High school roundup for Oct. 4, 2025: South Allegheny’s Cook brothers roast Shady Side Academy

The Cook brothers turned up the heat Saturday afternoon, leading South Allegheny to a 62-21 victory over Shady Side Academy in the Class 2A Allegheny Conference.

Sophomore quarterback Alijah Cook threw five touchdown passes, including three to his brother Drew, who also returned an interception 40 yards for a score for the Gladiators (7-0, 4-0).

The Cooks connected on TD passes of 20, 34 and 30 yards, all in the first half. Austin Schane had a rushing touchdown and a receiving score, and Kymair Brown also caught a TD pass from Alijah Cook.

Hykeem Harrell ran for a score and Joe Gamret returned a blocked punt 35 yards for another touchdown.

Cam Mallory and Cole Little had rushing touchdowns and Nico Grzymkowski caught a tipped touchdown pass from Sam Kamin for the Bulldogs (3-3, 1-3).

Carrick 46, Brownsville 12 – Jayden Wise ran for three touchdowns and Kejuan Johnson caught three touchdown passes from Trey Beasley, leading Carrick (2-4) to a nonsection victory. Max Dieudonne scored on a 71-yard kick return and Sy Patterson caught a 40-yard TD pass for Brownsville (0-5).

Kiski School 20, Wyoming Seminary 0 – Levi Porter and Max McMillan combined for 155 rushing yards, with Porter scoring on a 48-yard TD run and McMillan scoring on runs from 1 and 2 yards, to lead Kiski School (4-2) past Wyoming Seminary (1-4). It was the third straight road win and second shutout of the season for Kiski School.

Boys soccer

Allderdice 8, Altoona 2 – Ethan Voight-Cherna had a hat trick and Luca Fuerte collected ttwo goals and an assist to lead Allderdice (11-4) to a nonsection win. Takumi Henderson, Huxley Lackner and Kana Mupeta also scored for the Dragons. Elliott Voight-Cherna and Santiago Carrillo each had two assists.

Avonworth 10, Ellwood City 0 – Nate Kline and Hudson Boyd each scored twice, Ethan Radkowski and Gus Zimmerman had a goal and an assist apiece and Avonworth (13-1-1, 11-1-1) blanked Ellwood City (0-14, 0-12) in Section 2-2A. James Meese, Alex Hayes, Owen Kline and Jack Anderson also scored and Jimmy Quinn had three assists.

Bentworth 7, Highlands 2 Adam Moessner tallied four goals and one assist to lead Bentworth (14-0) to the nonsection win at Highlands (6-6-1). Ryan Moessner added two goals and one assist while Blake Lusk recorded one goal and one assist.

Hampton 9, Armstrong 1 Mason Hall scored four goals to lead Hampton (10-2-2, 7-0-2) to the Section 1-3A win over Armstrong (2-11, 1-8). Matteo Sciulli added two goals and one assist, Carson Colvin had one goal and one assist and Wyatt Bonfili recorded three assists.

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 3, Moon 0 – In nonsection play, Brady Hernandez scored two second-half goals and Patrick Alltmar recorded his seventh shutout of the season as OLSH (12-0) defeated Moon (10-3). The loss snapped Moon’s seven-game winning streak.

Plum 5 Penn-Trafford 0 – Joaquin Santiago and Caden Zoller scored two goals each as Plum (13-2-1) blanked Penn-Trafford (8-6) in a nonsection match. Hudson Strasser also scored, Christian Alter dished out three assists, Austin Kolankowski had two assists and Chase Eber and Jack Majcher combined on the shutout.

Shady Side Academy 8, Chartiers-Houston 1 Mark Bence and Zach Powers scored two goals each as Shady Side Academy (8-4-1) defeated Chartiers-Houston (7-7) in a nonsection game.

Shaler 4, Baldwin 2 Tazanie Hinds had two goals and Anthony Tylenda and Tyler Shaw added one each as Shaler (11-3) won its seventh straight game by defeating Baldwin (2-12) in nonsection play.

Springdale 1, Aquinas Academy 0 Aidan Nevel-Brown scored the game’s only goal and Brennan Mattie kept a clean sheet as Springdale (10-3) shut out Aquinas Academy (9-4) in nonsection play.

West Allegheny 2, Montour 0 In Section 4-3A, Josh Bohley and Anthony Mimma scored for West Allegheny (7-5, 6-3) in its win over Montour (8-7, 6-4).

Girls soccer

Peters Township 6, Baldwin 1 Marina Hajnosz and Brynn Busch each scored two goals as Peters Township (10-1-2, 8-0) defeated Baldwin (3-9-1, 1-7) in Section 2-4A.

Winchester Thurston 3, Riverview 1 Matilda Yang, Iris Jarrin and Avi Keller scored goals for Winchester Thurston (8-5-1, 5-2-1) in its Section 4-A win against Riverview (7-2, 6-2).

Cross country

Bald Eagle Invitational – A pair of Mt. Lebanon runners picked up first-place finishes at White Oak Park, with Evan Yurasko (15:46.66) winning the boys race and Tamsin Holliday (18:58.71) pacing the girls field. The Blue Devils topped the girls team standings and finished second to Allderdice in the boys team race.

Dravin Everley (16:04.48) won the Class 2A boys race to lead Ringgold to a first-place team finish. In Class 2A girls, Kayla Baker won (19:47.38) to help Indiana to first place.
