High school roundup for Oct. 20, 2025: Fox Chapel’s Emily McKee kicks off playoffs with 5-goal night

Emily McKee scored five goals to lead top-seeded Fox Chapel to a 7-0 victory over No. 16 Laurel Highlands (6-9-1) in a WPIAL Class 3A girls soccer first-round game Monday.
Lily McLaughlin and Ella Ettinger also scored for the Foxes (16-1-1), who will meet No. 9 West Allegheny in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Canon-McMillan 4, Latrobe 1 – Ella Shields netted two goals and Ariane Saintonge added a goal and two assists for No. 8 Canon-McMillan (9-6-1) in a Class 4A first-round win. Annalyse Bauer scored for No. 9 Latrobe (8-7). Sarah Coffman also scored for the Big Macs, who will face No. 1 Peters Township in Thursday’s quarterfinal.
Mars 1, Kiski Area 0 – Miley Gratton scored to lead No. 5 Mars (14-3-1) past No.12 Kiski Area (8-8) in a Class 3A first-round win. The Fightin’ Planets will meet No. 4 Plum in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Montour 1, Hampton 0 (OT) – Kaci Mitcheltree scored the game-winning goal with 4:19 remaining in double overtime to send No. 7 Montour (13-4) to a Class 3A first-round victory over No. 10 Hampton (10-7-1). The Spartans will meet No. 2 South Fayette in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Moon 3, Oakland Catholic 0 – Junie Shaver scored twice and Kendall Dydek added a goal to lead No. 3 Moon (17-1) past No. 14 Oakland Catholic (8-9) in a Class 3A first-round win. The Tigers will meet No. 11 Shaler in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Mt. Lebanon 4, Butler 3 – No. 6 Mt. Lebanon (13-5) got past No. 11 Butler (7-9-1) in the Class 4A first round. The Blue Devils will visit No. 3 Norwin in the quarterfinals Thursday.
North Allegheny 7, Armstrong 0 – Averie Bierker scored twice and Jordan Beemer preserved the shutout as No. 5 North Allegheny (14-3-2) rolled past No. 12 Armstrong (7-11-1) in the Class 4A first round. Rosalia Varlotta, Maddie Williams, Mwende Abai, Kieran Shannon and Bella Montgomery also scored for the Tigers, who will meet No. 4 Pine-Richland in the quarterfinals Thursday.
South Fayette 5, Elizabeth Forward 0 – Gabby Beinecke scored two goals and Mia Deramo, Stella Medvec and Abbey Spalla added a goal apiece for No. 2 South Fayette (16-1-1) in a Class 3A first-round win over No. 15 Elizabeth Forward (7-7). The Lions will meet No. 7 Montour in Thursday’s quarterfinal.
Upper St. Clair 2, Penn-Trafford 1 – Audrey Bodamer scored the game-winner, Chloe Bird also had a goal and Mary Mascaro dished out two assists as No. 7 Upper St. Clair (10-5-2) came back from an early deficit to win in the Class 4A first round. Riley McIntosh scored with an assist to Kylee McClintock for No. 10 Penn-Trafford (10-7-1).
West Allegheny 3, Thomas Jefferson 2 (OT) – Mia Bardelli scored the game-winning goal in overtime for No. 9 West Allegheny (10-8) in a Class 3A first-round win over No. 8 Thomas Jefferson (10-9). Jocelyn Rosborough and Eliana Rosenwald scored for West A, which will meet No. 1 Fox Chapel in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Boys soccer
Avonworth 3, McGuffey 0 – Cody Cwynar and Alpha Diallo scored and Hudson Boyd recorded the shutout as No. 4 Avonworth (16-2-1) blanked No. 13 McGuffey (12-7) in the Class 2A first round. The Antelopes will take on No. 5 Mt. Pleasant in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Beaver 6, Charleroi 0 – Shane Ebbitt had two goals and an assist and Seth Kullen also scored twice to help No. 9 Beaver (14-4) blank No. 8 Charleroi (13-5) in the Class 2A first round. Anthony Furda had a goal and an assist and Luke Conner also scored for the Bobcats, who will meet No. 1 South Park in the quarterfinals Thursday.
North Catholic 7, Yough 1 – Justin Garvey had two goals and two assists and Arthur Mendonca also scored twice to lead No. 3 North Catholic (16-1-1) past No. 14 Yough (13-6) in the Class 2A first round. Brody Kennedy had a goal and an assist and Angelo Amelio and Jackson Schlegel also scored for the Trojans, who will face No. 6 Deer Lakes in the quarterfinals Thursday.
Quaker Valley 5, Highlands 1 – Connor West scored twice and Sutton Hoehl, Isaac Williams and Patrick Connors each added a goal as No. 2 Quaker Valley (16-2-1) picked up a Class 2A first-round win. Ryan Maloney scored for No. 15 Highlands (8-8-1). The Quakers will meet No. 10 Shady Side Academy in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Shady Side Academy 4, Seton LaSalle 1 – Mark Bence had two goals and two assists and Liam McKim and Manek Gerhardy also scored to power No. 10 Shady Side Academy (12-4-1) past No. 7 Seton LaSalle (15-4) in the Class 2A first round. The Bulldogs will face No. 3 North Catholic in the quarterfinals Thursday.
South Park 1, Southmoreland 0 – Top-seeded South Park (18-1) got a goal from Ethan Aultz late in the first half and made it stand up in a Class 2A first-round win over No. 16 Southmoreland (8-11). The Eagles will face No. 9 Beaver in Thursday’s quarterfinals.
Volleyball
South Allegheny 3, Carlynton 0 – Reagan McBeth had 13 kills and Ally Chizmar and Naomi Ielase added five kills apiece to lead No. 13 South Allegheny (14-5) past No. 19 Carlynton (6-9) in a Class 2A preliminary round playoff win. Bailey DeCecco had five aces for the Gladiators, who will face No. 4 OLSH in the first round Tuesday.
In the other Class 2A preliminary round matches, Shenango swept Deer Lakes, 3-0, Quaker Valley edged out Keystone Oaks, 3-2, and McGuffey 3 got past Chartiers-Houston, 3-2.
In Class 3A, Derry swept Franklin Regional, 3-0, and Ringgold beat Blackhawk, 3-0.

Avonworth 13, Westmont Hilltop 0 – Luke Ermlich had three goals and an assist, Linus Jesionowski also had a hat trick and Brendan Hennigan scored twice to lead Avonworth (2-1-1) to a Class A win over Westmont Hilltop (0-3).
Blackhawk 3, Moon 2 (OT) – Dominic Giocondi netted the overtime winner, Daniel Ostrom had a goal and an assist and Cooper Keister also scored for Blackhawk (1-0) in a Class A win. Clayton Foster and Tanner Deselle scored for Moon (4-0-1).
Deer Lakes 8, Central Valley 3 – Mason Cervone scored a hat trick and added two assists, Max Redinger had two goals and two assists and Luciano Porco made 30 saves to lead Deer Lakes (4-0) to a Division 2 victory. Danny Duncan, Treyton Palocsik and Caleb McQuaid scored for Central Valley (0-2).
Franklin Regional 5, Central Catholic 4 – Joey Casella completed his hat trick with the winning goal with 1:35 left in regulation, leading Franklin Regional (1-1) to a Class 3A win. Brendan Yohe and JJ Tensuan also scored for Franklin Regional. Aaron Daley and Chris Sargo each had a goal and an assist for Central Catholic (3-1).
Greensburg Salem 7, West Allegheny 1 – Jake Fink had two goals and two assists, Luke Dieter also scored twice and Jackson Klingensmith made 26 saves for Greensburg Salem (2-3) in a Class A victory. Tyler Lokey scored for West Allegheny (3-2).
Hempfield 5, Norwin 0 – Nick Crupie had two goals and an assist, JJ Williams added a goal and two assists and Aiden Nader made 16 saves to earn the shutout as Hempfield (3-0) beat Norwin (0-3-1) in Class 2A.
Knoch 11, Sewickley Academy 2 – Cross Swaney had four goals and an assist, Peyton McIntyre finished with two goals and two assists and Synjun McHattie had two goals and an assist to send Knoch (2-3) to a Division 2 win. John Paul Lieb and Jacob Stanislaw scored for Sewickley Academy (1-3).
Meadville 12, Montour 4 – Ryan Yunik racked up seven goals and two assists to power Meadville (2-1-2) to a Class A win. Trey Varga had a hat trick for Montour (0-2-1).
Neshannock 7, Wilmington 1 – Marko Relic collected two goals and an assist and Jacob Gruber and Shane Johns added a goal and an assist apiece to power Neshannock (4-0) to a Division 2 win. Brody Young scored for Wilmington (0-1).
North Catholic 4, Beaver 3 – Connor Bradrick scored a pair of third-period goals to lift North Catholic (1-1) to a Class A win. Samuel Langer and Kevin Kilkeary also scored and Wyatt Cleveland made 30 saves for North Catholic. Sammy Mecchia had a goal and two assists for Beaver (1-2).
North Hills 2, Mars 1 (OT) – Blake Kunkel scored the overtime winner for North Hills (4-0-1) in a Class A victory. Kunkel and Christopher Muschar each had a goal and an assist and Parker Talerico made 36 saves for North Hills. Garrett Myers scored for Mars (3-0-1).
