High school roundup for Sept. 13, 2025: South Side tops Summit Academy in Big 7

Amare Moman rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns as South Side earned a 42-6 victory over Summit Academy (0-4, 0-1) in a Big 7 Conference football game Saturday.

Will Morgan added 90 rushing yards for South Side (3-1, 1-0), which outgained Summit Academy, 385 yards to 103 yards. Syamir Newkirk scored Summit Academy’s only touchdown on a 94-yard run in the fourth quarter. Neither team completed a pass.

Bishop Canevin 46, Laurel 28 — Justin Melvin set a single game school record with four touchdown receptions as Bishop Canevin (2-2) earned a nonconference victory over Laurel (3-1).

Melvin had 6 catches for 100 yards and 4 TD’s. Junior quarterback Brady Wagner threw for 183 yards and two scores for the Crusaders.

Laurel senior quarterback Luca Santini was 10 of 24 passing for 122 yards and a touchdown. He also scored twice on short runs.

The game was tied in the first half, 13-13, before Bishop Canevin scored 26 unanswered points. Laurel rallied in the fourth quarter to pull to within 11 points at 39-28 before the Crusaders iced the game on Melvin’s fourth touchdown reception.

Boys soccer

Butler 7, Slippery Rock 0 — Everett Reges and Jude Perhacs had two goals and one assist each as Butler (3-4) shut out Slippery Rock in nonsection play. Colten English added one goal and two assists. Thaddeus Mago and Colton Crider combined for the clean sheet.

Deer Lakes 1, Mars 0 — Collin Rodgers scored off of an assist from Wesley Boyle as Deer Lakes (7-2) shut out Mars (5-3-1) in a nonsection game.

Franklin Regional 6, Montour 1 — Cruise Lamana and Aiden Alexander scored two goals each as Franklin Regional (7-1) beat Montour (5-4) in nonsection play. Dalton Young had Montour’s lone goal.

Freeport 2, Springdale 1 — Dante Treglia had one goal and one assist as Freeport (5-2-1) beat Springdale (4-1) in nonsection play. Carson Rowley also scored for Freeport while Nathan Dileo had Springdale’s goal.

Hampton 1, Pine-Richland 0 — In nonsection play, Mason Hall scored with Jake Bagaley assisting as Hampton (5-1-1) beat Pine-Richland (3-4-1). Gavin Guinn recorded the shutout.

Latrobe 4, Mt. Pleasant 2 — John Massaro, Lucas Lesko, Jacob Stephenson and Steele Brunton scored for Latrobe (3-4) in its nonsection win against Mt. Pleasant (6-2). Tyke Snyder and Gavin Rummel tallied Mt. Pleasant’s goals.

Moon 2, South Park 1 — Hayden Dunn scored on a penalty kick in overtime to give Moon (5-3) the nonsection win against South Park (6-1).

Norwin 5, Penn-Trafford 1 — Caleb Maddock scored two goals, and Ryan Schoemer, Joey Walton and Obaara Owolabi added scores as Norwin (3-3-2) rolled past rival Penn-Trafford (5-3) in a nonsection game. Tanner Johnson had two assists for the Knights, who are unbeaten in five straight games.

Girls soccer

Butler 5, Mercer 0 — Lucia Leyland scored twice as Butler (3-3-1) beat Mercer in a nonsection game.

Central Valley 7, OLSH 0 — Aubrey Grater scored three goals, Chloe Haney added two goals and one assist and Reagan Patten contributed one goal and three assists as Central Valley (3-1-1) shut out OLSH (2-4-1) in nonsection play.

Deer Lakes 2, Fort LeBoeuf 1 — Bri Simonetti scored in the second half on an assist from Cadence Drum as Deer Lakes (7-1) beat Fort LeBoeuf in nonsection play. Tessa Hollibaugh scored earlier for Deer Lakes.

Franklin Regional 3, Montour 0 — Alyssa Velasquez, Reese Regelski and Grace Copeland scored as Franklin Regional (5-2) topped Montour (6-1) in nonsection play.

Highlands 5, McKeesport 2 — Emma Napierkowski scored twice, and Ella Prager, Hailee Rankin and Alyssa Jameson also scored as Highlands won a nonsection game. Eleanor Homer and Dannah Sebelia scored for McKeesport.

Peters Township 3, Thomas Jefferson 1 — Katie Froelich, Fallan Malley and Mandy Pirosko scored for Peters Township (5-0-2) in its nonsection win at Thomas Jefferson (5-3).

Trinity 1, Laurel Highlands 0 — In nonsection play, Cassidy Arthur scored the only goal and Haley Mitchell recorded the shutout as Trinity (1-3-2) beat Laurel Highlands (3-3-1).
