High school roundup for March 16, 2024: McKeesport rolls into PIAA semifinals

Rachael Manfredo scored 22 points to lead McKeesport to a 57-35 victory over Armstrong in the PIAA Class 5A girls basketball quarterfinals Saturday.
Brooke Evans added 10 points for McKeesport (24-4) while Emma Paul paced Armstrong (23-6) with 15 points. McKeesport will play Cathedral Prep in Tuesday’s semifinals.
Cathedral Prep 39, Oakland Catholic 29 – Jayden McBride scored 14 points and Addie Biel added 10 as District 10 champion Cathedral Prep (22-3) won in the Class 5A quarterfinals. Mia LeDonne scored 11 points to lead Oakland Catholic (26-3). Cathedral Prep will meet McKeesport in the semifinals Tuesday.
Blackhawk 43, Fairview 19 – At Slippery Rock, Aubree Hupp had 23 points as Blackhawk (25-3) downed Fairview (22-6) in the Class 4A quarterfinals. Blackhawk led at halftime, 26-11. The Cougars will play Wyomissing in the semifinals on Tuesday.
Bishop Guilfoyle 60, Union 43 – Maurie Querry hit four 3-pointers and scored 18 points as Bishop Guilfoyle (27-3) beat Union (21-6) in the Class A quarterfinals at Norwin. Morgan Ruggery added 14 points for Bishop Giulfoyle and teammate Gia Adams contributed 10 points. Kelly Cleaver had a game-high 24 points and 11 rebounds for Union. Bishop Guilfoyle plays Williamsburg in Tuesday’s semifinals.
Wyomissing 61, North Catholic 46 – Amaya Stewart had 24 points as Wyomissing (28-0) beat North Catholic (19-8) in the Class 4A quarterfinals at Bald Eagle Area. Annie McCaffrey added 13 points and Audrey Hurleman chipped in 10 points for Wyomissing. Alayna Rocco led North Catholic with 20 points and five 3-pointers, while Brady Wehner and Lauren Mihm added 11 and 10 points.
Boys basketball
Aliquippa 68, Redbank Valley 44 – Joshua Pratt scored 25 points to lead Aliquippa (24-5) over Redbank Valley (24-4) in the Class 2A quarterfinals at Slippery Rock. Tiqwai Hayes and Cameron Luindsey added 11 points each for Aliquippa. Kieran Fricko had 15 points to lead Redbank Valley. Aliquippa will face Fort Cherry in the semifinals Tuesday.
Girard 70, Mohawk 50 – Geremia Dell’Omo scored 21 points to lead four players in double figures as District 10 champ Girard (26-2) won in the Class 3A quarterfinals. Nate Edwards added 17, Ryan Carr 13 and Kenny Godoy 11. Drew Wrona led Mohawk (15-12) with 15 points. Girard will meet Franklin in a rematch of the District 10 finals in the semifinals Tuesday.
Baseball
Greensburg Central Catholic 4, Southmoreland 3 – Jackson McMullen hit a two-out, walk-off single to lead Greensburg Central Catholic (1-0) to a nonsection win. Tyler Samide pitched a scoreless seventh to pick up the win. Grant Miller and Stephen Kochis each had two hits. David Billheimer singled and doubled for Southmoreland (0-1).
Greensburg Salem 3, Ligonier Valley 2 – Winning pitcher Tyler Martin struck out eight in four innings and had a pair of hits to lead Greensburg Salem (1-0) to a nonsection victory. Braedon Leatherman also had two hits for the Golden Lions. Parker Hollick drove in a run for Ligonier Valley (0-1).
Latrobe 1, Connellsville 0 – Latrobe’s second hit of the game was a walk-off RBI single by Brody Rumon in a nonsection victory over Connellsville. Jacob Cramer reached on an error and scored the winning run. Riley Smith pitched 6⅔ scoreless innings for the Wildcats (1-0), allowing four hits and striking out four. Luke Nipar-Smith got the final out of the seventh to earn the win. Jake Lee had two hits for the Falcons (0-1).
May River (SC) 10, Yough 3 – Jimmy Schroeder doubled and drove in a pair to lead May River (SC). Zander Aird had two hits and an RBI for Yough (0-2).
Mercyhurst Prep 4, OLSH 3 – Hunter Krahe went 2 for 3 and drove in two runs as Mercyhurst Prep (2-0) beat OLSH (1-1) in a nonsection game. Noah Trojanowski picked up the win, giving up three hits and three runs over four innings while striking out three.
Mercyhurst Prep 14, Serra Catholic 1 – Alex Manendo and Zack Kruszewski each had three hits and two RBIs to lead Mercyhurst Prep (2-0). Max Black drove in a run for Serra Catholic (1-1).
OLSH 15, St. Joseph 2 – Gino Williams doubled and tripled and Brady Brazell and Vann Kavals also had two hits each to lead OLSH (1-1) to a nonsection win. Charlie Ross and Gabe Maltese had two hits apiece for St. Joseph (0-2).
Peters Township 14, Quaker Valley 4 – Jackson Stocker hit a grand slam and a three-run homer to power Peters Township (1-0) to a nonsection win. Michael Alspaugh also homered and Nolan DiLucia singled and doubled for Peters. Ryan Finamore doubled twice for Quaker Valley (0-1).
Serra Catholic 13, St. Joseph 0 – Collin Holmes and Mark Johnson combined on a five-inning perfect game for Serra Catholic (1-1) in a nonsection win over St. Joseph (0-2). Holmes struck out seven in three innings. Jake Holmes had two doubles and three RBIs for the Eagles.
Softball
Baldwin 5, West Mifflin 2 – Kaylee Smolko singled and hit a three-run homer and Ryley Shaw doubled to lead Baldwin (1-0) to a nonsection win. Samantha Tomko and Adilee Salopek each had two hits for West Mifflin (0-2).
Charleroi 13, Campbell County (Tenn.) 1 – Ariahna Blouse and Lyla Brunner homered as Charleroi (1-0) beat Campbell County (Tenn.). Sofia Celaschi struck out 11 for Charleroi.
Mt. Pleasant 3, Waynesburg 1 – Gianna Stanek struck out seven in complete-game three-hitter as Mt. Pleasant (1-0) beat Waynesburg (0-2) in nonsection play. Stanek also went 1 for 3 at the plate and drove in a run.
Peters Township 12, Ringgold 0 – In a nonsection game, Lili Giulianelli struck out 10 on the way to tossing a one-hit shutout as Peters Township (2-0) defeated Ringgold (0-1) in five innings. Skylar Lemansky had two hits and Avery Carson hit a three-run home run for Peters Township.
Seneca Valley 6, Quakertown 0 – Lexie Hames threw a one-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts to lead Seneca Valley (2-0). Bella Gross singled and tripled and Kara Pasquale tripled and drove in a pair for the Raiders.
Seneca Valley 3, Bethlehem Catholic 0 – Abby Kalkowski and Rachel Dunmire combined on a no-hitter for Seneca Valley (2-0). Kalkowski struck out seven in three innings and doubled. Anna Kalkowski also doubled while Kara Pasquale and Lexie Hames tripled for the Raiders.
