High school roundup for Sept. 19, 2018: Oakland Catholic girls stay unbeaten in Section 3

After four straight shutouts, the Oakland Catholic girls soccer team finally allowed a goal, ending a 384-minute shutout streak.

It didn’t slow down the Eagles, though, as No. 4 Oakland Catholic defeated Woodland Hills, 5-1, in a Section 3-3A girls soccer game Wednesday afternoon.

Hannah Henn scored three times, and Tori Calhoun and Anna Sproule added goals for Oakland Catholic (6-1, 5-0).

Canon-McMillan 5, Mt. Lebanon 0 — Annabel Thomas had three goals as Canon-McMillan (4-2-1, 3-2-1) won in Section 2-4A.

Moon 2, Upper St. Clair 1 — Chloe Kuminkoski scored with 18 minutes left to give No. 5 Moon (5-1-1, 4-1-1) a Section 2-4A victory. Kylie Evans also scored for the Tigers.

Peters Township 9, Baldwin 1 — Regan Lavigna had three goals and Hannah Stuck had two goals and two assists as No. 1 Peters Township (7-1, 5-1) won in Section 2-4A.

Hampton 3, Gateway 1 — Logan Nicholas, Courtney Coholich and Laci McLaughlin all scored for Hampton (5-2, 4-1) in a Section 1-3A win.

Ringgold 3, Uniontown 0 — Johnna Mayer, Moe Rosensteel and Faith Martin scored for Ringgold (3-4, 3-2) in a Section 2-3A win.

South Fayette 7, Central Valley 1 — In Section 4-3A, Rachel Weis and Sara Meindl each scored twice to guide South Fayette (5-2, 3-2) to victory.

Waynesburg 5, South Allegheny 0 — Bailey Fudala, Rhea Kijowski, Callie Gibson, Brenna Benke and Regan Carlson scored as No. 2 Waynesburg (5-2, 4-1) won in Section 3-2A.

Bentworth 2, Chartiers-Houston 1 — Jocelyn Timlin had two goals to lead No. 4 Bentworth (6-1, 4-0) to a Section 2-A win.

Freedom 9, Mohawk 1 — Jaden Sharpless had four goals to guide No. 1 Freedom (5-0, 5-0) to a win in Section 3-A.

OLSH 3, Riverside 2 — Francesca Taylor had three goals as OLSH (4-3, 3-2) won in Section 3-A.

Seton LaSalle 4, Carlynton 1 — Vanessa Peretin had two goals to lead Seton LaSalle (3-3-1, 3-1-1) to a Section 4-A win.

Penn-Trafford 6, Latrobe 0 — Malia Kearns netted a hat trick to lead the Warriors to a Section 3-4A win.

Kiley Dugan, Gina Sarnelli and Sarah Nguyen also scored. Alexis Garia, Jordan Lawrence, Sarnelli, Dugan and Nguyen all had assists for the Warriors (5-1, 5-0), who have outscored their past five opponents 32-0.

Megan Giesey earned the shutout.

Connellsville 5, Hempfield 0 — Callie Cunningham scored twice, and Mary Kate Lape, Madison Shoemaker and Talbot Maruca also scored as Connellsville (5-2, 3-2) shut out Hempfield (2-3, 2-3) in Section 3-4A.

Norwin 11, Penn Hills 0 — Paloma Swankler had three goals and Abby Bartos tallied two goals as No. 2 Norwin (6-1, 5-0) won in Section 3-4A.

Liz Waszkiewicz and Riley Morningstar combined for the shutout.

Franklin Regional 3, Knoch 0 — Victoria Rothrauff scored twice and Sydney Caldwell earned the shutout as Franklin Regional (3-4, 2-4) won in Section 1-3A.

Belle Vernon 3, Elizabeth Forward 0 — Izzy Laurita, Morgan Einodshofer and Jillian Butchki scored to lead Belle Vernon (5-1, 4-0) to a Section 2-3A win.

Yough 5, Derrry 0 — Sara Krofcheck notched the shutout, and Justine Appolonia scored twice to lead Yough (4-2, 3-2) to a Section 3-2A victory over Derry (1-4, 1-3. Hannah Biros, Hadley Sleith and Mary Zipfel also scored for the Cougars.

South Park 2, Mt. Pleasant 0 — In Section 3-2A, Haleigh Finale and Nicole Clydesdale scored for No. 1 South Park (7-1, 6-0) in a victory over Mt. Pleasant (4-4, 2-4).

Springdale 8, Jeannette 0 — Sydnei Henley had three goals and Jade Vrabel added two as Springdale (1-2, 1-1) beat Jeannette (0-4, 0-3) in Section 1-A.

Greensburg Central Catholic 12, Riverview 1 — Tatum Gretz scored three times to guide No. 2 Greensburg Central Catholic (3-0, 3-0) to a Section 1-A victory.

Sam Felder and Jess Nemeth added two goals for the Centurions.

Deer Lakes 6, Apollo-Ridge 1 — Lily Litrun scored a hat trick, and Madeline Boulos added two goals and an assist for the Lancers, who are fifth this week in the Tribune-Review rankings.

Nina Lafko added a goal for Deer Lakes (7-1, 5-0). Abigail Boulos tallied three assists, and goalkeeper Gabby Weber made one save.

Apollo-Ridge’s Emily Bonelli scored on a Haley Usko assist, and keeper Maddy Galinac had 14 saves for the Vikings (2-1-1, 1-1-1).

Springdale 8, Jeannette 0 — Sydnei Henley had a hat trick and an assist to help Springdale (1-2, 1-1) cruise to a Section 1-A win over Jeannette (0-4, 0-3). Jade Vrabel scored twice, while Domninique Knauer, Lilly Iadicicco and Isabella Walsh had a goal apiece. Miranda Shock and Morgan Blanchflower recorded two assists each.

Plum 4, West Mifflin 0 — Gina Proviano had a pair of goals for Plum (6-1, 4-1) in a Section 3-AAA win at West Mifflin (0-9, 0-5). Hannah Odom and Grace Podobnik scored a goal apiece.

Mars 5, Kiski Area 0 — Emily Orris and Kira Brown combined for 10 saves in net, but Class 3A No. 3 Kiski Area (5-2, 5-1) fell against No. 1 Mars (5-0, 5-0) in Section 1 play. Mars has not allowed a goal all season and has outscored its opponents 30-0.

Boys soccer

Greensburg Central Catholic 13, Jeannette 0 — Luke Mort scored four goals and Sean Gargan added three as No. 4 Greensburg Central Catholic (5-1, 5-0) won in Section 2-A. Nate Ward added two goals in the win.

Derry 5, Ligonier Valley 2 — Derry scored five unanswered goals to earn a nonsection victory. Christian Bartlebaugh, Antonio Kantor (2), Ed Darbous and Damian Morales scored for the Trojans (2-3).
