk 30 – Delaney Sturgeon led with 24 points, Kayla Jones followed with 22 and Caitlyn Kreitzer added 13 for Ellwood City (6-4, 2-2) in a Section 1-3A win. Makenna Stewart scored eight points for Mohawk (3-6, 2-2).
Fort Cherry 51, Brentwood 18 – Brooke Cornali scored 16 points to lead Fort Cherry (8-2, 2-0) to a Section 2-2A win. Ay’maree Henry led Brentwood (2-6, 0-2) with 10 points.
Freedom 43, Shenango 26 – Mackenzie Mohrbacher led with 14 points and Brianne Casto chipped in 12 points for Freedom (3-6, 1-1) in a Section 1-2A win. Ella Ferrell had 12 for Shenango (1-8, 0-1).
Freeport 56, Valley 42 – Lilly Holloway scored 18 points and Maggie Conger added 12 to lead Freeport (3-8, 2-2) to a Section 1-4A win. Janelle Norman scored 17 and Neveah Lyle added 11 for Valley (1-10, 0-4).
Geibel Catholic 54, Avella 49 – Mallory Clemmer led with 19 points, Ava Henderson followed with 15 and Janiah Darnell added 11 for Geibel Catholic (10-1, 3-1) in a Section 2-A win. Ava Frank scored 27 points for Avella (6-5, 2-2).
Hampton 41, Lincoln Park 34 – Maria Nyilas scored 12 points to help Hampton (8-3, 3-1) to a Section 2-4A win. Patty Weselowski scored 13 and Brooke Certo chipped in 10 for Lincoln Park (2-5, 0-1).
Hempfield 69, Connellsville 37 – Led by 17 points from Reagan Fisher, 15 from Allie Cervola and 14 from Mads Pevarnik, Hempfield (7-3, 1-1) handled Connellsville (3-9, 0-2) in Section 1-6A.
Highlands 50, Derry 46 – Tyarah Woody scored 35 points to lead Highlands (2-8, 1-3) to a comeback win in Section 1-4A. The Golden Rams trailed 25-16 at halftime. Jane Huss scored 27 points for Derry (3-6, 1-3).
Indiana 50, Greensburg Salem 42 – Julia Antonacci scored 16 points, Stella Stossel added 12 and Emily Betsinger had 11 to push Indiana (9-2, 3-0) past Greensburg Salem (7-4, 1-3) in a Section 2-5A win. Mya Heasley scored 19 points for the Golden Lions.
Keystone Oaks 59, Charleroi 35 – Laney Wagner scored 18 points and Hannah York added 14 to lead Keystone Oaks (8-1, 2-1) to a Section 3-3A win. Eden Smith scored 11 points for Charleroi (0-13, 0-4).
Latrobe 60, Kiski Area 30 – Carley Berk scored 21 points and Brylee Bodnar and Emmy Bridge chipped in 10 points apiece to lead Latrobe (7-5, 3-1) to a Section 2-5A win. Gianna DeVito led Kiski Area (6-4, 1-2) with eight points.
McGuffey 57, Brownsville 55 – Taylor Schumacher scored 28 points and Lexi Ewig added 13 to lead McGuffey (7-3, 2-1) to a Section 3-3A win. Maura Janovich scored eight points for Brownsville (5-4, 1-3).
North Catholic 47, Burrell 24 – Brady Wehner scored 11 points to lead North Catholic (8-2, 4-0) past Burrell (7-4, 2-2) in Section 1-4A. McKenna Miller and Jules Fisher each scored seven points to lead the Bucs.
Quaker Valley 47, Riverside 24 – Mimi Thiero scored 23 points and Keira Watson chipped in 15 to help Quaker Valley (4-6, 2-2) past Riverside (7-5, 2-2) in Section 1-3A.
Riverview 48, Apollo-Ridge 41 – Katerina Tsambis scored 22 points and Isabel Chaparro added 18 to push Riverview (6-2, 2-0) to a Section 4-2A win. Madison Hughley scored 11 points for Apollo-Ridge (2-8, 0-2).
Rochester 62, Laurel 29 – Tia Yellock scored 16 points to lead Rochester (6-5, 2-0) past Laurel (4-7, 0-2) in Section 1-2A. Marque taylor added 12, Kamryn Newman 11 and Nevaeh Squires 10 for the Rams.
Serra Catholic 72, Mapletown 15 – Bella Dumbrowski poured in 33 points to lead Serra Catholic (4-5, 3-1) past Mapletown (2-10, 0-4) in Section 2-A. Abby Genes added 13 and Kendalyn Niedermeyer 12 for the Eagles.
Sewickley Academy 37, Western Beaver 27 – Emma Eannarino hit for 20 points to power Sewickley Academy (3-5, 2-2) to a Section 1-A win. Taraji Backur scored nine points for Western Beaver (3-6, 1-3).
Shady Side Academy 77, Steel Valley 14 – Karis Thomas scored 16 points, Cassie Sauer had 14 and Leah Buford added 12 to lead Shady Side Academy (11-0, 4-0) to a Section 2-3A win over Steel Valley (1-9, 1-3).
South Allegheny 40, East Allegheny 25 – Jaz Farnan scored 18 points and Ella Lotz chipped in 10 to lead South Allegheny (1-8, 1-2) in Section 2-3A. Dezlyn Clary scored 11 for East Allegheny (1-7, 0-4).
South Fayette 63, Moon 39 – Haylie Lamonde scored 21 points to power South Fayette (10-1, 4-0) to a Section 3-5A victory. Ella Vierra added 14, Ryan Oldaker 12 and Lailah Wright 11 for the Lions. Jaedin Griggs led Moon (5-4, 1-2) with 22 points.
West Greene 48, Monessen 14 – Madelyn Roberts scored 20 points to lead West Greene (7-2, 2-2) to a Section 2-A win. Madison Johnson scored 12 points for Monessen (3-5, 1-3).
Yough 61, Southmoreland 41 – Hailey Bock scored 22 points and Brooke Weiland added 14 to lead Yough (8-3, 3-1) to a Section 3-4A win. Ashley Seder scored 13 points and Olivia Aumer had 10 for Southmoreland (3-8, 1-3).
Wrestling
Fox Chapel 57, Pine-Richland 16 – Michael Worsen (121), Daniel Noel (133), Calyx Kimbrough (152), Milo Chiu (160) and Joseph Geller (215) recorded first-period pins to lead Fox Chapel (7-2) to a nonsection win. Luke Montgonery (114) and Samuel Ummer (145) also won by fall, Landon Funk (127) earned a technical fall and Jack Viti (189) won by major decision for the Foxes. Bennett Ferraro (107) won by pin and Dominic Ferraro (139) and Mac Miller (172) recorded tech falls for Pine-Richland (3-7).
Hockey
Bethel Park 2, North Allegheny 1 – Jack Hartman had a goal and an assist, including the tie-breaking goal in the third period, to lead Bethel Park (4-9) to a Class 3A win. Ezra Kozak also scored and Kevin Teamann made 15 saves. Tyler Biachin scored for North Allegheny (6-4).
Blackhawk 3, Beaver 2 – Finn Conlon, Dylan Leiper and Tyler Syka scored a goal apiece to lead Blackhawk (7-5) to a Class A win. Colin Justice and Sammy Mecchia scored for Beaver (2-8-1).
Bishop Canevin 7, Knoch 3 – Brian Kalanish scored a hat trick and added an assist and Kamil Nurulin collected a goal and two assists to lead Bishop Canevin (7-5) to a Division 2 win. Jack Lyons and Jayden Martincic each had a goal and an assist. Mick Ritts, Nico SAvannah and Kevin Justi scored for Knoch (7-4-1).
Burrell 8, Central Valley 0 – Mike Morazcyzk had a hat trick and added an assist to lead Burrell (11-2-1) past Central Valley (4-8) in Division 2. Luke Mink had two goals and two assists and Julian Kemp added a goal and three assists for Burrell.
Gateway 7, Wilmington 6 (OT) – Connor Olson scored the overtime winner and CJ Evans had a hat trick to lead Gateway (5-7-1) to a Division 2 win. Hayden Nadeau and Brendan Luptak each had a goal and an assist for Gateway. Anthony Popovich collected three goals and two assists and Alex Rodgers had a goal and three assists for Wilmington (1-9-1).
Latrobe 7, Bishop McCort 2 – Joey Crimboli had two goals and an assist and Jackson Hayburn also scored twice for Latrobe (10-2) in a Class 2A win. Bryant Dumnich and Preston Miller each had a goal and an assist and Jaxson Kettering also scored for Latrobe. Mark Pazniak scored twice for Bishop McCort (6-5-1).
Montour 7, Greensburg Salem 4 – Aiden Moskovitz racked up three goals and three assists, Thomas Barefoot had two goals and two assists and Cole Dallas collected a goal and four assists to help Montour (9-4) to a Class A win. Jake Fink scored a hat trick and Jeremiah Faulk added a goal and an assist for Greensburg Salem (4-8).
Morgantown 14, Sewickley Academy 1 – Jacob Hollander collected three goals and two assists and Ayden Shepard had two goals and three assists for Morgantown (13-1) in a Division 2 win. Geno Valenti had two goals and two assists and John DiBartolomeo added a goal and three assists. CJ Wright scored for Sewickley Academy (0-12-1).
North Hills 4, Indiana 3 (SO) – Jonathan Trosky’s second goal of the game tied the score in the third period, helping North Hills (7-6) to a shootout win in Class A. Domenic Renneback also scored and Parker Talerico made 39 saves for North Hills. Mike Dubetskey, Grayson Brunetto and Zdeno Dzuro scored and Luke Rowe made 45 saves for Indiana (5-5-3).
Penn-Trafford 6, Baldwin 1 – Robert Thatcher and Marco Ferraccio each had two goals and an assist to lead Penn-Trafford (11-2-1) to a Class 2A win. Ben Zierski had a goal and two assists and Cam Kiste added a goal and an assist. Nate Buys scored for Baldwin (3-8-1).
Ringgold 3, Elizabeth Forward 2 – Brady Lippert scored the game-winning goal with 2:27 left in the third period to lead Ringgold (9-4) to a Division 2 victory. Benito Pesi and Landon Vacarro each had a goal and an assist for Ringgold. Bobby Boord Jr. had a goal and an assist and Patrick Malandra also scored for Elizabeth Forward (7-5).
Seneca Valley 2, Upper St. Clair 1 – Andrew Malichky broke a third-period tie, Braden Morin also scored and Christopher Nicholas made 24 saves to lead Seneca Valley (9-1) to a Class 3A win. Drew Lisak scored and Owen Laurent made 35 saves for Upper St. Clair (6-6-1).
Wheeling Central Catholic 6, McDowell 3 – Aden Cooey scored four goals and Logan Pielech added two goals and two assists for Wheeling Central Catholic (7-6-1) in a Class A win. Dylan Payne scored late in the second period to give McDowell (5-7) a 3-2 lead.
Wheeling Park 5, Avonworth 4 (OT) – Kaden Schnarr scored the game winning goal in overtime for Wheeling Park (7-2-1) in a Class A win. Luke Simonetti, Gavin Hudrlik, Landon Szazynski and Kaden Lyons also scored for Wheeling Park. Cooper Powell scored two goals for Avonworth (9-3).
