Owen Householder scored on a first-half penalty kick and goaltender Sam Wessel recorded his 12th shutout of the season to lead No. 5 Thomas Jefferson to a 1-0 victory over No. 12 Shaler (12-6) in the first round of the WPIAL Class 3A boys soccer playoffs Saturday.

The Jaguars (16-2-1) will face No. 4 Moon in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.

Beaver County Christian 5, Chartiers-Houston 0 – Liam Birchler scored two goals as No. 4 Beaver County Christian (15-2) shut out No. 13 Chartiers-Houston (10-8) in the first round of the WPIAL Class A playoffs at Peters Township. Zach Stephens added a goal and two assists while Ben Crefeld contributed one goal and one assist. Beaver County Christian will face No. 12 Neshannock in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.

Bentworth 8, Brentwood 0 – In the first round of the WPIAL Class A playoffs at Peters Township, Austin Hollier scored four goals as No. 1 Bentworth (18-0) shut out No. 16 Brentwood (7-10-1). Ryan Moessner added two goals and one assist while Adam Moessner chipped in two goals. Bentworth will play No. 9 Eden Christian in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.

Bethel Park 6, Knoch 0 – Youssef Benrabia scored three goals to lead No. 2 Bethel Park (13-2-3) to a Class 3A first-round win over No. 15 Knoch (5-13-1). Bethel Park advances to face No. 7 Mars in Wednesday’s quarterfinals. Andrew Hughes, Xavier Jackson and Julian Kountz also scored for the Black Hawks.

Chartiers Valley 3, Trinity 2 – In the first round of the Class 3A playoffs, Vinny DiPietro had two goals and Aiden Ozbry scored one as No. 6 Chartiers Valley (11-4-1) defeated No. 11 Trinity. John Garcia and Cooper Cincinnati scored for the Hillers. Chartiers Valley will play No. 3 Franklin Regional in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.

Eden Christian 1, Beth-Center 0 (SO) – No. 8 Eden Christian (9-9) got past No. 9 Beth-Center (11-8) in a shootout after the teams played 100 scoreless minutes in the Class A first round. The Warriors will meet No. 1 Bentworth in the quarterfinals Wednesday.

Hampton 4, Belle Vernon 0 – Xavier Ware had two goals and two assists to lead No. 1 Hampton (15-2-2) past No. 16 Belle Vernon (8-11-1) in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs. Carson Colvin and Landen Bieker added goals while Gavin Guinn notched the shutout. Hampton will play No. 8 West Allegheny in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Moon 4, Laurel Highlands 0 – Rhys Hollowood collected two goals and two assists and Laercio de Sousa had a goal and an assist to lead No. 4 Moon (13-5-1) past No. 13 Laurel Highlands (11-8) in the Class 3A first round. Eric Haupt also scored and Will Guarino recorded the shutout for the Tigers, who will take on No. 5 Thomas Jefferson in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.

Neshannock 6, Springdale 1 – Zayden Herb scored all six goals to lead No. 12 Neshannock (14-4-1) past No. 5 Springdale (11-6) in the first round of the WPIAL Class A playoffs. The Lancers will take on No. 4 Beaver County Christian in the quarterfinals Wednesday.

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 14, Greensburg Central Catholic 1 – Hunter Smith scored three goals as No. 2 Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (16-0) shut out No. 15 Greensburg Central Catholic (4-11) at Moon in the first round of the WPIAL Class A playoffs. Brady Hernandez, Andre Kolocouris and Peter Zink added two goals each. OLSH will play No. 7 Sewickley Academy in the quarterfinals Wednesday.

Sewickley Academy 4, Trinity Christian 0 – Finn Wentz scored a pair of goals and Blake Wilmot and Ben Terrell added a goal apiece as No. 7 Sewickley Academy (12-4) blanked No. 10 Trinity Christian (8-10) in the Class A first round. The Panthers will face No. 2 OLSH in the quarterfinals Wednesday.

West Allegheny 5, Latrobe 0 – Anthony Mimna had two goals and Milo Kent added a goal and an assist as No. 8 West Allegheny (11-6) shut out No. 9 Latrobe (8-10) in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.Colton Yonker and Jonah Luffe also scored for West A, which will meet No. 1 Hampton in the quarterfinals Wednesday.

Winchester Thurston 8, Serra Catholic 0 – Nick Croft scored a pair of goals to lead No. 3 Winchester Thurston (12-4-1) past No. 14 Serra Catholic (6-12) in the Class A first round. The Bears will meet No. 6 Aquinas Academy in the quarterfinals Wednesday.

Neshannock 49, Summit Academy 6 – Jino Mozzocio threw for 206 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two more scores as Neshannock (6-2, 3-1) defeated Summit Academy (1-8, 1-4) in Class A Big 7 Conference. Mozzicio threw touchdown passes of 63 yards and Ethan Beaman and 25 yards to Ryan Cameron. Anthony Eakin ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns and Justin Edworthy also had a rushing touchdown for the Lancers.
