High school roundup for Nov. 8, 2025: North Allegheny girls advance to state soccer semis on overtime PK

Rosalia Varlotta converted the game-winning penalty kick in overtime to lead WPIAL champ North Allegheny to a 2-1 victory over Downingtown West (18-3-3) in the PIAA Class 4A girls soccer quarterfinals Saturday.
Kieran Shannon scored the tying goal for the Tigers (19-3-2), who will face Central Bucks East in the semifinals Tuesday.
CB East 3, Seneca Valley 1 – Taylor Roumy scored a hat trick to lead Central Bucks East (20-4) past WPIAL runner-up Seneca Valley (13-5-2) in the Class 4A quarterfinals. Cassie Leonard scored for the Raiders. CB East will meet WPIAL champ North Allegheny in the semifinals Tuesday.
DuBois 3, Fox Chapel 1 – District 9 champion DuBois ended the season of WPIAL champion Fox Chapel (20-2-1) in the Class 3A quarterfinals. DuBois will meet WPIAL runner-up South Fayette in the semifinals Tuesday.
South Fayette 4, Cocalico 3 – Lily Chiapetta scored off of a rebound in overtime to give South Fayette (20-2-1) a Class 3A quarterfinal win over Cocalico (19-1-3) at Greencastle-Antrim. Chiapetta added an assist, Gabby Beinecke scored two goals and Emma Ferrari contributed a goal and an assist. South Fayette will play Dubois on Tuesday in the semifinals.
Boys soccer
Abington 2, Fox Chapel 0 – Jaza Vasquez and Christian Hinkle scored second-half goals as Abington (20-2-3) shut out WPIAL champion Fox Chapel (17-3) in the Class 4A quarterfinals at Chambersburg. Abington will play WPIAL runner-up Seneca Valley in Tuesday’s semifinals.
Allderdice 4, West Allegheny 3 (SO) – Michael Bishop scored a pair of goals assisted by Ethan Voight-Cherna and Julian Dixon-Webster also scored as Allderdice (16-5) knocked off WPIAL champion West Allegheny (15-7) in a penalty kick shootout. Niv Freidman scored the decisive PK in the shootout, which the Dragons won 4-2. Anthony Mimna, Jensen Wolfe and Aaron Bouch scored for West A. Allderdice will face Conrad Weiser in the semifinals Tuesday.
Bentworth 5, Winchester Thurston 0 – Adam Moessner and Ryan Moessner scored two goals apiece and Billy Moyer also had a goal as WPIAL champion Bentworth (23-0) blanked Winchester Thurston (15-6-1) in the Class A quarterfinals. The Bearcats will meet OLSH in Tuesday’s semifinals in a rematch of the WPIAL championship game. Bentworth beat OLSH, 3-1.
Deer Lakes 2, Tulpehocken 1 – Jacob Orseno and Cuyler Crim scored to lead WPIAL champion Deer Lakes past District 3 runner-up Tulpehocken (16-7) in the Class 2A quarterfinals. Collin Rodgers assisted on both goals for the Lancers (20-3-1), who will face District 10 champ Fairview in the state semifinals Tuesday.
Fairview 4, Beaver 0 – Jackson Chiocco scored a hat trick to lead Fairview (22-0) to a Class 2A quarterfinal win over Beaver (17-6) at Franklin. Fairview advances to play Deer Lakes in the semifinals Tuesday.
OLSH 2, Lancaster Mennonite 1 – Trailing 1-0 at halftime, WPIAL runner-up OLSH (19-1) got second-half goals from Brady Hernandez and Aaron Callahan to rally past Lancaster Mennonite (15-5-2) in the Class A quarterfinals. Next up for the Chargers is a WPIAL finals rematch with Bentworth in the state semifinals Tuesday. The Bearcats won the WPIAL championship match, 3-1.
Seneca Valley 1, Warwick 0 – Owen Eastgate scored the winning goal in the 55th minute to lead WPIAL runner-up Seneca Valley (19-3) to a Class 4A quarterfinal win over District 3 champion Warwick (19-3-1). The Raiders will face Abington in Tuesday’s semifinals.
Girls volleyball
Avonworth 3, Everett 0 – Avonworth (18-6) won in straight sets over Everett — 25-15, 25-14, 25-12 — to win a Class 2A quarterfinal at Hempfield. Avonworth plays Corry in the semifinals Tuesday.
Beaver 3, Mars 1 – Kailyn Connelly had 27 kills and eight digs as Beaver (23-1) defeated Mars (18-6) in the Class 3A quarterfinals at North Allegheny. Anna Vinopal had seven kills, 15 digs and two aces for Beaver, which won 25-20, 25-21, 23-25, 25-11. Beaver plays Oakland Catholic in Tuesday’s semifinals.
Eden Christian Academy 3, Berlin Brothersvalley 2 – Ava Arnold led the way with 21 kills and Emily Muir added 18 for WPIAL champion Eden Christian Academy (18-4) in a Class A quarterfinal victory. The Warriors, who eliminated three-time defending District 5 champion Berlin Brothersvalley (23-2) on scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 23-25 and 15-9, advance to the semifinals Tuesday against Maplewood.
Maplewood 3, Frazier 1 – District 10 champion Maplewood (21-2) beat Frazier (15-5) in four games 22-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-9, in the Class A quarterfinals. For the Commodores, Maddy Salisbury had 13 kills, Addison Schultz added nine kills, Allie Monack dished out 14 assists Morgan Fisher added 13 assists and Addison Hiles finished with 22 digs.
Oakland Catholic 3, Greencastle-Antrim 0 – At Windber, Oakland Catholic (22-2) swept Greencastle-Antrim (22-1), 25-15, 25-23, 25-23, in the PIAA Class 3A quarterfinals.
Pine-Richland 3, Garnet Valley 0 – WPIAL runner-up Pine-Richland (16-6) swept through the Class 4A quarterfinals, defeating Garnet Valley (23-3) by scores of 28-26, 25-22 and 25-18. The Rams will take on Unionville in Tuesday’s semifinals.
Unionville 3, Peters Township 1 – In the Class 4A quarterfinals at Chambersburg, Unionville (21-1) defeated Peters Township (17-4) in four sets, 25-19, 24-26, 25-22, 25-19. Unionville faces Pine-Richland in Tuesday’s semifinals.
