High school roundup for May 16, 2025: Allderdice wins City League softball crown

Braelyn Altman threw a complete-game two-hit shutout with 17 strikeouts and helped her own cause with a double and a run scored to lead Allderdice to a 5-0 victory over Carrick in the City League softball championship game Friday.

Delia Graham singled and drove in a run for the Dragons (11-4). Ambrie Tinsley singled and walked for the Raiders (10-5).

Boys tennis

Central Bucks East 3, Gateway 2 – WPIAL champion Gateway (13-1) won second and third singles but dropped the other three matches and lost to District 1 runner-up Central Bucks East (16-1) in the PIAA Class 3A team tennis quarterfinals Friday in Hershey. Zidaan Hassan and Logan Memije won matches for the Gators. In a three-set match at No. 1 singles, Salil Ponamgi got past Gateway’s Adam Memije, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

Lower Moreland 3, Valley 0 – Valley’s postseason run came to an end in the Class 2A quarterfinals when District 1 champ Lower Moreland (15-2) won all three singles matches with Benjamin Chervoneva, Max Spodik and Gabriel Shapiro defeating Landon Harclerode, Tyler Quinn and Baxter Diehm of Valley (14-2) in straight sets.

Conrad Weiser 5, North Catholic 0 – Conrad Weiser (15-1), the runner-up from District 3, knocked out WPIAL champ North Catholic (13-3) in the Class 2A quarterfinals. The No. 1 North Catholic doubles team of freshmen Jake Sinclair and Paddy McCabe took Owen Hunt and John Tharp to a third set. Conrad Weiser won the other four matches in straight sets.

Unionville 3, North Allegheny 2 – Advaita Sircar and Evan Kaufman won the first two singles matches but WPIAL runner-up North Allegheny (16-3) lost the other three matches to fall to District 1 fourth-place finisher Unionville (18-3) in the Class 3A first round.

Baseball

Kiski Area 2, Bedford 1 – Noah Matson doubled and scored and Lucas Klimkowski singled and drove in a run as Kiski Area (5-14) defeated Bedford (11-9) in an exhibition game at PNC Park. Seven Cavaliers pitchers threw an inning each to combine on a one-hitter. They were Johnny Walker, Tylar Hanley, Austin Bachar, Henry Krogh, Dom Hand, Andrew Varner and Sawyer Ondish.
