High school roundup for Jan. 27, 2026: Liam Sheely scores 31 off the bench in Mt. Lebanon win

Coming off the bench, Liam Sheely scored 31 points for the second straight game, leading Mt. Lebanon to a 55-51 victory over Norwin in Section 2-6A boys basketball Tuesday night.

Sheely, who made six 3-pointers, went over the 1,000-point mark for his career and had a 39-point game earlier in the season. Jake Zabor added 10 points for Mt. Lebanon (12-6, 6-5). Alex Graney had 16 points and Mario Csukas 11 for the Knights (9-9, 4-6).

Aliquippa 56, Riverside 39 – Camden Evanochko led with 19 points, Anthony Ingram followed with 12 and DeJuan Hill added 10 for Aliquippa (12-3, 8-1) in a Section 1-3A win. Cole Becker scored 13 points and Dylan Meyer had 12 for Riverside (12-6, 4-5).

Aquinas Academy 95, Cornell 70 – Jonah Burchill led with 26 points, Sam Duer followed with 21 and Henry Hynds and Jack Stanton added 11 points apiece for Aquinas Academy (8-8, 5-2) in a Section 1-A win. Eduardo Benitez scored 40 points for Cornell (4-13, 2-5).

Beth-Center 59, Carmichaels 56 – Jason Zellie scored 17 points, Brayden Hull had 16 and Brayden Ozohonish added 15 to push Beth-Center (10-8, 6-5) to a Section 3-2A win. Chase Ankrom scored 15 points and Alex Toth had 14 for Carmichaels (3-14, 2-9).

Chartiers-Houston 65, Burgettstown 37 – Aaron Walsh scored 14 points, Wesley Yeater added 12 and Bryson Boskovich finished with 10 for Chartiers-Houston (16-3, 11-0) in a Section 3-2A win. Lance Duran put up 15 for Burgettstown (5-14, 2-9).

Gateway 50, Albert Gallatin 48 – Mykel Bruce-McCrommon led all scorers with 21 points and Jax Vovaris added 10 for Gateway (12-6, 10-1) in a Section 1-5A win. Adam Pegg scored 17 points and Elliot Sines buried 11 for Albert Gallatin (2-15, 0-11).

Hopewell 63, Beaver 54 – James “Booboo” Armstrong dropped 21 points, Brody Rock added 13, Justin Shegog followed with 11 and Tre Cameron finished with 10 as Hopewell (12-7, 4-3) beat Beaver (5-12, 1-6) in Section 2-4A. Logan Weiland put up 14 points, Junior Marino scored 12 and Jake Peluso chipped in 11 for the Bobcats.

Jefferson-Morgan 50, West Greene 39 – Jeremiah Robertson scored 22 points and Dayten Marion had 14 to lead Jefferson-Morgan (17-1, 10-1) to a Section 3-2A win. Matt Wassil scored 14 points for West Greene (6-11, 5-6).

Laurel 77, Rochester 50 – Mason Ernst put up 26 points and Tyrone Kunselman produced 18 to lead Laurel (12-7, 7-4) to a Section 4-2A win over Rochester (2-16, 2-9). Jace Garuccio scored 18 points and Max Lyons finished with 13 for the Rams.

Moon 70, Blackhawk 36 – Caden Kopay put up 15 points, Jackson Bauman followed with 13 and Caleb Waclawski had 11 as Moon (15-3, 6-3) defeated Blackhawk (6-14, 0-10) in Section 4-5A. Marco Fusetti dropped 21 points and Carter Davis added 10 for the Cougars.

New Castle 45, Seneca Valley 39 – Chase Lemmon scored 12 points while Qualin Davis, Kai Cox and Marino Graham each contributed nine points for New Castle (17-0, 11-0) in a Section 1-6A win. Owen Congdon dropped 14 points and Andrew Omasits added 12 for Seneca Valley (10-8, 5-6).

North Catholic 59, Burrell 41 – Jason Fredericks scored 24 points, including four 3-pointers, and Brandon Pickett added 19 points to help North Catholic (14-4, 7-2) in Section 1-4A. DJ Cosentino scored 12, Sam Conte 11 and Gavyn Orr 10 for Burrell (8-11, 4-6).

OLSH 78, Western Beaver 31 – Jake Johnson led with 23 points and Tiernan McCullough followed with 14 for OLSH (14-4, 9-1) in a Section 4-2A win. Nate Schwarz scored 10 points for Western Beaver (2-16, 0-10).

Plum 65, Bethel Park 49 – Bryce Nabozny scored 26 points and Mekhi Samuels added 18 to lead Plum (5-13) to a nonsection win. Will Thomas scored 19 points for Bethel Park (2-16).

Shenango 66, Union 38 – Taegan Russo scored 26 points and Jaxon Webster had 11 for Shenango (12-5, 6-5) in a Section 4-2A win. Landon Eckert scored 11 points for Union (7-12, 5-6).

South Fayette 59, Baldwin 55 – Tyson Wright scored 17 points, Braeden Plasko had 16 and Owen Keener added 12 to lead South Fayette (8-10, 6-4) to a Section 3-5A win. Max Marzina scored 18 points and Sadiq Anderson had 13 for Baldwin (9-8, 3-6).

Girls basketball

Blackhawk 78, Central Valley 34 – Aubree Hupp hit for 31 points to lead Blackhawk (17-0, 10-0) to a Section 2-4A win. Grace Huston hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points and Grace Sehn added 12 points for the Cougars. Caroline Spirank scored 22 to lead Central Valley (4-13, 2-7).

Canon-McMillan 47, Mt. Lebanon 36 – Lauren Borella produced 11 points and Madison Clair followed with 10 as Canon-McMillan (14-4, 6-1) beat Mt. Lebanon (4-12, 2-5) in Section 2-6A. Cali Green paced the Blue Devils with 15 points.

Chartiers Valley 63, New Castle 27 – Jenna Sexton scored 11 points to lead Chartiers Valley (8-12, 7-3) to a Section 3-5A win. Rhiauna Brothers led New Castle (0-19, 0-9) with 16 points.

North Catholic 59, Burrell 51 – Lauren Reitz had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Brady Wehner and Harmony Jones finished with 14 points each for North Catholic (12-5, 7-2) in a Section 1-4A win. Casey Brancato led all scorers with 24 points and Chase Coury had 13 for Burrell (12-6, 6-3).

Sewickley Academy 55, Western Beaver 23 – Emma Eannarino scored 22 points to power Sewickley Academy (10-8, 7-4) past Western Beaver (6-11, 3-8) in Section 1-A. Nina Caputo added 13 and Athena Ameredes had 11 for the Panthers.

South Fayette 81, Moon 37 – Haylie Lamonde put up 31 points and Juliette Leroux followed with 17 to power South Fayette (18-1, 10-0) to a Section 3-5A victory. Maria Depner led Moon (6-11, 2-7) with 19.

Union 65, Springdale 19 – Maddie Settle put up 14 points and Maggie Joseph added 10 to send Union (15-4, 9-2) to a Section 1-A victory. Talia Brunck led Springdale (3-14, 2-8) with seven points.

West Allegheny 49, Bethel Park 45 – Sky Gubba scored 13 points and Ella Smith and Emma Ruperto added 11 points apiece to lead West Allegheny (14-4) to a nonsection win. Fiona O’Neill scored 17 points and Kat Boff had 12 for Bethel Park (11-7).

Hockey

Beaver 4, Richland 0 – Sammy Mecchia had two goals, Brady George added a goal and an assist, Colin Justice also scored and Owen Honey made 25 saves to lead Beaver (6-9-1) past Richland (2-15) in Class A.

Central Valley 6, Trinity 5 – Treyton Palocsik scored a hat trick, Connor Svaranowic buried two goals and Michael Crea added a goal as Central Valley (3-10-2) defeated Trinity (9-5) in Division 2. Seamus Coyle had a hat trick and Zach Jiblits added two goals for the Hillers.

Hempfield 11, Bishop McCort 4 – Nino DiPietro recorded a hat trick while Mats Martz and Andrew Bryant each deposited a pair of goals to power Hempfield (15-2) to a Class 2A win. Colbey Herron, Nick Crupie, Jonathan Holtzman and JJ Williams scored a goal apiece for the Spartans. Vasily Smirnov, Mark Pazniak, Isaiah Lieb and Ben Cannizzaro scored for Bishop McCort (9-8).

Morgantown 5, McDowell 0 – Cooper Cox collected two goals and three assists, Justin Daffner and Luke Quigley each had a goal and an assist and Cooper Hellen dished out three assists to lead Morgantown (11-3-1) past McDowell (4-11) in Division 2.

Wrestling

West Shamokin 43, Knoch 19 – Matthew Shaffer (107), EJ Powers (139), Tucker Walker (189) and Elijah Harkleroad (215) had pins to lead West Shamokin (6-9) to a nonsection win. Bearin Powers (145) earned a major decision and Ryan Booher (172) a decision in the victory. Jarrett Crowe (133) won by fall, Cole Haugh (127) by major decision and Brayden McGowan (152) by decision for Knoch (4-8).
