High school roundup for Sept. 2, 2025: Fox Chapel, Pine-Richland score key nonsection wins

Nicolas Squeglia netted a pair of goals to lead Class 4A No. 2 Fox Chapel to a 3-2 win over Class 2A No. 2 Deer Lakes in nonsection boys soccer Tuesday.
Rocco Didomenico also scored for the Foxes (2-1). Jacob Orseno scored both goals for the Lancers (3-1).
Pine-Richland 1, Mars 0 – Nico DeJesus scored and Jackson Dutton preserved the shutout for Pine-Richland (3-1-1) in a nonsection win over Mars (2-2-1).
Allderdice 3, Chartiers Valley 1 – Ethan Voight-Cherna, Santiago Carrillo and Julien Dixon-Webster scored to lead Allderdice (3-2) to a nonsection win over Chartiers Valley (1-1).
Beaver 5, Riverside 1 – Anthony Furda had a goal and three assists to lead Beaver (3-0, 3-0) past Riverside (0-3, 0-2) in Section 2-2A. Zach Orend, Seth Kullen, Hudson Vann and Shane Ebbitt also scored for the Bobcats.
Belle Vernon 1, Mt. Pleasant 0 – Jesse Sobczak scored the decisive goal in the first half, leading Belle Vernon (3-2-1) to a nonsection victory over Mt. Pleasant (3-1).
Bentworth 4, Elizabeth Forward 0 – Ryan Moessner had two goals and two assists, including the 100th goal of his career, to lead Bentworth (4-0) to a nonsection win over Elizabeth Forward (1-3). Adam Moessner and Austin Hollier added a goal apiece for the Bearcats.
Beth-Center 5, Waynesburg 2 – Parker Amos had a hat trick and Nekoda Bundy and Wyatt Pash also scored to lead Beth-Center (3-1) to a nonsection win over Waynesburg (0-2-1).
Blackhawk 8, Leechburg 0 – Max Sprinker collected three goals and an assist and Will Brown and Trace Boyde scored twice each to help Blackhawk (1-4) to a nonsection win over Leechburg (0-4). Justin Miles had a goal and three assists and Boyde and Macklin Cantwell combined on the shutout for the Cougars.
Butler 2, West Mifflin 1 (OT) – Noah Ernst scored the game winner, Cullin Forbes netted the first goal and Jude Perhacs assisted on both as Butler (2-1) beat West Mifflin (1-2-1) in a nonsection match. Zaim Sharafee scored for the Titans.
Franklin Regional 2, Kiski Area 0 – Cruise Lamanna and Ian Johns filled the net as Franklin Regional (4-0) beat Kiski Area (1-2) in a nonsection match.
Freeport 4, Armstrong 1 – Ryan Sutara had a hat trick and Carson Rowley had a goal for Freeport (3-1) in a nonsection win. Finn Kidder scored for Armstrong (2-2).
Hempfield 11, Derry 1 – Braden Crowe scored four goals and Isaac Pugliese and Tyler Gilpin added two goals apiece to lead Hempfield (1-3) to a nonsection win over Derry (0-2-1). Anton Weidinger, Sawyer Leuthold and Landon Angulo also added a goal apiece for the Spartans.
Jeannette 3, Brentwood 0 – McAlister Steele scored twice off free kicks and Zion Harper added a goal with an assist from Tsarr Detar as Jeannette (2-2) defeated Brentwood (2-2) in a nonsection match.
McGuffey 2, Charleroi 1 – Ben Piatt scored the game-winner in the second half and Jaiden Newton opened the scoring in the first half for McGuffey (5-0) in a nonsection win. Adolph Noel scored for Charleroi (3-1).
Mt. Lebanon 2, South Fayette 1 – Ignatios Darakos and Brady Lowe scored to help Mt. Lebanon (4-1) to a nonsection victory over South Fayette (1-2).
Riverview 6, Burrell 4 – Freshman Greg Morse collected two goals and four assists to power Riverview (2-2) to a nonsection win. Liam Ulrich and Eben Ulrich each had a goal and an assist and Dennis Underwood and Kyle Schuetz also scored for the Raiders. Levi Blakelock scored twice, Vin Guerrini had a goal and an assist and Kooper Luffy also scored for Burrell (2-1).
Seton LaSalle 6, Winchester Thurston 2 – Tyler Kovalcik had a hat trick to lead Seton LaSalle (4-0) to a nonsection win over Winchester Thurston (0-4). Darius Norkevicus added two goals and Mason Foster also scored for the Rebels.
Southmoreland 2, Ligonier Valley 1 – Jack Smith scored both goals to power Southmoreland (1-3) to a nonsection win over Ligonier Valley (0-3).
Trinity Christian 13, Brownsville 1 – Cameron Wright scored five goals and Judah Schafer added three to power Trinity Christian (1-2) to a nonsection win over Brownsville (1-4).

Ambridge 2, Freedom 1 – Norah Marchionda and Kaylee Kerr scored to lead Ambridge (2-1) past Freedom (1-2) in a nonsection win.
Fox Chapel 7, Penn Hills 0 – Emily McKee scored two goals for Fox Chapel (3-0, 2-0) in a Section 1-3A win over Penn Hills (0-2, 0-2).
Keystone Oaks 5, Southmoreland 1 – Aly Simon had a hat trick and Bailey Barkley and Braidy Lugaila had a goal apiece to lead Keystone Oaks (3-2) to a nonsection win over Southmoreland (1-2-1).
Mohawk 9, Sharpsville 0 – Audrina Cox had a hat trick and Gabby Paladino had three assists for Mohawk (1-2) in a nonsection win over Sharpsville.
Girls volleyball
Beaver 3, Eden Christian 0 – Kayden Blinn had 22 assists, three kills, seven digs and three aces to lead Beaver (2-0) to a nonsection win over Eden Christian (2-1). Kailyn Connelly had nine kills, Aubrey Bumblis added 13 digs and Jaedyn Brown had five kills, eight digs and three aces for the Bobcats.
Bishop Canevin 3, Beaver County Christian 2 – Samantha Bittner collected 13 kills, 12 digs and three aces to lead Bishop Canevin (1-2) to a reverse sweep in a nonsection match against Beaver County Christian (0-1). Macie McClain added 10 kills, Ava Washington had 28 assists, 22 digs and four aces, and Olivia Maida finished with six kills, seven aces and 20 digs for the Crusaders.
Brownsville 3, McGuffey 1 – Skyler Gates had 25 kills and seven blocks and Ari Johnson added 11 assists and 10 digs to send Brownsville (3-0, 1-0) to a Section 3-2A win over McGuffey (1-1, 0-1). Kenzie Adams dished out 16 assists and Ashley Evanchak had 20 digs for the Falcons.
Hampton 3, Penn-Trafford 0 – Marin Katona-Bock had nine kills and 13 digs to lead Hampton (1-1) to a nonsection win over Penn-Trafford (2-1). Katie Christy had eight kills, Emily Maloy had 21 digs and Lilly Mucsinski had 21 assists for the Talbots.
Leechburg 3, Geibel Catholic 0 – Addie Zanotto had five kills and 11 aces, Jaida Skwirut added two kills and seven aces and Abi Rollinger finished with two kills and five aces for Leechburg (1-2) in a nonsection win over Geibel Catholic (1-3).
South Allegheny 3, Carlynton 1 – Ally Chizmar collected 10 aces and 10 kills to lead South Allegheny (2-1, 1-0) to a Section 2-2A win over Carlynton (0-3, 0-1). Regan McBeth finished with 15 kills and Ava Brown had six kills and two aces.
St. Joseph 3, Highlands 0 – Kate Giannetta had 19 kills, 37 digs and two aces to lead St. Joseph (1-1) to a nonsection win over Highlands (2-1). Kenzie Jones added 11 kills and Jillian Bloch recorded 33 digs for the Spartans.
Field hockey
Ellis School 5, Oakland Catholic 1 – Kate Habershaw scored two goals and assisted on another to lead Ellis School past Oakland Catholic in Class A.
Hempfield 3, Norwin 2 – Teagan Zola, Maddie Domasky and Olivia Eiseman scored to help Hempfield to a Class 3A win over Norwin.
Penn-Trafford 2, Latrobe 1 – Mallory Bachar scored both goals to power Penn-Trafford to a Class 2A win. Ryanne Lehman scored for Latrobe.
