High school roundup for May 23, 2025: Addy Frye fans 15 as Neshannock moves into 2A finals

Winning pitcher Addy Frye threw a three-hitter with 15 strikeouts to lead top-seeded Neshannock to a 4-1 victory over No. 12 Bentworth in the WPIAL Class 2A softball semifinals Friday.

Frye and Gabby Quinn homered for the Lancers (21-0), who will meet No. 2 Chartiers-Houston next week in the finals. Sofia Gaussa, Kayla O’Dell and Hailey Tatar had the three hits for the Bearcats (10-10).

Carmichaels 10, West Greene 0 – Winning pitcher Bailey Barnyak went six innings, striking out 12 and surrendering three hits, in the Class A semifinals for No. 2 Carmichaels (16-0). Six batters doubled for the Mighty Mikes, led by Ali Jacobs (two hits, four RBIs) and Carys McConnell (three hits, RBI). Katie Brudnock singled and walked for No. 3 West Greene (15-4). Carmichaels will face No. 1 Union in the finals.

Chartiers-Houston 7, Riverside 1 – Ella Richey went 3 for 4 with two home runs and Meadow Ferri threw a two-hitter with eight strikeouts in a Class 2A semifinal win for No. 2 Chartiers Houston (20-1). Lauren Rush (3 for 4) also homered and plated two runs, while Sydney English doubled and had an RBI for the Buccaneers, who will take on No. 1 Neshannock in the finals. Charlie Bissell went 1 for 2 and had an RBI for No. 11 Riverside (9-9).

McDowell 17, Allderdice 0 – Gabby DeLuca threw a three-inning perfect game with eight strikeouts and went 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs to lead McDowell (19-3) past Allderdice (11-5) in a PIAA Class 6A District 6-8-10 subregional game.

Mohawk 12, Ellwood City 2 – Ashlee Masters went 2 for 3 with a home run and Addy Moskal went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs to lead No. 2 Mohawk (15-5) in the Class 3A semifinals. Mylie Pistorius went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and Makenna Stewart had two hits and two RBIs for the Warriors, who will meet No. 1 South Park in the finals. Sara Schwartz singled and drove in a run for No. 3 Ellwood City (11-9).

South Park 9, Avonworth 6 – Kylie Mettrick homered and Emma Hays doubled and drove in three runs to lead top-seeded South Park (20-0) in the Class 3A semifinals. Grace Kempton and Jacie Hilligsberg each had two hits and two RBIs for the Eagles, who will take on No. 2 Mohawk in the finals. Emma Obersteiner hit a double and home run and Abigail Brooks also homered for No. 4 Avonworth (15-5).

Union 15, Jefferson-Morgan 0 – Mia Preuhs threw a three-inning one-hitter with six strikeouts and went 3 for 3 with two home runs and five RBIs to power top-seeded Union (18-2) to a Class A semifinal win. Korynne Shannon went 2 for 2 with two homers and five RBIs, Irelyn Fisher doubled, homered and drove in four runs and Olivia Benedict doubled twice and scored twice for the Scotties, who will meet No. 2 Carmichaels in the finals. Karlee Crockard had the hit for No. 5 Jefferson-Morgan (10-7).

Baseball

Carmichaels 4, Eden Christian 3 – Cooper Richards singled, doubled and drove in two runs as No. 6 Carmichaels (15-4) scored four runs in the top of the first and held on for a Class A semifinal win. Winning pitcher Colin Andrews and Brayden Andrews each had an RBI for the Mighty Mikes, who will face No. 1 Serra Catholic in the finals. Brady Hull went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI for No. 2 Eden Christian (15-5).

Freedom 8, Laurel 7 – Zach Kuntz hit the go-ahead two-run double in the bottom of the sixth to lead No. 8 Freedom (14-7) in the Class 2A semifinals. Xavier Robbins pitched two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win and collected three hits and an RBI for the Bulldogs, who will meet No. 2 OLSH in the finals. Colton Blank had two hits and three RBIs and Boden Hilliard and Nick Fessler each singled and doubled for Freedom. Kolton Carlson doubled and drove in two runs and RJ Kissick had a double and an RBI for No. 12 Laurel (10-11).

Quaker Valley 5, Mohawk 2 – Nolan Wagoner and Ryan Finamore combined on a two-hitter to lead No. 7 Quaker Valley (15-6) in the Class 3A semifinals. Wagoner pitched five scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out four. Oscar Roig went 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI and Brad Semonik doubled and drove in a run for the Quakers, who will face No. 1 Riverside in the finals. Jackson Chapman had both hits for No. 11 Mohawk (12-10).

Boys lacrosse

North Allegheny 8, Upper St. Clair 7 – Nick Sichak had a hat trick to lead No. 4 North Allegheny (11-9) to a win in the Class 3A third-place match and a spot in the state tournament. Sam Porter and Mason Brown each had a goal and two assists and Coleman Craft added a goal and an assist for the Tigers. Evan Proud and Ryan Buonomo each scored twice and Beckett Mayfield and Holden Rickel each had a goal and an assist for No. 3 Upper St. Clair (11-8).

Boys volleyball

Third-place matches — Penn-Trafford and South Fayette won consolation matches to advance to the state tournament. In Class 3A, Penn-Trafford (13-7) beat No. 5 Pine-Richland (11-7) in four games. In Class 2A, No. 5 South Fayette (16-5) downed No. 6 Mars (10-12) in four games.
