High school roundup for Sept. 10, 2024: Fox Chapel stops Seneca Valley in 4A showdown

Aidan Stein and Chase Carney scored to lead Fox Chapel to a 2-1 victory over Seneca Valley in a matchup of top teams in Section 3-4A boys soccer Tuesday. The Foxes (4-1-1, 2-0) built a 2-0 lead before Owen Eastgate scored to bring the Raiders (5-2, 1-1) back within a goal.
Allderdice 8, Belle Vernon 1 – Ethan Voight-Cherna had a hat trick and Aidan Thomas and Pierre Cozby each had a goal and two assists to lead Allderdice (4-1-1, 2-0-1) to a Section 3-3A win over Belle Vernon (3-2, 1-2). Jacek Piekut added a goal and an assist for the Dragons. Chris Showman scored for the Leopards.
Avonworth 4, Keystone Oaks 1 – Abdul Basit had two goals and Abdul Wahab and Calder Mahan also scored to lead Avonworth (4-1, 4-0) past Keystone Oaks (1-2-1, 1-2-1) in Section 2-2A.
Beaver County Christian 1, Neshannock 0 – Robert McMahan scored off a feed from Rocco DeSarbo as Beaver County Christian (4-1, 2-0) edged out Neshannock (5-2, 0-2) in Section 1-A.
Bentworth 14, Chartiers-Houston 0 – Adam Moessner had a hat trick and Dillan Colbert, Cameron Butler and Billy Moyer added two goals apiece as Bentworth (6-0, 2-0) blanked Chartiers-Houston (1-6, 1-1) in Section 2-A.
Bethel Park 6, Albert Gallatin 0 – Luke Yimin, Youssef Benrabia, Xavier Jackson, Cooper Kicinski, Jackson Friday and Andrew Hughes scored for Bethel Park (3-2, 3-1) in a Section 2-3A win over Albert Gallatin (0-4, 0-4). Luke Rubican and Jacob Coffield combined on the shutout.
Blackhawk 1, Baldwin 1 – Drake Moore converted a penalty kick to help Blackhawk (0-3-1, 0-2-1) to a Section 4-3A draw with Baldwin (0-5-1, 0-3-1).
Charleroi 7, Brownsville 0 – Dylan Klinger and Blake Pendo each scored a pair of goals while Ethan Hartley, Nolan Mosco and Declan Carter each added a goal as Charleroi (4-0, 3-0) rolled to a Section 4-2A win against Brownsville (1-3-1, 1-2-1).
Deer Lakes 2, Burrell 1 – Collin Rodgers and Peyton Kushon scored to lead Deer Lakes (5-2, 3-1) to a Section 1-2A victory. Kooper Luffy scored for Burrell (2-3, 2-3).
Elizabeth Forward 10, East Allegheny 1 – Dominic Cavalier and Levi George each scored a pair of goals to pace Elizabeth Forward (3-2-1, 3-0-1) in a Section 3-2A win over East Allegheny (2-4, 0-4). Luca Valerio, Aidan Davis, Ronald Chambers, Evan Marasco, Bo Hallas and Tucker Ritchie-McCune each added a goal for the Warriors. Caden Yukon scored for the Wildcats.
Freeport 12, Valley 1 – Angelo Porco and Xavier DeWitt scored four goals apiece and Ryan Sutara added a pair to power Freeport (4-1-1, 2-1-1) past Valley (0-5, 0-4) in Section 1-2A. Carson Rowley and Luke Como also scored for the Yellowjackets.
Greensburg Central Catholic 2, Beth-Center 1 – Jackson Vacanti scored two goals, including a successful penalty kick, as Greensburg Central Catholic (1-2-1, 1-1) defeated Beth-Center (3-1-1, 0-1) in Section 2-A. Grant Brewer had an assist and Isaac House made 10 saves.
Hampton 6, Armstrong 0 – Xavier Ware had two goals, Gavin Copelin, Carson Colvin, Mason Hall and Brody Dunst also scored, and Gavin Guinn recorded the shutout for Hampton (3-0-1, 2-0-1) in a Section 1-3A win over Armstrong (3-2, 3-1).
Hempfield 3, Penn Hills 0 – Braden Crowe scored a hat trick and freshman goalkeeper Nick Harden preserved the shutout as Hempfield (2-4, 1-1) defeated Penn Hills (1-5, 0-2) in Section 1-4A. Sawyer Leuthold and Braden Reese recorded assists for the Spartans, who won their first section match since 2019.
Highlands 10, Leechburg 0 – Ryan Maloney had three goals and three assists and Brady Celko added three goals and an assist to lead Highlands (3-2, 2-2) past Leechburg (1-6, 1-3) in Section 1-2A. Cainen McCann collected a goal and two assists for the Golden Rams. Dean Besterman, Ty Hall and Jerid Kaminski also scored.
Mars 8, Obama Academy 0 – Miles Frazier had four goals and two assists and Luke Hagen recorded the shutout as Mars (5-0-1, 3-0-1) blanked Obama Academy (2-3, 0-3) in Section 1-3A.
Montour 2, West Allegheny 1 – Dominic Passaro scored twice and Brayden Vlasach and Brayden Davin recorded assists to lead Montour (6-1, 4-0) to a Section 4-3A win over West Allegheny (2-4, 1-2).
Mt. Pleasant 2, Greensburg Salem 0 – Tyke Snyder and Jarrett Garn each scored a goal while Grayson Gardner kept a clean net as Mt. Pleasant (5-1, 4-0) blanked Greensburg Salem (0-6, 0-4) in Section 4-2A.
Norwin 3, Central Catholic 2 – Daniel Maddock had a hat trick and Ryan Schoemer and Joey Walton recorded assists for Norwin (3-3, 2-0) in a Section 1-4A win over Central Catholic (0-5-1, 0-2).
OLSH 8, Brentwood 2 – Seth Therrien scored twice to lead OLSH (4-0, 2-0) past Brentwood (3-2, 0-2) in Section 3-A. Owen Minzer, Brady Hernandez, Peter Zink, CJ Wright, Aaron Callahan and Jon Mackin also scored for the Chargers.
Peters Township 3, Canon-McMillan 1 – Anthony Maiello scored a pair of goals and Brett Martin netted another and had two assists to lead Peters Township (4-1-1, 2-0) past Canon-McMillan (3-1-1, 1-1) in Section 2-4A.
Pine-Richland 2, North Allegheny 1 – Same Beuse and Finn Kichi scored a goal apiece to help Pine-Richland (3-3, 1-1) earn a Section 3-4A win over North Allegheny (4-2-1, 1-1).
Plum 4, Gateway 0 – Gage Adinolfi had a goal and two assists and Kent Holmes, Luke Hoburg and Parker Berrott also scored for Plum (4-0-2, 2-0) in a Section 1-4A win over Gateway (2-3, 1-1). Brady McLaughlin and Chase Eber combined on the shutout.
Ringgold 8, McKeesport 1 – Aidyn Whaley scored a pair of goals, Izaiah Wilson added a goal and two assists and Cody Scheponik had a goal and an assist to lead Ringgold (4-0-1, 3-0-1) to a Section 2-3A victory over McKeesport (0-6, 0-4). Nick Evans and Niko Bove each had a goal and an assist while Lucas Wukovich and James Lytle each netted a goal for the Rams.
Serra Catholic 3, Bishop Canevin 0 – Brayden Graham scored two goals and had an assist while Julian McLaughlin added a goal as Serra Catholic (1-6, 1-1) shut out Bishop Canevin (1-5, 0-2) in Section 3-A. Nate Lougher made six saves to keep a clean sheet for the Eagles.
Seton LaSalle 2, McGuffey 0 – Darius Norkevicus and Max Goob scored and Keenu Brooks recorded the shutout as Seton LaSalle (5-1, 4-0) beat McGuffey (3-3, 1-2) in Section 3-2A.
Southmoreland 2, Waynesburg 0 – Jack Smith and Hunter Ryan scored and Trent Nelson recorded the shutout to lead Southmoreland (5-2, 3-1) past Waynesburg (0-4, 0-3) in Section 4-2A.
Springdale 8, Jeannette 0 – Patrick Wylly had two goals and two assists and Nathan Dubas also scored twice to lead Springdale (4-0, 2-0) past Jeannette (1-4, 0-2) in Section 4-A. Caleb Leahy added a goal and two assists and Colton Gent had a goal and an assist for the Dynamos.
Thomas Jefferson 1, South Fayette 0 – Brayden Miller scored off an assist from Jake Shoemaker to pull Thomas Jefferson (4-0-1, 3-0-1) past South Fayette (2-3, 2-2) in Section 2-3A.
Trinity 6, Laurel Highlands 0 – Cooper Cincinnati scored a pair of goals while Talan Gardner, Brady Anderson, Collin Reihner and John Garcia each added a goal for Trinity (3-1-2, 3-0-1) in a Section 2-3A shutout win over Laurel Highlands (0-3-2, 0-3-1).
Trinity Christian 7, St. Joseph 1 – Luke Schellhase had a hat trick to lead Trinity Christian (4-1, 2-0) to a Section 4-A win over St. Joseph (1-5, 0-2).
Upper St. Clair 2, Mt. Lebanon 1 – Ben Murtaugh scored a goal to lead Upper St. Clair (3-2-1, 2-0) to a win in Section 2-4A win over Mt. Lebanon (3-4, 0-2).
Winchester Thurston 7, Riverview 1 – Michael Miller and Malik White scored hat tricks as Winchester Thurston (2-2, 2-0) beat Riverview (0-3, 0-2) in Section 4-A.
Girls volleyball
Beaver 3, Lincoln Park 0 – Kailyn Connelly had 11 kills and Lanie Malobabich contributed eight kills to lead Beaver to a Section 4-3A win. Zoe Ringer had 20 assists, Aubrey Bumblis added 10 digs and Anna Vinopal had seven aces and three kills.
Carmichaels 3, Jefferson-Morgan 0 – Ashton Batis had 23 digs, Pacey Pratt followed with 16 digs, Bailey Barnyak added 14 digs and Avery Voithofer had 23 assists for Carmichaels (2-4, 1-0) in a Section 3-A win. Emilee Bazzoli and Alisa Long each had 14 digs, Lucca Jellots had 11 digs, and Alaina McCollum and Ava Wood contributed with eight digs apiece for Jefferson-Morgan (2-4, 0-1).
Frazier 3, Geibel 0 – Allie Monack had 10 kills, Grace Vaughn had 27 assists and Addison Day contributed 11 service points as Frazier (3-2, 2-0) swept Geibel (0-4, 0-1) in Section 4-1A.
Hempfield 3, Norwin 0 – Claire Mitchell and Lauren Howard each had eight kills, Jillian Sowers added 24 digs and Preslee Horchak had 22 assists as Hempfield (2-2, 1-0) cruised to a Section 3-4A win against Norwin (1-4, 0-1).
Knoch 3, Highlands 0 – Karlee Buterbaugh had 11 digs, nine kills and 13 service points to lead Knoch (3-1, 1-0) to a Section 2-3A win. Kenzie Kurtz added seven kills and Alena Tekely had 11 service points.
Laurel Highlands 3, Belle Vernon 0 – Jayna Fabrey had nine digs, Lucy Baker contributed eight digs, Alexandra Mattey chipped in with seven digs and seven kills, and Sara Reed led all players with 10 assists as Laurel Highlands (4-0, 2-0) swept Belle Vernon (1-4, 0-3) in a Section 3-3A win.
Leechburg 3, Riverview 0 – Emily Talarico had six kills and three aces and Addie Zanotto added five kills to lead Leechburg (2-2, 1-0) to a Section 1-A win. Giuliana Granata served five aces for the Blue Devils.
Mars 3, Hampton 0 – Lily Javor had 10 kills, Cecillia Christy had eight kills and seven blocks, Alaina Graham had 14 digs and Gabi Weidemann directed the offense with 33 assists as Mars (3-3. 1-0) beat Hampton (3-2, 0-1) in Section 2-3A.
Ringgold 3, Albert Gallatin 1 – Leah Myers had 12 kills, Mia Myers added 17 assists and Mya Glisan contributed seven kills for Albert Gallatin (1-3, 1-2) in a Section 3-3A loss to Ringgold (4-1, 3-0).
St. Joseph 3, Aquinas Academy 2 – Jillian Bloch had 19 digs while Sofia Quattrocchi and Kate Giannetta each had nine kills as St. Joseph (4-2, 1-0) bested Aquinas Academy (1-2, 0-1) in a Section 1-A match.
Girls tennis
Quaker Valley 5, Ambridge 0 – Avery Allan, Jay Olawaiye and Jane Lenhard each won in straight sets in singles matches for Quaker Valley (7-0, 4-0) in a Section 5-2A win over Ambridge (2-3, 1-3). Livia Jobbins and Hannah Stein secured a win in first doubles while Parker Barnes and Kate Parker took second doubles to complete the sweep for the Quakers.
Field hockey
Penn-Trafford 3, Upper St. Clair 0 – Liz Welsh had two goals, Annabell Carvajal also scored, Giulianna Youngo collected two assists, and Maura Spadone also had an assist to lead Penn-Trafford (4-1, 3-0) to a Class 2A win over Upper St. Clair (0-3-1, 0-2).
Pine-Richland 2, North Allegheny 0 – Alyssa Baculik and Georgia Rottinghaus each scored to boost Pine-Richland (6-0, 3-0) past North Allegheny (2-4, 1-2) in Class 3A.
