High school roundup for Oct. 13, 2025: Chartiers Valley girls earn trip to playoffs

Layla Anthony scored a pair of goals to lead Chartiers Valley to a 3-1 victory over Trinity in Section 2-3A girls soccer Monday night, sending the Colts to the WPIAL playoffs for the first time since 2017.
Bella D’Eramo also scored for Chartiers Valley (6-9-2, 4-6-2). Cassidy Arthur scored for Trinity (2-10-2, 1-10-1).
Baldwin 5, Bethel Park 0 – Ella Schwarzmiller and Kelsey Meyer each scored twice and Avery Lieu had a goal and an assist to lead Baldwin (4-11-1) to a nonsection win over Bethel Park (1-15-1).
Belle Vernon 1, Southmoreland 0 – Courtney Martin scored the lone goal off an assist from Kelsey Roskovich as Belle Vernon (13-4-1) blanked Southmoreland (7-9-1) in a nonsection matchup. It was the sixth shutout in a row for the Leopards.
Carlynton 3, Serra Catholic 1 – Mariah Freeman, Greta Schriver and Shania Purdom scored to lead Carlynton (9-7-1, 7-5) to a Section 3-A win over Serra Catholic (7-8, 4-8). Bella Dumbroski scored for the Eagles.
Deer Lakes 6, Eden Christian 1 – Bri Simonetti scored twice while Claire Cacurak, Tessa Hollibaugh, Cadence Drum and Abby Kushon each buried a goal as Deer Lakes (14-2) defeated Eden Christian (8-8) in nonsection play.
Fox Chapel 3, Peters Township 2 (OT) – Emily McKee scored a pair of goals in regulation and the golden goal in overtime to lift Fox Chapel (14-1-1) to a nonsection win. Brynn Busch and Katie Froelich scored for Peters Township (13-2-2).
Franklin Regional 8, West Mifflin 0 – Allyssa Velasquez recorded a hat trick and Megan Kavo added a pair of goals to power Franklin Regional (14-3, 10-2) to a Section 4-3A win against West Mifflin (4-12, 1-11). Reese Regelski, Elliana Canfield and Keira Pokrzywinski each added a goal for the Panthers.
Freedom 7, South Side 2 – Sophia Bruce produced a hat trick to pace Freedom (7-8, 6-4) in a Section 1-A win over South Side (0-11, 0-10). Farisa Roberts, Jordyn Moerhle, Alyssa Bearer and Katelyn VanDeCar each added a goal for the Bulldogs.
Highlands 2, Valley 1 – Ella Prager scored both goals as Highlands (7-9) defeated Valley (0-13) in a nonsection matchup.
Kiski Area 6, Indiana 1 – Ellie Arnold had a hat trick and Val Klinensmith, Addison Bell and Marlee Koziatek also scored to lead Kiski Area (8-6, 8-4) to a Section 4-3A win. Maddy Williams scored for Indiana (1-15, 1-11).
Ligonier Valley 1, Johnstown 1 (OT) – Bella Butler scored for Ligonier Valley (3-12-1) and Lexia Sanders scored for Johnstown in a nonsection draw.
Mars 9, Obama Academy 0 – Miley Gratton and Jade Breese scored two goals apiece to lead Mars (12-3-1) to a Section 1-3A exhibition victory over Obama Academy (5-13). Addison Orehowsky, Reese Vuckovich, Mackenzie Powell, Maeve O’Leary and Mikayla Ostermann also scored.
McKeesport 11, Carrick 0 – Ella Kirsten and Gabriella Graham each scored twice to power McKeesport (6-9) to a nonsection win against Carrick. Eleanor Homer, Cimone Scruggs, Makenna Zuber, Adriana Allison, Rielle Holtzman, McKenna Minkela and Arianna Garcia each had a goal for the Tigers.
Moon 1, Montour 0 – Kendall Dydek scored on an assist from Riley LaFayette and Ainslie Romasco kept a clean sheet as Moon (16-1, 11-0) beat Montour (12-3, 10-2) to claim the Section 2-3A title.
North Allegheny 6, Allderdice 0 – Rosalia Varlotta had two goals and Mia Bosley, Averie Bierker, Bella Montgomery and Kieran Shannon also scored to lead North Allegheny (12-3-2) to an exhibition Section 3-4A win over Allderdice (8-7).
Pine-Richland 6, North Catholic 0 – Lily Rosenwasser scored a pair of goals while Riley White and Emme Kline each had a goal and an assist to lead Pine-Richland (14-2-1) to a nonsection win over North Catholic (12-5). Lex Hensel and Lily Meehleib each added a goal as Shea Best and Amelia Van Meter combined on the shutout for the Rams.
Plum 6, Greensburg Salem 0 – Gianna Revetta and Olivia Bigger each had two goals and an assist to power Plum (14-1, 12-0) in a Section 4-3A win over Greensburg Salem (7-10, 4-8). Hayden Wawrzyniak finished with a goal and two assists, Madi Stewart added a goal and Malayna Smith and Sophia Robinson combined on the clean sheet for the Mustangs.
Riverview 2, Apollo-Ridge 0 – Mary Quinlan scored a pair of unassisted goals and Maddy Martino preserved the shutout to lift Riverview (8-4, 7-3) to a Section 4-A win over Apollo-Ridge (0-10, 0-10).
Seton LaSalle 8, South Allegheny 1 – Sydney Morgan had a hat trick and Kennedy Bakota scored a pair of goals as Seton LaSalle (12-4, 10-2) defeated South Allegheny (1-15, 0-12) in Section 3-A. Brynlee Robinson, Tori Carter and Bella Stemple also scored for the Rebels.
Shaler 2, Gateway 0 – Naudia Zotter had a goal and an assist, Etta Warner also scored and Paige Quiero recorded the shutout to lead Shaler (9-6-1, 5-5) past Gateway (6-9-1, 2-7-1) in Section 1-3A.
South Fayette 3, Mt. Lebanon 0 – Gabby Beinecke, Paige Deklewa and Stella Medvec scored to lead South Fayette (14-1-1) to a nonsection win over Mt. Lebanon (12-5).
Springdale 6, Greensburg Central Catholic 0 – Hailey Marchlewski scored twice, Makenna Haas and Lacey Shondeck each had a goal and an assist and Genevieve Conklin and Addison Crumb combined on the shutout as Springdale (10-1-1, 9-0-1) defeated Greensburg Central Catholic (3-7, 3-7) in Section 4-A. Ariana Caltagarone and Adele Walters-Vrabel also scored for the Dynamos. Despite the loss, the Centurions qualified for the WPIAL playoffs when Ellis School also lost.
West Allegheny 3, Blackhawk 0 – Maddy Pons scored twice and Adele Smith buried her first career goal as West Allegheny (9-7, 8-4) shut out Blackhawk (3-10-2, 3-7-2) in Section 2-3A. Ella Smith had a pair of assists and Alicia Alwine kept a clean sheet for the Indians.
Winchester Thurston 1, Ellis School 0 – Freshman Iris Jarrin scored the winning goal as Winchester Thurston (10-6-1, 7-2-1) defeated Ellis School (4-7, 3-7) in Section 4-A. Despite the loss, Ellis School clinched a playoff spot when Greensburg Central Catholic also lost.
Boys soccer
Bentworth 5, Yough 0 – Adam Moessner recorded a hat trick while Blake Lusk and Billy Moyer each tallied a goal and an assist as Bentworth (16-0) blanked Yough (12-5) in nonsection play.
Brentwood 4, Carrick 1 – Samuel Malual netted a pair of goals and Mohammed Ismael and Lucas Castellano also scored to help Brentwood (7-8-1) to a nonsection win.
Butler 2, Blackhawk 0 – Ryan Conaway had a goal and an assist, Jude Perhacs also scored and Thad Mago earned the shutout in net for Butler (9-9) in a nonsection win over Blackhawk (3-14).
Franklin Regional 2, Gateway 0 – Cruise Lamanna and Michael Hillebrand scored and Emerson Bush kept a clean sheet as Franklin Regional (14-3) blanked Gateway (4-12) in a nonsection match.
Greensburg Central Catholic 14, California 0 – Grant Brewer scored a hat trick, Jared Dobrinski had two goals and two assists and Jason Eziagulu made five saves for the shutout as Greensburg Central Catholic (2-10, 2-6) cruised to a Section 1-A win over California (0-9, 0-8).
Neshanock 3, Sewickley Academy 2 – Zayden Herb scored twice and Vasili Neofotistis added a goal to lift Neshannock (12-4-1, 4-4-1) past Sewickley Academy (11-3, 7-2) in Section 1-A.
Norwin 1, Upper St. Clair 0 – Ryan Schoemer scored the winning goal with an assist from Logan Plichta and Reed Hoyle preserved the shutout as Norwin (10-5-3) picked up a nonsection win over Upper St. Clair (3-12).
Riverview 3, Trinity Christian 2 (OT) – Greg Morse had two goals and an assist as Riverview (7-8-1, 4-5-1) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Trinity Christian (8-9, 5-5) in overtime in Section 4-A. Morse converted a penalty kick and set up Eben Ulrich for a goal in the second half and netted the game-winner with an assist from Carson Bodnar in overtime.
Seneca Valley 3, Allderdice 0 – Max Gochis had a goal and an assist, Zach White and Ben Baroner also scored and Chase Good and Kyle Demaster combined on the shutout for Seneca Valley (14-2) in a nonsection win over Allderdice (13-5).
South Allegheny 7, Carlynton 4 – Adam Jackowski scored two goals and Kaden Gatchie had a goal and four assists to lead South Allegheny (5-11) in a nonsection win over Carlynton (1-12-2). Caleb Jackowski, Jacob Frum, Channing Hamilton and Connor Morabeto each added a goal for the Gladiators.
Springdale 12, St. Joseph 0 – Mason Mattie racked up four goals and an assist, Alex Wylly collected three goals and two assists and Brennan Mattie dished out five assists to lead Springdale (11-4, 8-2) to a Section 4-A win over St. Joseph (1-10, 1-9). Emir Halimic had a goal and two assists, Levi Bennett added a goal and an assist and Christian Stresky and Alexander Fugate combined on the shutout. Casey Dale, Gabriel Hudson and James Leahy also scored.
Girls volleyball
Beaver 3, South Fayette 0 – Kailyn Connelly had 12 kills, Aubrey Bumblis finished with 15 digs and Kayden Blinn had 22 assists and five kills to lead Beaver (15-1) to a nonsection win over South Fayette (8-7). Lanie Malobabich, Anna Vinopal and Jaedyn Brown each added five kills for the Bobcats.
Geibel Catholic 3 Turkeyfoot Valley 1 – Mallory Clemmer had 15 kills, 15 aces and 15 digs to lead Geibel Catholic (3-14) to a nonsection win over Turkeyfoot Valley (0-13). Nolace Petrosky finished with 18 digs and nine kills, Mia Speeney served up four aces and Riley Kizner added four blocks for the Gators.
Hockey
Deer Lakes 3, Connellsville 2 – Brayden Williams scored twice, including the game-winner in the third period, to lead Deer Lakes (3-0) to a Division 2 win. Mason Cervone also scored and Keaton Minnick made 33 saves. Matty Smith and Larry Barrofio scored for Connellsville (2-1).
Freeport 5, Montour 4 (SO) – Aiden Bauman scored twice, Alex Kobelenske and Bantam Semanko also scored and Preston Fandale made 36 saves to lead Freeport (2-1) to a shootout win in Class A. Trey Varga scored twice, including the tying goal with 3:14 left in the third period, for Montour (0-1-1). Logan Dobrowsky also had a third-period goal for Montour.
Latrobe 6, Norwin 4 – Jaxson Kettering buried a hat trick and Landon Miney added a pair of goals as Latrobe (2-1) beat Norwin (0-2-1) in Class 2A. Cal Constantino recorded a hat trick and Mason Howman added a goal for Norwin. Colton Goodlin also scored for Latrobe.
Mars 9, Greensburg Salem 2 – Ethan Vactor had two goals and an assist, Grant Weaver also scored twice and Garrett Myers had a goal and two assists to lead Mars (3-0) to a Class A win. Jake Fink scored twice for Greensburg Salem (1-2).
Moon 4, Meadville 3 (OT) – Clayton Foster’s second goal of the game was the overtime winner and Gio Thompson and Jordan Rieke also scored for Moon (3-0) in a Class A win. Ryan Yunik had a goal and an assist for Meadville (1-1-2).
Neshannock 4, Carrick 2 – Reece Feury, Marko Relic, Cole Chornick and Jacob Gauber each scored a goal as Neshannock (3-0) doubled up Carrick (0-2) in Class D2. Dimitri Valcheff and Chris Tomassi scored for the Raiders.
North Hills 11, Westmont Hilltop 2 – Christopher Muchar had a goal and four assists and Roman Grandstaff, Grant Koller and Jonathan Trosky each scored twice to power North Hills (2-0-1) to a Class A win. Cullen Carlson and Colby Carlson scored for Westmont Hilltop (0-1-1).
West Allegheny 7, South Park 2 – Maddox Luketic had two goals and an assist, Aldo Betta III finished with a goal and two assists and Coleman Milburn dished out four assists to lead West Allegheny (2-1) to a Class A win. Corey Mooney and Bo Baumiller scored for South Park (0-3).
Field hockey
Penn-Trafford 6, Norwin 0 – Brooke Bauer scored a hat trick and Caeley Simon, Sarah Ley and Gabi Rubbe each added a goal to lead Penn-Trafford (5-9) past Norwin (2-13) in a nonsection match.
Girls tennis
WPIAL Class 3A – Hadley Murello won a three-set match at No. 3 singles to lead No. 2 Bethel Park to a 3-2 win over No. 3 North Allegheny in the semifinals. Cami Fisher and Mackenzie Smock won in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the Black Hawks. The teams of Audrey Zheng with Rouxi Bai and Ella Mangene with Remi Hayward swept doubles for the Tigers.
WPIAL Class 2A – Avery Allan won a three-set match at No. 1 singles and the doubles teams of Jane Lenhard with Kate Miller and Lily McClain with Lucy John led No. 1 Quaker Valley to a 3-2 victory in the semifinals. Luciana Easly and Maddie Johnson won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles for Oakland Catholic.
