High school roundup for March 19, 2025: Pine-Richland slams former section rival North Allegheny

Breck Hemphill went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead Pine-Richland baseball to an 11-5 victory over North Allegheny in a nonsection matchup of former section rivals Wednesday.

Benjamin Husted went 2 for 2 with a double and Anthony Mengine had a double and three RBIs for the Rams (2-0). August Maslo went 2 for 3 for the Tigers (0-1).

Avella 5, Western Beaver 1 – Bryce Wright and Hayden Gatewood combined to throw a no-hitter for Avella (3-0) in a nonsection win over Western Beaver (0-1). Wright struck out seven in 5⅔ innings and Gatewood struck out four in 1⅓ innings.

Beaver 12, Armstrong 5 – Logan Hill went 2 for 4 with five RBIs, Ronald Sebek drove in three runs and David Corob doubled to lead Beaver (2-0) to a nonsection win. Brayden Wright and Carson DeLano each went 3 for 4 with a double for Armstrong (1-1).

Blackhawk 8, Chartiers Valley 4 – Grant Landsberry had a double and four RBIs and Loghan Elich tripled for Blackhawk (1-0) in a nonsection win over Chartiers Valley (1-2).

Brashear 18, Sto-Rox 6 – Ryan White had two doubles, two RBIs and 12 strikeouts as Sto Rox (2-0) scored 11 runs in the sixth inning in its nonsection win. Max Reed (2 for 4) and Michael Caskey (3 for 4) both contributed three RBIs for the Bulls.

Central Valley 13, Quaker Valley 7 – Daniel McIntosh went 2 for 2 with two home runs and six RBIs and Nathan Angelo doubled to lead Central Valley (1-1) in a nonsection win. Todd Kagle went 3 for 4 with a double, home run and four RBIs for Quaker Valley (0-1).

Charleroi 15, Monessen 0 – Lazer Glasser went 2 for 2 with two doubles and four RBIs, Braeden Todaro doubled and Kaden Woods drove in three runs to lead Charleroi (1-0) to a nonsection win over Monessen (0-2).

Freeport 10, Apollo-Ridge 0 – Gage Blystone threw six shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out eight, and helped his own cause with a double and two RBIs to lead Freeport (1-1) to a nonsection win. CJ Walker doubled, tripled and drove in three for the Yellowjackets. Brayden Myers doubled for Apollo-Ridge (0-1).

Greensburg Central Catholic 17, East Allegheny 4 – Brody Bothel had two singles, a double and four RBIs to lead a 15-hit attack for Greensburg Central Catholic (1-1) in a nonsection win over East Allegheny (0-2). Bobby Smithnosky doubled twice and Ian Shipley, Anthony Grippo and Tyler Samide added two hits apiece. Samide was the winning pitcher, striking out 11 in five innings.

Knoch 11, Deer Lakes 3 – Dylan Roth singled, homered and drove in three runs as Knoch (1-1) scored eight runs in the top of the seventh in a nonsection win. Hunter Lang singled, doubled and drove in two runs, Ryan McCurdy had a double and two RBIs and Noah Glassic pitched 2⅔ scoreless innings for the Knights. Brady Plummer and Noah Shurina each doubled and knocked in a run for Deer Lakes (0-2).

Latrobe 8, Connellsville 4 – Eli Boring went 3 for 3 with two doubles, Cooper Basciano tripled and Brody Rumon drove in two runs to lead Latrobe (1-1) to a nonsection win. Gradin Hodge hit a home run and Grayden Gillott doubled for Connellsville (1-1).

Laurel Highlands 4, Greensburg Salem 0 – Nick Fleszar allowed three hits and struck out five in five innings and Jackson Johns threw two hitless innings of relief to lead Laurel Highlands (1-0) to a nonsection win over Greensburg Salem (1-1). Connor D’Amico singled and drove in a run and Braylon Schoch doubled for the Mustangs.

North Catholic 8, Bishop Canevin 1 – Matthew Madonna hit two doubles, Joe Safar homered and Jake McKee hit a double to lead North Catholic (1-0) to a nonsection win. Jackson Maddix singled for Bishop Canevin (0-2).

Penn-Trafford 4, Riverdale Ridge 3 (Colo.) – Logan Mastrisch hit a walk-off RBI single for Penn-Trafford (2-1) in a win over Riverdale Ridge (Colo.) in Vero Beach, Fla. Zach Feldman went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for the Warriors.

Plum 4, Seneca Valley 3 – Timmy Ruggiero doubled twice and drove in a run and Braden Kemmerer threw three scoreless innings to lead Plum (4-0) to a nonsection win. Connor Wilson and Jake Domkowski each had two hits for the Mustangs. Mason Fisher went 3 for 3 for Seneca Valley (1-1).

Riverview 16, Clairton 0 – Owen Metz threw five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out eight, to lead Riverview (1-0) past Clairton (0-2) in a nonsection game. Rece Stempfer doubled twice and drove in two, Lukas Duncan had three RBIs and Miles Duncan collected two hits and two RBIs for the Raiders. Jontere Sanders doubled for the Bears.

Serra Catholic 10, Leechburg 0 – Winning pitcher Owen Dumbrosky doubled and drove in a run and Matt McNeal had a single, double and an RBI to lead Serra Catholic (3-0) to a nonsection win over Leechburg (0-1).

Springdale 11, St. Joseph 1 – Wyatt Warywoda gave up one hit and one unearned run while striking out 14 in six innings to lead Springdale (1-0) to a nonsection win. Warywoda doubled and drove in two runs, Andrew Redman went 2 for 2 with an RBI and Luke Bramson doubled and knocked in a run for the Dynamos. Elliott Szalla drove in a run for St. Joseph (0-1).

Upper St. Clair 7, Mt. Lebanon 0 – Nolan Wilson threw six shutout innings, giving up two hits and striking out nine, to lead Upper St. Clair (1-1) to a nonsection win over Mt. Lebanon (1-1). Eli Rankin went 4 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Carter Stein had two hits and Eli Mandler doubled for the Panthers.

Softball

Apollo-Ridge 14, Valley 5 – Winning pitcher Jocelyn Snyder struck out 10 in five innings and went 2 for 3 with five RBIs to lead Apollo-Ridge (2-1) to a nonsection win. Madison Butler had two hits and two RBIs for Apollo-Ridge. Aalyiah Dawson had a hit and two RBIs for Valley (0-1).

Armstrong 7, Indiana 4 – Sydney Krukar doubled and had two RBIs while Clara Toy went 2 for 4 with two RBIs in a nonsection win for Armstrong (1-1). Anna Carnovale doubled and drove in a run for Indiana (1-2).

Baldwin 6, Norwin 2 – Avery Herrington went 2 for 2 with a home run and Kaylee Smolko and Mackenzie Bowen hit a double apiece to lead Baldwin (3-1) to a nonsection win. Graci Castelli and Rachel Minteer each hit a double for Norwin (0-2).

Bentworth 12, Merion Mercy 1 – Winning pitcher Sydney Gonglik struck out 11, walked one and allowed three hits in five innings for Bentworth (1-0) in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Kylie Glaze went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs and Sofia Gaussa went 3 for 4 with a double for the Bearcats.

Brownsville 9, Ringgold 1 – Winning pitcher Ava Clark struck out 13 to lead Brownsville (2-0) to a nonsection win. Cheyenne Lamont homered for Ringgold (0-3).

Chartiers-Houston 15, Bishop Canevin 0 – Meadow Ferri and Taryne Drilak combined to throw a four-inning no-hitter for Chartiers-Houston (2-0) in a nonsection win. Drilak struck out six in three innings. Ferri struck out the side in the first. Alexis Summers had the lone hit for Bishop Canevin (0-1). Ella Richey went 2 for 2 with a double and triple, Lauren Rush drove in three runs and Aubree Randolph homered for the Buccaneers.

Chartiers Valley 10, Beaver 4 – Winning pitcher Taylor Walsh struck out eight and went 2 for 4 with an RBI to help Chartiers Valley (2-2) to a nonsection win. Annabelle Helt (2 for 4 with two RBIs), Lilly Duffill (double and one RBI) and Kaitlyn Truong (double and one RBI) led the Colts offense. Olivia Peabody was 3 for 4 for Beaver (2-1).

Connellsville 16, Belle Vernon 3 – Kayln Cole hit a triple and home run and drove in five runs and Molly Greenwalt hit two doubles and had four RBIs to lead Connellsville (2-0) to a nonsection win. Lauren VanDivner hit a double for Belle Vernon (1-2).

Elizabeth Forward 12, Austin Prep (Mass.) 2 – Winning pitcher Julia Johnson struck out nine and allowed three hits in six innings for Elizabeth Forward (1-0) in a nonsection win over Austin Prep (Mass.). Addy Nigut went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and Julia Resnick doubled, homered and drove in three runs for the Warriors.

Fox Chapel 18, Kiski Area 2 – Jillian Haigh went 3 for 3 with two triples, a home run and five RBIs and Maria Stiger went 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs to lead Fox Chapel (3-0) to a nonsection win. Samantha Matson hit an RBI double for Kiski Area (0-2).

Mohawk 12, Riverside 3 – Ally Granato hit two doubles and drove in two runs, Lydia Cole doubled and Reagan Magno singled and tripled to lead Mohawk (1-0) to a nonsection win. Macyn Greer hit two singles for Riverside (0-2).

Mt. Pleasant 10, Charleroi 4 – Carly Surma went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and Dani Trainer also went 3 for 3 with an RBI for Mt. Pleasant (1-0) in a nonsection win. Gracie Etling and Gianna Stanek both doubled and had two RBIs. Ariahna Blouse (3-for-4) and Avery Pendo (1-for-3) doubled and had an RBI to lead Charleroi (0-1).

New Castle 19, Butler 15 – Olivia Hood (4 for 5 with five RBIs) hit one of four home runs for New Castle (2-0) in its nonsection win. Keara Mangieri (double and four RBIs), Aliyah Stalczynski (3 for 4 with two RBIs) and Mikayla DiGennaro (two RBIs) accounted for the other three homers. Zoe Shields had four hits, including three doubles. Marissa Sklencar went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs for Butler (0-2-1)

North Catholic 6, OLSH 1 – Winning pitcher Kennedy Brown allowed two hits and struck out 17 to lead North Catholic (2-0) to a nonsection win. Natalia Rushak went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs and Samanatha Foley tripled for the Trojans. Ava Ciummo singled for OLSH (0-2).

Northgate 15, Carlynton 4 – Bayleigh Hooper went 4 for 4 with two doubles, Johna Abramowicz hit two doubles and drove in four runs and Kayleigh Hooper hit a triple to lead Northgate (2-1) to a nonsection win. Maura Weiland doubled for Carlynton (0-1)

Plum 8, Knoch 7 – Liana Yusko had two home runs and drove in five for Plum (4-0) in a nonsection win. Mackenzie Marotta went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs. Emersyn Jones homered and drove in two and Lizzie Danik doubled for Knoch (0-1).

Peters Township 10, Seton LaSalle 3 – Mackenzie Morgan had three hits and drove in two runs to lead Peters Township (2-2) to the nonsection win. Avery Carson homered and had two RBIs while Emery Grimes had two hits and four RBIs. Layla Chapman had three hits for the Seton LaSalle (0-1)

Pine-Richland 7, Mars 3 – Catie Scholl and Sydney Bezila each hit a triple, Ellie Myers doubled and Abigail Skripac drove in two runs to lead Pine-Richland (1-0) to a nonsection win. Laura Craska hit two doubles for Mars (0-2).

Shaler 2, North Allegheny 0 – Winning pitcher Bria Bosiijevac allowed three hits, struck out eight and walked one for Shaler (1-1) in a nonsection win over North Allegheny (1-2). Abby Aleski tripled and Alyssa Schaffold doubled for the Titans.

South Allegheny 14, Oakland Catholic 12 – Cameran Colecchi and Taylor Bowman had two doubles and three RBIs apiece to lead South Allegheny (2-0) to a nonsection win. Nina Hillard went 5 for 5 with a double, home run and four RBIs and Karly Polanowski went 4 for 5 with a double for Oakland Catholic (0-1).

Uniontown 9, Ligonier Valley 6 – Graci Rodeheaver went 3 for 4 and Addison Handlin and Alivia Noah hit a double apiece to lead Uniontown (1-0) to a nonsection win. Sydnee Foust and Elyse Witcoski doubled for Ligonier Valley (0-2).

Waynesburg 17, Beth-Center 3 – Kylee Schaum went 3 for 3 with a double, triple and three RBIs, Aidan Snider went 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs and Gina Tedrow homered to lead Waynesburg (1-1) to a nonsection win. Jenna Pohill hit a home run and Kendall Welsh tripled for Beth-Center (0-2).

West Greene 16, Fort Cherry 0 – Winning pitcher Payton Gilbert threw a four-inning one-hitter, striking out eight and walking one for West Greene (1-0) in a nonsection win over Fort Cherry (0-3). Kendra Tharp went 2 for 3 with a double, home run and five RBIs, Marissa Tharp homered and Madelyn Roberts drove in three runs for the Pioneers.

West Mifflin 9, Keystone Oaks 0 – Winning pitcher Rylie Dobnak struck out 11 and allowed only three hits for West Mifflin (1-1) in a nonsection win over Keystone Oaks (0-2). Mia Bey went 3 for 4 with two doubles and five RBIs and Aubrey Jaskulski hit two doubles for the Titans.

Boys volleyball

Canon-McMillan 3, South Fayette 0 – Landon Patterson had 11 kills, Henry Klinar added 10 kills and Justin Peters had 22 assists, seven kills and five digs for Canon-McMillan (2-0) in a nonsection win over South Fayette (2-1).
