High school roundup for Sept. 16, 2024: South Fayette races past Thomas Jefferson

Quinn Miller, Gabby Beinecke and Emily Sinton each had two goals to lead South Fayette to a 7-1 victory over Thomas Jefferson in a matchup of top teams in Section 3-3A girls soccer Monday.

Abbey Spalla also scored and Mia Deramo had two assists for the Lions (6-3, 4-0) in a matchup of top teams in Section 3-3A. Ashlynn Fry scored for the Jaguars (4-3, 3-1).

Ambridge 1, Avonworth 0 (OT) – Megan Conover scored the overtime winner to lift Ambridge (5-5, 2-3) past Avonworth (4-4-1, 2-2) in Section 3-2A.

Beaver 3, Quaker Valley 2 – Sydney Chontos had a goal and an assist and Emerson Connelly and Madeline Porto also scored for Beaver (7-0, 4-0) in a Section 3-2A win. Annabel Miko and Anna Hanley scored for Quaker Valley (5-2-1, 3-1).

Belle Vernon 7, Charleroi 0 – Payton Walsh and Grace Walsh scored two goals apiece and Ava Scalise, Emma Nicklow and Sammy Mincone also scored to lead Belle Vernon (5-5, 4-2) to a Section 1-2A win over Charleroi (0-6, 0-5).

Bentworth 3, Beth-Center 0 – Brielle Dillon, Brina Orsatti and Megan Keturakis scored, Bella Moyer had three assists and Nita Anderson and Julia Brandau combined on the shutout for Bentworth (6-0, 3-0) in a Section 2-A win over Beth-Center (1-5, 0-4).

Bethel Park 4, Blackhawk 0 – Callee DalBon, Grace Ferency and River Hendrych-Bondra scored for Bethel Park (4-2-2, 3-2-1) in a Section 2-3A win over Blackhawk (3-5, 2-3).

Butler 5, Allderdice 0 – Cecelia Wolford had a pair of goals and Lucia Leyland contributed four assists to pace Butler (4-4, 2-2) in a Section 3-4A victory over Allderdice (3-5, 1-3). Ava Soley, Ella Nichols and Kaitlynn Plopi added a goal each for the Golden Tornado.

Chartiers-Houston 9, California 1 – Amelia Brose had a hat trick, Ava Capozzoli added two goals and Cecilia Hess and Hailey Siege had a goal each to lead Chartiers-Houston (5-2, 3-1) to a Section 2-A win over California (2-3-1, 1-1-1).

Fox Chapel 7, Gateway 0 – Emily McKee had a hat trick and Sophie Thorne added two goals for Fox Chapel (7-0, 6-0) in a Section 1-3A win over Gateway (2-5, 1-3).

Franklin Regional 2, Elizabeth Forward 1 – Reilly Weaver scored both goals for Franklin Regional (5-4, 4-1) in a Section 4-3A win over Elizabeth Forward (2-4, 2-4).

Greensburg Salem 4, West Mifflin 2 – Olivia Smith, Sabrina Kasic, Alaina Helman and Eden Wilson scored for Greensburg Salem (3-4, 1-4) in a Section 4-3A win over West Mifflin (1-5-1, 0-4-1).

Hampton 3, Shaler 1 – Sara Kenst led Hampton (6-2, 3-2) with two goals and Kate Lewis added another in a Section 1-3A win over Shaler (4-4, 2-3).

Latrobe 9, Armstrong 0 – Annalyse Bauer scored four goals and Geli Dent added a pair to lead Latrobe (2-2-2-, 2-1-1) to a Section 1-4A win over Armstrong (1-7, 1-3). Robin Reilly, Bri Hoffer and Mackenzie Kubistek also scored for the Wildcats.

Mohawk 4, Southside 0 – Audrey Whippo scored two goals and Audrina Cox and Taylor Logan added a goal apiece to lead Mohawk (4-2, 2-2) to a Section 1-A win over South Side (0-6, 0-4).

Montour 4, Trinity 0 – Ashley Janovich had two goals and Grace Bannon and Sarah Meldon also scored for Montour (5-2-1, 3-1-1) in a Section 2-3A win over Trinity (0-5, 0-5).

North Catholic 1, Shady Side Academy 0 – Simone Sharpless netted the lone goal as North Catholic (9-0, 4-0) topped Shady Side Academy (3-4, 2-2) in Section 2-2A.

Oakland Catholic 8, Uniontown 1 Corinna Martella and Emma Gompers each scored a pair of goals to lead Oakland Catholic (3-4, 2-2) past Uniontown (1-5, 0-4) in Section 3-3A.

Peters Township 3, Mt. Lebanon 0 – Cam Klein had a goal and an assist and Taylor McCullough and Paige Malley also scored to lead Peters Township (7-0-1, 3-0-1) to a Section 2-4A win over Mt. Lebanon (4-3-1, 1-3). Marina Hajnosz dished out two assists and Molly Kubistek preserved the shutout.

Pine-Richland 5, North Hills 0 – Abby Satina led Pine-Richland (5-2, 3-1) with two goals and Anna Amato, Emme Kline and Aubree Bennett also scored in a Section 3-4A win over North Hills (2-7, 0-4).

Plum 5, Indiana 0 – Emily Grubich had a hat trick and Ali Joyce and Gianna Revetta added a goal apiece for Plum (6-0, 5-0) in a Section 4-3A win over Indiana (2-5-1, 2-2-1).

Seneca Valley 1, North Allegheny 0 – Karly Majesky scored the decisive goal to lead Seneca Valley (6-2, 4-0) past North Allegheny (5-3, 2-2) in Section 3-4A.

Seton LaSalle 11, Bishop Canevin 0 – Eleven players scored goals and Regan Mazur and Nancy Rose Delien combined on the shutout for Seton LaSalle (4-1-2, 4-0-1) in a Section 3-A win over Bishop Canevin (2-5, 2-3). Goal scorers were Torri Carter, Nancy Rose Delien, Aubrey Satsuta , Anna Porter, Sophia Samson, Kendall DeMarino, Sydney Morgan, Elizabeth Sokos, Regan Mazur, Riley Haizlip and Angelina McGrath.

South Park 5, McGuffey 2 – Ella Voyten and Alicia Riberich had two goals apiece and Taylor Vargo also scored for South Park (5-4, 5-0) in a Section 1-2A win over McGuffey (4-3, 2-3).

Springdale 10, Jeannette 0 – Bri Ross had two goals and four assists and Tessa Derringer also scored twice to lead Springdale (6-0, 5-0) past Jeannette (0-4, 0-4) in Section 4-A. Other Dynamos goal scorers were Molly Hurley, Genevieve Conklin, Ainsley Wade, Addie Richards, Cara Leahy and Lacey Shondeck. Brooke Taliani dished out three assists.

Upper St. Clair 9, Connellsville 0 – Sierra Dupre and Penelope Walker scored two goals apiece and Valentina Sobarzo, Callie Roberts, Meredith Huzjak, Abby Mascaro and Sophia Teklinski added a goal each for Upper St. Clair (5-1-2, 2-0-2) in a Section 2-4A win over Connellsville (4-6, 0-4).

Waynesburg 5, Brownsville 0 – Rylei Rastoka, Kolbi Rastoka, Bree Clutter, Emily Rafferty and Izzy Talpas scored a goal apiece for Waynesburg (6-1, 3-1) in a Section 2-A win over Brownsville (0-6-1, 0-3-1).

Yough 7, Ligonier Valley 0 – Gionna Piontka had a pair of goals and Brooke Wieland, Mya Broadwater, Leah Slavick, Kate Slavick and Britany Baumeister also scored for Yough (6-3, 2-2) in a Section 4-2A win over Ligonier Valley (1-5, 0-3). Carly Fitzgibbons recorded the shutout.

Boys soccer

North Catholic 12, Leechburg 0 – Arthur Mendonca scored a hat trick and Jackson Schlegel and Shane Schollaert each had a goal and two assists to lead North Catholic (7-2, 6-1) to a Section 1-2A win over Leechburg (1-8, 1-5).

OLSH 4, Carlynton 2 – Seth Therrien, Aaron Callahan, Chad Minton and Owen Monzer scored for OLSH (6-0, 4-0) in a Section 3-A win. Connor Hart and Hamza Alezzo scored for Carlynton (6-3, 3-1).

Plum 6, Montour 0 – Gage Adinolfi scored twice and Brady McLaughlin and Chase Eber combined on the shutout to lead Plum (6-0-2) to a nonsection win over Montour (6-4). Eli Westchak, Austin Kolankowski, Zach Carnahan and Chris Taylor also scored for the Mustangs.

South Side 5, Ellwood City 0 – Nate Ashcroft, Logan Leatherman, Caden Cusato, Luke Henke and Darius Simmons scored for South Side (2-5) in a nonsection win over Ellwood City (0-7).

Field hockey

Penn-Trafford 2, Latrobe 0 – Brooke Bauer scored both goals and Emma Chamberlin recorded an assist for Penn-Trafford in a Class 2A win.

Pine-Richland 7, Fox Chapel 0 – Georgia Rottinghaus scored a hat trick to power Pine-Richland to a nonsection win.

Girls tennis

Bethel Park 5, Chartiers Valley 0 – Kiera Ross won a tight two-set match at No. 3 singles to help Bethel Park to a Section 4-3A win. Singles players Cami Fisher and Mackenzie Smock and the doubles teams of Julia Gobbie/Cassie Sierka and Amelia Lancet/Sara Walters also won in straight sets for the Black Hawks.

Quaker Valley 5, Keystone Oaks 0 – Kirsten Close, Avery Allan and the doubles team of Parker Barnes and Kate Miller won their matches without dropping a game to lead Quaker Valley to a Section 5-2A win. Livia Jobbins and the team of Hannah Stein and Jane Lenhard also won in straight sets for the Quakers.

Girls volleyball

Albert Gallatin 3, Carmichaels 2 – Leah Myers had 11 kills, five digs and five aces, Mia Myers recorded eight kills and 19 assists, and Mya Glisan had nine kills as Albert Gallatin dropped the first two sets and rallied for a nonsection win.

Frazier 3, Belle Vernon 0 – Addison Schultz had a team-best 15 kills, Gracen Hartman dished out 24 assists and Addison Hiles recorded 17 digs to lead Frazier to a nonsection win. Allie Monack added nine kills for the Commodores.

Ligonier Valley 3, East Allegheny 0 – Marlee Miller had 24 service points, including 18 in a row in the second set, to lead Ligonier Valley to a nonsection win. She had 15 aces and six kills. Kya Hegan had 14 service points and 11 assists, Rylee Monticue had four kills and six assists, and and Lacy Sosko added four kills.

Mapletown 3, Bentworth 2 – Treslee Weston had a team-high 11 kills and Marley Shifflet added 10 digs and 12 assists as Mapletown rallied from two sets down for a nonsection win. Leah Williamson recorded 10 digs and 10 assists, Marley Seward had nine digs and Miranda Fox added four blocks and three kills for the Maples.

South Allegheny 3, Elizabeth Forward 2 – Ally Chizmar had nine kills and five aces and Regan McBeth contributed nine kills and four aces to help South Allegheny to a nonsection win.

St. Joseph 3, Bishop Canevin 0 – Kate Giannetta had eight kills, Jillian Bloch added 33 digs, Veronica McCarthy contributed 22 digs and five kills, and Kenzie Jones served up six aces to lead St. Joseph to a nonsection win.
