High school roundup for Oct. 19, 2023: North Allegheny girls volleyball caps regular season with win over Pine-Richland

Jamie Frisco had 13 kills to lead North Allegheny to a 3-0 victory over Pine-Richland in Section 1-4A girls volleyball Thursday night. Marin Dunaway added eight kills, Molly Robertson had 24 assists and Avery Butcher contributed 10 digs for the Tigers (13-1, 8-0), who finished their section schedule undefeated.

Beaver 3, Ellwood City 0 – Chloe List had 15 kills, Kailyn Connelly followed with 11 kills and Jaedyn Brown added seven kills, five digs and three aces for Beaver (16-0, 14-0) in a Section 1-2A win over Ellwood City.

Canon McMillan 3, Bethel Park 0 – Natalie Carr had 18 kills and 12 digs and Josie Carter had 16 assists and five digs to lead Canon McMillan (13-3, 9-1) past Bethel Park, clinching the Section 2-4A title.

Hampton 3, Woodland Hills 0 – Emmy Schrom had seven kills, Avery Koontz had six digs and four aces and Lilly Muczinski had 19 assists for Hampton (18-0, 12-0) in a Section 1-3A win over Woodland Hills.

Knoch 3, New Castle 1 – Sierra Mock had eight kills and Avery Adams and Karlee Buterbaugh each recorded 11 service points in a Section 4-3A win for Knoch (13-5, 9-3).

Mars 3, Lincoln Park 0 – Lilly Javor had a team-high six kills and Ella Nicotra broke the school single-season kills record as Mars picked up a Section 4-3A win. Hailey Duker handed out 16 assists.

Southmoreland 3, McGuffey 0 – Taylor Doppelheuer had 17 kills and five blocks and Kaylee Doppelheuer had 10 kills as Southmoreland (18-0, 16-0) won in Section 3-2A to complete an undefeated regular season.

Football

University Prep 32, Perry 8 – Daniel Cain scored three touchdowns, two on passes from Jaquille McIntosh and one on the ground, to lead University Prep to victory in a City League semifinal. McIntosh also hit Malik McDougal with a scoring strike and Donovan Moorefield added a rushing touchdown for USO. Demir Frison scored on an interception return for a touchdown for Perry (1-7). University Prep (7-2) will face the winner of Friday’s semifinal matchup between Allderdice and Westinghouse in the City League championship game on Oct. 28.

Uniontown 14, Petersburg (WV) 6 – Cameron Jackson had a 67-yard touchdown pass to K’Adrian McLee and an 11-yard TD run to lead Uniontown (3-6) to a nonsection win. Trace Rohrbaugh had a 2-yard touchdown run and two interceptions for Petersburg.

Field hockey

Fox Chapel 4, Norwin 0 – Annalese Bartolacci scored two goals and Melanie Pietz and Emma Srodes added a goal apiece for Fox Chapel in a nonsection win over Norwin. Mackenzie Ben recorded the shutout for the Foxes.

Penn-Trafford 5, Oakland Catholic 0 – Ava Hershberger scored four times, Maura Spadone added a goal and Mackenzie Keenan had an assist for Penn-Trafford in a Section 2A victory.

Hockey

Bethel Park 8, Baldwin 2 – Anthony Karner had two goals and two assists and Doug Hartman added two goals and an assist for Bethel Park (3-1) in a Class 3A victory. Ryan Tierney had a goal and an assist. Logan Cramer and Trevor Bain scored for Baldwin (0-2).

Burrell 9, Central Valley 2 – Tyler Danko and Mike Morazcyzk each had three goals and an assist and Jared Wall collected two goals and two assists to power Burrell (2-1) to a Varsity D2 win. Gage Helbig had a goal and an assist for Central Valley (1-1).

Central Catholic 5, Seneca Valley 2 – Noah Hritz scored twice and Anthony D’Orazio had a goal and an assist to help Central Catholic (2-1) to a Class 3A win. Griffin Lewis and Judah Brophy also scored for Central Catholic. Jacob Komaniak and Ian Uram scored for Seneca Valley (1-2).

Chartiers Valley 11, Westmont Hilltop 0 – Noah Callender collected three goals and an assist and Brayden Knights and Sean Taylor each had a goal and an assist for Chartiers Valley (3-0) in a Class A win over Westmont Hilltop (0-1).

Deer Lakes 9, Wilmington 1 – Mason Cervone had a hat trick, RJ Noullet scored twice and Ryan Grunden had a goal and two assists for Deer Lakes (3-1) in a Varsity D2 win. Nate Pitzer scored for Wilmington (0-2).

Elizabeth Forward 7, Knoch 4 – Doug Hoffman had a hat trick and Joey Wach added two goals for Elizabeth Forward (1-2) in a Varsity D2 win. Synjun McHattie and Cam Christie had a goal and an assist apiece for Knoch (1-2).

Indiana 8, Montour 6 – Phil Bell had two goals and an assist and Ash Lockard and Garrett Goodrich also scored two goals apiece as Indiana (3-1) won a Class A matchup. Hunter Fielder had four goals and two assists and Jonah Camardese Woodruff added a goal and three assists for Montour (0-3).

Moon 6, Beaver 3 – Noah Driscoll scored four goals and Luke Jefferies had a goal and two assists to lead Moon (2-0) to a Class A win. Carson Cuddy had a goal and an assist for Beaver (1-2).

Mt. Lebanon 9, Cathedral Prep 1 – Liam Shinn and Jackson Bell each had a goal and an assist to lead Mt. Lebanon (2-1) to a Class 3A win. Sawyer Klasnick added a goal and two assists. Ethan Cunningham scored for Cathedral Prep (1-2).

Pine-Richland 5, North Allegheny 4 – Zachary Howard scored twice and Cullen Campbell and Josh Lanyard each had a goal and an assist for Pine-Richland (2-1) in a Class 3A win. Marc Joyson had a goal and an assist for North Allegheny (2-1).

Quaker Valley 5, Greensburg Salem 2 – Jace Vasbinder scored two goals and Luke Koehler, Max Modrovich and Jacob Keisel added a goal apiece for Quaker Valley (3-0) in a Class A win. Will Watson had two assists. Mikey Kingerski and Luke Dieter scored for Greensburg Salem (2-3).

Thomas Jefferson 6, Hempfield 3 – Andrew Oliver had a five-point night with three goals and two assists to lead Thomas Jefferson (4-0) to a Class 2A win. Jake Stock had a goal and two assists and Scott Allan and Derek Schliebner also scored for TJ. Mats Martz and Max Gromoll each had a goal and an assist for Hempfield (1-1).

Upper St. Clair 3, Peters Township 0 – Owen Laurent made 35 saves to record the shutout as Upper St. Clair (2-1) beat Peters Township (1-2) in Class 3A. Eli Rankin had a goal and an assist and Collin McCarthy and Grahm Tauch also scored.
