North Allegheny’s eight-year reign as the top Class 4A girls volleyball team in Pennsylvania came to an end in the WPIAL semifinals Wednesday night.

Fifth-seeded Pine-Richland, which had lost to North Allegheny in four games twice in the regular season, pulled off a sweep of the top-seeded Tigers, 27-25, 25-17, 25-20.

Because the WPIAL receives only two bids to the Class 4A state tournament, North Allegheny (12-3), which also won the last two WPIAL titles, will not advance.

The Rams (13-5) will meet second-seeded Peters Township in the finals Saturday at Peters Township at a time to be determined.

Peters Township (12-2) earned its spot in the finals with a sweep of No. 6 North Catholic (10-5) with scores of 25-21, 25-23 and 25-20.

Class A – The top seed in Class A was also ousted when No. 4 Eden Christian (12-3) defeated No. 1 Frazier (13-3) in four games, 25-14, 25-17, 21-25, 25-23.

Maddie Salisbury led the Commodores with 17 kills and 12 service points. Addison Schultz had 14 kills and four blocks.

The Warriors will meet No. 6 Serra Catholic (14-5) in the finals Saturday. The Eagles got past No. 7 California (14-5) in five games, 25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 21-25 and 15-8.

Girls soccer

Moon 2, Plum 1 – Kendall Dydek scored two goals, including the game-winner midway through the second half, as No. 3 Moon defeated No. 4 Plum in the Class 3A third-place match, claiming the WPIAL’s final spot in the PIAA Class 3A field. Bella Taylor and Anna Palm dished out assists for the Tigers (19-2). Emily Grubich scored for the Mustangs (17-3).

Boys soccer

Third-place matches – Quaker Valley and Winchester Thurston punched their tickets to the PIAA tournament with consolation victories.

The No. 2 Quakers (18-3-1) earned a 2-1 win over No. 4 Avonworth (17-4-1) in overtime in Class 2A. The No. 3 Bears (14-5-1) picked up a 2-1 shootout win over No. 4 Beaver County Christian (16-4) in Class A.
