High school roundup for March 10, 2026: Obama Academy knocks off Cathedral Prep in 4A 2nd round

Naron Jackson scored on the rebound of a teammate’s missed free throw with 7.6 seconds left, leading City League champion Obama Academy to a 70-69 victory over District 10 champion Erie Cathedral Prep in a PIAA Class 4A boys basketball second-round game Tuesday night.
Eric James scored 25 points and Zion Connor added 23 for the Eagles (18-9), who will meet Deer Lakes in the quarterfinals Friday. Nando Mirarchi scored 30 points to lead Cathedral Prep (25-2).
Chartiers Valley 64, Cocalico 25 – Luca Federico scored 15 points as WPIAL champion Chartiers Valley (25-2) jumped out to a 22-5 lead after one quarter and cruised to a Class 5A second-round victory. Julius Best and Julian Semplice each scored 14 and Jake Lewis added 10 for the Colts, who will face Johnstown in the quarterfinals Friday. Tommy Hambright led Cocalico (20-8) with 11 points.
Elk County Catholic 68, Serra Catholic 48 – District 9 champion Elk County Catholic (26-2) defeated WPIAL runner-up Serra Catholic (15-11) and will meet Erie First Christian in the quarterfinals Friday.
Johnstown 37, Gateway 27 – Amier Robinson scored 17 points to lead District 6 champion Johnstown (19-5) to a Class 5A second-round win over Gateway (18-10). Johnstown will meet Chartiers Valley in Friday’s quarterfinals.
Neighborhood Academy 59, Johnsonburg 45 – Kedron Gilmore scored 27 points and Trey McMurray added 15 as WPIAL champion Neighborhood Academy (23-3) rolled to a Class A second-round victory. The Bulldogs will meet Conestoga Christian in the quarterfinals Friday. Parker Calla scored 27 points to lead Johnsonburg (20-8).
West York 56, Penn Hills 42 – Breckin Lasher had 18 points and 18 rebounds to lead District 3 champ West York (22-1) in the Class 5A second round. Conrad Beatty added 14 points and Jayden Kohler had 10 for West York, which will meet Moon in the quarterfinals Friday. Calix Clark and Amon Hawthorne each scored 11 points for Penn Hills (20-8).
Girls basketball
Bishop McCort 62, Chartiers-Houston 36 – Zoey Ferguson scored 19 points to lead District 6 champion Bishop McCort (19-8) to a Class 2A second-round victory. Karalyn Bailey added 15 points and Ava Zucco had 11 for the Crimson Crushers, who will face Wilmington in the quarterfinals Friday. Ali Wingard scored 16 points to lead Chartiers-Houston (22-5).
Canon-McMillan 49, Allderdice 37 – Madison Clair scored 18 points and Canon-McMillan (23-4) shot 26 of 33 from the free-throw line in a Class 6A second-round victory. The Big Macs will face Dallastown in the quarterfinals Friday. Bailey White led Allderdice (20-7) with 20 points.
Neshannock 60, Penns Manor 53 – Payton Newman scored 21 points and Jaidon Nogay added 19 points, including four 3-pointers, as WPIAL champion Neshannock (24-3) earned a Class 2A second-round win. The Lancers will meet Kennedy Catholic in the quarterfinals Friday. Clara Henry scored 17 and Josslyn Bennett had 11 for District 6 runner-up Penns Manor (22-6).
Shady Side Academy 39, Beaver Falls 33 – Karis Thomas scored 22 points and WPIAL champion Shady Side Academy (25-2) rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit in the Class 3A second round. The Bulldogs, who outscored the Tigers 22-8 in the second half, will face District 6 champ Central Cambria in the quarterfinals Friday. Donnica Norman scored 12 points and Taylor Pullen added 10 for Beaver Falls (24-3).
Wilmington 68, Winchester Thurston 48 – Alyssa Flick and Reese Bruckner scored 18 points apiece to lead District 10 champion Wilmington (23-4) to a Class 2A second-round win. Maya Jeckavitch added 16 and Avery Harlan had 10 for Wilmington, which will face Bishop McCort in the quarterfinals Friday. Jasmine Hollins scored 25 and DaShae Cochran had 10 for Winchester Thurston (22-5).
