High school roundup for Oct. 21, 2025: Francis Randiga’s golden goal sends North Allegheny past Mt. Lebanon

Francis Randiga scored the overtime winner, sending No. 8 North Allegheny to a 1-0 victory over No. 9 Central Catholic (10-5-3) in the first round of the WPIAL Class 4A boys soccer playoffs Tuesday. The Tigers (10-5-3) will face No. 1 Peters Township in the quarterfinals Saturday.

Canon-McMillan 9, Hempfield 0 – Cole Debbis scored a pair of goals to lead No. 5 Canon-McMillan (14-3) past No. 12 Hempfield (5-12) in the Class 4A first round. The Big Macs will face No. 4 Seneca Valley in the quarterfinals Saturday. Other Canon-McMillan goal scorers were Elijah Krisher, Adam Kuchera, Gavin Patterson, Levi Good, Julian Saintonge, Gabe Fegely and Ben Debbis.

Pine-Richland 2, Mt. Lebanon 1 (SO) – Jack Kichi scored in regulation and the Rams won 4-2 in the penalty kick shootout as No. 10 Pine-Richland (6-10-2) got past No. 7 Mt. Lebanon (12-5-2) in the Class 4A first round. Simon Marks scored for the Blue Devils. Pine-Richland will meet No. 2 Fox Chapel in the quarterfinals Saturday.

Girls soccer

Bentworth 3, Freedom 2 – Brielle Dillon scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner with less than two minutes to play, as No. 2 Bentworth (16-1-1) got past No. 15 Freedom (7-9) in the Class A first round. Bella Moyer also scored for the Bearcats, who will take on No. 10 OLSH in the quarterfinals Saturday.

Carlynton 2, Eden Christian 1 (OT) – Gigi Choate scored the overtime winner to send No. 9 Carlynton (11-7-1) past No. 8 Eden Christian (8-9) in the Class A first round. Riley Mauro also scored for the Cougars, who will meet No. 1 Sewickley Academy in the quarterfinals Saturday.

Central Valley 7, Keystone Oaks 0 – Nina Guandolo collected two goals and three assists and Reagan Patten and Gia Guandolo also scored twice for No. 6 Central Valley (13-31) in a Class 2A first-round win over No. 11 Keystone Oaks (8-10). Aubrey Grater had a goal and an assist for the Warriors, who will meet No. 3 Quaker Valley in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

Freeport 11, Ringgold 0 – Camryn Woods recorded a hat trick while Nia DiSanti and Brinley Sullivan scored a pair of goals apiece to lead No. 2 Freeport (16-1) to a win over No. 15 Ringgold (6-10-1) in the first round of the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs. Cece Schlegel, Elena Jenkins, Ella McConville and Marcy Mattivi each added a goal and Alyssa Alcorn and Sophia Crawford combined on the shutout for the Yellowjackets. Freeport will play No. 7 North Catholic in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

North Catholic 2, Beaver 1 – Simone Sharpless had a goal and an assist and Reagan Young also scored to power No. 7 North Catholic (13-5) past No. 10 Beaver (9-8-1) in the Class 2A first round. North Catholic will take on No. 2 Freeport in the quarterfinals Saturday.

OLSH 1, Aquinas Academy 0 – No. 10 OLSH (8-6-1) got past No. 7 Aquinas Academy (9-7) in the Class A first round. The Chargers will face No. 11 Waynesburg in the quarterfinals Saturday.

Quaker Valley 11, Southmoreland 0 – Lily Baker scored five goals while Ari Bosh and Mia Duckstein each added a brace to power No. 3 Quaker Valley (14-2-1) to a first-round shutout win of No. 14 Southmoreland (7-10-1) in the Class 2A playoffs. Rowan Wallace and Ivy Armbrust each added a goal while Ava Hajok kept a clean sheet for the Quakers, who will play No. 6 Central Valley in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

Riverside 2, Riverview 1 (SO) – Emma Stockton converted her attempt in the first sudden death round as No. 5 Riverside (9-3-1) got past No. 12 Riverview (7-6-1) in a penalty kick shootout, 5-4, in the Class A first round. Isabel Chaparro scored in regulation for the Raiders.

Seton LaSalle 4, Brownsville 0 – Kennedy Bakota scored a hat trick and Maurah Hoyt kept a clean sheet as No. 3 Seton LaSalle (14-4) shut out No. 14 Brownsville (12-5-2) in the first round of the WPIAL Class A playoffs. The Rebels advance to face No. 11 Waynesburg in the quarterfinals Saturday.

Sewickley Academy 7, Ellis School 0 – Emma Eannarino scored four goals and Claire Karsman added a pair as top-seeded Sewickley Academy (16-1) blanked No. 16 Ellis School (5-8) in the Class A first round. The Panthers will meet No. 9 Carlynton in the quarterfinals Thursday.

Shady Side Academy 1, Deer Lakes 0 – Virginia Power scored midway through the second half as No. 12 Shady Side Academy (8-9) knocked off No. 5 Deer Lakes (15-3) in the Class 2A first round. The Bulldogs will meet No. 4 Mt. Pleasant in the quarterfinals Saturday.

South Park 3, Yough 0 – Reese Recker scored the game’s first goal and Ella Voyten added two more to lead top-seeded South Park (19-0) past No. 16 Yough (8-10) in the Class 2A first round. The Eagles will meet No. 8 Burrell in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

Waynesburg 1, Winchester Thurston 0 – Ella Kincer scored the game-winning goal in the second half with an assist from Ava DiAlessandro and Peyton Cowell made 17 saves to earn the shutout in goal as No. 11 Waynesburg (10-4-2) upset No. 6 Winchester Thurston (10-7-1) in a Class A first-round matchup. The Raiders advance to the quarterfinals Saturday to take on No. 3 Seton LaSalle.

Girls volleyball

Beaver 3, Ringgold 0 – Kailyn Connelly had 13 kills, Jaedyn Brown added nine kills, Aubrey Bumblis had 15 digs and Kayden Blinn produced 35 assists to lead No. 2 Beaver (16-1) to a Class 3A first-round win against No. 15 Ringgold (11-5). The Bobcats will take on No.7 Chartiers Valley in the quarterfinals Thursday.

Greensburg Salem 3, Trinity 1 – Patty Redinger and Alle Scarpa each had seven kills and Maria Dinkel recorded 20 digs to lead No. 6 Greensburg Salem (16-1) to a Class 3A first-round win. Bri Stolitca had 31 kills and Grace Cessna dished out 40 assists for No. 11 Trinity (8-6). The Golden Lions will meet No. 3 Mars in the quarterfinals Thursday.

Mars 3, Belle Vernon 1 – Cecilia Christy had 15 kills, Rylee Wooldridge added 14 and Kate Southwell finished with 11 as No. 3 Mars (14-4) defeated No. 14 Belle Vernon (13-5) in the Class 3A first round. Gabi Weidemann handed out 37 assists for the Fightin’ Planets, who will face No. 6 Greensburg Salem in the quarterfinals Thursday.

Mohawk 3, Southmoreland 0 – No. 5 seed Mohawk (15-3) took care of No. 12 Southmoreland (12-6) with a three-set sweep in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs. Sara Hampson had 12 digs, Tess Greene had 10 digs and Marli McBride had nine kills and eight digs for the Warriors. The win is the first playoff victory for the Mohawk volleyball program. The Warriors will oppose No. 4 OLSH in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

Neshannock 3, South Park 1 – Marika Measel had 12 kills and 14 digs, Kate Pauline had 21 digs and Rian Owens dished out 30 assists to lead No. 10 Neshannock (11-3) to an opening-round win over No. 7 South Park (14-4) in the Class 2A playoffs. Ava Skodak had 14 digs and Lexi Aeschbacher added 10 digs for the Lancers, who will play No. 2 Waynesburg in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

Hockey

Armstrong 2, Cathedral Prep 1 (OT) – Jason Rullo scored the overtime winner, Hudson Bundy also had a goal and Cole Ruffaner made 26 saves to lead Armstrong (4-0) to a Class 2A win. Vinny Scalise scored for Cathedral Prep (1-1-1).

Bishop McCort 5, Baldwin 2 – Zakhar Bryndin had three goals and two assists to power Bishop McCort (2-1) to a Class 2A win. Ian Leuch and Austin Klein scored for Baldwin (1-3).

Canon-McMillan 6, Freeport 2 – Elliot Moser had a goal and two assists and Brayden Edgar and Jacob Berry each finished with a goal and an assist to help Canon-McMillan (2-0) to a Class A win. Max Smith and Bantam Semenko scored for Freeport (2-2).

Hampton 5, Richland 3 – Scott Cameron scored a hat trick and Dillon Fogle and Elijah Schwarzbach each added a goal as Hampton (1-1) defeated Richland (0-0-1) in Class A. Mitch Timcik, Wesley Dunlap and Michael Reing scored for the Rams.

Peters Township 3, Thomas Jefferson 0 – Blake Evancic, Chay Lamagna and Jack Kubistek each scored a goal and Jordan Cox stopped 22 shots as Peters (3-0) shut out Thomas Jefferson (2-2) in Class 3A.
