High school roundup for Oct. 22, 2025: West Allegheny knocks off top-seeded Hampton

Colton Yonker and Anthony Mimna scored to lead No. 8 West Allegheny (12-6) to a WPIAL Class 3A boys soccer quarterfinal upset of top-seeded Hampton (15-3-2) on Wednesday.
Harrison Murray and Michael Johnson recorded assists for West A (12-6), which will meet No. 5 Thomas Jefferson in the semifinals.
Allderdice 2, Obama Academy 1 (OT) – Jonathan Ruff scored the overtime winner, assisted by Luca Fuerte, as Allderdice (14-5) defeated Obama Academy (13-6) in the City League championship game. Michael Bishop also scored for the Dragons. Luke Peña had an assist.
Beaver County Christian 3, Neshannock 0 – Zach Stephens scored two goals and Liam Birchler added one to lead No. 4 Beaver County Christian (16-2) past No. 12 Neshannock (14-5-1) in a Class A quarterfinal. The Eagles will face No. 1 Bentworth in the semifinals.
Bethel Park 2, No. 7 Mars 0 – Youssef Benrabia and Xavier Jackson scored and Luke Rubican preserved the shutout as No. 2 Bethel Park (14-2-3) blanked No. 7 Mars (12-6-2) in the Class 3A quarterfinals. The Black Hawks will meet No. 3 Franklin Regional in the semifinals.
Bentworth 6, Eden Christian 0 – Ryan Moessner had a hat trick and Austin Hollier, Adam Moessner and Garret Allen added a goal apiece to lead No. 1 Bentworth (19-0) in a Class A quarterfinal win over No. 9 Eden Christian (9-10). The Bearcats will meet No. 4 Beaver County Christian in the semifinals.
OLSH 4, Sewickley Academy 1 – Hunter Smith scored two goals and Brady Hernandez and Grant Griesacker added a goal apiece to lead No. 2 OLSH (17-0) to a Class A quarterfinal win over No. 7 Sewickley Academy (12-5). The Chargers will face No. 3 Winchester Thurston in the semifinals.
Thomas Jefferson 1, Moon 0 – Owen Householder scored the winning goal, assisted by Gavin Kern, and Sam Wessel recorded the shutout as No. 5 Thomas Jefferson (17-2-1) beat No. 4 Moon (13-6-1) in the Class 3A quarterfinals. The Jaguars will take on No. 8 West Allegheny in the semifinals.
Winchester Thurston 5, Aquinas Academy 0 – The third-seeded Bears (13-4-1) blanked No. 6 Aquinas Academy (13-6) in the Class A quarterfinals and will meet No. 2 OLSH in the semifinals.
Girls volleyball
Canon-McMillan 3, Hempfield 1 – Natalie Carr had 31 kills and 25 digs and Journee Scott followed with 20 kills to lead No. 10 Canon-McMillan (10-6) past No. 7 Hempfield (11-4) in the Class 4A first round. Aurora Shirdon added 15 digs and Amanda Ciolli had 14 digs and Carsen Brown dished out 30 assists and Katie Wing added 16 assists for the Big Macs, who will face No. 2 Peters Township in the quarterfinals Saturday.
Frazier 3, Union 2 – Addison Schultz had 20 kills and five blocks as top-seeded Frazier (12-2) survived a scare from No. 16 Union (6-11). Maddie Salisbury also had 20 kills, Allie Monack handed out 28 assists and Addison Hiles finished with 23 digs for the Commodores, who will meet No. 9 Carmichaels in the quarterfinals Saturday.
St. Joseph 3, West Greene 0 – Kate Giannetta had 13 kills and 21 digs as fifth-seeded St. Joseph (11-4) swept No. 12 West Greene (5-7) in the Class A first round. Kenzie Jones had eight kills and 20 digs, Jillian Bloch added 23 digs and Emma Yingling finished with six kills and three aces for the Spartans, who will take on Eden Christian in the quarterfinals Saturday.
In other Class A quarterfinals, No. 9 Carmichaels battled past No. 8 Rochester, 3-2, No. 4 Eden Christian topped No. 13 Springdale, 3-0, No. 2 Beth-Center defeated No. 15 Western Beaver, 3-0, No. 7 California swept No. 10 Beaver County Christian, 3-0, No. 3 Fort Cherry beat No. 14 Trinity Christian, 3-0, and No. 6 Serra Catholic handled No. 11 Apollo-Ridge, 3-0.
Upper St. Clair 3, Fox Chapel 0 – Hayden Culp led with 10 kills and four aces and Ellie Simons added eight kills and four aces for No. 3 Upper St. Clair (13-2) in a Class 4A first-round win over No. 14 Fox Chapel (5-7). The Panthers will meet No. 6 North Catholic in Saturday’s quarterfinals.
In other Class 4A first-round matches, No. 8 Shaler defeated No. 9 Penn-Trafford, 3-1, No. 4 Seneca Valley swept No. 13 Armstrong, 3-0, No. 5 Pine-Richland defeated No. 12 Latrobe, 3-0, and No. 6 North Catholic got past No. 11 Kiski Area, 3-1.
Field hockey
Class 3A – Alexa Pealer scored the overtime winner to lead No. 3 North Allegheny (5-7-3) to a semifinal win over No. 2 Mt. Lebanon (7-4-1). The Tigers will face six-time defending champ Pine-Richland (16-3), an 11-0 winner over No. 4 Norwin (3-10), in the finals at 7 p.m. Tuesday at North Allegheny.
Class 2A – Fox Chapel will meet Peters Township for the WPIAL title for the second straight year. The No. 2 Foxes (12-3-3) were 2-0 winners over No. 3 Latrobe (3-9-3) in the semifinals while the top-seeded defending champs from Peters Township (13-2-2) earned a 1-0 win over No. 4 Upper St. Clair (3-8-3). The championship game is set for 8 p.m. Oct. 29 at North Allegheny.
