High school roundup for Jan. 7, 2026: Chartiers Valley gets past Lincoln Park in Class 5A showdown

Julian Semplice led all scorers with 23 points as Trib HSSN Class 5A No. 3 Chartiers Valley defeated No. 1 Lincoln Park, 62-57, in a Section 4-5A boys basketball showdown Wednesday night.

Luca Federico added 17 points and Julius Best poured in 15 for the Colts (10-1, 4-0). Amir Woods scored 18, Malcolm Frye finished with 12 and Damar Johnson added 11 for the Leopards (7-3, 3-1), who played without Josh and Jeremiah Pratt.

Brashear 63, Environmental Charter 43 – Ryan White produced 13 points, Trevon Rosario-Jones added 12 and Nasir Thomas finished with 10 for Brashear (1-3) in a nonsection win. Jeydan Morant put up 12 and Gerard Wiiliams followed with 10 for Environmental Charter (4-6).

Carrick 66, Valley 58 – Kejuan Johnson scored 20 points and Treshawn Beasley followed with 13 to power Carrick (7-6) to a nonsection win over Valley (2-10). Dawson Wall put up 16 points while Daelyn Moore and Kane Wilson each had 12 for the Vikings.

Eden Christian 57, Winchester Thurston 51 – Mason Dean dropped 24 points, Sam D’Ippolito added 14 and Michael Sample chipped in 10 as Eden Christian (8-3, 4-1) beat Winchester Thurston (9-4, 3-2) in Section 2-2A. Mike Hammerling put up 30 for the Bears.

Girls basketball

Avonworth 45, South Allegheny 15 – Megan Obersteiner scored 15 points and Bria Onyshko added 12 to lead Avonworth (4-7, 4-2) to a Section 2-3A win over South Allegheny (2-10, 2-4).

Kiski Area 58, Serra Catholic 46 – Gianna DeVito put up 22 points and Jada Blanciak added 20 to pace Kiski Area (7-3) in a nonsection win over Serra Catholic (6-3). Lexi Pearce scored 16 and Bella Dumbroski followed with 15 for the Eagles.

Riverside 56, Hopewell 52 – Emma Meyer sank six 3-pointers and finished with 27 points and Addison Drake added 13 to lead Riverside (8-4) to a nonsection win. Avery Boyd made four 3-pointers and had 21 points while Addison Blosnick contributed 11 for Hopewell (2-10).

South Fayette 74, Chartiers Valley 30 – Juliette Leroux dropped 19 points, Ryan Oldaker and Lailah Wright added 15 apiece and Haylie Lamonde followed with 14 as South Fayette (13-1, 6-0) cruised to a Section 3-5A win. Alyssa Davis scored 13 for Chartiers Valley (4-10, 3-2).

Uniontown 40, California 29 – Aierra Jenkins scored 20 points and Charley Murtha added 13 to send Uniontown (8-4) to a nonsection win. Hayley Gibson led California (5-7) with 10 points.

Yough 49, Derry 29 – Daisy Miller scored 10 points to power Yough (6-6) to a nonsection win over Derry (3-8). Carly Fitzgibbons added nine points for the Cougars.

Belle Vernon 50, West Mifflin 21 – Gracin Guglielmo (107), Brayden Broadwater (114), Rylee Doppelheuer (121), Eric Granato (145) and Vander Raczkowski (152) each recorded a pin while Enzo Ortolona (127) and Keadon Johnson (139) won by major decision as Belle Vernon (4-4, 2-1) topped West Mifflin (4-5, 0-2) in Section 7-3A. LaShawn Haley (133) and Caden Wills (172) recorded pins while Cooper Dietz (160) won by decision for the Titans.

Connellsville 52, Hempfield 15 – Jake Lilley (160) won by tech fall while Cooper Lembo (172), Dylan Lytle (189), Ryan Brown (215) and Roghan Hollis (285) each recorded pins as Connellsville (3-2, 1-0) won the first five bouts en route to a Section 8-3A win over Hempfield (4-3, 0-1). Nolan Rice (127) won a 3-0 decision, Daniel Smith (139) won a major decision and Kai Vielma (145) and Luke Lilley (152) won by tech falls for the Falcons. Nico Kapusta (121) won a 7-3 decision and Ty King (133) had a pin for the Spartans.

Ellwood City 48, New Castle 15 – Oliver Richards (121), Gavin McClure (139), Nathan Chandler (172) and Jaiden Delwader (215) all recorded pins to lead Ellwood City (4-1) to a nonsection win over New Castle (1-3). Jay Prowell (114) won by decision and Delano Williams (145) won by default for the Red Hurricanes.

Ellwood City 41, Summit Academy 30 – Braiden McClure (114), Gavin McClure (139), Lewis Leslie (152), Nathan Chandler (172) and Jaiden Delawder (215) won by fall to lead Ellwood City (4-1, 2-1) to a Section 4-2A win. Chase Lynch (160) and Elijah Riling (189) had pins for Summit Academy (1-1, 1-1).

Jefferson Morgan 60, Brownsville 4 – Caleb Dulaney (114), Connor Pinchok (127), EJ Lingenfield (139), Alek Palko (172) and Landon Heath (285) all recorded pins as Jefferson Morgan (9-0, 2-0) defeated Brownsville (3-2, 1-2) in Section 3-2A. Kody Gates (145) won by major decision for the Falcons.

Keystone Oaks 60, Carlynton 9 – Jonah Hostutler (127) recorded a pin as Keystone Oaks (6-3, 1-0) rolled to a Section 6-2A win over Carlynton (0-1, 0-1). Thomas Gargis (152) won a decision for the Cougars.

Kiski Area 63, Hampton 9 – Kiski Area (13-1, 2-0) won 10 of 11 contested bouts to cruise to a Section 5-3A win.
