High school roundup for Oct. 16, 2024: South Fayette beats Fox Chapel in battle of reigning WPIAL girls soccer champs

Gabby Beinecke and Emily Sinton scored a goal apiece to lead South Fayette to a 2-1 victory over Fox Chapel in a girls soccer playoff tuneup Wednesday night. The Lions (15-3) and Foxes (15-2-1) were both Class 3A section champions this year and WPIAL champions last year, with South Fayette winning in Class 3A and Fox Chapel in Class 4A.
Allderdice 4, Obama Academy 0 – Goalkeeper Hallie Cohen recorded the shutout and also scored a goal as Allderdice (5-10) secured the City League championship with a win over Obama Academy (3-12-1). Mo Neiss, Madie Schneider and Mikayla Sharif also scored for the Dragons.
Beaver 5, Hopewell 0 – Sydney Chontos and Lilia Battalini scored twice each as Beaver (14-1, 9-1) capped off Section 3-2A play with a win over Hopewell (1-10-3, 1-7-2). Ana Hahn contributed a goal and two assists for the Bobcats.
Carlynton 6, Beth-Center 2 – Riley Mauro had a hat trick to lead Carlynton (14-4) past Beth-Center (3-12) in a nonsection match. Gigi Choate had two goals and an assist and Sophia O’Brien added a goal and three assists for the Cougars.
Central Valley 6, South Side 1 – Raegan Patten recorded a hat trick and Nina Guandolo scored twice to pace Central Valley (7-7-2) in a nonsection win over South Side (0-15). Aubrey Grater added a goal for the Warriors.
Greensburg Salem 3, Hempfield 1 – Olivia Smith scored a hat trick to power Greensburg Salem (7-10) to a nonsection win. Jiana Patterson scored for Hempfield (5-13).
North Allegheny 6, Montour 1 – Kieran Shannon and Aubrey Wells had two goals apiece and Meghan Dutkovich and Addison Heim also scored to lead North Allegheny (11-5-1) past Montour (11-5-2).
Penn-Trafford 1, Kiski Area 0 – Shannah Coleman scored the winning goals and Rease Solomon amd Alannah Hall combined on the shutout as Penn-Trafford (13-4) edged Kiski Area (6-9-1) in nonsection action.
South Park 2, Bethel Park 1 – Arianna Beck and Ella Voyten scored for South Park (13-4-1) in a nonsection win over Bethel Park (9-6-3).
Thomas Jefferson 3, Elizabeth Forward 2 – Sami Maglicco had a pair of goals and Cece Wessel also scored for Thomas Jefferson (10-6-1) in a nonsection win over Elizabeth Forward (4-8-2).
Trinity 2, Chartiers-Houston 0 – Abby Higgins scored twice and Haley Mitchell recorded a shutout in net as Trinity (4-10) topped Chartiers-Houston (9-5) in nonsection play.
Waynesburg 4, Albert Gallatin 0 – Addie Cowell had two goals and Abby Hartman and Emily Rafferty scored once each in a nonsection win for Waynesburg (14-2) over Albert Gallatin (3-12).
Boys soccer
Allderdice 2, Obama Academy 0 – Aidan Thomas and Ben Pinkston scored a goal apiece for Allderdice (10-4-1) in a nonsection win over Obama Academy (7-10).
Beth-Center 4, Carlynton 3 – Parker Amos scored twice, including the game-winner in overtime, to lift Beth-Center (11-3-1) past Carlynton (12-6) in a nonsection game. Joseph Garrett and Reiner King added a goal each for the Bulldogs.
Canon-McMillan 5, Bethel Park 1 – Adam Kuchera scored a pair of goals to lead Canon-McMillan (11-4-2) past Bethel Park (11-6).
Moon 4, West Mifflin 0 – Aedan Costa had a hat trick, Fin Dengel also scored and Will Guarino and Sam Brancato combined on the shutout to lead Moon (18-0) to a nonsection win over West Mifflin (3-13). Hayden Dunn, Marc Haupt and Zech Balbach recorded assists.
Seneca Valley 5, Central Catholic 1 – Michael Pokrzywinski had a pair of goals for Seneca Valley (12-5) in a nonsection victory over Central Catholic (5-11-1). Tyler Prex, Zach White and Ben Barroner added a goal each for the Raiders.
Serra Catholic 3, Yough 2 – Caden Bauer netted two goals, including the game-winner, and had an assist for Serra Catholic (6-12) in a nonsection victory over Yough (4-12-2). Luke Perez also scored for the Eagles.
Thomas Jefferson 5, Elizabeth Forward 0 – Brayden Miller scored twice and Owen Householder, Jacob Surena and Kolten Smith had a goal each for Thomas Jefferson (13-1-3) in a nonsection win over Elizabeth Forward (12-5-1).
Girls volleyball
Frazier 3, Jefferson-Morgan 0 – Maddie Salisbury, Grace Vaughn, Allie Monack and Addison Schultz recorded nine kills apiece to lead Frazier (12-3) to a nonsection victory over Jefferson-Morgan (8-10). Gracen Hartman handed out 23 assists for the Commodores. Lucca Jellots had 15 digs and Isabelle Bazzoli had eight kills for the Rockets.
Girls tennis
Bethel Park 3, Shady Side Academy 2 – Cami Fisher topped WPIAL champ Meriwether McCargo at No. 1 singles, Julia Gobbie won third singles and Cassie Sierka and Kiera Ross took first doubles as defending WPIAL champion and No. 3 seed Bethel Park beat No. 2 Shady Side Academy in the Class 3A team semifinals. Brooke Henderson won second singles for the Bulldogs and Gabrielle Matzus and Elena Rubinov took second doubles.
Bethel Park faces top-seeded Mt. Lebanon in the 3A finals at noon Thursday at Washington & Jefferson.
Mt. Lebanon defeated Fox Chapel, 5-0, in the other semifinal.
Shady Side Academy meets Fox Chapel in the consolation match at 3 p.m. Thursday at Sewickley Academy.
Quaker Valley 4, Hampton 1 – Kirsten Close, Avery Allan and Jay Olawaiye swept the singles matches to help second-seeded Quaker Valley advance to the WPIAL Class 2A team championship with a win over No. 3 Hampton. Parker Barnes and Hannah Stein won second doubles for the Quakers. McKenna Restori and Ellery Robertson took first doubles for Hampton.
The Quakers advanced to play No.1 North Catholic, a 5-0 winner over Oakland Catholic, in the championship match at 2 p.m. Thursday at Washington & Jefferson.
Hampton will face Oakland Catholic in the consolation match at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at North Allegheny.
