High school roundup for Oct. 5, 2024: Eric Doerue runs for 3 TDs in South Park win over OLSH

Eric Doerue rushed for 188 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 3 South Park to a 41-13 victory over Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Class 2A Allegheny Conference football Saturday.
Robert Lenzi added 83 rushing yards and a touchdown for South Park (6-1, 3-0), which gained all 416 yards of its offense on the ground. Vann Kavals threw for 98 yards and ran for a touchdown for OLSH (3-3, 2-2).
Ellwood City 26, Western Beaver 20 – Chris Smiley and Elijah Palmer-McCane ran for two touchdowns each as No. 2 Ellwood City (6-0, 4-0) held on to beat Western Beaver (4-2, 3-1) to claim sole possession of first place in the Class 2A Midwestern Athletic Conference. Javin Peel threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns for Western Beaver, which trailed 20-6 heading into the fourth quarter.
Laurel 47, Summit Academy 16 – Jack Miles caught three passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns and also scored on a 73-yard interception return to lead Laurel (3-4, 3-0) to a Class A Big Seven Conference win. Luca Santini was 6 for 9 passing for 133 yards and three scores and Jackson Saunders ran for two touchdowns for the Spartans. Demonte Smith-Wiggins and Yimeir McCormick had touchdown runs for Summit Academy (1-5, 0-3).
Neshannock 35, Burgettstown 0 – Jino Mozzocio went 12 for 17 passing for 144 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for a score to lead Neshannock (6-1) to a nonconference win over Burgettstown (1-5). Mozzocio hit Ashton Allison from 11 yards out, Dom Cubellis from 23 yards and Geoffrey Measel from 37 yards. Anthony Eakin scored on a 30-yard interception return and Nick Bender was 5 for 5 on extra points.
Boys soccer
Allderdice 7, Belle Vernon 0 – Luca Fuerte had a goal and an assist as Allderdice (8-3-1) downed Belle Vernon (6-6) in a nonsection match. Ethan Voight-Cherna recorded three assists for Allderdice.
Avonworth 13, Ellwood City 0 – Calder Mahan, Abdoulaye Barry and Sanoussy Barry had two goals apiece, Maksim Milojevic added a goal and two assists and Eli Silvey doled out three assists to lead Avonworth (11-2-2, 11-1-1) past Ellwood City (0-13, 0-12) in Section 2-2A.
Elizabeth Forward 3, East Allegheny 0 – Bo Hallas scored twice as Elizabeth Forward (10-3-1, 9-1-1) shut out East Allegheny (3-10, 1-10) in Section 3-2A play.
Mt. Lebanon 2, Bethel Park 1 – Jack O’Brien’s second goal was the game winner in the second half to lead Mt. Lebanon (8-7) to a nonsection win. Xavier Jackson scored for Bethel Park (9-4).
North Catholic 7, Freeport 0 – Jack Spirinak scored twice and Gabe Nonino had a goal and an assist to help North Catholic (11-3, 9-2) past Freeport (6-6-2, 3-5-2) in a Section 1-2A match.
OLSH 3, Sewickley Academy 0 – Isaac Tarbuk, Chad Minton and Seth Therrien scored to lead OLSH (11-1) to a nonsection win over Sewickley Academy (7-7-1).
Penn-Trafford 12, Yough 0 – JJ Porter scored a hat trick to power Penn-Trafford (6-5-1) past Yough (4-8-2) in a nonsection match.
Riverview 8, Valley 1 – Kyle Schuetz and Devin Murphy had three goals and one assist each as Riverview (7-6, 4-5) defeated Valley (1-11, 1-8) in nonsection play.
Trinity 4, Albert Gallatin 0 – Brady Anderson recorded a first-half hat trick and Ryan Torboli picked up the shutout as Trinity (8-4-2, 8-2-1) defeated Albert Gallatin (1-11, 1-10) in Section 2-3A. Torboli, who also scored on a second-half penalty kick, became the third all-time leader in shutouts for Trinity.
Upper St. Clair 3, West Allegheny 1 – Ben Murtough scored twice and Liam Burlovic added a goal to lift Upper St. Clair (9-3-2) past West Allegheny (7-6) in a nonsection match. Harrison Murray scored for West A.
Girls soccer
Ambridge 4, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart 3 – Megan Conover completed her hat trick in overtime to lead Ambridge past OLSH in a nonsection game. Megan Conover added an assist on Mikalah Wetzel’s goal while Abby Smith contributed two assists.
Freeport 4 , North Catholic 2 – Elena Jenkins, Ella McConville, Sam Liput and CeCe Schlegel scored to lead Freeport (9-1-1, 6-1-1) to a Section 2-2A win over North Catholic (10-2, 5-2). Peyton Los had two assists for the Yellowjackets.
Mohawk 3, Hopewell 0 – Ellie Whippo scored three goals to lead Mohawk (5-6) to the nonsection win against Hopewell (1-9-2). Kassie McConnell recorded her second shutout of the season.
Mt. Lebanon 1, Bethel Park 0 – Lucy Pryor scored the winning goal, assisted by Genevieve Palumbo, to lift Mt. Lebanon (8-4-1) to a nonsection win over Bethel Park (6-5-3).
Pine-Richland 2, Avonworth 1 – Molly Baker and Lily Rosenwasser scored to lead Pine-Richland (8-5) to a nonsection win over Avonworth (6-9-1).
Plum 1, Norwin 0 – Olivia Bigger scored the winning goal, assisted by Mia Nardo, and Makenna Anderson and Malayna Smith combined on the shutout for Plum (11-1) in a nonsection win over Norwin (8-7-1).
Shaler 3, Baldwin 2 – Gabby Alcalde scored twice and Naudia Zotter added a goal and an assist for Shaler (7-5-1) in a nonsection win over Baldwin (6-9).
Springdale 2, Winchester Thurston 0 – Genevieve Conklin and Hailey Marchlewski had goals as Springdale (11-1, 10-0) shut out Winchester Thurston (6-5, 5-3) in Section 4-A play.
Cross country
Bald Eagle Invitational – Norwin’s boys and girls swept the Class 3A team titles at White Oak Park. The Knights’ Luke Simpson won the boys race (16:03.33) and Thomas Gaydos (second, Enzo Jiancristoforo (fourth), Benjamin McBride (fifth) and William Little (sixth) finished in the top six. Addison Farrah (second), Jillian Ryba (third), Emily Dansak (fifth), Anna Dansak (sixth) and Kaelyn Lazar (seventh) were the top finishers for the Norwin girls.
Woodland Hills’ Annabel Johnson won the Class 3A girls race (18:13.82).
Michael Braun (15:38.34) won the Class 2A boys race to lead Freeport to the team title. David Kristine (fifth), Ben Brestensky (seventh) and Calvin Lindsay (eighth) also finished in the top 10 for the Yelowjackets.
Winchester Thurston swept the Class A team titles. Jack Iyer finished third to lead the boys and Abigail Weinstein was third to lead the girls. Mercyhurst Prep’s Kam Skelton (16:25.68) and Forest Hills’ Bella Ascherl (18:50.93) were the individual winners.
Southmoreland’s Lexi Ohler (19:48.36) won the Class 2A girls race. Led by Allison Foster (fourth) and Anabell Evancho (fifth), Oakland Catholic won the team title.
Grove City Invitational – Kevyn Fish won the girls race in a time of 19:21 to lead Hampton to the team title. Claire McKinney was seventh and Abby Hall was 10th for the Talbots. Seneca Valley’s Paige Damico (third), Sydney Heltzell (fifth) and Hannah Jones (ninth) finished in the top 10 to lead the Raiders to a third-place finish.
In the boys race, Hampton’s Christopher Belch finished second and Knoch’s Carter French was fourth. Seneca Valley took second in the team race, led by Max Smith (fifth). Led by boys champ Isaiah Stauff (15:45), host Grove City won the team title.
