High school roundup for Jan. 8, 2026: Neshannock girls dominate battle for 1st place

Jaidon Nogay, Payton Newman and Maddie Arrow scored 16 points apiece to lead Neshannock to an 89-35 victory over Rochester in a matchup of the top two teams in the Section 1-2A girls basketball standings Thursday night.

Sophia Bonner chipped in 12 for the Lancers (9-3, 4-0). Kamryn Newman scored 13 and Tia Yellock added 12 for Rochester (8-4, 3-1).

Apollo-Ridge 53, Frazier 27 – Mikaila Ditty scored 13 points and Madison Hughley added 11 to send Apollo-Ridge (6-8, 2-2) to a Section 4-2A victory. Allie Yauch led Frazier (4-6, 1-2) with 14 points.

Aquinas Academy 42, Eden Christian 30 – Tess Duer scored 24 points and Elliot Keverline added 11 to lead Aquinas Academy (9-1, 5-0) to a Section 1-A win. Annalese Haring scored 10 points for Eden Christian (6-4, 3-3).

Beaver Falls 86, Ellwood City 46 – Calasia Cannon led with 15 points and Dreaven Hasting, Zakiyah Slade and Tamera Eastelle added 13 points apiece to lead Beaver Falls (12-0, 6-0) to a Section 1-3A win. Carah Kreitzer scored 16 points and Jadyn Attwine had 13 for Ellwood City (2-12, 1-5). Jay’lynn Plum and Kiyah Tymons also scored 11 points apiece for the Tigers.

Belle Vernon 52, Mt. Pleasant 16 – Lyla McConnell scored 11 points and Aubrey Brown had 10 to lead Belle Vernon (9-3, 5-1) to a Section 3-4A win over Mt. Pleasant (6-7, 3-3).

Beth-Center 49, Bentworth 29 – Violet Trump scored 18 points and Bailey Bernot added 10 for Beth-Center (6-6, 3-1) in Section 3-2A. Nora Lindley scored 10 for Bentworth (6-6, 2-2).

Bishop Canevin 53, Avella 27 – Isabella Sysak led with 23 points and Kya Cooley added 16 for Bishop Canevin (4-7, 3-3) in a Section 2-A win. Madison Rush scored 10 points for Avella (4-9, 1-5).

Blackhawk 51, Hampton 19 – Aubree Hupp scored 20 points, Gracen Sehn added 12 and Grace Huston finished with 11 as Blackhawk (13-0, 6-0) defeated Hampton (9-4, 3-2) in Section 2-4A.

Burgettstown 45, Brentwood 26 – Paige Klodowski scored 20 points and Savanna Rush added 11 to lead Burgettstown (10-4, 3-1) to a Section 2-2A win over Brentwood (2-12, 1-3).

Central Valley 55, Ambridge 12 – Caroline Spirnak scored 18 points, including three 3-pointers, to lead Central Valley (2-8, 2-3) past Ambridge (2-11, 0-5) in Section 2-4A.

Chartiers-Houston 47, Carmichaels 13 – Ali Wingard and MacKenzie Walsh scored 10 points apiece to lead Chartiers-Houston (11-1, 4-0) to a Section 3-2A win. Ke’lani Chun scored seven points for Carmichaels (1-11, 0-3).

Connellsville 49, Mt. Lebanon 37 – Saige Mickens connected for 31 points to power Connellsville (5-9, 1-3) to a Section 2-6A victory. Cali Green scored 11 and Chloe Shea had 10 for Mt. Lebanon (4-7, 2-2).

Deer Lakes 56, Steel Valley 27 – Delaney DeRose scored 18 points to lead Deer Lakes (7-4, 4-2) past Steel Valley (1-13, 1-6) in Section 2-3A. Josie Farster added 12 points and Sydney Sharkins chipped in 10 for the Lancers.

Elizabeth Forward 69, Yough 26 – Kaelynn Settles scored 19 points, Mia Sostaric had 17 and Kaylin Staszak added 10 to lead Elizabeth Forward (9-4, 5-1) to a Section 3-4A win. Abby Cosalter scored nine points for Yough (6-7, 1-5).

Fort Cherry 69, Northgate 6 – Brooke Cornali scored 14 points, Gianna Bianchini had 12 and Allison Litman and Julie Klose added 10 points apiece to lead Fort Cherry (9-4, 4-0) to a Section 2-2A win over Northgate (4-7, 1-3).

Franklin Regional 44, Armstrong 18 – Chloe Pucka and Katherine Yaniga scored 10 points apiece to lead Franklin Regional (6-6, 3-2) to a Section 1-5A win. Sophia Shoemaker led Armstrong (6-8, 1-5) with eight points.

Geibel Catholic 55, Monessen 22 – Mallory Clemmer led with 23 points and Emma Larkin followed with 21 to push Geibel Catholic (13-0, 6-0) to a Section 2-A win. Na’Jaziah Carter scored 16 points for Monessen (2-8, 2-4).

Indiana 58, West Mifflin 22 – Addy Hutton scored 17 points and Julia Antonacci added 16 to lead Indiana (13-1, 5-0) to a Section 2-5A win. Kendall Lee scored 10 points for West Mifflin (5-8, 1-4).

Keystone Oaks 48, Waynesburg 40 – Hannah York and Natalee Tortorella scored 18 points apiece to push Keystone Oaks (7-4, 3-2) to a Section 3-3A win. Tess Pauley scored 16 points for Waynesburg (10-2, 3-2).

Latrobe 54, Greensburg Salem 39 – Maggie Maiers scored 15 points, Brianna Havrilla followed with 14 and Morgan Maiers contributed 10 for Latrobe (7-4, 4-2) in a Section 2-5A win. Mya Heasley hit four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points for Greensburg Salem (5-8, 0-5).

Laurel 49, Shenango 29 – Jael Henderson scored 18 points, Lexi Krol added 11 and Laurel (6-7, 1-3) came away with a Section 1-2A win. Addy Vanasco led Shenango (5-8, 1-3) with nine points.

Laurel Highlands 54, Ringgold 42 – Behind 15 points from Madison Brooks, 14 from Chloe Price and 11 from Taylor Schwertlfeger, Laurel Highlands (4-9, 2-4) defeated Ringgold (4-7, 2-4) in Section 3-4A.

Ligonier Valley 40, East Allegheny 27 – Ruby Smith scored nine points and Abby Springer had seven points and 13 rebounds to lead Ligonier Valley (4-9, 3-4) in Section 2-3A. Ivy Barnett led East Allegheny (1-10, 0-6) with eight points.

Mars 66, New Castle 34 – Alexis Cashdollar scored 24 points, Karmella Vigliotti had 16 and Cecilia Christy added 10 to lead Mars (5-7, 2-3) to a Section 3-5A win. Rhiauna Brothers scored 15 points and Ka’Mya Thompkins had 11 for New Castle (0-12, 0-5).

McGuffey 44, Washington 34 – Led by 11 points from Maura Janovich and 10 each from Lucy Weiss and Hailey Rogers, McGuffey (8-6, 4-1) picked up a Section 3-3A win. Faith Partozoti led Washington (5-6, 2-3) with 13 points.

Oakland Catholic 52, Derry 7 – Josie Fontana scored 13 points to lead Oakland Catholic (8-2, 5-0) past Derry (3-9, 1-4) in Section 1-4A.

OLSH 68, New Brighton 9 – Camryn Hummell scored 12 points to lead OLSH (10-3, 4-2) to a Section 1-3A win over New Brighton (0-11, 0-6).

Pine-Richland 51, Butler 26 – Cate Gentile led with 22 points and Mia LeDonne added 12 for Pine-Richland (8-5, 4-0) in a Section 1-6A win over Butler (8-5, 1-3).

Plum 41, Gateway 22 – Riley Stephans scored 16 points and Tamia West added 15 to lead Plum (9-3, 4-1) to a Section 1-5A win. Jahyne Bryant scored seven points for Gateway (2-9, 0-5).

Quaker Valley 36, Mohawk 20 – Maryland recruit Mimi Thiero scored 18 points to boost Quaker Valley (7-5, 5-1) past Mohawk (6-7, 3-3) in Section 1-3A.

Riverside 49, Sto-Rox 24 – Ashley Hare scored 21 points and Emma Stockman contributed 14 to help Riverside (9-4, 3-3) past Sto-Rox (5-6, 2-4) in Section 1-3A.

Riverview 49, Ellis School 21 – Isabel Chaparro hit four 3-pointers and finished with 22 points to send Riverview (6-3, 3-0) past Ellis School (2-7, 0-3) in Section 4-2A.

Serra Catholic 55, West Greene 38 – Bella Dumbroski led with 21 points, Lexi Pearce followed with 16, Niki Sfanos added 10 and Serra Catholic (7-3, 6-0) scored the last 11 points of a Section 2-A win. Kendra Tharp scored 18 points and Madelyn Roberts had 10 for West Greene (9-3, 4-2).

Sewickley Academy 51, St. Joseph 45 – Led by 18 points from Mikaela Mbandi, 11 from Charlotte Morton and 10 from Emma Eannarino, Sewickley Academy (6-6, 3-2) earned a Section 1-A win. Bella Bartolovic scored 23 points to lead St. Joseph (6-6, 3-3).

South Park 56, Southmoreland 21 – Nika Contakos led with 33 points and Bella Stromberg added 10 for South Park (8-5, 6-0) in a Section 3-4A win. Leah Moore scored seven points for Southmoreland (1-13, 0-6).

South Side 17, Carlynton 14 – Ariel Poelcher scored nine points to push South Side (5-7, 3-1) past Carlynton (3-8, 0-4) in a Section 2-2A win.

Trinity 47, Albert Gallatin 14 – Sutton Williamson scored 12 points to lead Trinity (9-3, 3-2) to a Section 4-5A win. Mikayla Shea scored nine points for Albert Gallatin (0-11, 0-6).

Union 71, Leechburg 19 – Miera Gunn and Ally Symons scored 13 points apiece to lead five players in double figures for Union (11-3, 5-1) in a Section 1-A win. Maddie Settle added 11 and Olivia Benedict and Amelia Thompson each chipped in 10 for the Scotties. Hayven Lookabaugh scored nine points to lead Leechburg (3-10, 0-6).

Upper St. Clair 49, Hempfield 39 – Kat Polstyanko scored 16 points and Ryan Pruunzik added 13 to lead Upper St. Clair (5-7, 2-2) to a Section 2-6A win. Reagan Fisher scored 12 and Gabby Coccia had 10 for Hempfield (9-4, 1-3).

Westinghouse 48, Carrick 43 – Desirata Mensah-Agyekum scored 21 points and Ryera Carrington added 15 to lead Westinghouse (7-3, 1-1) to a City League win. Jocelyn Fisher scored 28 for Carrick (8-1, 0-1).

Winchester Thurston 59, Jeannette 28 – DaShae Cochran scored 22 points and Jasmine Hollins added 18 to lead Winchester Thurston (8-1, 3-0) to a Section 4-2A win. Navarah Smith led Jeannette (8-4, 0-2) with 13 points.

Boys basketball

Beth-Center 78, Burgettstown 39 – Jason Zellie scored 23 points to power Beth-Center (7-5, 3-3) to a Section 3-2A win. Brayden Ozohonish added 14 and Parker Amos had 11 for the Bulldogs. Colton County led Burgettstown (2-11, 0-6) with 10 points.

Gateway 53, Penn-Trafford 48 – Mykel Bruce-McCrommon scored 20 points and Jax Vovaris added 16, including three 3-pointers, to lead Gateway (6-4, 5-1) in a matchup of first-place teams in Section 1-5A. Peyton Mastro led Penn-Trafford (5-6, 4-2) with 13 points.

Hockey

Blackhawk 5, Meadville 3 – Grant Shroads scored twice, Daniel Ostrom and Finn Conolon each had a goal and an assist and Aiden Elder also scored to lead Blackhawk (10-3) to a Class A win. Patrick Mahoney scored twice and Ryan Yunik added a goal for Meadville (5-8-2).

Connellsville 6, Deer Lakes 3 – Larry Barrofio had two goals and an assist and Matty Smith, TJ Snyder, Riley Denny and Sam Denny also scored for Connellsville (10-4) in Division 2. Mason Cervone had two goals and an assist and Max Redinger also scored for Deer Lakes (7-7).

Hampton 6, Freeport 2 – Preston Cochran had two goals and an assist and Joseph Stephenson also scored twice to send Hampton (6-7-1) to a Class A win. Dillon Fogle added a goal and an assist and Xander Tolley also scored in the win. Max Smith had a goal and an assist and Aiden Bauman also scored for Freeport (2-8-1).

Hempfield 6, Cathedral Prep 0 – Nini DiPietro collected two goals and two assists and Aiden Nader made 17 saves to lead Hempfield (13-2) to a Class 2A victory over Cathedral Prep (2-9-3). Guerin Gardner had a goal and two assists, Jonathan Holtzman a goal and an assist and Andrew Bryant and Nick Crupie also scored.

Indiana 5, Beaver 4 – Andrew Manzak scored the go-ahead goal with 3:08 to play and Michael Dubetsky and Tyler Yount each scored twice to lead Indiana (5-8-1) to a Class A win. Roman Guido had two goals and an assist and Brooke Goulder added a goal and an assist for Beaver (4-8).

Knoch 5, Elizabeth Forward 3 – Brayden Knauss had two goals and an assist, Brady Linamen collected a goal and three assists and Mitchell Myers and Cam Christie also scored for Knoch (10-3) in a Division 2 win. Blaze Hvozdik had a goal and an assist for Elizabeth Forward (3-8).

Latrobe 3, Baldwin 2 – Jaxson Kettering had two goals and an assist, including the go-ahead goal in the third period, and Josh Matthews added a goal and an assist for Latrobe (6-6-1) in Class 2A. Mack Dempsey scored twice for Baldwin (4-11-1). Reese Myers made 32 saves for Latrobe and Zachariah Hunt stopped 40 shots for Baldwin.

Morgantown 11, Central Valley 0 – Cooper Cox had four goals and three assists and Cameron Smith added three goals and two assists to help Morgantown (9-3-1) past Central Valley (2-9-1) in Division 2.

Neshannock 8, Carrick 4 – Marko Relic had a hat trick, Shane Johns added two goals and an assist and Butch Burgess finished with a goal and an assist to power Neshannock (11-2) in a Division 2 win. Chris Tomassi scored twice for Carrick (3-10).

North Hills 3, Wheeling Central Catholic 1 – Blake Kunkel, Stephen Slate and Brady Peterson scored for North Hills (8-4-3) in a Class A win. Rowen Parker scored and Seth Madel made 48 saves for Wheeling Central Catholic (1-11).

Norwin 7, Wheeling Park 6 (OT) – Brody Broban scored a hat trick, Parker Toth collected two goals and two assists and Zayn Zerevica added a goal and two assists to lead Norwin (4-9-1) to a shootout win in Class 2A. Daniel Tatich scored the tying goal in the final minute of regulation, Parker Jasso had a hat trick and Luke Simonetti finished with two goals and three assists for Wheeling Park (3-8-4).

Pine-Richland 5, North Allegheny 3 – Cullen Campbell had two goals and an assist and Carson Verszyla finished with a goal and two assists to lead Pine-Richland (7-4-2) to a Class 3A win. Jackson Naik and Luca Julio also scored in the win. Alex Costa had a goal and an assist and Ktyle Imm and Brady Hornyak also scored for North Allegheny (6-4-3).

Plum 5, West Allegheny 2 – AJ Leah had a goal and two assists and Josh Lewis, Trey Harchick, Max Keller and Tyler Bartos also scored to lead Plum (7-5) to a Class A win. John Wineland and Kam Davenport scored for West Allegheny (8-6). Brody Gribbin made 30 saves in the win.

Quaker Valley 9, Richland 0 – Matthias Lezama had three goals and an assist, Jace Vasbinder added two goals and an assist and Ben McHenry also scored twice as Quaker Valley (12-1-1) defeated Richland (2-11) in Class A.

Seneca Valley 6, Thomas Jefferson 1 – Brady Watson had a goal and two assists and Jacob Gilbert and John Sroka III each added a goal and an assist for Seneca Valley (13-0) in Class 3A. Carter Hoehn, Luke Meyers and Owen Martin also scored in the win. Michael Burns had a goal for Thomas Jefferson (6-6-1).

South Fayette 4, Mt. Lebanon 3 (OT) – Hudson Vennum netted the overtime winner, Nathaniel Keller had a goal and an assist and Jackson Stilley and Owen Sims also scored for South Fayette (7-7) in a Class 3A win. Cameron Mayer scored twice and Liam Powers once for Mt. Lebanon (2-7-3). Chase Lewis made 27 saves for South Fayette and Sam Shinn stopped 30 for Mt. Lebanon.
