High school roundup for June 3, 2025: Pine-Richland scorers hit milestones in girls lacrosse state playoff win

Kendyll Jerry scored two goals, including the 100th of her career, and Claire Mill scored three goals, including the 100th point of her career, to lead Pine-Richland to a 15-10 victory over State College (14-6) in the PIAA Class 3A girls lacrosse first round Tuesday.

Mallory Boivin led the Rams (19-3) with four goals and two assists, Madeline Mill added four goals and an assist and Cate Gentile collected two goals and five assists. Pine-Richland will face District 3 champion Manheim Township in the quarterfinals Saturday.

Two other WPIAL girls lacrosse teams won Tuesday to move into the quarterfinals.

In Class 3A, WPIAL champ Mt. Lebanon (16-3) battled to a 13-12 win over New Oxford (13-5). In Class 2A, WPIAL runner-up Chartiers Valley (16-4) cruised to an 18-5 victory over Conneaut (8-6).

Three teams saw their seasons come to an end.

In Class 2A, WPIAL champ Mars (19-2) lost in overtime, falling 11-10 to Twin Valley (17-5), and Quaker Valley (11-6) lost 18-7 to undefeated Wyomissing (20-0). In Class 3A, Manheim Township (14-2) won 11-8 to oust Upper St. Clair (18-3).

Boys lacrosse

Shady Side Academy 11, State College 9 – James Rost scored four goals and Landon Mauser also had a hat trick to lead Shady Side Academy (13-9) past State College (16-4) in the PIAA Class 3A boys lacrosse first round.

Rost scored back-to-back goals late in the third quarter to turn an 8-8 game into a 10-8 Bulldogs lead.

John Pogg scored twice and Seamus Riordan and Clark Henne added goals for the Bulldogs (13-9), who will meet District 3 champion Manheim Township in the quarterfinals Saturday.

All told, WPIAL boys lacrosse teams went 4-2 in the first round.

In Class 3A, WPIAL champ Mt. Lebanon (17-4) rolled to a 14-7 win over Penns Manor (15-7).

In Class 2A, WPIAL champ Mars (19-2) turned in a dominant 12-2 win over Lower Dauphin (16-6) and runner-up South Fayette (20-1) enjoyed a 23-2 rout of Meadville (7-4).

In Class 3A, North Allegheny (11-10) saw its season end with an 11-8 loss to Manheim Township (16-2) and in Class 2A, Hampton (16-5) bowed out after an 11-8 loss to Camp Hill Trinity (21-0).

Boys volleyball

Ambridge 3, Obama Academy 0 – WPIAL runner-up Ambridge (16-2) swept its way into the PIAA Class 2A quarterfinals with a 25-17, 25-12, 25-5 victory over City League champ Obama Academy (8-7).

Two other WPIAL teams, meanwhile, saw their seasons come to an end. In Class 2A, South Fayette (16-6) suffered a 3-0 loss to Meadville (15-1), and in Class 3A, Seneca Valley (14-5) was swept 3-0 by Central York.
