High school roundup for Sept. 14, 2024: Jaivin Peel pilots Western Beaver past Beaver Falls

Jaivin Peel threw for 244 yards and four touchdowns and added a rushing touchdown to lead Western Beaver to a 49-6 victory over Beaver Falls (0-4, 0-1) in Class 2A Midwestern Athletic Conference football Saturday afternoon.

Curtjuan Moore caught two passes — both for touchdowns — for 104 yards. Western Beaver (2-1, 1-0) scored all of its points in the first half.

Boys soccer

Avonworth 12, Ellwood City 0 – Abdul Basit and Jackson Shields each scored twice and Calder Mahan had a goal and three assists to lead Avonworth (6-1, 6-0) to a Section 2-2A win over Ellwood City (0-6, 0-6).

Canon-McMillan 5, South Fayette 0 – Adam Kuchera scored a hat trick and Mason Brown and Cole Debbis added goals to lead Canon-McMillan (3-2-1) to a nonsection win over South Fayette (3-4).

Central Valley 3, Beaver 2 – Cameron DeVincentis netted a pair of goals and Colby Pyrdek also scored to help Central Valley (7-0, 5-0) to a Section 2-2A win. Anthony Furda and Shane Ebbitt scored for Beaver (4-2-1, 3-2-1).

Charleroi 5, Waynesburg 0 – Dylan Klinger figured in on all five goals, scoring three and assisting on two, as Charleroi (6-0, 5-0) shut out Waynesburg (0-6, 0-5) in Section 4-2A.

Chartiers Valley 2, Hampton 1 (OT) – John Krug scored the overtime winner to lift Chartiers Valley (5-1, 4-1) to a Section 4-3A win over Montour (6-3, 4-2).

Elizabeth Forward 3, Baldwin 0 – Luca Valerio had a goal and two assists, Aidan Davis and Levi George also scored and Matthew Johnston preserved the shutout as Elizabeth Forward (5-2-1) picked up a nonsection win over Baldwin (0-6-1).

Hampton 5, Pine-Richland 0 – Five Talbots scored goals and Gavin Guinn and Landen Bierker combined on the shutout as Hampton (4-0-2) beat Pine-Richland (3-5) in nonsection play. Mason Hall, Matteo Sciulli, Wyatt Bonfili, Beckett Barton and Jake Killian were the goal scorers.

Moon 3, South Park 1 – Zech Balbach had a goal and two assists as Moon (8-0) defeated South Park (5-1-1) in nonsection play.

North Catholic 2, Shady Side Academy 1 – Justin Garvey scored the game-winning goal with eight minutes to play and Austin English also scored as North Catholic (6-2, 5-1) rallied for a Section 1-2A win over Shady Side Academy (3-3-1, 3-2-1).

Norwin 3, Penn-Trafford 0 – Sophomore Reed Hoyle recorded his second straight clean sheet as Norwin (5-3) beat Penn-Trafford (2-3-1) in a nonsection game. Daniel Maddock tallied a goal and an assist while Tristan Josephic and George Bunovich added goals.

Peters Township 5, Ringgold 0 – Brett Martin scored two goals as Peters Township (6-1-1) beat Ringgold (4-1-1) in a nonsection game. Goalkeepers Markus Bizyak and Aaron Peterson shared the shutout.

Quaker Valley 2, Keystone Oaks 0 – Colin Benge and Sutton Hoehl scored to power Quaker Valley (4-3, 4-1) to a Section 2-2A win over Keystone Oaks (2-3-1, 2-3-1).

Riverview 3, Burrell 1 – Chris O’Toole had a goal and two assists to lead Riverview (1-4) to a nonsection win over Burrell (2-4). Eben Ulrich and Drew Hunter added goals for Riverview while Vinny Guerrini notched Burrell’s only goal.

Springdale 3, Freeport 2 – Nate Dubas scored two goals and John Duku had one as Springdale (6-0) defeated Freeport (4-2-2) in a nonsection game. Ryan Sutara and Angelo Porco scored for Freeport, which led 1-0 at halftime.

Girls soccer

Avonworth 3, Wilmington 0 – Makeda Grieco had a goal and an assist, Jordan Krist and Nora Sullivan also scored, and Elena Zimmerman made two saves to preserve the shutout and lead Avonworth (4-3-1) to a nonsection win.

Beaver 14, Ambridge 1 – Lilia Battalini, Ana Hahn and Sydney Chontos scored three goals each as Beaver (6-0, 3-0) beat Ambridge (4-5, 1-3) in Section 3-2A. Battalini added four assists while Chontos and Hahn had two assists each. Mia Furda chipped in two goals and one assists for Beaver, which has outscored its opponents this season 34-2.

North Allegheny 2, Upper St. Clair 0 – Mia Barsotti and Ava Hutter scored and Maggie Nestor recorded the shutout as North Allegheny (5-2) blanked Upper St. Clair (4-1-2) in a nonsection match.

Peters Township 2, Thomas Jefferson 0 – In nonsection play, Rylie Busch and Paige Malley scored goals and goalkeepers Molly Kubistek and Kaitlyn Strine combined for the shutout as Peters Township (6-0-1) beat Thomas Jefferson (4-2).

Shaler 5, North Hills 1 – Naudia Zotter had a goal and an assist to lead Shaler (4-3) to a nonsection win over North Hills (2-6). Addy Paladin, Melina Poliziani, Addie Arenth and Etta Warner also scored for the Titans.

West Allegheny 4, Hopewell 0 – Chloe Hart scored three goals, giving her 10 on the season, and added an assist to lead West Allegheny (5-2) to the nonsection win over Hopewell (0-4-1). Madison Pons picked up one goal and one assist.

Yough 3, Belle Vernon 2 (OT) – Gracie Tomko had a pair of goals and Leah Slavick also scored to power Yough (5-3) to a nonsection overtime win. Grace West scored twice for Belle Vernon (4-5).
