High school roundup for March 26, 2025: Hempfield’s Riley Miller no-hits Mt. Lebanon

Riley Miller threw a five-inning no-hitter and struck out seven to lead Hempfield to a 14-0 victory over Mt. Lebanon (2-2, 0-1) in Section 1-6A softball Wednesday.
Ella Berkebile went 3 for 4 with a double, home run and two RBIs, Allie Cervola homered and Lauren Howard doubled for the Spartans (5-0, 2-0).
Burgettstown 19, Cornell 3 – Madison Keating and Taylor Grace drove in three runs apiece and Madelina Guiddy hit two singles and drove in two runs to lead Burgettstown (2-3) to a nonsection win over Cornell (2-1).
Bentworth 15, Avella 4 – Sofia Gaussa went 4 for 4 with two home runs and five RBIs in a nonsection win for Bentworth (3-2). Willow Eckels (2 for 2) and Sydney Gonglik (3 for 3) each drove in two runs for the Bearcats. Madison Rush homered and had two RBIs for Avella (0-5).
California 8, Beth-Center 3 – Kayla Saeli went 2 for 3 with two doubles and three RBIs, Avery Filby doubled and Aubrey Dearinger drove in three runs to lead California (2-1) to a nonsection win. Allison Lynch went 3 for 4 with a triple for Beth-Center (0-4).
Central Valley 5, South Side 4 – Natalie Iannessa hit a double and Aubrey Grater hit two singles for Central Valley (2-0) in a nonsection win. Maya Ringhoff went 2 for 3 with a double for South Side (3-3). Winning pitcher Emma Weaver struck out 12 for the Warriors.
Charleroi 14, Ringgold 8 – Lyla Brunner went 4 for 4 with two doubles and Ariahna Blouse went 4 for 4 with a double for Charleroi (2-2) in a nonsection win. Annie Pelissero, Addy Allen and Addison Jenkins doubled for Ringgold (0-6).
Connellsville 15, Laurel Highlands 6 – Cali Leichliter went 4 for 5 with a double, triple and four RBIs and Kalyn Cole went 3 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs to lead Connellsville (4-0) to a nonsection win. Harlie Dirda hit a double for Laurel Highlands (1-3).
Jeannette 5, Brentwood 3 – Winning pitcher Grace Stein struck out 13 and allowed two hits for Jeannette (2-2) in a nonsection win. Emma Thompson went 2 for 4 for Brentwood (0-2). Gianna Casino went 2 for 2 with a triple and Josie Shaw and Abigail Shaw hit a double apiece for the Jayhawks.
Knoch 11, Mars 0 – Emersyn Jones homered twice and drove in seven runs and winning pitcher Kaila Purcell threw four one-hit innings to lead Knoch (2-1) to a nonsection win. McKenna Brailey singled, doubled and drove in a run for the Knights. Taylor Simoni had both hits for Mars (1-4).
Northgate 11, New Brighton 7 – Winning pitcher Johna Abramowicz struck out 14 and went 3 for 3 with a double, triple and three RBIs for Northgate (5-1) in a nonsection win. Liza Lambert hit a triple for New Brighton (0-2). Bayleigh Hooper also went 3 for 5 with two RBI for the Flames.
Penn Hills 12, McKeesport 1 – London Seymore belted a grand slam and drove in six runs to lead Penn Hills (2-3) past McKeesport (1-1) in a nonsection win. Winning pitcher Isabella DeCarlo struck out eight and allowed only two hits.
Rochester 26, Freedom 15 – Emily Weese went 6 for 6 with four doubles and six RBIs for Rochester (1-2) in a nonsection win. Harmony Martin went 2 for 2 with a double and two RBIs for Freedom (0-2). Madi Henry drove in four runs and Gianna Sisco drove in three runs for the Rams.
Seton LaSalle 7, West Mifflin 3 – Layla Chapman hit a double and triple and Cassidy Baxendell tripled for Seton LaSalle (1-2) in a nonsection win. Adilee Salopek hit a triple for West Mifflin (2-2). Mariya Chajkowski and Meadow Kennard also hit a double apiece for the Rebels.
South Fayette 17, Keystone Oaks 1 – Emma Earley threw a four-inning two-hitter and struck out 10 for South Fayette (4-2) in a nonsection win. Kylie Stahl singled for Keystone Oaks (1-3). Evie Vuono went 3 for 4 with two triples and three RBIs, Maddie Cavenaugh homered and Makenna Galish doubled and drove in three runs for the Lions.
South Park 11, Chartiers Valley 1 – Emma Hays went 3 for 4 with a double, triple and three RBIs, Kylie Mettrick went 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs and Kaitlyn Polk drove in two runs to lead South Park (4-0) to a nonsection win. Lily Duffill hit a home run for Chartiers Valley (2-3). Winning pitcher Sydney Sekley struck out 12 for the Eagles.
Thomas Jefferson 9, Montour 6 – Cam Noderer went 3 for 3 and Morgan Alisesky doubled and drove in two runs to lead Thomas Jefferson (2-1) to a nonsection win. Jade Schrenker hit a double and had four RBIs for Montour (0-3).
Uniontown 2, Indiana 0 – Emmaleigh Noah struck out five and allowed only two hits in seven innings for Uniontown (2-1) in a nonsection win. Noah also hit a home run. Maggie Cunningham hit two singles for Indiana (1-4).
Waynesburg 2, Mogadore (Ohio) 1 – Gina Tedrow struck out 18 and allowed only three hits in nine innings for Waynesburg (2-2) at the Ripken Experience in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Breanna Kerr went 2 for 3 and Ellie Makel hit a double for the Raiders.

Burrell 9, Yough 5 – Ryan Wass went 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs and Ryan Bates doubled and drove in two runs to lead Burrell (2-2, 2-0) to a Section 3-3A win. Jayden Huber went 3 for 3 with a double and Nate Bell doubled and drove in two runs for Yough (0-2, 0-2).
Carmichaels 14, Mapletown 3 – Colin Andrews doubled and drove in three runs and Parker Hewitt also had three RBIs for Carmichaels (2-1, 2-0) in a Section 1-A win. Carson Vanata singled and scored twice for Mapletown (1-4, 0-2).
Franklin Regional 18, Penn Hills 0 – Jonah Willochell threw a four-inning no-hitter, striking out 10, and NJ Ramchandran went 2 for 2 with a homer and five RBIs to lead Franklin Regional (5-1, 2-0) past Penn Hills (0-4, 0-2) in Section 1-5A. Brady Yarabinetz doubled twice and drove in three runs and Trey Muhitch doubled and plated a pair.
Greensburg Central Catholic 5, Jefferson-Morgan 2 – Anthony Grippo went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Brody Bothell and Bobby Smithnosky each had two hits to lead Greensburg Central Catholic (4-1, 2-0) to a Section 1-A win. John Woodward hit a double for Jefferson-Morgan (1-2, 0-2).
Waynesburg 13, Brownsville 5 – Derek Turcheck (1 for 2, home run, four RBIs) and Austin Surber (2 for 4, three RBIs) drove in seven combined runs in a Section 4-3A win for Waynesburg (5-0, 2-0). Alex VanSickle had two triples and two RBIs while Zachery Jiblits doubled and had two RBIs. Hunter Pelehac went 2 for 4 with a home run for Brownsville (0-2, 0-2).
Northgate 14, Hillel Academy 3 – Anthony Barron went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Chris Crawford and Jayden Turner drove in two runs apiece to lead Northgate (1-4) to a nonsection win. Dovid Blalock went 2 for 3 with an RBI for Hillel Academy (0-2).
Our Lady of Sacred Heart 14, Steel Valley 4 – Thomas Medwig had three hits and doubled in a nonsection win for Our Lady of Sacred Heart (2-3). Sean Hudac and Chad Minton also doubled for the Chargers. Logan Thomas doubled and Adam Keesecker tripled for Steel Valley (3-1).
Peters Township 5, Baldwin 4 – Jackson Stocker went 2 for 3 with a double and Colin Stofik drove in two runs to lead Peters Township (4-0) to a nonsection win. Aiden Robinson went 2 for 3 with an RBI for Baldwin (0-2). Reese Clarke also went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Indians.
Quaker Valley 14, Freedom 7 – Nolan Wagoner led Quaker Valley (4-1) with three hits, a double and four RBIs ina nonsection victory. Ryan Finamore went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI for the Quakers. Zach Kuntz went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs for Freedom (3-2).
Seton LaSalle 5, Keystone Oaks 4 – Mike Cejrowski drove in a pair of runs in a Section 4-3A win for Seton LaSalle (4-2, 2-0). Roman Keaney went 2 for 4 and tripled for Keystone Oaks (2-2, 0-2).
Hockey
Burrell 7, Edwardsville (Mo.) 3 – Luke Mink and Julian Kemp scored two goals apiece as Burrell won its opening game at the USA Hockey National Championships in the High School Division 1A bracket in California. Burrell took a 5-0 lead on goals by Ryan Burkett, Dante Taliani, Mink and Kemp (twice). Edwardsville scored three unanswered to make it a two-goal game. Mink and Michael Morasczyk added third-period goals to put the game away for Burrell, which will face Charleston (S.C.) at 2:15 p.m. Thursday.
Girls lacrosse
Canon-McMillan 15, Hempfield 3 – Eight players scored in Canon-McMillan’s Section 1-3A win, led Bella Urso’s four goals. Haylee Phennegar had three, while Halle Stimpson and Ally Neugebauer each had two for the Big Macs. Charlotte Auckerman,Hannah Goldsmith and Allie DeMatt scored for Hempfield.
Upper St. Clair 16, Peters Township 9 – Anna Capobres scored five goals, Molly Powell collected three goals and two assists and Ava Kiester made five saves to lead Upper St. Clair to a Section 1-3A win.
