High school roundup for March 14, 2025: Neshannock’s Addy Frye opens season with 17K no-hitter

Addy Frye opened the season with a no-hitter, strking out 17 and walking one, as Neshannock blanked hard-hitting Chartiers Valley, 4-0, in a nonsection softball matchup Friday.

Jaidon Nogay went 3 for 4 and Miley Anderson hit two singles and drove in two runs for the Lancers (1-0). Taylor Walsh struck out six for the Colts (0-1).

Baldwin 8, Canon-McMillan 1 – Reese Temme and Ryley Shaw hit three home runs apiece to lead Baldwin (1-0) to a nonsection win. Lyla Mowery hit a triple for Canon-McMillan (0-1).

Beaver 11, Shenango 3 – Sami Springman went 3 for 4 with a double, Cali Coups hit a triple and Bridget Mayo hit two singles and a double to lead Beaver (1-0) past Shenango (0-1) in a nonsection win.

Belle Vernon 13, Waynesburg 12 – Katie Sokol delivered the game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh and Bella Williams hit a grand slam to lead Belle Vernon (1-0) to a nonsection win. Avery Davis hit two doubles and Ellie Makel hit two singles and drove in two runs for Waynesburg (0-1).

Carmichaels 6, Laurel Highlands 1 – Carys McConnell hit two singles and drove in two runs and winning pitcher Bailey Barnyak hit a triple and struck out 13 for Carmichaels (1-0) in a nonsection win. Emelia Cavaliere hit a triple for Laurel Highlands (0-1).

Chartiers-Houston 7, West Allegheny 5 – Winning pitcher Meadow Ferri hit a home run and Lauren Rush doubled for Chartiers-Houston (1-0) in a nonsection win. Ava Henke went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs and Savanna Benish doubled and tripled for West Allegheny (0-1).

Connellsville 18, Southmoreland 8 – Molly Greenwalt went 4 for 5 with a double and six RBIs, Cali Leichliter, Maggie Orndorff and Kalyn Cole hit a double apiece and Kendal King drove in three runs to lead Connellsville (1-0) to a nonsection win. Zoey Murphy hit a home run and Makayla Etling hit a triple for Southmoreland (0-1).

Franklin Regional 17, Sebastian River (Fla.) 3 – Toryn Fulton went 4 for 5 with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs, C.C. Copeland went 3 for 4 with a triple and four RBIs and Ava Rhoten and Bella Salas hit a double apiece for Franklin Regional (1-1) in a nonsection win over Sebastian River (Fla.) in Vero Beach, Fla. Franklin Regional also played Ontario (Ohio) and lost 10-2. Olivia Cowell singled in a pair of runs.

Freeport 7, Apollo-Ridge 4 – Jayden Rezak hit a grand slam, Addison Gourley tripled and Leah Clark and Taelyn Toy hit a double each to lead Freeport (1-0) to a nonsection win. Maddison Butler doubled for Apollo-Ridge (0-1).

Fox Chapel 5, Norwin 4 – Adina Rosen tripled in the winning run to walk it off for Fox Chapel (1-0) in a nonsection win. Jillian Haigh crushed a three-run home run while Lily Viti and Brianna Hnatow each hit a triple for the Foxes. Rachel Minteer doubled and Diem Wardziski went 2 for 4 for Norwin (0-1).

Jeannette 3, Penn Hills 1 – Abigail Shaw and winning pitcher Grace Stein hit a double apiece for Jeannette (1-0) in a nonsection win over Penn Hills (0-1).

Laurel 11, Ellwood City 0 – Maddie Evans went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs and Hailey Fell hit two doubles for Laurel (1-0) in a nonsection win over Ellwood City (0-1). Winning pitcher Riley Balcom struck out 10.

Mapletown 18, California 4 – Treslee Weston went 3 for 3, Makenna Lotspeich hit a double and triple and Marley Shiflett tripled to lead Mapletown (1-0) to a nonsection win over California (0-1).

Moon 8, Flagler Palm Coast (Fla.) Cami Chambers went 2 for 2 with a triple, home run and drove in two runs for Moon (1-0) in a nonsection win over Flagler Palm Coast (Fla.). Alina McMahon and Katie DeMarco each doubled for the Tigers.

New Castle 6, OLSH 3 – Keara Mangieri hit a home run, Aliyah Stalczynski tripled and Olivia Hood and Mya Dwyer hit a double apiece for New Castle (1-0) in a nonsection win. Mya Eshenbaugh went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for OLSH (0-1).

Northgate 9, Fort Cherry 4 – Gracie Auth hit a double and Johna Abramowicz struck out 13 and allowed four hits for Northgate (1-0) in a nonsection win. Charlotte Brozenick went 2 for 3 for Fort Cherry (0-1).

Peters Township 13, Ringgold 0 – Mackenzie Morgan hit two singles, a triple and drove in four runs and Avery Carson went 3 for 3 with two doubles for Peters Township (1-0) in a nonsection win over Ringgold (0-1). Addie Brunette had four RBIs for the Indians.

South Side 18, Burgettstown 5 – Miladija Pavlovich went 3 for 4 with a triple, home run and four RBIs, Madison Morrow homered and Maya Ringhoff went 4 for 5 with a double and three RBIs to lead South Side (1-0) to a nonsection win. Raya Sentipal went 3 for 3 with a double and triple for Burgettstown (0-1).

Spruce Creek 5, Hampton 0 – Alexis Minaberry hit a home run for Spruce Creek in a win over Hampton (0-1) at the KSA Disney Classic.

Union County 16, Deer Lakes 8 – Emma Mayes went 4 for 4 with a triple and two RBis to lead Union County at the Ripken Experience in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Siena Plummer went 3 for 4, Sophia Laurenza singled and tripled and Riley Jones had two hits and two RBIs. In the first game of the day, Ava Malone went 3 for 3 with a triple, homer and four RBIs to lead Grace Christian to a 20-0 win. Plummer tripled for Deer Lakes (0-2).

Upper St. Clair 10, Indiana 6 – Brooklyn Kemp singled, tripled and drove in three runs and Lainie Guarino doubled for Upper St. Clair (1-0) in a nonsection win. Maggie Cunningham singled, doubled and homered, driving in five runs for Indiana (0-1).

Yough 4, Lake Gibson (Fla.) 3 – Anna Lindeer, Brooke Kowalski and Kylie Odelli hit a double apiece for Yough (1-0) in a win over Lake Gibson (Fla.) at the KSA Disney Classic.

Baseball

Allderdice 8, Deer Lakes 0 – Lukas Stead hit a home run and knocked in a pair of runs, while Carson O’Leary and Donovon Snelsire each drove in two runs as Allderdice (1-0) blanked Deer Lakes (0-1) in nonsection play. Brendan Stecik doubled and Zack Shook got the win for the Dragons. Ben Shurina had two hits including a double for the Lancers.

Avella 2, Washington 1 – Winning pitcher Bryce Wright struck out eight and allowed one run on three hits as Avella (1-0) defeated Washington (0-1) in nonsection play. Wright went 3 for 3 at the plate with a double and Charles Rush tripled for the Eagles. Tyler Bainer homered for the Prexies. Logan Fedak fanned four in two innings to pick up the save for the Avella.

Chartiers Valley 8, Seton LaSalle 6 – Down two runs heading into the bottom of the sixth, Chartiers Valley (1-0) rallied for four runs to come away with a nonsection win. Winning pitcher Brady Schaming crushed a three-run homer and Colton Koza doubled and knocked in three runs for the Colts. Connor Rothhaar tripled and drove in three runs for Seton LaSalle (0-1). Jared Pryor doubled and Nathan Colberg got the save for Chartiers Valley.

Eden Christian 12, South Side 5 – Noah Emswiler doubled and knocked in two runs, Levi DeFazio singled twice and had two RBIs while winning pitcher Brady Hull went 2 for 3 with a double as Eden Christian (1-0) beat South Side (0-1) in nonsection play. Cole McCoy doubled for the Rams.

Indiana 6, Hempfield 1 – Mark Collinger and Will Olsen each singled and drove in two runs while starting pitcher Charlie Manzi picked up the win as Indiana (1-0) defeated Hempfield (0-1) in nonsection play. Drew Jones singled and drove in a run and Colin Polechko doubled for the Spartans.

Mt. Lebanon 3, Shaler 2 – Maddox Yost drove in a pair of runs while Graham Keen and Dane Barber each doubled as Mt. Lebanon (1-0) scored two insurance runs in the fifth to hold on and beat Shaler (0-1) in nonsection play. Joey Rispoli went 2 for 3 for the Titans. Samuel Bochkoris got the win and Cooper Wolling picked up a save for the Blue Devils.

Penn-Trafford 9, Norwin 3 – Logan Matrisch singled, homered and drove in five runs to power Penn-Trafford (1-0) to a nonsection win. Nico Casioto doubled and drove in a pair of runs and Colton Tyburski also hit a double for the Warriors. Brayden Wardzinski smashed a two-run home run for Norwin (0-1).

Peters Township 6, Ringgold 2 – Brody Takacs hit a two-run homer and winning pitcher Jack Stewart struck out three and allowed two hits in four shutout innings as Peters Township (1-0) defeated Ringgold (0-1) in nonsection play. Zach Miner doubled and drove in two runs and Jackson Stocker and Colin Stofik each doubled for the Indians. Gavin Angotti and Alex Kolano each singled and drove in a run for the Rams.

Plum 2, Regis (NY) 1 – Ryan Lafferty had the game-tying single in the seventh, Timmy Ruggiero delivered a walk-off RBI single in the eighth and Max Vollmer picked up the win for Plum (2-0). Plum also defeated Northside Christian, 8-6. Connor Wilson had two hits and four RBIs, Enzo Mele added two hits and drove in two runs and Ruggiero singled and doubled.

Shenango 2, Hopewell 1 – Tyler Houk went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs while Joey Campoli picked up the win for Shenango (1-0) in a nonsection victory over Hopewell (0-1). Brody McCullough doubled and starting pitcher David Medich struck out nine for the Vikings.

South Fayette 6, Tri City Christian (Calif.) 1 – Ryan Speer had two hits and three RBIs while Cody Bungert and Chaz Kosko each doubled and drove in a run as South Fayette (1-0) scored five runs in the sixth to pull away with the nonsection win over Tri City Christian. Speer struck out two in two innings for the win.

Valley 8, Ligonier Valley 1 – Brady Moore hit a solo home run, Conrad Hoover knocked in two runs and Julian Danko slapped two hits and drove in a run as Valley (1-0) beat Ligonier Valley (0-1) in nonsection play. Winning pitcher Dom Dunkel went 2 for 3 for the Vikings. Tyler Smith doubled for the Rams.

West Mifflin 6, Mt. Pleasant 2 – Derek Tudek, Braeden Andzelik and Jayvon Thompson each singled and drove in a run and winning pitcher Jake Martina allowed four hits and struck out six for West Mifflin (1-0) in Vero Beach, Fla. Sonny Marne and Jacob Kitz each singled and scored for Mt. Pleasant (0-1).

Boys lacrosse

Moon 11, Franklin Regional 10 – Cole Seymour scored three goals to lead Moon (1-0) to a nonsection win. Cole Stackiewicz scored four goals for Franklin Regional (0-1).

Girls lacrosse

Chartiers Valley 18, Seton LaSalle 4 – Juliana Betts scored five goals, Ava Warzinski had five assists and Mallorie LaGamba recorded four goals and an assist to hit the 200-point mark for her career as Chartiers Valley (1-0) won its opener. Megan Witte had three goals and Kylie Miller added two for the Colts.

North Hills 15, Baldwin 1 – Maddie Korbel scored six goals and had two assists, Georgia Krogmann recorded a hat trick and Emily Mejia scored two goals and had two assists as North Hills (1-0) cruised to a nonsection win. Mallory Lutz added a pair of goals while Addison Moriconi and Lexi Soltis scored a goal apiece for the Indians.

Pine-Richland 17, Upper St. Clair 6 – Madeline Mill scored five goals, Mallory Boivin and Claire Mill had four goals apiece and Cate Gentile added three goals and two assists for Pine-Richland (1-0) in a nonsection win.

Plum 12, North Allegheny 8 – Carly Venanzi scored four goals, Ella Pedley and Olivia Iachini each added three goals and Malayna Smith made 10 saves to lead Plum (1-0) to a nonsection victory.
