High school roundup for March 11, 2025: Courtney Wallace hits 2,000 points in Neighborhood Academy PIAA win

Courtney Wallace had a triple-double with 25 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists and surpassed the 2,000-point mark for his career, leading Neighboarhood Academy to a 63-44 win over Elk County Catholic in the PIAA Class A boys basketball second round Tuesday night.
Shamar Simpson and Syncer Nicholson each added 10 points apiece for the Bulldogs (26-1), who will face LaAcademia Charter from District 3 in the quarterfinals Friday. Lance O’Neil scored 16 points to lead Elk County Catholic (25-2).
Aquinas Academy 85, Turkeyfoot Valley 56 – Sam Duer led with 36 points, Jake Guillen followed with 25 and Jonah Burchill added 12 to push Aquinas Academy (20-7) to a Class A second-round win. Lance Jones scored 14 points and Colt Rugg had 12 for Turkeyfoot Valley (23-4). The Crusaders will meet District 9 champ Otto-Eldred in Friday’s quarterfinals.
North Catholic 84, Beaver 53 – Jude Rottmann led with 25 points, Jason Fredericks followed with 24 and Joe Waskiewicz added 13 for North Catholic (21-6) in a Class 4A second-round win. Junior Marino scored 15 points and Jake Peluso had 14 for Beaver (20-7). The Trojans will meet District 10 champ Cathedral Prep in Friday’s quarterfinals.
Otto-Eldred 64, Serra Catholic 54 – Otto-Eldred (27-1) defeated Serra Catholic (22-5) in a Class 2A second-round matchup. Owen Dumbroski scored 21 points and Kris Sharp had 14 for the Eagles. Otto-Eldred will meet Aquinas Academy in the quarterfinals Friday.
West York 75, Peters Township 49 – Chase Cristofoletti led with 18 points, Luke Hoffman followed with 15 and Jaedyn Kohler and Breckin Lasher added 11 points apiece for West York (22-6) in a Class 5A second-round win. Nick McCullough scored 19 points and Dylan Donovan had 11 for Peters Township (19-9). The Bulldogs will meet Hershey in the quarterfinals Friday.
Girls basketball
Bishop McCort 66, Winchester Thurston 39 – Cami Beppler and Emma Preuss scored 17 points apiece and Zoey Ferguson added 12 to lead Bishop McCort (24-4) to a Class 2A second-round win. DaShae Cochran scored 12 points for Winchester Thurston (23-5). The Crushers will face Kennedy Catholic in Friday’s quarterfinals.
Kennedy Catholic 50, Neshannock 36 – Madison Pfleger scored 19 points and Layke Fields added 12 to lead Kennedy Catholic (20-5) to a Class 2A second-round win. Payton Newman scored 19 points and Sophia Bonner had 11 for Neshannock (24-4). Kennedy Catholic will meet Bishop McCort in Friday’s quarterfinals.
Penns Manor 52, Aliquippa 29 – District 6 runner-up Penns Manor (24-5) defeated WPIAL champion Aliquippa (22-5) in the Class 2A second round to set up a matchup with District 9 champ Redbank in the quarterfinals Friday.
Redbank 58, South Side 31– Mylee Harmon scored 20 points, Kira Bonanno added 11 and Addy Bond finished with 10 to lead District 9 champ Redbank (22-6) past South SIde (20-8) in a Class 2A second-round game.
Shady Side Academy 46, Northwestern 44 – Karis Thomas scored 21 points and Laila Banner added 10 to push Shady Side Academy (26-1) to a Class 3A second-round win. Makayla Presser-Pulmer scored 22 points for Northwestern (25-1). The Bulldogs will face Camp Hill Trinity in Friday’s quarterfinals.
