High school roundup for May 27, 2025: Elizabeth Forward softball blasts its way into state playoffs

Aubri Cimba singled, doubled and drove in three runs as top-seeded Elizabeth Forward pounded out 14 hits in five innings and defeated No. 6 Beaver, 11-1, in the Class 4A softball third-place game to claim the WPIAL’s final spot in the PIAA playoffs Tuesday.
Addy Nigut tripled and drove in two runs and Berlyn Holibaugh had three hits and an RBI for the Warriors (16-4). Julia Resnik singled and doubled and Hannah Evans and Sophie Pasinsky each had a double and an RBI. Olivia Peabody doubled twice and Abby Hojdila had two hits and an RBI for the Bobcats (15-7).
Avonworth 13, Ellwood City 2 – Jayla Jones went 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI and Emma Obersteiner had two hits and four RBIs as No. 4 Avonworth claimed a spot in the PIAA playoffs with a victory over No. 3 Ellwood City in the Class 3A third-place game. Sydney Savatt singled, doubled and drove in two runs and Lexie Savatt doubled and plated a pair for the ‘Lopes (16-5). Alexis Beck had two hits and an RBI for the Wolverines (11-10).
Riverside 4, Bentworth 3 – Addison Drake hit the go-ahead two-run single in the bottom of the fifth to lead No. 11 Riverside (10-10) in the Class 2A third-place game. Adelaide Burry had two hits and two runs scored, Saeryn Hoover went 2 for 2 with an RBI and Ayla Sterner picked up the win for the Panthers. Sydney Gonglik hit a two-run homer and Kayla O’Dell tripled and scored for No. 12 Bentworth (10-11).
West Allegheny 7, North Hills 0 – Autumn Bielecki threw a five-hit shutout with five strikeouts and Ava Henke homered to lead No. 3 West Allegheny (17-5) in the Class 5A third-place game. Alexis Santucci went 3 for 3 with a double and two runs scored, Katelyn Cook doubled and drove in a run, Alaina Pass had three hits and Irena Santoro played a pair of runs for West A. Lily Adamski singled and doubled for No. 4 North Hills (17-6). Both teams have qualified for the state playoffs.
West Greene 4, Jefferson-Morgan 3 – Melony Schreve singled and drove in a run and scored the game-winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh to lead No. 3 West Greene (16-4) in the Class A third-place game, claiming the WPIAL’s final spot in the PIAA playoffs. Kendra Tharp also singled and drove in a run and Payton Gilbert picked up the win for the Pioneers. Ashlynn Snyder drove in a run for No. 5 Jefferson-Morgan (10-8).
Baseball
Bethel Park 17, Peters Township 2 – Ryan Petras went 4 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs as No. 4 Bethel Park (19-5) won the Class 5A third-place game in four innings. Jack Bruckner singled, doubled and drove in three runs and Ethan Stanhoff and Owen White each had a double and two RBIs for the Black Hawks. David Oberschelp homered for No. 7 Peters Township (15-9). Both teams qualified for the state tournament.
