High school roundup for Oct. 7, 2025: Quaker Valley boys take control of section race

Tanner Schultz converted a penalty kick and Liam Miller also scored to lead Quaker Valley to a 2-0 victory over Hopewell (6-8, 6-7) in Section 2-2A boys soccer Tuesday.
Coupled with Central Valley’s 2-1 overtime win over Avonworth (14-2-1, 12-2-1), the result put the Quakers (13-2-1, 12-1-1) in the driver’s seat to claim the section title.
Allderdice 2, Franklin Regional 1 – Ethan Voight-Cherna scored both goals and Luca Fuerte dished out two assists to lead Allderdice (12-4) to a Section 3-3A exhibition win. Michael Hillebrand scored for Franklin Regional (12-3).
Beaver County Christian 2, Eden Christian 0 – Ben Crefeld and Zach Stephens scored, Josiah Bosch had a pair of assists and Mike Lanigan made five saves to earn the shutout for Beaver County Christian (13-1, 8-1) in a Section 4-2A win over Eden Christian (7-7, 5-4).
Bentworth 10, Beth-Center 0 – Ryan Moessner and Billy Moyer each recorded a hat trick, Blake Lusk scored twice and Adam Moessner and Jude Laskey each tacked on a goal as Bentworth (15-0, 8-0) won the Section 2-A title with an undefeated record with a victory over Beth-Center (8-6, 4-2). Isaac Vipperman earned the shutout for the Bearcats.
Bethel Park 1, Trinity 1 (OT) – Xavier Jackson scored for Bethel Park (10-1-3, 10-0-2) and Jacob Wright scored for Trinity (9-4-1, 9-2-1) in a Section 2-3A draw.
Chartiers Valley 1, West Allegheny 0 – Jonah Mastren-Williams scored a second-half goal and Sean Walsh earned the shutout to make it stand up as Chartiers Valley (9-4, 8-2) defeated West Allegheny (7-6, 6-4) in Section 4-3A.
Deer Lakes 19, Valley 2 – Five players scored at least two goals, led by Artemey Parshyn’s hat trick, as Deer Lakes handled Valley in Section 1-2A. Colton Bish, Cuyler Crim, Collin Rodgers and Keegan Landsberg all had two goals for the Lancers. Peyton Kushon, Jacob Orseno, Zane Spence, Connor Moore, Ryan Liggett, Nolan Adams and Andrew O’Brien each had one.
Elizabeth Forward 6, Steel Valley 1 – Luca Valerio scored a hat trick and had an assist while Aidan Davis added a brace and an assist to lead Elizabeth Forward (10-5, 9-3) to a Section 3-2A win over Steel Valley (4-10, 3-9). Bo Hallas tallied a goal for the Warriors.
Hampton 4, Shaler 0 – Mason Hall buried a pair of goals while Xavier Ware and Wyatt Bonfili each added a goal to lead Hampton (11-2-2, 8-0-2) to a Section 1-3A win over Shaler (11-4, 8-3). Gavin Guinn kept a clean sheet for the Talbots.
Highlands 1, Freeport 0 – Jerid Kaminski scored the winning goal, assisted by Cainen McCann, and Liam Roberts made 11 saves to earn the shutout for Highlands (7-6-1, 6-5-1) in a Section 1-2A win over Freeport (9-6-1, 5-6-1).
Indiana 3, Kiski Area 0 – Jonas Vick, Micah Weigner and Grayson Brunetto scored to lead Indiana (6-8-1, 3-6-1) past Kiski Area (2-13, 2-9) in Section 1-3A.
Jeannette 3, Riverview 0 – Dom Semplice buried a pair of goals and Tyler Kristoff added another as Jeannette (5-9, 2-7) kept its playoff hopes alive with a shutout win over Riverview (5-8-1) in Section 1-4A.
Laurel Highlands 8, McKeepsport 0 – Cole Radcliffe scored a hat trick and broke the Laurel Highlands (9-6, 5-6) record for goals in a season to lead the Mustangs to a Section 2-3A win over McKeesport (2-13, 1-11). Jack Narin also had a hat trick and Chase Hall scored twice for Laurel Highlands.
Mars 9, Armstrong 1 – Max Davis had a hat trick to lead Mars (9-5-2, 7-1-2) past Armstrong (2-12, 1-9) in Section 1-3A.
Montour 1, Moon 0 (OT) – Mario Passaron scored the golden goal with 39 seconds left in overtime to lift Montour (9-7, 7-4) past Moon (10-5, 9-1) in Section 4-3A. Dom Passaro had the assist.
Mt. Lebanon 7, Woodland Hills 0 – Ignati Darakos and Michael Payner scored two goals each and Benton Thompson had a goal and two assists as Mt. Lebanon (10-4-2, 5-3-1) clinched a playoff spot with a Section 2-4A win over Woodland Hills (5-6, 4-5). DJ McKay and Grayson Stuart also scored for the Blue Devils.
Mt. Pleasant 4, Waynesburg 0 – Tyke Snyder scored twice while Gavin Rummel and Bryson Bankosh each added a goal as Mt. Pleasant (12-4, 11-1) shut out Waynesburg (4-8-1, 4-7-1) in Section 4-2A. Grayson Gardner kept a clean sheet for the Vikings.
North Catholic 10, Burrell 0 – Justin Garvey and Gabe Nonino each scored twice and Matthew Liscinsky and Arthur Mendonca each collected a goal and two assists to lead North Catholic (13-1-1, 11-1) past Burrell (4-12, 4-8) in Section 1-2A. Angelo Amelio, Chris Ramaley, Kelden Hufnagel and Jack Spirnak also scored.
Norwin 4, Penn Hills 0 – Joey Walton, Ian Natale, Braden Thorsen and Connor Gurekovich scored and Reed Hoyle recorded the shutout as Norwin (8-5-2, 7-1-1) defeated Penn Hills (3-11-1, 1-8) in Section 1-4A.
OLSH 10, Carlynton 1 – Aaron Callahan and Wyatt Walsh had two goals apiece and six other players also scored to lead OLSH (13-0, 9-0) past Carlynton (1-11-2, 1-7-1) in Section 3-A. Other goal scorers were Owen Minzer, Brady Hernandez, Peter Zink, Hunter Smith, Chad Minton and Dylan Luchinni.
Penn-Trafford 4, Uniontown 1 – Noah Haslam had two goals and an assist and Cooper Geyer and Caydon Payne also scored to lead Penn-Trafford (9-6, 6-3) past Uniontown (5-11, 1-7) in Section 3-3A.
Peters Township 1, Upper St. Clair 0 – Jake Gawenus scored the lone goal and Jack Stewart kept a clean sheet as Peters Township (11-0-1, 8-0-1) blanked Upper St. Clair (3-10, 3-6) in Section 2-4A.
Plum 3, Hempfield 0 – Austin Kolankowski had a goal and an assist, Kent Holmes and Caden Zoller also scored and Chase Eber and Jack Majcher combined on the shutout as Plum (14-2-1, 8-0-1) defeated Hempfield (4-10, 2-7) in Section 1-4A.
Ringgold 2, Thomas Jefferson 1 – Izaiah Wilson and James Lytle scored to power Ringgold (8-6, 7-5) to a Section 2-3A win over Thomas Jefferson (12-2-1, 9-2-1).
Seneca Valley 1, North Allegheny 0 – Owen Eastgate scored the winning goal, assisted by Jacob Prex, and Chase Good preserved the shutout to lead Seneca Valley (12-2, 7-2) past North Allegheny (9-4-2, 5-3-1) in a battle of playoff teams in Section 3-4A.
Serra Catholic 2, Brentwood 1 – Tyler Graham scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Ryan O’Donnell with less than two minutes left in the game, leading Serra Catholic (5-9, 3-6) past Brentwood (6-7-1, 3-5-1) in Section 3-A. Nate Petty also scored for the Eagles.
Shady Side Academy 11, Leechburg 0 – Manek Gerhardy scored a hat trick and Beau Brush, Zach Powers and Perkin Showalter added two goals each as Shady Side Academy (9-4-1, 8-3-1) clinched a playoff spot with a Section 1-2A win over Leechburg (1-14-1, 1-10-1). Liam McKim and Mark Bence also scored for the Bulldogs.
South Allegheny 5, East Allegheny 1 – Brayden Hernandez recorded a hat trick and Eli Noel buried a brace as South Allegheny (4-10, 3-8) defeated East Allegheny (1-11, 1-11) in Section 3-2A. Jacob Frum dished out four assists and Adam Jackowski followed with three for the Gladiators.
Southmoreland 9, Brownsville 0 – Jack Smith scored a hat trick and six others added a goal for Southmoreland (8-8, 7-5) in a rout of Brownsville (3-13, 1-11) in Section 4-2A.
Springdale 2, Trinity Christian 0 – Alex Wylly scored two goals for Springdale (10-3, 7-1) off feeds from Brennan Mattie and Nathan DiLeo in a Section 4-A win over Trinity Christian (7-7, 4-3). Christian Stresky kept a clean sheet for the Dynamos.
West Mifflin 4, Latrobe 3 (OT) – Cooper Hilligsberg recorded a hat trick, including the overtime winner, and Zaime Sharafee tallied a goal to lead West Mifflin (3-11, 2-6) to a Section 3-3A victory. John Massaro had two goals and Pietro Bonandi also scored for Latrobe (6-8, 5-3).
Field hockey
Penn-Trafford 4, Latrobe 3 – Brooke Bauer scored a hat trick and Emma Chamberlain also scored to lead Penn-Trafford (4-8, 2-7) to a Class 2A win. Sarah Blossey had two goals and Julia Macey also scored for Latrobe (5-7, 3-7).
Girls volleyball
Beaver 3, New Castle 0 – Kailyn Connelly had 11 kills, Aubrey Bumblis finished with 15 digs and Kayden Blinn had 21 assists and three aces to lead Beaver (12-1, 6-0) past New Castle (2-10, 1-6) in Section 4-3A. Malaya Oster served up eight aces and Anna Vinopal added three aces for the Bobcats.
Brownsville 3, Bentworth 1 – AiJanae Foster had 14 kills, Skyler Gates added 10 kills and five blocks and Abigale Thomas also had five blocks to lead Brownsville (13-1, 10-1) past Bentworth (6-9, 3-8) in Section 3-2A. Kenzie Adams had 17 assists, Nataya Williams added 12 assists and Ashley Evanchak had 20 digs for the Falcons.
Chartiers-Houston 3, Charleroi 1 – Brooke Popek had 15 kills to lead Chartiers-Houston (10-6, 8-3) past Charleroi (0-14, 0-11) in Section 3-2A.
Frazier 3, California 1 – Maddie Salisbury had 25 kills and seven blocks and Morgan Fisher collected 20 assists and 15 service points to lead Frazier (10-3, 7-0) past California (12-3, 6-2) in Section 4-A. Grace Polkabla had 17 digs and Addison Schultz added six kills and five blocks for the Commodores.
Greensburg Salem 3, Derry 1 – Vienna Jevicky had 14 kills, Julie Elias added 11 kills and Bella Dinkel dished out 47 assists to power Greensburg Salem (13-0, 9-0) in a Section 5-3A win over Derry (9-4, 7-3).
Hempfield 3, Penn-Trafford 2 – Lauren Howard had 21 kills, Jillian Sowers added 25 digs and Nella Bompiani had a 17-point service run that included five aces in the fourth set as Hempfield (9-3, 6-1) bested Penn-Trafford (8-5, 6-1) in Section 4-3A. Gabby Coccia had 14 blocks and Preslee Horchak produced 32 assists for the Spartans.
Indiana 3, West Mifflin 0 – Paige Fisanich’s eight kills and three aces led Indiana (11-3, 8-2) past West Mifflin (4-10, 2-7) in Section 5-3A. Allison Lichtenfels had six kills and five blocks, Gianna Boyer had four kills and four blocks, Chloe Hain had seven assists and four aces, and Hannah Stone had four kills and 12 assists for Indiana.
Jefferson-Morgan 3, Avella 0 – Emilee Bazzoli finished with 16 digs, Kelsey Vessels followed 12 digs, Ava Wood added 11 digs and nine kills and Mallory McManis had 12 assists as Jefferson-Morgan (5-7, 3-4) beat Avella (1-13, 0-7) in Section 3-A.
Laurel Highlands 3, Albert Gallatin 0 – Diondra Brown had six kills, seven blocks and 16 digs and Sara Reed added 20 assists and 18 digs to lead Laurel Highlands (8-5, 7-2) to a Section 3-3A win over Albert Gallatin (1-12, 0-10). Addie Ciez had five kills and nine digs, Harlie Dirdra finished with four kills and 10 digs and Esther Waqanivalu had three kills and 14 digs for Laurel Highlands. Ellie Seese had six kills, Mika Giachetti added four kills, Paityn Goletz had had four kills and six assists and Mikayla Shea finished with five digs for Albert Gallatin.
Mars 3, Highlands 0 – Cecilia Christy had 17 kills, Rylee Wooldridge added 13 kills and Alaina Graham had 11 digs as Mars (11-4, 6-1) beat Highlands (5-10, 1-6) in Section 2-3A. Gabi Weidemann had 35 assists for the Fightin’ Planets.
Mohawk 3, Beaver Falls 0 – Marli McBride had nine kills, Reagan Magno had seven kills, and Mohawk (11-3, 7-2) defeated Beaver Falls (1-12, 0-10) in Section 4-2A. Riley Shaffer had eight aces, while Sara Hampson had four aces for the Warriors.
Montour 3, Moon 0 – Annet Christian had 10 kills and four blocks and Sloane Cotten also had 10 kills for Montour (4-9, 3-7) in a Section 1-3A win over Moon (2-10, 0-9). Delaney Barto had 16 digs and Zoe Woessner handed out 18 assists for the Spartans.
Neshannock 3, Shenango 1 – Marika Measel produced 21 digs and 11 kills, Ava Skodak and Kate Pauline each added 17 digs and Lexi Aeschbacher followed with 13 digs to power Neshannock (11-2, 9-1) to a Section 4-2A win over Shenango (8-3, 6-3). Rian Owens had 32 assists, 15 digs and eight kills for the Lancers.
Seton LaSalle 3, South Allegheny 1 – Regan McBeth had 17 kills to lead Seton LaSalle past South Allegheny in Section 2-2A. Ally Chizmar contributed seven kills for the Rebels.
St. Joseph 3, Leechburg 0 – Kate Giannetta produced 10 kills and 19 digs, Kenzie Jones added 10 digs and Jillian Blach finished with 24 digs as St. Joseph (9-5, 6-1) swept Leechburg (3-10, 2-5) in Section 1-A.
Hockey
Canon-McMillan 6, Quaker Valley 1 – Austin Smith had two goals and Brayden Edgar, Rocco Musto, Tristan Bobbs and Elliot Moser also scored to lead Canon-McMillan (1-0) to a Class A win. Ben McHenry scored for Quaker Valley (2-1).
Morgantown 6, Trinity 3 – Cooper Cox recorded a hat trick while Brooks Nelson, Jonavin Price and Cooper Hellen each deposited a goal as Morgantown (2-0) defeated Trinity (0-1) in Division 2. Bobby Daddea and Zach Joblits scored even strength goals and Seamus Coyle added a shorthanded goal for the Hillers.
West Allegheny 9, Westmont Hilltop 3 – Chase Noel scored a hat trick and had an assist while John Wineland scored twice and had three assists to lead West Allegheny (1-1) to a Class A win over Westmont Hilltop (0-1). Coleman Milburn, Noah Figley, Thomas Slomski and Maddox Luketic each had a goal for West A. Colby Carlson, Gunner Montenaro and Connor Jones scored for the Hilltoppers.
Golf
WPIAL team semifinals – Fox Chapel’s Carson Kittsley, North Allegheny’s Ravi Desai and Franklin Regional’s Dylan Mauser all shot 3-under par 69 at the Links at Spring Church to lead their teams to Thursday’s WPIAL finals at the Cedarbrook Gold Course. Fox Chapel (377) qualified first, followed by North Allegheny (380) and Franklin Regional (381).Latrobe (385) finished fourth, just missing out of a qualifying spot.
At Duck Hollow, South Fayette (386), Moon (399) and Peters Township (403) were the three qualifiers. Belle Vernon’s Jordan Mocello was medalist with a 3-under 69, but the Leopards (416) finished sixth.
