High school roundup for Sept. 20, 2025: Aaron Walsh leads Chartiers-Houston to dramatic win

Aaron Walsh had touchdown runs of 12 and 50 yards and hit Dominic Andreolli for the two-point conversion that ended up being the difference in the game as Chartiers-Houston defeated Burgettstown, 14-12, in the Class A Black Hills Conference on Saturday.

Walsh’s 50-yard run and Andreolli’s catch gave the Bucs (3-2, 1-1) a 14-6 lead with 10:10 to go. Burgettstown (1-3, 0-2) scored on a 22-yard pass from Blake Neal to Bryce Speer with 1:53 to play, but Chartiers-Houston’s Austin Mruk made the tackle on the two-point conversion attempt, a run by Neal, to preserve the lead for Chartiers-Houston.

Colton County also scored for the Blue Devils on a 1-yard run in the second quarter.

Kiski Prep 27, Peddie School 14 – Jaivin Peel completed 8 of 10 passes for 140 yards, including an 87-yard scoring strike to Elijah White, to lead Kiski School (2-2). The running back committee of Max McMillan, Levi Porter and Mason Jones combined for 166 rushing yards. McMillan scored two touchdowns and Porter scored one.

Boys soccer

Beth-Center 8, Preston (W.Va.) 0 – Parker Amos and Nekoda Bundy had three goals and three assists each as Beth-Center (7-2) shut out Preston (W.Va.) in a nonsection game.

Gateway 9, Kiski Area 0 – In nonsection play, Cam Simon, Ryan Helman and Conrad Wierzchowski each scored two goals as Gateway (2-7) downed Kiski Area (2-7). Everett Kuehn, Grant Karstetter and Seungkye Park also scored for the Gators.

Jeannette 2, Valley 1 – Jamen Kyte had two goals to lead Jeannette (3-7) to the nonsection win against Valley (0-8-1). Tsarr Detar and McAlister Steele had assists for the Jayhawks.

Mt. Lebanon 1, Bethel Park 1 (OT) – Liam Frey scored for Mt. Lebanon (8-2-1) and Xavier Jackson scored for Bethel Park (6-1-2) in a nonsection draw.

Springdale 10, Burrell 0 – Mason Mattie had three goals and two assists and Alex Wylly collected three goals and an assist to lead Springdale (6-2) to a nonsection win over Burrell (2-8). Emir Halimic had a goal and an assist, Cole Hilbert, Aidan Nevel-Brown and Travis Ewing also scored and Brennan Mattie had two assists for the Dynamos.

Girls soccer

Baldwin 3, Hempfield 1 – Gianna Harkins, Kelsey Meyer and Reagan Aston-Reese scored to lead Baldwin (1-6-1) to a nonconference win. Jiana Patterson scored her 50th career goal for Hempfield (1-9).

Burrell 7, Springdale 0 – Makiah Buchak had one goal and two assists as Burrell (6-2-1) shut out Springdale (5-1-1) in a nonsection game. McKenna Miller, Parker Moore, Katie Koehler, Leah Waldsmith, Allie McMahon and Chase Coury also scored and Casey Brancato recorded the shutout for the Bucs.

Central Valley 1, Blackhawk 0 – Aubrey Grater scored the 50th career goal off of an assist from Reagan Patten in overtime to give Central Valley (5-2-1) the nonsection win against Blackhawk (1-5-2).

Moon 3, Thomas Jefferson 1 – In nonsection play, Anna Palm, Kendall Dydek and Ally D’Alesio scored goals as Moon (8-1) beat Thomas Jefferson (5-5).

Penn-Trafford 5, Mt. Pleasant 2 – Ellie Lebe had two goals and an assist and Tori Yurt also scored twice to send Penn-Trafford (5-3-1) to a nonsection win. Riley McIntosh scored and Aurelia Solomon had two assists for the Warriors. Morgan Gesinski scored twice for Mt. Pleasant (7-1-1).

Quaker Valley 2, Oakland Catholic 0 – Lily Baker and Amma Currier scored goals and Ava Hajok recorded the shutout as Quaker Valley (8-1) beat Oakland Catholic (5-5) in nonsection play.

Cross country

PIAA Foundation Meet – Annie Czajkowski won the Class 3A race and three of her teammates finished in the top 10 to lead Norwin to the team title at the Hershey Parkview course.

Czajkowski finished in 18:59.1, almost seven seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Anna Dansak (fifth), Jillian Ryba (ninth) and Emily Dansak (10th) also finished in the top 10.

Freshman Josephine Lenart (19:42.5) won the Class A race to lead Shady Side Academy to the team title. Teammates Charlotte Barker finished fourth and Rhyley Bendel was 16th.

WPIAL runners took the top two spots in the Class 2A boys race with Quaker Valley’s Jonah Montagnese winning (16:13.1) and North Catholic’s Jack Steineman (16:29.9) taking second.
