High school roundup for Oct. 14, 2024: Peters Township beats Fox Chapel in late-season clash of section leaders

Paige Malley scored a pair of goals to lead Peters Township to a 3-0 victory over Fox Chapel (15-1-1) in a nonsection matchup of unbeaten girls soccer section leaders Monday night. Marina Hajnosz also scored and Molly Kubistek preserved the shutout for Peters (15-0-1).

Albert Gallatin 7, Brownsville 2 – Ava Haft and Caileigh Theodori each scored a pair of goals to lead Albert Gallatin (2-11) in a nonsection win over Brownsville (0-14-1). Lacey Blair, Olivia Eicher and Isabella Dehaven each added a goal for the Colonials.

Bentworth 13, California 0 – Brielle Dillon scored five goals, Madelyn Johns recorded a hat trick and Megan Keturakis and Bella Moyer scored two goals apiece as Bentworth (15-1, 9-1) blanked California (4-8-1, 3-6-1) in Section 2-A. Lauren Jurovcik added a goal for the Bearcats.

Bethel Park 2, Baldwin 0 – Callee DalBon scored for Bethel Park (9-5-3) in a nonsection win over Baldwin (6-12). Freya Blatz, Sydney Felicetti, and Abby Stutzman combined for the shutout.

Butler 7, Latrobe 2 – Ava Soley and Lucia Leyland each scored a pair of goals to lead Butler (9-8) in a nonsection win against Latrobe (7-5-1). Sydney Patterson, Kat McGuire and Jess Calhoun also scored for the Golden Tornado.

Canon-McMillan 6, Thomas Jefferson 0 – Jenna Gasper, Sarah Coffman and Ella Shields had two goals each for Canon McMillan (11-3-1) in a nonsection win over Thomas Jefferson (8-6-1).

Carlynton 8, Serra Catholic 2 – Sophia O’Brien had a goal and three assists and Gigi Choate collected a goal and two assists to lead Carlynton (13-4, 8-4) to a Section 3-A win over Serra Catholic (2-11, 1-10). Riley Mauro and Grace Prepelka each had a goal and an assist and Bella D’Antonio, Greta Schriver, Riley Sunderland and Quinland Delorosario also scored for the Cougars, who set a program record for wins in a season.

Deer Lakes 4, Eden Christian 1 – Tessa Hollibaugh had a pair of goals and Reese Waruszewski and Kayla Penn also scored for Deer Lakes (13-3-2) in a nonsection win over Eden Christian (8-7-1).

Franklin Regional 7, West Mifflin 0 – Brooke Blakley and Abby Paterline had two goals apiece and Allyssa Velasquez, back from injury, scored her first goal of the year as Franklin Regional (12-5, 10-2) defeated West Mifflin (3-12-1, 0-11-1) in Section 4-3A. Eden Williams and Natalie Keough also scored for the Panthers.

Hampton 8, Penn Hills 0 – Eight players scored for Hampton (10-4-1, 5-4) in a Section 1-3A win over Penn Hills (1-15-1, 0-10). Goal scorers were Olivia Hoffman, Sydney Lewis, Sara Kenst, Kendal Hoolahan, Sophia Zebrine, Maggie Barnett, Gigi Rudy and Maddie Ashford.

Indiana 1, Kiski Area 0 (OT) – Sophia Scardina scored the overtime winner as Indiana (5-9-2, 4-6-2) clinched a playoff spot with a Section 4-3A win over Kiski Area (6-8-1, 6-5-1). Julia Antonacci made seven saves to record the shutout.

Ligonier Valley 5, East Allegheny 2 – Allyson Steffey recorded a hat trick while Arabella Steffens and Gabby Springer each added a goal as Ligonier Valley (3-12, 2-8) beat East Allegheny (1-9, 1-9) in Section 4-2A. Sydney Nellis and Kelsey Ace scored for the Wildcats.

Montour 3, Moon 2 – Grace Bannon scored two goals, including a successful penalty kick with three minutes left, to lift Montour (11-4-2, 8-2-2) past Moon (12-3, 10-2) in Section 2-3A. Irelynn Hobbs added a goal for the Spartans. Allie Delesio and Bella Taylor each scored for the Tigers.

North Allegheny 6, Allderdice 2 – Kieran Shannon had a hat trick and Rowan Barsotti and Aubrey Wells also scored to lead North Allegheny (10-5-1) to a nonsection win over Allderdice (4-10).

Pine-Richland 3, North Catholic 0 – Anna Amato scored twice and Emme Kline had a goal and an assist as Pine-Richland (11-5) won a nonsection game with North Catholic (13-3). Shea Best made four saves to record her eighth shutout and Abby and Riley Satina added assists for the Rams.

Plum 3, Greensburg Salem 0 – Emily Grubich led Plum (15-1, 12-0) with two goals and Mia Nardo added a goal in a Section 4-3A win over Greensburg Salem (6-10, 3-9). Makenna Anderson had the shutout.

Quaker Valley 4, Avonworth 0 – Annabel Miko had a hat trick and Ari Bosh added a goal to lead Quaker Valley (13-2-1, 9-1) to a Section 3-2A win over Avonworth (7-10-1, 4-6).

Riverview 6, Jeannette 0 – Hannah Hudack had a hat trick, Alix Delsaut added two goals and Katerina Tsambis also scored for Riverview (10-3, 8-3) in a Section 4-A win over Jeannette (0-12, 0-12).

Shaler 3, Gateway 0 – Gabby Alcalde had a pair of goals, Lia Wallander also scored and Naudia Zotter dished out two assists as Shaler (8-8-1, 3-6-1) clinched a playoff berth with a Section 1-3A win over Gateway (5-9-1, 2-7-1).

South Fayette 5, Mt. Lebanon 1 – Gabby Beinecke scored two goals to pace South Fayette (14-3) in a nonsection win over Mt. Lebanon (9-6-1). Emily Sinton, Mia Deramo and Lyla Tarin each tallied a goal for the Lions.

South Park 3, Keystone Oaks 0 – Alicia Riberich, Avery Rispoli and Ella Voyten scored a goal apiece for South Park (12-4-1, 12-0) in a Section 1-2A win over Keystone Oaks (10-8, 8-4).

Southmoreland 1, Belle Vernon 0 — Aubrey Seder scored the winning goal and Addyson Billheimer preserved the shutout for Southmoreland (10-7) in a nonsection win over Belle Vernon (9-9).

Springdale 7, Greensburg Central Catholic 1 – Bri Ross collected three goals and three assists and Molly Hurley had a pair of goals to lead Springdale (13-1, 12-0) past Greensburg Central Catholic (4-7, 4-7) in Section 4-A. Tessa Derringer and Carissa Walsh also scored and Hailey Marchlewski had two assists for the Dynamos.

Trinity 2, Chartiers Valley 1 – Raeghan Bruce and Cassidy Arthur each scored a goal for Trinity (3-10, 2-10) in a Section 2-3A win over Chartiers Valley (1-12, 0-11).

Waynesburg 5, McKeesport 0 – Kolbi Rastoka scored twice and Rylei Rastoka and Kaylee McLaughlin each had a goal and an assist to lead Waynesburg (13-2) to a nonsection win. Addie Cowell also scored and Peyton Cowell recorded the shutout.

West Allegheny 4, Blackhawk 0 – Ella Smith scored a hat trick and Chloe Hart added a goal for West Allegheny (13-3-1, 10-2) in a Section 2-3A win over Blackhawk (5-11, 4-8). Maddy Pons had a pair of assists for the Indians.

Boys soccer

Brentwood 4, Carrick 0 – Chris Lopez, Evan Mingle, Deng Noi and Mohammed Ismael scored to lead Brentwood (7-10) past Carrick (0-5) in a nonsection win.

Carlynton 7, South Allegheny 0 – Mateo Carrasco recorded a hat trick and had four assists and Hayden Wertz scored a pair of goals as Carlynton (11-5) shut out South Allegheny (3-13) in nonsection play. Hamza Alezzo and Sajjad Al Nawadi each scored a goal and had an assist for the Cougars.

North Catholic 9, Valley 0 – Justin Garvey scored twice and Arthur Mendonca and Michael Horton each had a goal and an assist to lead North Catholic (14-4, 12-2) past Valley (1-17, 1-13) in a Section 1-2A finale. Gabe Nonino, Angel Amelio, Gannon Pappas, Michael Riley and Evan Laubenthal also scored and Nathan Salac and Gabriel Martins each had two assists for the Trojans.

Norwin 2, Upper St. Clair 1 (OT) – Daniel Maddock’s second goal of the game was the overtime winner as Norwin (11-5-1) picked up a nonsection victory over Upper St. Clair (10-4-2). Ben Murtough scored for the Panthers.

Peters Township 8, Brashear 0 – Dante Pusateri had two goals and an assist and Carter Helbig and Bennett Lewis also scored two goals each to lead Peters Township (15-1-1) to a nonsection win. Keedan Kelly added a goal and an assist, Caden Hensler also scored and Markus Bizyak, Aaron Peterson and Jack Stewart combined on the shutout.

Ringgold 2, Bethel Park 1 – Niko Bove and Izaiah Wilson scored to lead Ringgold (9-7-1, 8-4-1) to a Section 2-3A win. Yusseff Benrabia scored for Bethel Park (11-5, 11-3).

Serra Catholic 3, Steel Valley 2 – Brayden Graham scored a pair of goals and Sam Rocco tacked on another as Serra Catholic (5-12) defeated Steel Valley (2-15) in nonsection play.

Springdale 2, Highlands 1 – John Duku and Benjamin Spencer netted a goal each to help Springdale (12-4) top Highlands (5-9-1) in a nonsection game. Ryan Maloney scored for the Golden Rams.

West Mifflin 2, Uniontown 1 – Jason Martin and Bryson Kincaid scored a goal apiece to push West Mifflin (3-11, 3-7) past Uniontown (2-13, 0-10) in a Section 3-3A win.

Football

Beth-Center 52, Mapletown 6 – Teagan Veatch had two 54-yard touchdown runs in the first quarter and Santino Revi made three catches, all of which went for touchdowns, as Beth-Center (1-6, 1-4) picked up its first win in the Class A Tri-County South Conference.

Desean Whipkey ran for two touchdowns and three a scoring pass to Levi. Jonah Sussan had the other two touchdown passes. Veatch ran 11 times for 192 yards and Whipkey had 12 carries for 102 yards.

Carson Vanata ran for 74 yards and Ashton Walker had a 5-yard TD run for Mapletown (1-7, 0-5).

Field hockey

Latrobe 2, Hempfield 0 – Macy Schultz and Samara Pedicone scored, Sara Blossey recorded an assist and McKenna Brackney and Erin Ulewicz combined on the shutout as Latrobe (2-9) defeated Hempfield (2-12) in a nonsection match.

Girls volleyball

Ligonier Valley 3, Neighborhood Academy 0 – Marlee Miller had nine kills and 27 service points, including 13 aces, to lead Ligonier Valley (8-7, 4-4) to a Section 5-2A win over Neighborhood Academy (7-8, 0-8). Rylee Monticue had seven kills and seven assists and Sydnee Foust added eight service points, including four aces, for the Rams.

Hockey

Blackhawk 2, Plum 0 – Matthew Hofer made 48 saves to lead Blackhawk (1-0) to a Class A win. Bryce and Dylan Leiper scored and Beck Harry had two assists. Noah Lander made 30 saves for Plum (0-3).

Burrell 3, Deer Lakes 1 – Julian Kemp, Ryan Burkett and Forrest Baird scored to lead Burrell (3-0) to a Division 2 win. Mason Cervone scored and Nikita Oleksiienko made 36 saves for Deer Lakes (1-1).

Chartiers Valley 10, Westmont Hilltop 1 – Noah Callendar scored a hat trick while Tyler Held and Ryan Kumpf each tallied two goals as Chartiers Valley (4-0) won a Class A matchup. Jackson Chorey, Darien Strosnider and Calum Staab each chipped in a goal for the Colts. Brett Hoffman scored for Westmont Hilltop (0-1).

Franklin Regional 5, South Fayette 4 – Luke Anderchak, Joey Casella, Brendan Yohe, Tyler Spears and Max Williams had a goal and assist apiece to push Franklin Regional (3-0) to a Class 3A win. Trevor Dalessandro and Mikhail Lobanov scored two goals each for South Fayette (0-2-1).

Freeport 6, Butler 3 – Landen Kozma had two goals and two assists and Aiden Bauman also scored twice to lead Freeport (1-1) to a Class A win. Tyler Hileman and Will Wolf also scored and Liam McKivigan dished out three assists for Freeport. Jase Renwick had two goals, Zachary Zandarski also scored and Brayden Hardsock had two assists for Butler (0-2-1).

Mars 16, Richland 0 – Grant Weaver scored a hat trick while Ethan Vactor and Jack Weaver scored a pair of goals apiece as Mars (4-0) rolled Richland (0-2) in Class A. Ben Bowser had a goal and four assists and Max Pitkins added a goal and three assists for the Fightin’ Planets.

Montour 12, Wheeling Central Catholic 4 – Thomas Barefoot collected three goals and two assists and Aiden Moskovitz had a goal and five assists to lead Montour (2-1) to a Class A win. Cole Dallas had two goals and two assists and Niko Sikorski and Trey Varga also scored twice. Aden Cooey had a goal and two assists and Braden Baker added a goal and an assist for Wheeling Central Catholic (1-1).

Moon 7, Hampton 0 – Landon Watson scored four goals to boost Moon (2-0) to a Class A win over Hampton (1-1-1-0). Eric Hartman and Clayton Foster each added a goal while Tyler Zeiger stopped 21 shots for the shutout for the Tigers.

Mt. Lebanon 3, Central Catholic 0 – Hayden Baych made 33 saves to lead Mt. Lebanon (2-0) to a Class 3A win. Parker Arlet had a goal and an assist, Cam Mayer and Griffin Krupp also scored and Liam Shinn had two assists. Ben Balla made 28 saves for Central Catholic (1-2-1).

Neshannock 8, Gateway 2 – Sam Mezzanotte scored five goals to power Neshannock (1-1) to a Division 2 win against Gateway (0-1-1). Grant Hennon, Will Kinchloe, and Travis Covelli each added a goal for the Lancers. Brendan Luptak and Tommy Tuskan IV scored for the Gators.

West Allegheny 7, North Hills 5 – Chase Noel and Mason McGrath each scored two goals to power West Allegheny (1-2) past North Hills (0-3) in Class A. John Wineland, Branden Switalski and Logan Dietrich also scored for West A. Christopher Muschar, Jonathan Trosky, Dillon Cobaugh, Tobias Kiger and Will Jackson scored for North Hills.
