High school roundup for June 7, 2025: Shady Side Academy boys lacrosse rolls on

The last WPIAL lacrosse team standing in the PIAA playoffs is Class 3A district runner-up Shady Side Academy.
Seamus Riordan and James Rost had hat tricks as the Bulldogs (14-9) earned 1n 11-8 victory over District 3 champion Manheim Township (16-3) in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Shady Side Academy will face District 1 runner-up Radnor in the semifinals Tuesday.
Rost, Riordan, Clark Henne and Landon Mauser scored to give the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead in the first quarter, and while Manheim Township kept it close throughout, Shady Side never gave up the lead.
Henne and Mauser each finished with two goals and Emmerich Braham also scored for the Bulldogs.
WPIAL Class 3A champion Mt. Lebanon (17-5) lost 11-2 to Radnor (19-4), WPIAL Class 2A champ Mars (19-3) lost 15-10 to Allentown Central Catholic (18-3), and Class 2A runner-up South Fayette (20-2) fell 14-8 to Camp Hill Trinity (22-0).
Girls lacrosse
Manheim Township 18, Pine-Richland 3 – Liv Parmer scored six goals to lead District 3 champion Manheim Township (15-2) to a Class 3A quarterfinal win. Madeline Mill, Kate Gentile and Kendyll Jerry scored for Pine-Richland (19-4).
The other two WPIAL girls lacrosse teams in the PIAA quarterfinals also lost Saturday. District champ Mt. Lebanon (16-4) lost 14-5 to Bishop Shanahan (21-3) and Class 2A runner-up Chartiers Valley (16-5) lost 16-3 to undefeated District 3 champ Wyomissing (21-0).
Boys volleyball
Meadville 3, Ambridge 0 – District 10 champion Meadville (17-0) secured a 25-23, 25-15, 25-21 sweep of Ambridge (16-3) in the PIAA Class 2A quarterfinals. Karson Merlina had 17 kills and six digs, Nathan Sheffield added nine kills and five digs, Owen Buchanan made five blocks and Adrien Rotondo dished out 29 assists for the Bridgers.
Shaler 3, Brandywine Heights 0 – Five matches into the postseason, WPIAL Class 2A champion Shaler has yet to drop a game. The Titans (18-1) recorded another sweep in the PIAA quarterfinals with a 25-22, 26-24, 25-12 victory over Brandywine Heights (19-4). Shaler will meet District 10 champ Meadville in the semifinals Tuesday. Nate Myers had 12 kills, Richard O’Brien recorded five blocks, Aiden Smith dished out 28 assists, Justin Truong had 12 digs for the Titans and Adam Hoffman had five kills and three blocks.
