High school roundup for Jan. 29, 2026: Geibel Catholic’s Emma Larkin threatens WPIAL single-game scoring record

Emma Larkin scored the second-most points in a game in WPIAL girls basketball history Thursday night, finishing with 62 in a 106-19 Geibel Catholic victory over Mapletown (2-17, 1-10) in Section 2-A.

Larkin’s total tied with Wilkinsburg’s Maude Searcy (1990), just behind the 65 scored by Clairton’s Iyanna Wade in 2024.

Mallory Clemmer added 26 points and Alexa Morgan had 14 for the Gators (18-0, 11-0).

Avonworth 57, East Allegheny 15 – Bria Onyshko scored 15 points and Meg Obersteiner added 13 to lead Avonworth (9-9, 8-3) past East Allegheny (1-15, 0-11) in Section 2-3A.

Beaver 69, Central Valley 48 – Annsley Baker put up 30 points and Adison Miller contributed 13 to power Beaver (12-6, 7-2) to a Section 2-4A win. Caroline Spirnak scored 17 and Emma Brown had 16 for Central Valley (4-14, 2-8).

Beaver Falls 65, Mohawk 25 – Taylor Pullen and Dreaven Haskins scored 20 points apiece to lead Beaver Falls (19-0, 13-0) to a Section 1-3A win. Reagan Magno scored nine points for Mohawk (8-11, 5-7).

Belle Vernon 60, Laurel Highlands 37 – Emerson LaCarte scored 14 points, Saylor Lee had 12 and Lyla McConnell added 10 to lead Belle Vernon (17-3, 11-1) to a Section 3-4A win. Taylor Schwertfeger scored 16 points for Laurel Highlands (6-13, 4-7).

Beth-Center 45, Carmichaels 32 – Violet Trump scored 15 points and Alexia Fischer added 14 to lead Beth-Center (9-9, 5-3) to a Section 3-2A win. Ke’Lani Chun scored 14 points for Carmichaels (1-16, 0-6).

Blackhawk 67, Lincoln Park 45 – Aubree Hupp had a double-double with 33 points and 18 rebounds and Mia Sheesley added 14 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Blackhawk (18-0, 11-0) to a Section 2-4A victory. Ashtyn Michael scored 14 and Maddi Jannuzi had 10 for Lincoln Park (9-10, 4-5). Hupp set the Blackhawk career rebound record with 898, breaking the mark of 887 set by Courtney Vannoy in 2015.

California 50, Bentworth 38 – Lila Mitchell led with 22 points and Hayley Gibson added 12 to push California (8-8, 5-1) to a Section 3-2A win. Jocelyn Babirad scored 15 points for Bentworth (8-10, 3-4).

Canon-McMillan 59, Hempfield 41 – Lauren Borella scored 13 points to lead four players in double figures for Canon-McMillan (15-4, 7-1) in a Section 2-6A win over Hempfield (12-7, 2-5). Madison Clair and Sam Miller each had 12 and Brooke Stanton added 10 for the Big Macs. Reagan Fisher scored 16 for the Spartans.

Chartiers-Houston 56, Jefferson-Morgan 19 – Sophie Palone hit four 3-pointers and finished with 15 points and Ali Wingard added 12 points to lead Chartiers-Houston (15-3, 7-0) to a Section 3-2A win over Jefferson-Morgan (8-12, 1-7).

Elizabeth Forward 70, Ringgold 22 – Kaelynn Settles scored 25 points to lead Elizabeth Forward (14-5, 10-2) to a Section 3-4A win over Ringgold (8-9, 5-6).

Fort Cherry 52, Burgettstown 24 – Gianna Bianchini had 17 points and made five 3-pointers and Allison Litman added 11 points and 12 rebounds for Fort Cherry (13-5, 7-0) in a Section 2-2A win. Savanna Rush scored 11 points for Burgettstown (14-5, 5-2).

Fox Chapel 54, Franklin Regional 35 – Lyla Jablon put up 23 points to send Fox Chapel (11-8, 6-3) to a Section 1-5A victory. Alyssa Bridges led Franklin Regional (8-10, 5-5) with 11 points.

Greensburg Central Catholic 82, Ligonier Valley 26 – Erica Gribble scored 27 points, Jayla Peterson followed with 23 and Abby Dlugos chipped in 11 to send Greensburg Central Catholic (13-5, 10-1) to a Section 2-3A win. Ruby Smith led Ligonier Valley (4-13, 3-7) with 11 points.

Indiana 40, Latrobe 31 – Julia Antonacci and Laken Kugler scored 10 points each as Indiana (16-3, 8-1) rallied from a three-point halftime deficit in Section 2-5A. Maggie Maiers led Latrobe (9-6, 6-4) with 10.

Keystone Oaks 52, Brownsville 23 – Hannah York led Keystone Oaks (11-7, 6-4) with 23 points and Kylie Brannon added 11 in a Section 3-3A win. Ava Clark scored 17 points for Brownsville (5-14, 0-10).

Mars 44, Moon 42 – Alexis Cashdollar scored 14 points, Cecilia Christy added 11 and Karmella Vigliotti had nine on three 3-pointers to lead Mars (6-11, 3-6) in a tightly contested Section 3-5A matchup. Jaedin Griggs hit the 1,000-point mark for Moon (6-12, 2-8). Maria Depner and Maddie Wilson each had 11 points for the Tigers.

Mt. Pleasant 33, Southmoreland 28 – Ryleigh Drzal scored 15 points and Danica Trainer added 10 to lead Mt. Pleasant (8-10, 5-6) to a Section 3-4A win. Ashley Seder scored 16 points for Southmoreland (1-18, 1-11).

Neshannock 93, Freedom 14 – Nina Medure scored 20 points, Payton Newman had 17 and Jaidon Nogay added 14 for Neshannock (14-3, 7-0) in a Section 1-2A win over Freedom (3-14, 0-7).

Norwin 41, Mt. Lebanon 26 – Nia O’Barto and Aubrey Graney scored 14 points apiece as Norwin (15-3, 7-1) avenged its only Section 2-6A loss. Anessa Donoghue scored nine points for Mt. Lebanon (4-13, 2-6).

OLSH 41, Riverside 39 – Lola Garner scored 15 points and Macie Trombetta and Leah Parker added 10 points apiece to lead OLSH (13-5, 7-4) to a Section 1-3A win. Emma Meyer scored 15 points and Addison Drake had 12 for Riverside (12-6, 6-6).

Pine-Richland 61, North Hills 41 – Mia LeDonne scored 15 points, Rebekah Shaffer had 14 and Claire Cook added 11 to lead Pine-Richland (12-7, 6-1) to a Section 1-6A win. Casey Devlin scored 16 points and Delaney Amato had 13 for North Hills (6-10, 3-4).

Quaker Valley 58, New Brighton 8 – Mimi Thiero connected for 26 points and Keira Watson added 11 to lead Quaker Valley (12-6, 9-2) past New Brighton (0-18, 0-12) in Section 1-3A.

Riverview 48, Frazier 39 – Blake Huffman scored nine points to lead a balanced scoring effort for Riverview (9-6, 5-2) in a Section 4-2A win. Allie Yauch scored 20 for Frazier (4-11, 1-5). The Raiders rallied from 10 points down after one quarter.

Shady Side Academy 62, Deer Lakes 17 — Cassie Sauer scored 20 points and Karis Thomas added 15 to lead Shady Side Academy (15-2, 10-0) to a Section 2-3A win over Deer Lakes (9-8, 6-5).

South Fayette 72, New Castle 10 – Payton Galish scored 16 points to lead South Fayette (19-1, 11-0) to a Section 3-5A win. Rhianna Brothers scored seven points for New Castle (0-20, 0-10).

South Park 67, Yough 27 – Hayley Bennett led with 15 points, Nika Contakos followed with 13 and Bella Stromberg added 11 for South Park (12-7, 9-2) in a Section 3-4A win over Yough (7-12, 1-10).

Sto-Rox 49, Ellwood City 38 – Allison Dotson scored 15 points and Arianna Johnston added 13 to push Sto-Rox (8-8, 5-6) to a Section 1-3A win. Teegan Patterson scored 14 points and Jayden Allwine had 11 for Ellwood City (3-18, 2-11).

Upper St. Clair 65, Connellsville 39 – Ryan Prunzik hit for 24 points and Kat Polstyanko added 16 for Upper St. Clair (9-10, 4-4) in Section 2-6A. Saige Mickens scored 21 and Maggie Orndorff chipped in 10 for Connellsville (5-13, 1-6).

Waynesburg 54, McGuffey 47 – Emma Blair and Tess Pauley scored 16 points apiece to help Waynesburg (15-2, 7-2) to a Section 3-3A win. Maura Janovich scored 13 and Eliana Janovich added 11 for McGuffey (11-8, 6-3).

West Greene 37, Bishop Canevin 29 – Sammi Zimmerman scored 11 points and Madelyn Roberts added 10 to lead West Greene (12-5, 7-3) to a Section 2-A win. Isabella Sysak scored 13 points and Kya Cooley had 10 for Bishop Canevin (6-11, 5-6).

Winchester Thurston 70, Ellis School 34 – Jasmine Hollins led with 24 points, Aleah Cooper followed with 20 and DaShae Cochran added 16 for Winchester Thurston (14-2, 7-0) in a Section 4-2A win. Angelina Jones scored 12 points and Selah Cyrus and Syree Spencer had 11 points apiece for Ellis School (2-11, 0-6).

Boys basketball

Cheswick Christian Academy 67, Trinity Christian 50 – Brady Rochkind had a double-double with 28 points and 15 rebounds, Joseph Rosio had a triple-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 steals and Sam Kostick chipped in 12 points to lead Cheswick Christian. Graham Hughes led Trinity Christian with 28 points.

Eden Christian 97, Leechburg 25 – Mason Dean scored 22 points to lead four players in double figures for Eden Christian (13-4, 8-2) in a Section 2-2A win. River Bartram had 17, Michael Sample 13 and Samuel D’Ippolito 10 for the Warriors. Connor Szymanski led Leechburg (3-15, 1-8) with 10.

Laurel Highlands 51, Franklin Regional 36 – Tyrone Burton scored 21 points and Luke Martin added 11 as Laurel Highlands (10-8, 4-7) pulled away in the second half of a Section 1-5A win. Logan Walter scored 11 for Franklin Regional (11-6, 7-4).

Neighborhood Academy 73, Environmental Charter 19 – Kedron Gilmore scored 38 points and Dante Wright added 12 to help Neighborhood Academy (15-2, 7-0) past Environmental Charter (5-11, 0-7) in Section 2-A.

North Catholic 81, Highlands 43 – Jude Rottmann hit five 3-pointers and finished with 31 points to lead North Catholic (15-4, 9-1) to a Section 1-4A win. Jason Fredericks added 21 points and Brady Trout had 13 for the Trojans. Troy Bielak scored 11 and Ty Hall had 10 for Highlands (8-11, 2-7).

Pittsburgh Christian Academy 49, Westmoreland Christian Academy 31 – Eli Washington scored 17 points and Jeremiah Watson added 15 to lead Pittsburgh Christian Academy in the Southwestern Christian Athletic Conference. Hunter Morrison scored eight to lead Westmoreland Christian Academy.

Upper St. Clair 55, Connellsville 33 – Andrew Gaither scored 12 points to lead Upper St. Clair (17-1, 10-1) past Connellsville (5-14, 0-11) in Section 2-6A. Ryan Robbins and Luke Marchinsky added 10 each for the Panthers.

Hockey

Blackhawk 3, North Catholic 1 – Grant Shroads and Bryce Leiper each had a goal and an assist and Cooper Keister also scored to lead Blackhawk (12-5) to a Class A win. Renzo Sylvester scored for North Catholic (8-8-1).

Central Valley 12, Carrick 3 – Maddox Pagley scored a hat trick, Danny Duncan and Connor Wenzig scored two goals apiece and Luca Iannessa, Cameron McGuire and Caleb McQuaid each had a goal and an assist to lead Central Valley (4-10-2) to a Division 2 win. Kian Conroy, Landon Jeffrey and Ryan Miller scored for Carrick (3-12-1).

Connellsville 5, Ringgold 4 (SO) – Sam Denny scored twice, including the tying goal with 4:57 left in the third period, to lead Connellsville (13-4) to a shootout victory in Division 2. Mason Mazak and Matty Smith each had a goal and an assist in the win. Bruce Santina and Landon Vaccaro each scored twice and Mason Ribnicky made 42 saves for Ringgold (11-4-1).

Greensburg Salem 4, Westmont Hilltop 0 – Jake Fink had two goals and an assist and Hayden Henry made 11 saves to lead Greensburg Salem (7-9-2) past Westmont Hilltop (1-13) in Class A. Jeremiah Faulk and Luke Dieter each had a goal and an assist in the win.

McDowell 4, Elizabeth Forward 3 – Dylan Payne scored twice, Brayden Burnette added a goal and an assist and Ross Triola also had a goal as McDowell (5-11) held off Elizabeth Forward (4-11) in Division 2. Tony Harrah had a hat trick and Luke Forbes dished out two assists for EF. Dillon Martin made 34 saves for McDowell. Andrew Weir stopped 33 shots for Elizabeth Forward.

Morgantown 7, Trinity 6 – Cooper Cox had two goals and an assist, Cameron Smith and Justin Daffner each added a goal and an assist and Cooper Hellen dished out three assists to help Morgantown (12-3-1) to a Division 2 win. Seamus Coyle scored a hat trick and added an assist, Zach Jiblits had a goal and two assists and Ian Vranek added a goal and an assist for Trinity (9-6).

North Allegheny 3, Seneca Valley 2 (SO) – Eddie Scherer and Joey Mitchell scored and Chris Costa made 29 saves to lead North Allegheny (10-4-3) to a shootout win in Class 3A. John Sroka III scored the tying goal with 3:23 to play and Leyton Moreau also had a goal for Seneca Valley (15-0-1).

South Fayette 4, Franklin Regional 2 – Nathaniel Keller had a goal and two assists, Dylan Mach added a goal and an assist and Mikhail Lobanov and Mason Vidak also scored for South Fayette (8-8) in Class 3A. Joey Casella and Liam Murphy scored for Franklin Regional (5-8-2).

Thomas Jefferson 2, Peters Township 1 (SO) – Owen Michaels scored the tying goal with 2:13 to play and Ben Balducci made 27 saves to lead Thomas Jefferson (9-6-1) to a shootout victory in Class 3A. Cole Neupaver scored and Anthony Herman made 19 saves for Peters Township (13-3-2).
