Braden Crowe scored the first two goals and added an assist, Nick Harden earned the shutout in goal and Hempfield clinched a playoff berth with a 4-0 win over Gateway (4-11, 2-8) in Section 1-4A boys soccer Thursday night.
Isaac Pugliese and Tyler Gilpin also scored for the Spartans (5-10, 3-7).
Avonworth 2, Beaver 1 – Jimmy Quinn scored the game-winning goal and Alpha Diallo also found the net for Avonworth (15-2-1, 13-2-1) in a Section 2-2A win. Seth Kullen scored for Beaver (11-4, 11-4).
Bethel Park 2, Laurel Highlands 1 – Youssef Benrabia netted the winning goal with less than two minutes left and Josh Pantin also scored as Bethel Park (11-1-3, 11-0-2) defeated Laurel Highlands (10-7, 6-7) in Section 2-3A. Cole Radcliffe scored for the Mustangs.
Beth-Center 10, Greensburg Central Catholic 2 – Nekoda Bundy buried five goals and Parker Amos recorded a hat trick to lead Beth-Center (9-6, 5-2) to a Section 2-A win over Greensburg Central Catholic (2-10, 2-6). Acie Lawrence and Hunter Hobbs each tacked on a goal for the Bulldogs.
Canon-McMillan 6, Upper St. Clair 2 – Adam Kuchera had a hat trick and added two assists, Gabe Fegely finished with two goals and two assists and Cole Debbis also scored for Canon-McMillan (12-3, 7-3) in a Section 2-4A win over Upper St. Clair (3-11, 3-7).
Charleroi 12, Derry 1 – Dylan Klinger racked up six goals and two assists, hitting the 100-goal mark for his career, as Charleroi (13-3, 12-1) downed Derry (1-14-1, 0-12-1) in Section 4-2A. Blake Pendo had three goals and two assists and Otis McIntyre also had a hat trick for the Cougars.
Chartiers-Houston 12, California 0 – Ashton Kennedy and Josh Hawkins scored hat tricks and Carter Metzler added two goals to lead Chartiers-Houston (8-7, 4-4) past California (0-8, 0-7) in Section 2-A. Chole Bashioum, Bryson Boskovich, Shane English and Camden Breunig also scored for the Bucs.
Chartiers Valley 2, Moon 2 (OT) – Vincent DiPietro and Jonah Mastren-Williams scored for Chartiers Valley (9-4-1, 8-2-1) and Laercio de Sousa scored twice for Moon (10-5-1, 9-1-1) in a Section 4-3A draw.
Deer Lakes 5, Freeport 0 – Collin Rodgers had two goals and Peyton Kushon, Cuyler Crim and Jake Orseno also scored to lead Deer Lakes (13-3-1, 11-1-1) past Freeport (9-7-1, 5-7-1) in Section 1-2A. Artemey Parshyn had a pair of assists and Wesley Boyle kept a clean sheet for the Lancers.
Eden Christian 1, Freedom 0 – Spencer Rigby scored the lone goal to lift Eden Christian (8-7, 6-4) past Freedom (4-9-1, 3-6-1) in Section 1-A.
Elizabeth Forward 7, Ligonier Valley 0 – Luca Valerio scored two goals and had an assist and Aidan Davis added a goal and two assists to lead Elizabeth Forward (11-5, 10-3) to a Section 3-2A win against Ligonier Valley (3-12, 2-10). Nathan Pozzuto, Nate Grim, Evan Marasco and Levi George each tallied a goal for the Warriors.
Fox Chapel 3, North Allegheny 1 – David Zagrocki, Paulie Fitzsimmons and Calyx Kimbrough scored to lead Fox Chapel (13-1, 9-0) past North Allegheny (9-5-2, 5-4-1) in Section 3-4A. Connor Heliger scored for the Tigers.
Franklin Regional 6, West Mifflin 0 – Cruise Lamanna scored twice while Aiden Alexander, Daniel Todd, Dom Mascara and Fabrizzio Costa each added a goal as Franklin Regional (13-3, 7-2) blanked West Mifflin (3-12-1, 2-7) in Section 3-3A.
Hampton 4, Indiana 0 – Mason Hall buried a hat trick and Beckett Barton added a goal while Gavin Guinn kept a clean sheet as Hampton (12-2-2, 9-0-2) shut out Indiana (6-8-1, 3-6-1) in Section 1-3A.
Highlands 7, Burrell 0 – Jerid Kaminski and Ryan Maloney each scored a pair of goals to power Highlands (8-6-1, 7-5-1) to a Section 1-2A win over Burrell (4-13, 4-9). The win clinched the first playoff berth since 2004 for the Golden Rams.
Kiski Area 2, Armstrong 1 (OT) – Adam Troya scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lead Kiski Area (3-13, 3-9) to a Section 1-3A win over Armstrong (2-13, 1-10).
McGuffey 4, East Allegheny 0 – Ben Piatt, Jaiden Newton, Jack Gallick and Mark Conrad each scored a goal while Sam Stout recorded his ninth clean sheet of the year for McGuffey (12-5, 8-5) in a Section 3-2A shutout win against East Allegheny (1-12, 1-12).
Mt. Lebanon 8, Connellsville 2 – Grayson Stuart scored a pair of goals to lead Mt. Lebanon (11-4-2, 6-3-1) past Connellsville (2-14-1, 0-10) in Section 2-4A.
Mt. Pleasant 3, Southmoreland 1 – Gavin Rummel scored a pair of goals and Tyke Snyder added a goal and an assist to lead Mt. Pleasant (13-4, 12-1) past Southmoreland (8-9, 7-6) in Section 4-2A.
North Catholic 11, Leechburg 0 – Arthur Mendonca collected three goals and three assists, Jackson Schlegel scored twice and Brody Kennedy had a goal and two assists for North Catholic (14-1-1, 12-1) in a Section 1-2A win over Leechburg (1-15-1, 1-11-1).
OLSH 5, Aquinas Academy 0 – Owen Mizer and Issac Tarbuk had two goals each and Aaron Callahan also scored as OLSH (14-0, 10-0) finished its Section 3-A schedule undefeated with a win over Aquinas Academy (9-5, 7-2).
Peters Township 6, Woodland Hills 0 – Nate Matuszewski, Jake Gawenus, Charlie Lulich, Anthony Maiello, Cole Celedonia and Kaleb Sauter each buried a goal as Peters Township (12-0-1, 9-0-1) blanked Woodland Hills (5-7, 4-6) in Section 2-4A.
Riverview 9, St. Joseph 0 – Eben Ulrich, Liam Ulrich and Greg Morse scored two goals apiece as Riverview clinched a playoff spot with a Section 4-A win over St. Joseph (1-10, 1-9). Carson Bodnar, Benji Franciscus and Carter Baldwin also scored, Nico Lascola had three assists and Korbin Cooper and Sidney Vespi combined on the shutout for the Raiders.
Seneca Valley 5, North Hills 0 – Owen Eastgate led Seneca Valley (13-2, 8-2) with a hat trick in a Section 3-4A victory over North Hills (7-8-2, 1-6-2). Ben Baronner and Michael Pokrzywinski each tallied a goal for the Raiders.
Serra Catholic 2, Carlynton 0 – Will Freiwald scored a goal and had an assist and Alec Thielet tallied another goal as Serra Catholic (6-9, 4-6) shut out Carlynton (1-12-2, 1-8-1) in Section 3-A. Nate Loughner kept a clean sheet for the Eagles.
Seton LaSalle 7, South Allegheny 1 – Tyler Kovalcik recorded a hat trick to power Seton LaSalle (14-3, 11-2) in a Section 3-2A win over South Allegheny (5-10, 4-8). Tommy Kovalcik, Lucas Fameli, Mason Foster and Ryan Davis each added a goal for the Rebels.
Sewickley Academy 1, Beaver County Christian 0 – Chase D’Antonio scored the winning goal as Sewickley Academy (11-3, 7-2) defeated Beaver County Christian (13-2, 8-2) in a matchup of the top two teams in Section 1-A. Sewickley Academy can clinch a share of the section title with a win over Neshannock on Monday.
Shady Side Academy 19, Valley 0 – Mark Bence scored four goals while Manek Gerhardy and Perkin Showalter each recorded a hat trick as Shady Side Academy (10-4-1, 9-3-1) rolled to a Section 1-2A win against Valley (0-14-1, 0-12-1). Nine other Bulldogs scored a goal.
Shaler 3, Obama Academy 1 – Tyler Shaw scored twice, Jack Rios also had a goal and Alex Gaetano dished out two assists to lead Shaler (12-4) past Obama Academy (11-5) in a Section 1-3A exhibition match.
South Fayette 1, Ringgold 0 – Karthi Kandappan scored the only goal of the match to lead South Fayette (5-10, 5-8) to a Section 2-3A win over Ringgold (8-7, 7-6).
Thomas Jefferson 2, Trinity 1 (OT) – Gavin Kern scored both goals for Thomas Jefferson (13-2-1, 10-2-1) in a Section 2-3A win. John Garcia scored the lone goal for Trinity (9-4-1, 9-2-1).
Trinity Christian 2, Jeannette 1 (OT) – Travis Felician scored the overtime winner to lead Trinity Christian (8-7, 5-3) to a Section 4-A victory. Dom Semplice scored for Jeannette (5-10, 2-8).
West Allegheny 6, Blackhawk 1 – Jonah Luffe and Jensen Wolfe scored a pair of goals apiece while Harrison Murray and Jason Cosnek each had a goal for West Allegheny (8-6, 7-4) in a Section 4-3A win against Blackhawk (3-13, 1-10).
Yough 6, Waynesburg 5 – Isaac Pacacha had a hat trick and Noah Jurcevich added a pair of goals as Yough (11-4, 10-3) outscored Waynesburg (4-9-1, 4-8-1) in Section 4-2A.
Girls soccer
Bentworth 3, Washington 0 – Megan Keturakis, Joa Johns and Kylie Thompson each scored a goal while Julia Brandau and Maya Janitor combined on the shutout for Bentworth (15-1-1) in a nonsection win against Washington.
Carlynton 4, Hopewell 1 – Gigi Choate buried a pair of goals to pace Carlynton (8-6-1) in a nonsection win over Hopewell (0-13). Mary Crawford and Riley Mauro each added a goal for the Cougars.
Greensburg Salem 2, Yough 1 – Madalyn Steel and Laila McDade scored to lead Greensburg Salem (7-9) to a nonsection win over Yough (7-10).
Mohawk 8, South Side 0 – Audrina Cox had a hat trick, Gabby Paladino scored twice and Kassie McConnell recorded the shutout to lead Mohawk (3-9, 2-7) past South Side (0-9, 0-8) in Section 1-A. McKenzie Miller, Morgan Gabriel and Amara Allen also scored for Mohawk.
Obama Academy 3, McKeesport 0 – Kiera Dodds had two goals, Veronika Harless also scored and freshman Janie Allan recorded her first shutout as Obama Academy (5-12) picked up a nonsection win over McKeesport.
Serra Catholic 5, Bishop Canevin 2 – Milena Poziviak and Bella Dumbroski each had a goal and an assist and Abby Opferman, Kelly Morrissey and Bianca Gaydos also scored to lead Serra Catholic (8-7, 5-7) past Bishop Canevin (2-10, 2-10) in Section 3-A.
Springdale 5, Ellis School 0 – Lacey Shondeck had a hat trick, Hailey Marchlewski added a goal and two assists and Genevieve Conklin and Alexis Chase combined on the shutout to lead Springdale (9-1-1, 8-0-1) to a Section 4-A win over Ellis School (4-6, 3-6). Ainsley Wade also scored and Ariana Caltagarone had two assists for the Dynamos.

Baldwin 3, Bethel Park 2 – Mack Dempsey scored the winning goal with 3;27 to play and Zachariah Hunt made 38 saves to lead Baldwin (1-1) to a Class 2A victory. Aiden Rozboril and Nate Buys also scored for Baldwin. Ezra Kozak and Peter Velisaris scored for Bethel Park (1-1).
Central Catholic 5, Fox Chapel 3 – Domenic Ventura scored a hat trick, David Ketterer added a goal and two assists and Julian Lappe also scored to lead Central Catholic (2-0) to a Class 3A win. Tucker Cullen and Spencer Goehring had a goal and an assist and Linden Trac also scored for Fox Chapel (1-2).
Chartiers Valley 4, Butler 3 – Dylan Shamonsky scored a pair of goals while Bryce Wichterman and Ryan Viola each tacked on a goal as Chartiers Valley (1-0-1) defeated Butler (0-1) in Class A. Greyson Steamdman scored twice and Seamus Griffith added a goal for the Golden Tornado.
Connellsville 9, Elizabeth Forward 1 – Nolan Wojnar scored a hat trick and added an assist, Sam Denny scored twice and Mason Mazak and Liam King each had a goal and an assist to help Connellsville (2-0) to a Division 2 win. Joe Jennings scored for Elizabeth Forward (0-2).
Moon 3, Freeport 1 – Clayton Foster scored twice and Jordan Riecke added a goal and two assists to lead Moon (2-0) to a Class A win. Max Smith scored for Freeport (1-1).
Morgantown 10, Sewickley Academy 2 – Cooper Cox scored four goals, including two on the power play, and Brooks Nelson and Dominic Petrucci scored two goals apiece to power Morgantown (3-0) to a Division 2 win over Sewickley Academy (1-2). Mario Thomas scored an even strength and a powerplay goal for the Panthers.
Peters Township 7, Pine-Richland 3 – Chay Lamagna had a hat trick, Thomas Dowden V scored twice and Jacob Hlawati finished with a goal and three assists to lead Peters Township (2-0) to a Class 3A win. Liam Voit had a goal and an assist and Cullen Campbell and Noah Taggert also scored for Pine-Richland (0-2).
Plum 2, North Hills 1 (OT) – Colby Bartos scored the overtime winner and Alex Amen converted on the power play to lead Plum (2-0) to Class A win. Jonathan Trosky scored and Parker Talerico made 39 saves for North Hills (1-0-1).
Quaker Valley 6, Beaver 0 – Jace Vasbinder had three goals and an assist and Ian Lorang made 17 saves to earn the shutout as Quaker Valley (3-1) beat Beaver (1-1) in Class A. Luke Koehler had a goal and two assists and Matthias Lezama added a goal and an assist for Quaker Valley.
Ringgold 5, Knoch 0 – Landon Vaccaro scored four goals and Mason Ribnicky made 13 saves to lead Ringgold (2-1) to a Division 2 win. Bruce Santina had a goal and two assists for Ringgold. Brady Heisel made 41 saves for Knoch (0-2).
Seneca Valley 8, South Fayette 0 – Carson Lindberg and John Sroka III each had two goals and an assist to lead Seneca Valley (2-0) past South Fayette (2-1) in Class 3A.

Girls volleyball
Beaver 3, Central Valley 0 – Kailyn Connelly had 16 kills, Aubrey Bumblis added 13 digs and Kayden Blinn had 24 assists and four blocks to power Beaver (14-1, 8-0) to a Section 4-3A win over Central Valley (8-6, 6-2). Lanie Malobabaich had eight kills and Anna Vinopal had nine digs for the Bobcats.
Belle Vernon 3, California 2 – Aubrey Brown had 19 kills, Joy Johnson finished with 27 digs and Abby Nickolls handed out 31 assists to lead Belle Vernon (13-3) past California (12-4) in a nonsection match.
Canon-McMillan 3, Baldwin 0 – Natalie Carr had 18 kills and 14 digs and Journee Scott added 10 kills to lead Canon-McMillan (9-5, 5-3) to a section 1-4A win over Baldwin (6-8, 2-6). Carsen Brown and Katie Wing each dished out 19 assists, Amanda Ciolli finished with 11 digs and Lilly Harris had five kills for the Big Macs.
Greensburg Salem 3 , West Mifflin 0 – Patty Redinger had seven kills and 17 assists and Greensburg Salem (14-0, 10-0) had 18 aces as a team in Section 5-3A win over West Mifflin (4-11, 2-8).
Hempfield 3, Connellsville 0 – Ella Berkebile had 10 kills, Nella Bompiani crushed five aces and Preslee Horchak produced 29 assists as Hempfield (10-3, 7-1) swept Connellsville (1-12, 0-8) in a Section 3-4A matchup.
Indiana 3, McKeesport 0 – Paige Fisanich had 13 kills, Chloe Hain finished with 10 kills and four aces, and Hannah Stone dished out 16 assists to lead Indiana (12-3, 9-2) past McKeesport (4-10, 1-9) in Section 5-3A. Allison Lichtenfels had six kills and three blocks and Emma Todd added five kills and four aces for Indiana.
Mapletown 3, West Greene 2 – Rowan Eisiminger had 16 kills and 12 digs, Treslee Weston added 14 kills and Marley Shiflett produced 25 assists to lead Mapletown (6-8, 4-4) to a Section 3-A win over West Greene (5-4, 5-3).
Mars 3, Valley 0 – Rylee Wooldridge had 11 kills, Cecilia Christy added nine kills, Gabi Weidemann dished out 33 assists and Alyssa Genis finished with four kills and four blocks to lead Mars (12-4, 7-1) past Valley (3-12, 0-8) in Section 2-3A.

St. Joseph 3, Springdale 0 – Kate Giannetta finished with 30 digs and 19 kills, Kenzie Jones added nine digs and eight kills and Jillian Bloch had 24 digs as St. Joseph (10-5, 7-1) beat Springdale (7-7, 5-3) in Section 1-1A.
Field hockey
Ellis School 3, Latrobe 0 – Jordan Evans, Anna Morowitz and Jovie Cagnacci scored, Kate Habershaw had three assists and Sophie Wood preserved the shutout to lead Ellis School (5-5-1) to a nonsection win.
Girls tennis
Quaker Valley 4, Mt. Pleasant 1 – The doubles teams of Kate Miller and Jane Lenhard and Lily McClain and Lucy John won tightly contested two-set matches to lead top-seeded Quaker Valley in the Class 2A quarterfinals. Avery Allan and Livia Jobbins also won in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles for the Quakers, who will meet No. 4 Oakland Catholic in the semifinals Monday. Autumn Jurkovic-Kuzma won a three-set match at No. 3 singles for Mt. Pleasant.
