High school roundup for Oct. 27, 2025: North Allegheny knocks out defending champs in 4A girls soccer

Averie Bierker scored the winning goal with 11:40 left, ringing a shot from the right wing in off the crossbar, to send No. 5 North Allegheny to a 1-0 victory over top-seeded Peters Township (15-3-2), the defending champs, in the WPIAL Class 4A girls soccer semifinals Monday night.

Jordan Beemer recorded the shutout for the Tigers (16-3-2), who will face No. 2 Seneca Valley in the finals.

South Fayette 4, Moon 1 – Quinn Miller, Gabby Beinecke, Silvi Rossi and Mia Deramo scored to power No. 2 South Fayette (18-1-1) past No. 3 Moon (18-2) in the Class 3A semifinals. The Lions will take on No. 1 Fox Chapel in the finals. Emma Marquis scored for the Tigers.

Boys soccer

Beaver 8, Avonworth 2 – Shane Ebbitt had three goals and three assists as ninth-seeded Beaver (16-4) continued its unexpected run through the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs. Seth Kullen scored twice and Anthony Furda, Luke Conner and Zachary Orend each added a goal for the Bobcats, who will meet No. 6 Deer Lakes in the finals. Calder Mahan scored both goals for No. 4 Avonworth (17-3-1).

Bentworth 2, Beaver County Christian 0 – Ryan Moessner and Blake Lusk scored second-half goals as top-seeded Bentworth (20-0) kept alive its bid for a WPIAL three-peat with with a victory over No. 4 Beaver County Christian (16-3) in the Class A semifinals. Austin Hollier and Adam Moessner had assists for the Bearcats, who will meet No. 2 OLSH in the finals.

OLSH 1, Winchester Thurston 0 – Isaac Tarbuk scored a second-half goal to power second-seeded OLSH (18-0) past No. 3 Winchester Thurston (13-5-1) in the Class A semifinals. Patrick Altmar recorded the shutout for the Chargers, who will face No. 1 Bentworth in a battle of undefeated teams in the championship game.

Hockey

Butler 4, West Allegheny 1 – Anthony Tromblatt and Jase Renwick each had a goal and an assist and Seamus Griffith and Logan Brown also scored for Butler (2-1) in a Class A win. Aldo Betta scored for West Allegheny (3-3).

Knoch 6, Carrick 2 – Brady Linamen had a hat trick and an assist, Synjun McHattie added a goal and four assists and Cam Christie scored twice to send Knoch (4-3) to a Division 2 victory. Ethan Semenov scored twice for Carrick (0-4).

McDowell 6, Sewickley Academy 1 – Dylan Payne had a hat trick and added an assist and Cooper Moffett had a goal and two assists to lead McDowell (2-1) to a Division 2 win. Jacob Stanislaw scored for Sewickley Academy (1-4).

Montour 5, North Catholic 4 – Trey Varga had three goals and an assist and Talon Bruce Miller and Dylan Hogue also scored for Montour (1-3-1) in a Class A victory. Samuel Langer and Shane Schollaert had a goal and an assist apiece for North Catholic (2-2).

Neshannock 4, Burrell 3 – Grant Hennon finished with a goal and two assists, Christopher Johns and Marko Relic each had a goal and an assist and Shane Johns also scored for Neshannock (5-0) in a Division 2 win. Forrest Baird scored twice and Ryan Burkett added a goal for Burrell (3-2-1).

Penn-Trafford 6, Armstrong 4 – Brock Bienemann scored a hat trick and added an assist as Penn-Trafford (3-1) handed Armstrong (4-1) its first loss in Class 2A. Liam Lehneke had two goals and an assist and Ben Zierski added a goal and an assist for Penn-Trafford. Hudson Bundy scored twice, Jonas Miller had a goal and an assist and Evan Heiman added a goal for Armstrong.

Trinity 6, Wilmington 4 – Seamus Coyle had two goals and an assist and Cale Bitz and Brody Woods each added a goal and an assist as Trinity (1-3) won in Division 2. Finn McGreal scored twice for Wilmington (0-2).
