High school roundup for May 1, 2025: North Allegheny wins series with rival North Hills on 1-hitter

Jackson Walsh threw a one-hitter with eight strikeouts as North Allegheny took two of three in a Section 1-6A baseball series Thursday with an 8-0 victory over rival North Hills.
Mason Smith had a double, triple and three RBIs and Nicolas Varlotta drove in two runs for the Tigers (12-6, 10-2). Gabriel Negri had the hit for North Hills (7-11, 4-7).
Allderdice 11, Keystone Oaks 2 – Lukas Stead homered and drove in two runs, Donovan Snelsire plated a pair and Satyan Chickering got the win as Allderdice (11-6) won a nonsection matchup. Shane Falcone and Anthony Liebro each doubled and knocked in a run for Keystone Oaks (7-8).
Armstrong 18, Burrell 12 – Hunter Reed went 3 for 6 with a pair of RBIs while Carson DeLano, Josh Fester and winning pitcher Chase Jablonski each plated a run to lead Armstrong (7-11) to a nonsection win. Bryce Hrivnak knocked in four runs and Ryan Wass finished with three RBIs for Burrell (9-7).
Avonworth 8, Mars 4 – Jack Dolan tripled twice and knocked in three runs, Mason Metz doubled and drove in two runs and Jackson Krul got the win for Avonworth (16-3) in a nonsection win. Finn Seideneck doubled and plated two runs for Mars (7-9).
Bishop Canevin 9, Serra Catholic 7 – Kellen Andruscik doubled and drove in three runs and winning pitcher Kole Olszewski went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI as Bishop Canevin (9-5, 8-2) beat Serra Catholic (13-3, 6-2) in Section 3-A. Jake Anderson doubled and drove in two runs for the Eagles.
Burgettstown 15, Frazier 3 – Brian Charles doubled and knocked in three runs and Sam Elich smacked a double and drove in a run as Burgettstown (11-1, 9-1) rolled to a Section 1-2A win. Aiden Hardy homered for Frazier (7-8, 3-7). Jayden Roach got the win for the Blue Devils.
California 6, Brownsville 3 – Kaden Weston drove in two runs, Chase Cicchitto doubled and knocked in a run and Logan Hartley got the win as California (6-8) bested Brownsville (4-10) in nonsection play. Hunter Pelehac had the only hit for the Falcons.
Carmichaels 12, Avella 6 – Brayden Andrews and Jordan Davis each drove in three runs and Parker Hewitt plated a pair to power Carmichaels (10-4, 7-3) to a Section 1-A win. Logan Fedak doubled and knocked in four runs for Avella (10-6, 6-6). Jase Zdravecky picked up a win for the Mighty Mikes.
Elizabeth Forward 8, West Mifflin 7 – A.J. Grese and winning pitcher Joseph Crovak each plated a pair of runs and Landon Jackson tripled, doubled and had an RBI as Elizabeth Forward (11-3, 8-2) squeaked out a Section 2-4A win against West Mifflin (14-4, 9-1). Jayvon Thompson tripled and had three RBIs for the Titans.
Ellwood City 16, Shenango 6 – Aaron Lake went 3 for 4 with a home run, two doubles and five RBIs, Jordan Keller doubled and knocked in three and Nathan Kennedy picked up a win as Ellwood City (14-4) routed Shenango (12-4) in nonsection play. Rick Zeigler and Trey Ross had two RBIs apiece for the Wildcats.
Greensburg Central Catholic 10, Southmoreland 0 – Winning pitcher Bobby Smithnosky struck out five in three innings and Jackson McMullen fanned three in two innings as the duo combined on a no-hitter in a nonsection victory for Greensburg Central Catholic (11-2) over Southmoreland (1-14). Smithnosky had two hits, McMullen drove in two runs and Anthony Grippo and Ian Shipley doubled for the Centurions.
Indiana 5, DuBois 3 – Ethan Shank and Tim Birch hit two doubles apiece for Indiana (16-1) in a nonsection win over DuBois.
Jeannette 5, Brentwood 4 – Dominico Ponzetti singled in the game-winning run as Jeannette (8-7) walked off Brentwood (5-11) in a nonsection matchup. Noah Rattigan homered and drove in two runs and Amari Thomas got the win for the Jayhawks. Aidan Barker went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for the Spartans.
Jefferson-Morgan 9, Washington 1 – Winning pitcher Drew Adams gave up one run on three hits and struck out 11 in a complete game while John Woodward went 4 for 4 with a double and four RBIs as Jefferson-Morgan (11-3) beat Washington (4-13) in nonsection play. Isaac Charnik doubled and drove in a run for the Prexies. Brenton Barnhart knocked in two for the Rockets.
Laurel 17, Aliquippa 0 – Matthew Shaffer doubled and plated three runs and Alex Medved, Brayden Faulkner and Connor Mackrell each doubled and drove in a run as Laurel (6-10, 5-5) shut out Aliquippa (0-12, 0-11) in Section 2-2A. Luca Bible doubled for the Quips. Winning pitcher Luca Santini gave up one hit and struck out seven in four innings for the Spartans.
Ligonier Valley 10, East Allegheny 0 – Duncan Foust threw a six-inning perfect game and struck out nine to lead Ligonier Valley (8-7) to a nonsection win over East Allegheny (0-14). Austin Harr went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Gavin Moore drove in three runs for the Rams.
McGuffey 5, Burgettstown 2 – Austin Johnson and Lincoln Johnson tripled for McGuffey (9-7) in a nonsection win. Jayden Roach hit a single for Burgettstown (10-2).
Mohawk 2, New Brighton 1 – Drew Wrona and Vinny Pezzuolo doubled for Mohawk (8-8) in a nonsection win. Casey Bloom hit a triple and Gaige Kovach doubled for New Brighton (9-6).
Moon 16, Beaver 1 – Nico Marasco collected two hits and four RBIs, Jake Warnagiris plated three runs and Thad Longwell tripled and had an RBI as Moon (5-9) defeated Beaver (10-6) in nonsection play. Ty Butler doubled twice for the Bobcats. Chris Sandor picked up the win for the Tigers.
Pine-Richland 11, Knoch 9 – Gavin Stugart doubled twice and drove in three runs and Jake Waddell plated three runs as Pine-Richland (14-2) weathered a six-run seventh inning from Knoch (10-10) to earn a nonsection win. Dante Pelloni and Alex Eddy each drove in two runs for the Knights. Noah Mackie got the win for the Rams.
Seneca Valley 4, Butler 2 – Nathan Lemke and Micah Olayer each drove in a run while winning pitcher Luis Torrenegra gave up two runs, one earned, and struck out four in a complete game as Seneca Valley (11-6, 8-4) defeated Butler (10-7, 6-6) in Section 1-6A. Boden Lenyk and Regan Peth each knocked in a run for the Golden Tornado.
Sewickley Academy 11, Monessen 4 – David Young had two RBIs, Jacob Stanislaw and Andrew Colletti each knocked in a run and Austin Fritz earned the win as Sewickley Academy (4-9, 3-4) dropped Monessen (0-14, 0-8) in Section 3-A. R.J. DiEugenio tripled and drove in a pair of runs for the Greyhounds.
Shaler 6, Hampton 0 – Brendon Fitzgerald knocked in two runs, Ben Yeckel tripled, doubled and plated a run and Kaleb Jockel doubled and had an RBI to power Shaler (12-4) to a nonsection win. Dylan Eichas doubled twice for Hampton (4-12). Victor Kieren got the win for the Titans.
Trinity 10, Waynesburg 0 – Matthew Robaugh, Kaden Hathaway and Owen Samogala each drove in a pair of runs as Luke Poland pitched Trinity (8-8) to a nonsection win. Alex VanSickle doubled for Waynesburg (14-2). Derek Falvo went 3 for 3 with an RBI for the Hillers.
West Allegheny 12, Blackhawk 4 – Brody Malatak drove in three runs while Teagan Tomei, Zac Lucas and Logan Lambert each drove in two as West Allegheny (7-9) beat Blackhawk (6-5) in nonsection play. Loghan Elich tripled and had an RBI for the Cougars. Brysan Zirwas picked up the win for the Indians.
Softball
Allderdice 10, Carrick 1 – Karma Morgan went 2 for 3 with a grand slam and six RBIs to lead Allderdice to a City League win over Carrick.
Avella 15, Beth-Center 12 – Avrey Rado went 3 for 4 with a double, triple and five RBIs and Mahalia Velez drove in three runs to lead Avella (5-10, 4-6) to a Section 2-A win, clinching the program’s first playoff berth in two decades. Bella Stepp went 3 for 5 with two doubles and four RBIs and Allison Lynch hit two triples for Beth-Center (2-12, 2-8).
Beaver 15, Ambridge 1 – Olivia Peabody went 3 for 4 with two home runs and seven RBIs and Sami Springman doubled and drove in two runs to lead Beaver (12-4, 7-3) to a Section 3-4A win. Caylin Fedora went 2 for 3 with a double for Ambridge (2-12, 0-11).
Bethel Park 13, Albert Gallatin 1 – Madison Timms went 4 for 4 with a double, home run and four RBIs, Courtney Roberts had a triple and four RBIs and Aubrey Campbell doubled for Bethel Park (9-7, 5-7) in a Section 4-5A win. Jenna Myers went 2 for 3 for Albert Gallatin (3-11, 1-10).
Brentwood 16, Ellis School 1 – Emma Thompson went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, Paige Boehm hit two doubles and Abbey Fickley drove in four runs to lead Brentwood (5-6) to a nonsection win. Maryella Wanless singled and drove in a run for Ellis (0-10).
Brownsville 12, California 5 – Ava Clark went 4 for 4, Lena Rechichar doubled and Jordyn Davis drove in two runs to lead Brownsville (9-5, 6-3) to a Section 4-2A win. Madyson Morton hit two doubles for California (2-10, 0-7).
Carmichaels 4, Jefferson-Morgan 1 – In the eighth inning, Kaitlyn Waggett singled and came around to score on an error to break a 1-1 tie and Ali Jacobs followed with a two-run homer to lead Carmichaels (13-0, 9-0) to a Section 2-A win. Brooklynne Snyder and Gabby Marmie hit a double apiece for Jefferson-Morgan (8-6, 5-5). Jacobs’ homer was her 100th career hit and the win was the 300th for coach Dave Briggs.
Central Valley 4, Blackhawk 3 – Aubrey Grater hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to lead Central Valley (6-6, 4-5) to a Section 3-4A win. Kylie Prisuta doubled and drove in two runs for Blackhawk (9-5, 7-4).
Charleroi 17, East Allegheny 0 – Ariahna Blouse threw a three-inning no-hitter and struck out six for Charleroi (8-7, 6-3) in a Section 3-3A win over East Allegheny (0-13, 0-10). Lyla Brunner went 4 for 4 with a double and three RBIs and Nori Stringa-Smith doubled and drove in three runs for the Cougars.
Chartiers-Houston 11, OLSH 2 – Lauren Rush went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs and Seanna Riggle doubled and drove in three runs to lead Chartiers-Houston (16-1, 10-0) to a Section 3-2A win. Leann Walzer went 2 for 3 with an RBI for OLSH (9-5, 7-2). Winning pitcher Meadow Ferri struck out 11 and allowed two hits for the Buccaneers.
Connellsville 10, Peters Township 1 – Cali Leichliter went 3 for 4 with a double, home run and four RBIs and Maggie Orndorff went 3 for 4 with a double for Connellsville (11-5, 7-4) in a Section 4-5A win. Madison Renda hit a triple and Makenzie Morgan doubled for Peters Township (3-13, 1-11).
Derry 8, Highlands 3 – Winning pitcher Haylee Myers struck out 10 and allowed three hits for Derry (8-8, 6-6) in a Section 1-4A win. Madison Gorney, MacKenzie George and Allie Valasek had hits for Highlands (9-4, 7-3). Myers went 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs.
Ellwood City 13, Quaker Valley 3 – Winning pitcher Amber McQuinston hit two doubles, Lena Lucarelli doubled and Crystal Folinio and Kaylee Palombi drove in two runs apiece to lead Ellwood City (10-6, 7-3) to a Section 2-3A win. Grace Carver and Olivia Hoose hit a double apiece for Quaker Valley (3-10, 1-9 ).
Hampton 11, Deer Lakes 2 – Aidan Hanna had three doubles and three RBIs and Marissa Snyder hit a double and home run for Hampton (13-3) in a nonsection win. Ava Shea and Sophia Laurenza hit a double apiece for Deer Lakes (7-11).
Hopewell 10, Gateway 0 – Allison Ramaley went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Tallulah Showrank doubled and drove in three runs to lead Hopewell (9-7) to a nonsection win over Gateway (3-12).
Keystone Oaks 5, South Allegheny 3 – Eveline Kyper hit a double and Kennadi Smith hit two singles for Keystone Oaks (8-8) in a nonsection win. Ava Brown had a triple and two RBIs for South Allegheny (12-2).
Knoch 13, Burrell 3 – Emersyn Jones went 3 for 5 with a home run and five RBIs, Grace Hensch doubled and McKenna Brailey drove in three runs to lead Knoch (17-1) to a nonsection win. Braelyn Jones had a single and two RBIs for Burrell (7-12).
Laurel 22, New Brighton 3 – Hailey Fell went 4 for 4 with a triple, home run and six RBIs, Lexi Kroll went 2 for 3 with a double and five RBIs and Ivy Pancher homered to lead Laurel (13-4, 10-2) to a Section 1-2A win. Kylee Kwidis and Liza Lambert hit a double apiece for New Brighton (5-10, 4-8).
Neshannock 9, Armstrong 3 – Addy Frye went 3 for 3 with a double and two home runs, Gabby Quinn had two home runs and three RBIs and Payton Newman also homered to lead Neshannock (16-0) to a nonsection win. Isabel Prazenica hit a home run for Armstrong (13-6).
South Side 15, Cornell 0; South Side 15, Cornell 0 – South Side (8-7, 5-3) swept Cornell (5-6, 2-5) in a Section 1-A doubleheader. In the first game, Maya Ringhoff threw a four-inning no-hitter and struck out eight and Madison Morrow had a double, home run and three RBIs. In the second game, Ringhoff threw a three-inning perfect game and struck out five and Halina Matijevich doubled and drove in two runs for the Rams.
Waynesburg 14, Bentworth 0 – Gina Tedrow threw a five-inning one-hitter and struck out 13 for Waynesburg (11-5, 8-2) in a Section 4-2A win. Zoie McDonald hit a double for Bentworth (7-8, 4-5). Kolbi Rastoka hit a home run and Aidan Snider drove in three runs for the Raiders.
West Allegheny 14, Montour 7 – Maylee Rider went 3 for 4 with two triples and three RBIs, Ava Henke had two home runs and four RBIs and Irena Santoro homered to lead West Allegheny (13-4, 9-1) to a Section 3-5A win. Shania Cope had a double, home run and four RBIs and Hailey Staub and Danielle Terpack homered for Montour (2-11, 0-8).
West Mifflin 20, Oakland Catholic 1 – Mia Bey went 3 for 4 with a double, two home runs and eight RBIs and Rylie Dobnak and Aubrey Jaskulski had a double and two RBIs apiece for West Mifflin (11-5, 9-2) in a Section 2-4A win. Nina Hillard and Natalie Waffensmith doubled for Oakland Catholic (2-11, 1-10).
Girls lacrosse
Quaker Valley 14, Aquinas Academy 4 – Alexa Westwood had five goals and an assist and Lucy Roig collected four goals and two assists to lead Quaker Valley to a Section 2-2A win. Kate Miller had two goals and two assists and Anna Campbell also scored twice. Mia Flora had a goal and two assists and Emily Reiner made 11 saves.
Boys volleyball
Canon-McMillan 3, Baldwin 0 – Justin Peters collected 13 kills, 14 assists, eight digs and two blocks to lead Canon-McMillan to a Section 1-3A win. Jack Steele added eight kills, Landon Patterson had six kills and two blocks, Nolan Rosing recored eight digs and Aydin Winkelblech handed out 14 assists for the Big Macs.
Derry 3, Summit Academy 0; Derry 3, Summit Academy 0 – Derry swept a rare volleyball doubleheader. In the first match, Duke Klapchar had 11 kills and John Kerin and Landon Campbell each served five aces for the Trojans. In the second match, Jaiden Beeaman had 15 kills and Klapchar added 11.
