High school roundup for Sept. 23, 2025: North Allegheny wins 5-set showdown for 1st place

Molly Robertson had 23 kills and 10 digs to lead North Allegheny to a 3-2 victory over North Catholic (5-2, 4-1) in a five-set thriller for first place in Section 2-4A girls volleyball Tuesday.
The Tigers won by set scores of 25-20, 25-23, 18-25, 23-25 and 18-16. Alicia Mokube recorded 20 kills, Keely McMahon-Regan finished with 51 assists and Reagan Riordan had 27 digs for North Allegheny (6-2, 5-0).
Beaver 3, Blackhawk 0 – Kailyn Connelly had 13 kills, Kayden Blinn recorded 30 assists and four aces and Aubrey Bumblis had 15 digs to lead Beaver (9-0, 5-0) past Blackhawk (6-5, 3-2) in Section 4-3A. Jaedyn Brown had seven kills and three aces, Lanie Malobabich added seven kills and four blocks and Anna Vinopal served up four aces for the Bobcats.
Bentworth 3, Burgettstown 2 – Addison Pysh had 13 kills, Nora Lindley added 12 and Sofia Gaussa had seven to lead Bentworth (5-5, 2-5) past Burgettstown (3-7, 1-6) in Section 3-2A. Zoie McDonald finished with 28 assists and five aces for the Bearcats.
Brownsville 3, Chartiers-Houston 0 – Skyler Gates had 10 kills and 12 blocks, Aijanae Foster added 10 kills and Ashley Evanchak had 15 digs for Brownsville (9-1, 6-1) in a Section 3-2A win over Chartiers-Houston (7-3, 5-1).
Greensburg Salem 3, Indiana 2 – Patty Redinger had 13 kills, Bella Dinkel dished out 24 assists, Maria Dinkel finished with 32 digs and Vienna Jevicky had nine blocks as Greensburg Salem (9-0, 6-0) defeated Indiana (8-2, 5-1) in five sets in a matchup of the top two teams in Section 5-3A.
Hempfield 3, Latrobe 0 – Ella Berkebile had 12 kills, Claire Mitchell added eight kills and Jillian Sowers had 17 digs for Hempfield (6-2, 4-1) in a Section 3-4A win over Latrobe (5-3, 2-3).
Laurel Highlands 3, Ringgold 1 – Diondra Brown had nine kills and 24 digs, Esther Waqanivalu added nine kills and eight blocks and Sara Reed had 28 assists and 19 digs to lead Laurel Highlands (6-3, 5-1) past Ringgold (5-3, 3-3) in Section 3-3A.
Mapletown 3, Avella 0 – Rowan Eisiminger had 12 kills, three aces and six digs, Marley Shiflett dished out 25 assists and Makenna Lotspeich finished with seven digs to lead Mapletown (4-6, 2-3) past Avella (0-10, 0-5) in Section 3-A. Treslee Weston added eight kills for the Maples.
McKeesport 3, Gateway 2 – Sunny Harper had seven kills, Harmony Morris finished with seven blocks and Luciana Lewis served up six aces to lead McKeesport (3-5, 1-5) past Gateway (1-6, 1-5) in Section 5-3A.
Neshannock 3, Mohawk 2 – Marika Measel had 17 kills, Liv Hoover added 10 kills and six blocks and Rian Owens contributed 40 assists and seven blocks to lead Neshannock (7-1, 5-1) past Mohawk (6-3, 4-2) in a five-set battle for first place in Section 4-2A. Marli McBride had 12 kills and 23 digs and Macey Tanner added 15 assists and 10 digs for the Warriors.
South Allegheny 3, East Allegheny 0 – Regan McBeth produced 10 kills while Violet Pastories and Bailey DeCecco each had five aces to lead South Allegheny (9-3, 6-2) in a Section 2-2A sweep of East Allegheny (1-9, 1-6).
Boys soccer
Allderdice 6, West Mifflin 0 – Michael Bishop led the way with two goals and Ethan Voight-Cherna, Roman Robnisky, Luca Fuerte, Luke Pena and Levi Marcus added a goal apiece to send Allderdice (6-4) to a nonsection win over West Mifflin (2-7-1).
Avonworth 12, Riverside 0 – Cody Cwynar scored a hat trick to power Avonworth (9-1, 7-1) to a Section 2-2A victory over Riverside (2-8, 2-7). Calder Mahan had a goal and four assists and Alex Hayes, Maks Milojevic and Ethan Szakelyhidi each had a goal and an assist for the Antelopes.
Belle Vernon 2, Uniontown 1 (OT) – Jesse Sobczak scored the overtime winner and Chris Showman also had a goal as Belle Vernon (7-5-1, 5-1) got past Uniontown (3-8, 0-6) in Setion 3-3A.
Bentworth 9, Freedom 1 – Ryan Moessner and Adam Moessner scored four goals apiece and Blake Lusk had one to lead Bentworth (9-0) to a nonsection win over Freedom (2-6-1).
Bethel Park 4, South Fayette 0 – Xavier Jackson three goals and an assist and Youssef Benrabia also scored to help Bethel Park (7-1-2, 7-0-1) past South Fayette (2-7, 2-6) in Section 2-3A.
Burrell 5, Leechburg 1 – Theo Watson had two goals and an assist and Adam Scheftic and Kooper Luffy each collected a goal and an assist to lead Burrell (3-8, 3-5) past Leechburg (0-10-1, 0-7-1) in Section 1-2A. Brody Snyder also scored for the Bucs.
Butler 5, Latrobe 1 – Cullen Forbes tallied a goal and an assist while Jude Perhacs, Colten English, Noah Ernst and Aiden Ansani also scored as Butler (5-6) beat Latrobe (5-5) in a nonsection tilt.
Charleroi 9, Southmoreland 1 – Dylan Klinger had three goals and two assists and Blake Pendo finished with two goals and three assists to send Charleroi (8-2, 7-0) to a Section 4-2A win over Southmoreland (5-6, 3-4). Otis McIntyre had a hat trick and Adolph Noel added a goal and an assist for the Cougars.
Eden Christian 3, Bishop Canevin 0 – Ayden Shattuck scored two goals and Jason Rice added one to lead Eden Christian (4-6) to a nonsection win over Bishop Canevin (2-6).
Elizabeth Forward 6, South Allegheny 1 – Adien Davis scored a hat trick and Bo Hallas, Tucker Ritchie-McCune and Levi George each buried a goal to power Elizabeth Forward (7-4, 6-2) to a Section 3-2A win over South Allegheny (3-8, 2-6).
Hampton 1, Mars 1 – Mason Hall scored to help Hampton (7-1-2, 5-0-2) to a Section 1-3A draw with Mars (6-4-2, 4-1-2).
Highlands 12, Valley 1 – Ryan Maloney racked up five goals and four assists to power Highlands (5-3-1, 4-3-1) past Valley (0-9-1, 0-7-1) in Section 1-2A. Brady Celko scored a hat trick and Dean Besterman had a goal and two assists for the Golden Rams.
Keystone Oaks 9, Ellwood City 2 – Eltay Sagynbekov and Truman Wawrzeniak each scored a brace to lead Keystone Oaks (4-5, 4-5) to a Section 2-2A win against Ellwood City (0-8, 0-7). Owen Bosniak, Drew Rich, Mason Kobistek, Brody Fingers and Gabe Starkey each added a goal for the Eagles.
McGuffey 2, Steel Valley 0 – Ben Piatt and Anson Ward scored for McGuffey (8-3, 5-3) in a Section 3-2A win over Steel Valley (2-8, 1-7).
Montour 5, Blackhawk 0 – Dominic Passaro, Tony Rodriguez, Mitchell Braidic, Dalton Young and Mario Passaro scored a goal apiece for Montour (6-6, 4-3) in a Section 4-3A win over Blackhawk (2-9, 1-6).
Moon 7, Baldwin 0 – Eric Haupt and Hayden Dunn each scored a brace while Vinnnie Munizza, Laercio de Sousa and Eric Hildenbrand added a goal apiece to lead Moon (7-3, 6-0) to a Section 4-3A shutout win over Baldwin (1-9, 1-6).
Mt. Lebanon 3, Chartiers Valley 0 – Benton Thompson scored a pair of goals and Camden Forquer also found the net for Mt. Lebanon (9-2-1) in a nonsection win over Chartiers Valley (4-4).
Mt. Pleasant 6, Brownsville 0 – Tyke Snyder scored a pair of goals and had two assists, Cayden Pickens contributed a goal and an assist while Lukas Showman, Grant Zahrobsky and Bryce Gamble each added a goal as Mt. Pleasant (8-4, 7-1) blanked Brownsville (3-9, 1-7) in Section 4-2A.
North Catholic 2, Deer Lakes 1 – Brody Kennedy and Justin Garvey scored a goal apiece for North Catholic (10-1-1, 8-1) in a Section 1-2A win over Deer Lakes (9-3, 7-1).
OLSH 3, Beth-Center 2 (OT) – Isaac Tarbuck scored the game-winning goal to lift OLSH (8-0) to a nonsection win. Brady Hernandez and Chad Minton scored first-half goals for the Chargers. Nekoda Bundy and Rylan Piper scored for Beth-Center (7-3).
Quaker Valley 2, Beaver 0 – Isaac Williams and Liam Miller scored a goal apiece as Quaker Valley (9-2, 8-1) shutout Beaver (7-2, 7-2) in Section 2-2A.
Ringgold 4, Albert Gallatin 1 – James Lytle scored twice and Mike Stasko and Donovan Fortuna each had a goal and an assist as Ringgold (5-5, 4-4) evened its record with a Section 2-3A win over Albert Gallatin (1-10, 0-8).
Seton LaSalle 11, East Allegheny 0 – Mason Foster tallied a hat trick while Darius Norkevicus and Lucas Fameli each added a brace as Seton LaSalle (10-1, 7-1) cruised to a Section 3-2A victory over East Allegheny (1-7, 1-7). Larry Brown, Sawyer Sisk, Tyler Kovalcik and Anthony Lease each added a goal as Charlie Kicinski kept a clean sheet for the Rebels.
Shaler 2, Kiski Area 1 – Alex Gaetano and Tyler Shaw scored to lift Shaler (7-3, 5-2) past Kiski Area (2-8, 2-5) in Section 1-3A.
Thomas Jefferson 2, Laurel Highlands 1 – Tiago Ochoa and Tyler Surrena scored to boost Thomas Jefferson (10-0-1, 7-0-1) past Laurel Highlands (7-4, 4-4) in Section 2-3A. Cole Radcliffe scored for the Mustangs.
Trinity 8, McKeesport 1 – John Garcia had three goals and three assists and Brady Anderson added two goals and three assists as Trinity (6-4, 6-2) defeated McKeesport (1-7, 1-7) in Section 2-3A. Collin Reihner, Cooper Cincinnati and Noah White each tallied a goal for the Hillers.
Waynesburg 2, Derry 0 – Brendan Cole and Eli Taylor scored to send Waynesburg (3-5-1, 3-4-1) to a Section 4-2A win over Derry (1-8-1, 0-7-1).
West Allegheny 6, Ambridge 1 – Aaron Bouch scored two goals and Milo Kent, Anthony Mimna, Michael Johnson and Colton Yonker added a goal apiece to lead West Allegheny (5-4, 5-2) to a Section 4-3A win over Ambridge (4-6, 2-5).
Girls soccer
Yough 6, Highlands 1 – Leah Slavick scored a hat trick, Daisy Miller added a pair of goals and Kate Slavick also scored to lead Yough (5-5) to a nonsection victory. Alyssa Jameson scored for Highlands (4-5).
Field hockey
North Allegheny 5, Hempfield 0 – Emilia Barreiro, Davia Gross, Audrey Evancho, Kaylee Volk and Addison Burns scored to help North Allegheny (3-4-3, 3-2-1) past Hempfield (2-6, 1-6) in Class 3A.
Cross country
Division I, Section 1 – Anna Dansak (19:03), Jillian Ryba (19:16.20) and Emily Dansak (19:21.70) finished in the top three spots to lead the Norwin girls to the section title. Addison Farrah finished fifth for the Knights. Chesnee Smith (19:28.90) took fourth to lead Hempfield to a second-place finish.
Jonathan Stetchock (16:01.80) won the boys race to lead Hempfield to the team title over second-place Norwin. There were three other Spartans in the top 10: Ryan Ewing (third), Troy Payne (seventh) and Carter Moody (eighth). Benjamin McBride (16:09.70) finished second to lead a Knights contingent that included Owen Rankin (sixth), Declan O’Donnell (ninth) and William Little (10th) in the top 10. Latrobe’s Charlie Heese was fourth.
