High school roundup for Sept. 2, 2023: Antonio Laure powers Rochester past OLSH

Antonio Laure ran for three touchdowns, including a 37-yarder in the first quarter, as Rochester took care of OLSH, 36-12, in a nonconference game Saturday night.
Carter Mason had an 85-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the win for the Rams (1-0), and Felipe Gomes-Castilho made a 40-yard field goal before halftime.
Vann Kavals hit Ethan Davis-Gardner for a pair of touchdowns, an 8-yarder and a 17-yarder, for the Chargers (1-1).
Shenango 21, Western Beaver 15 — Jakob Kamerer ran for 36 yards and three short touchdowns as Class A Shenango (1-1) defeated Class 2A Western Beaver (0-2) despite being outgained, 258-120. A.J. Ferilla intercepted two passes for Shenango’s defense. Jaivin Peel threw for 174 yards for Western Beaver while Tyson Florence ran for 95 yards and both Golden Beavers touchdowns.
Boys soccer
Fayette County Coaches Association tournament – Bentworth (5-0) had a successful day, winning a pair of games. Ryan Moessner and Ryan Colbert had two goals each in a 7-0 win over Washington. Colbert and John Scott scored in a 2-0 win over Albert Gallatin.
Laurel Highlands (2-2) also had an undefeated day, beating Beth-Center and Brownsville. Uniontown (2-2), Albert Gallatin (2-2) and Beth-Center (2-2) split a pair of games. Washington (1-4) and Brownsville (0-4) went 0-2.
In Beth-Center’s 4-0 win over Uniontown, Joey Rodriguez netted a pair of goals and Parker Amos and Reiner King each scored once.
‘Lopes Cup – Host Avonworth (2-1) beat St. Joseph (0-2), 7-0, and Mercyhurst Prep defeated Greensburg Central Catholic (1-2), 5-1. The winners will meet in the championship game at 6 p.m. Sunday. The consolation game is set for 4 p.m.
Paul Sasko Kickoff Classic – William Gillott and Kasey Stanton had two goals apiece and Dylan Shallenberger also scored to lead Connellsville (1-2) past California at Belle Vernon (1-2). Dylan Klinger had two goals and Gage Patterson also scored to lead Charleroi (3-0) to a 3-2 comeback win over the host Leopards (2-1).
Ringgold 4, Ambridge 2 — Nick Evans scored two goals to lead Ringgold (3-0) to the nonsection win over Ambridge (0-5). Owen Haywood converted a penalty for the Rams.
South Fayette 3, West Allegheny 2 – Nathan Belculfine scored twice and Ryan Bradley added a goal to help South Fayette (3-0, 3-0) slip by West Allegheny (1-4, 1-2) in Section 2-3A.
Girls soccer
Fayette County Coaches Association tournament – Waynesburg (3-1) scored a pair of victories. Brynn Kirby, Rylei Rastoka and Lake Litwinovich scored in a 3-1 win over Laurel Highlands, and Ella Miller recorded a hat trick and an assist in a 6-0 victory over Uniontown.
Albert Gallatin (1-1), Bentworth (2-2), Laurel Highlands (3-1) and Uniontown (1-2-1) went 1-1. Brownsville (0-3) went 0-2.
Freeport tournament – Camryn Woods had two goals to lead Freeport (2-0) to a 6-0 shutout of Steel Valley (0-5) at the Freeport Tournament. Julian Bonner scored for Deer Lakes (0-2-1) in a 1-1 draw with Central Valley (1-1-1).
‘Lopes Cup – In a pair of games tied 1-1 after regulation with the advancing team decided on penalty kicks, Erie Cathedral Prep got past host Avonworth (3-0-1) and Bethel Park (1-1-1) moved past South Fayette (1-2-1). The consolation game is set for noon Sunday with the championship game to follow at 2 p.m.
Moe Rosensteel Kickoff Classic – Natalie Lamenza, Aubrey Little and Anna Kondos scored for Thomas Jefferson (3-1) in a 3-2 victory over Franklin Regional (2-1) at Norwin. Elizzabeth Wilson scored two goals to lead Ringgold (2-1-1) to a 3-0 win over Hickory. Miranda Santina added a goal and assist.
Paul Sasko Kickoff Classic – Addison Bell had the game’s only goal on an assist from Camryn Kunz while Ashley Dudzik picked up the shutout in goal as Kiski Area (2-1) picked up a 1-0 win over Connellsville (2-2) in Belle Vernon. In the other game, Charleroi (3-0) topped the host Leopards (0-3) by a 3-1 score.
Chartiers-Houston 4, Trinity 1 – Ava Capozzi, Ali Wingard, Mia Reddix and Amelia Brose had a goal apiece for the Bucs (4-1) in a nonsection win. Cassidy Arthur scored for Trinity (0-3).
Moon 2, Mt. Pleasant 0 — Lilly Snyder and Addy Jacoby scored a Moon (3-0) shut out Mt. Pleasant (1-2) in nonsection play.
Cross country
Marty Uher Invitational – Drew Griffith finished first in a time of 12:25.6 to lead Butler to the team title in the boys Class AAA cross country race at Cal (Pa.). In the AA/A boys race, Freeport’s Michael Braun took first and Beaver won the team title behind second-place finisher Elijah Bechdel. Upper St. Clair’s Meredith Rhodes won the girls AAA race, and Riverside’s Lexi Fluharty finished first in Class AA/A. Gracie Plastino tools second to lead North Catholid to the AA/A girls team title.
Gateway Invitational – Ethan Vaughan won the boys race with a time of 17:09 and Clara Kelley finished third in the girls race as Fox Chapel swept the boys and girls team titles. Freshman Caroline Shirley was the girls champ in a time of 20:54.35, leading the Panthers to a third-place finish in the team race. Bethel Park’s Jenna Lang was second. In the boys race, Plum’s Gabriel Powell was second, followed by Kefimba Cisse of Gateway on his home course.
