Ellie Arnold scored a hat trick as Kiski Area clinched a playoff berth with a 3-0 victory over West Mifflin (3-10, 0-9) in Section 4-3A girls soccer Wednesday. Bria Bires and Emma Brink combined on the shutout for the Cavaliers (7-5, 7-3).
Armstrong 4, Hempfield 1 – Callie Adkins scored all four goals as Armstrong (7-6-1, 4-4) clinched a playoff berth with a Section 1-4A win over Hempfield (2-12, 1-7).
Baldwin 4, Connellsville 1 – Reagan Aston-Reese scored two goals for the second straight game and Tenley Fry and Gianna Harkins also scored for Baldwin (3-8-1, 1-6) in a Section 2-4A win over Connellsville (3-9-1, 1-7).
Beaver 5, Ambridge 0 – Alaina Mollura had a hat trick and Jocie Biela added two goals for Beaver (8-6-1, 5-3-1) in a Section 3-2A win over Ambridge (4-8, 1-7).
Belle Vernon 1, McGuffey 0 – Ali Watson scored the winning goal as Belle Vernon (9-4-1, 7-2-1) clinched a playoff spot with a Section 1-2A win over McGuffey (4-7, 3-6).
Bentworth 2, Brownsville 0 – Brielle Dillion scored both goals for Bentworth (12-1-1, 8-0) in a Section 2-A win over Brownsville (8-4-1, 4-3-1). Julia Brandau recorded the shutout for the Bearcats.
Beth-Center 7, California 0 – Alexia Fischer, Bailey Bernot, Emily Krocsko, Kendall Welsh, Ana Giovanneli, Dakotah Karkowski and Carrie Corbett scored for Beth-Center (5-7, 2-6) in a Section 2-A win over California (1-8, 0-8).
Butler 3, North Hills 0 – Cecelia Wolford, Malina McElroy and Lucia Leyland scored to lead Butler (6-6-1, 1-5-1) past North Hills (2-10-1, 0-5-1) in a Section 3-4A win.
Central Valley 1, Avonworth 0 – Aubrey Grater scored with an assist from Gia Gundolo to lift Central Valley (8-2-1, 6-1-1) past Avonworth (8-7-1, 4-4-1) in Section 3-2A.
Charleroi 1, Keystone Oaks 0 (OT) – Lilly Withers scored with two-tenths of a second left in overtime for Charleroi (1-11, 1-9) in a Section 1-2A win over Keystone Oaks (7-7, 4-3).
Deer Lakes 10, Ligonier Valley 0 – Claire Cacurak scored a hat trick and Tessa Hollibaugh and Reese Waruszewski added two goals apiece to lead Deer Lakes (11-2, 6-2) to a Section 4-2A win over Ligonier Valley (2-11, 1-7). Aby Kushon, Cadence Drum and Bri Simonetti also scored and Mikayla Potter and Capri Bogan combined on the shutout for the Lancers.
Eden Christian 6, Washington 0 – Alex Nacey and Violet McKinney scored hat tricks to boost Eden Christian (5-6) to a nonsection win.
Elizabeth Forward 4, Indiana 0 – Maicee Smith scored twice, Peyton Miller and Caylin Seabol also had goals and Annalise Didjunas preserved the shutout for Elizabeth Forward (6-5, 5-5) in a Section 4-3A win over Indiana (1-12, 1-8).
Franklin Regional 6, Greensburg Salem 0 – Allyssa Velasquez scored a hat trick and Addison Ayres recorded her 10th shutout of the season to lead Franklin Regional (11-3, 8-2) past Greensburg Salem (5-8, 3-6) in Section 4-3A. Halle Beatty, Ella Copeland and Elliana Canfield also scored for the Panthers.
Freedom 3, Mohawk 2 (OT) – Sophia Bruce scored two goals, including the overtime winner, as Freedom (5-6, 5-3) clinched a playoff spot with a Section 1-A win over Mohawk (2-8, 1-6). Jordyn Moehrle also scored for the Bulldogs. Audrey Whippo and Emma Trewella scored for the Warriors.
Freeport 2, North Catholic 0 – Camryn Woods had a goal and an assist and Nia DiSanti also scored to lead Freeport (12-1, 8-0) in a Section 2-2A win over North Catholic (9-4, 5-3). Alyssa Alcorn recorded the shutout in goal.
Greensburg Central Catholic 3, Apollo-Ridge 2 (OT) – Georgia Evans scored two goals, including the overtime winner, to lead Greensburg Central Catholic (2-4, 2-4) to a Section 4-A win over Apollo-Ridge (0-7, 0-7). Skyler Ashbaugh also scored for the Centurions.
Mars 1, Fox Chapel 1 (OT) – Miley Gratton scored for Mars (9-3-1, 5-2-1) and Summer Hill scored for Fox Chapel (11-1-1, 7-0-1) in a Section 1-3A draw.
Montour 7, Bethel Park 0 – Irelynn Hobbs scored four goals and McKenzie Hall, Brooklyn Young and Holly Zulka added a goal apiece to lead Montour (10-2, 8-1) to a Section 2-3A win over Bethel Park (1-13, 1-9).
Moon 1, West Allegheny 0 – Taylor McConnell scored for Moon (12-1, 10-0) in a Section 2-3A win over West Allegheny (7-6, 6-3).
Mt. Pleasant 10, East Allegheny 0 – Morgan Gesinski and Jaden Kantorik each scored a hat trick for Mt. Pleasant (10-3-1, 7-0) in a Section 4-2A win over East Allegheny (0-10, 0-8). Izzy Overly, Camryn Kapr, Lexie Baker and Samantha Hodge also scored for the Vikings.
Oakland Catholic 4, Albert Gallatin 1 – Avianna Gibbs had a hat trick and Najai McClary added a goal to lead Oakland Catholic (6-7, 4-4) past Albert Gallatin (2-9, 2-6) in a Section 3-3A win.
Penn-Trafford 10, Woodland Hills 0 – Emilie Oslosky scored a hat trick and added an assist, Ellie Lebe collected two goals and two assists and Tori Yurt also scored twice in a Section 1-4A win for Penn-Trafford (8-5-1, 7-2) over Woodland Hills (0-9, 0-8). Alannah Hall, Shannah Coleman and Emma Ginsberg also scored and Alannah Hall and Natalie Broadwater combined on the shutout.
Peters Township 4, Upper St. Clair 0 – Marina Hajnosz and Brynn Busch each collected two goals and an assist to lift Peters Township (9-1-2, 7-0) past Upper St. Clair (6-4-2, 3-4-1) in Section 2-4A.
Quaker Valley 8, Hopewell 0 – Annabel Miko scored four goals and Mia Duckstein had a goal and two assists to lead Quaker Valley (11-1-1, 7-0-1) past Hopewell (0-10, 0-8) in Section 3-2A. Hope Waller, Ari Bosh and Ella Plachecki also scored for the Quakers.
Seneca Valley 1, Pine-Richland 0 – Cassie Leonard scored to lead Seneca Valley (9-2-2, 6-0) past Pine-Richland (11-2-1, 4-2-1) in a Section 3-4A win.
Shaler 5, Obama Academy 0 – Naudia Zotter had a goal and an assist and Paige Querio and Liv Ryan combined on the shutout for Shaler (8-3-1) in a Section 1-3A exhibition win over Obama Academy (2-11). Melina Poliziani, Emily Evangelista, Addy Paladin and Caragh Brophy also scored for the Titans.
South Fayette 11, Laurel Highlands 1 – Mia Deramo racked up three goals and three assists, Silvanna Rossi had a goal and two assists and Gabby Beinecke added a goal and an assist to lead South Fayette (11-1-1, 8-0) past Laurel Highlands (5-6-1, 3-5) in Section 3-3A. Quinn Miller, Harper Zapf, Lily Chiapetta, Lyla Tarin, Lexi Deutschendorf and Ellie Brennan also scored and Emma Ferrari had three assists for the Lions.
Southmoreland 4, Yough 1 – Ashley Seder, Caylin Raymond, Hannah Conn and Mylee Street scored for Southmoreland (7-6-1, 5-3) in a Section 4-2A win over Yough (6-7, 4-4).
Thomas Jefferson 12, Uniontown 0 – Sami Maglicco scored four goals, Denika Bergmanhad a hat trick and Ali King and Nyla Kiral combined on the shutout for Thomas Jefferson (9-6, 7-1) in a Section 3-3A win over Uniontown (1-13, 0-8). Anna Kondos, Cece Wessel, Kamryn Marcinko, Natalie Narr and Sarafay Phirl also scored for the Jaguars.
Boys soccer
Allderdice 8, Latrobe 0 – Michael Bishop racked up two goals and three assists, Ethan Voight-Cherna scored a hat trick and Harrison Fiscus earned the shutout in goal as Allderdice (10-4) beat Latrobe (6-7) in a Section 3-3A exhibition match. Taahir Phillips, Luke Peña and Takumi Henderson also scored for the Dragons.
Chartiers Valley 1, North Hills 0 – Sam Miller scored the winning goal in the first half and goalkeeper Gavin Waldron made it stand up as Chartiers Valley (7-4) blanked North Hills (7-7-1) in a nonsection match.
Highlands 7, Leechburg 1 – Ryan Maloney scored five goals and Dean Besterman added a pair to send Highlands (6-5-1, 5-5-1) to a Section 1-2A win over Leechburg (1-12-1, 1-9-1).
Montour 5, Ambridge 2 – Brayden Borris scored a hat trick and Tyler Fritzius dished out four assists to lead Montour (8-6, 6-3) to a Section 4-3A win. Dom Passaro and Mitchell Braidic also scored for the Spartans. Ryan Lambert and Aaron Scheib scored for Ambridge (4-8, 2-7).
Girls volleyball
South Allegheny 3, Brentwood 0 – Ally Chizmar had 11 kills and six aces, Regan McBeth added nine kills and four aces and Cadence McBride had five kills and two blocks to lead South Allegheny (12-3) to a nonsection win over Brentwood (5-8).
Field hockey
Penn-Trafford 7, Hempfield 0 – Brooke Bauer scored four goals and Gabi Rubbe, Sarah Ley and Caeley Simon also found the cage for Penn-Trafford in a nonsection win.
Girls tennis
WPIAL doubles championship – The same two teams will battle it out for the Class 3A championship for the second straight season. Top-seeded Jackie Tang and Michelle Yang of Mt. Lebanon will face second-seeded Brooke Henderson and Alexandra Merkel of Shady Side Academy at 1 p.m. Thursday at North Allegheny.
When the teams met last year, Tang and Yang came away with a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
The top two seeds also advanced to the finals in the Class 2A bracket. No. 1 Veronica Zinski and Marann Buckanovich of Winchester Thurston will meet No. 2 Evelyn Marche and Macaria Stall of North Catholic for the title.
The surprise team of the Class 3A bracket was No. 11 Catalina Ramirez and Leila Hamade of Upper St. Clair, which knocked off the sixth and third seeds en route to the semifinals.
In the semifinals, Henderson and Merkel beat Ramirez and Hamade, 6-3, 6-3, and Tang and Yang defeated No. 5 Mackenzie Smock and Hadley Murello of Bethel Park, 6-2, 6-1.
The seeds held more in the Class 2A bracket.
In the semifinals, Zinski and Marann Buckanovich defeated No. 5 Jane Lenhard and Kate Miller of Quaker Valley, 6-3, 6-0, and Marche and Stall beat No. 3 Madalyn Arrow and Giada Cappabianco of Neshannock, 7-5, 6-0.
The top three teams in each bracket advance to the state tournament.
