High school roundup for Sept. 24, 2025: Ari Beck’s goal stands up as South Park wins nail-biter

Ari Beck scored the winning goal to lift South Park (12-0, 8-0) to a 1-0 victory over Belle Vernon (7-3-1, 5-2-1) in a matchup of the top two teams in the Section 1-2A girls soccer standings Wednesday night.

Armstrong 3, Woodland Hills 1 – Callie Adkins scored all three goals as Armstrong (5-5-1, 3-3) defeated Woodland Hills (0-7, 0-6) in Section 1-4A.

Bentworth 2, Waynesburg 1 – Megan Keturakis and Brielle Dillon scored a goal each as Bentworth (10-1-1, 6-0) defeated Waynesburg (6-3, 3-3) in Section 2-A.

Burrell 11, Valley 0 – Mikalya Coury and Chase Coury each scored twice to pace Burrell (7-2-1, 5-1) in a Section 2-2A win over Valley (0-7, 0-6). Laney Kaczor, Casey Brancato, Taylor Lippert, Carmen Bires, Eva Wilson Adrianna Baronie and Katie Harris each tallied a goal for the Bucs.

Carlynton 5, South Allegheny 0 – Riley Mauro and Bella D’Antonio netted two goals apiece and Emma Arnold also scored for Carlynton (5-3-1, 5-2) in a Section 3-A win over South Allegheny (1-9, 0-7).

Central Valley 2, Beaver 0 – Aubrey Grater scored both goals for Central Valley (6-2-1, 4-1-1) in a shutout win over Beaver (6-6-1, 3-3-1) in Section 3-2A. Reagan Patten assisted both of Grater’s goals.

Chartiers-Houston 2, Beth-Center 0 – Allie Wingard and Grace Littlecott scored a goal apiece as Charters-Houston (5-3-1, 3-2-1) blanked Beth-Center (4-6, 1-5) in Section 2-A.

Deer Lakes 3, Yough 0 – Bri Simonetti scored twice and Cadence Drum had another goal as Deer Lakes (10-1, 5-1) blanked Yough (5-6, 3-3) in Section 4-2A. Mikayla Potter kept a clean sheet for the Lancers.

Fox Chapel 10, Penn Hills 0 – Emily McKee scored two goals and eight other players found the net once to lead Fox Chapel (10-1, 7-0) past Penn Hills (2-8, 1-6) in Section 1-3A.

Franklin Regional 1, Kiski Area 0 – Allyssa Velasquez scored the game-winning goal with less than four minutes to play and Addison Ayres recorded her eighth shutout as Franklin Regional (9-3, 6-2) slipped past Kiski Area (5-4, 5-3) in Section 4-3A.

Freeport 2, Shady Side Academy 1 – Brinley Sullivan and Elena Jenkins each scored for Freeport (8-1, 5-0) in a Section 2-2A win against Shady Side Academy (3-7, 2-4). Camryn Woods and Peyton Los had the assists for the Yellowjackets.

Greensburg Salem 3, Indiana 0 – Madalyn Steel, Kylie Boles and Alicia Willett scored and Abigail Saville was in net for the shutout as Greensburg Salem (5-7, 3-5) blanked Indiana (1-10, 1-6) in Section 4-3A.

Keystone Oaks 2, McGuffey 1 – Aly Simon and Neveah Hamilton each scored a goal as Keystone Oaks (7-6, 6-2) beat McGuffey (3-6, 2-5) in Section 1-2A.

Mars 2, Hampton 0 – Mackenzie Powell and Addison Jacoby each scored a goal to give Mars (8-3, 4-2) a Section 1-3A victory over Hampton (6-4, 3-3).

Montour 6, Chartiers Valley 0 – Irelynn Hobbs recorded a hat trick and Kira Hobbs, Brooklyn Young and Holly Zulka added a goal apiece as Montour (8-2, 6-1) rolled to a Section 2-3A win over Chartiers Valley (3-6-1, 2-4-1).

Moon 5, Blackhawk 0 – Ally D’Alesio, Junie Shaver, Anna Palm, Kendall Dydek and Bella Taylor scored as Moon (9-1, 7-0) shut out Blackhawk (2-6-2, 2-4-2) in Section 2-3A.

Mt. Pleasant 11, Ligonier Valley 0 – Morgan Gesinski scored a hat trick, Addie Cole added a pair of goals and Laurel Rummel preserved the shutout for Mt. Pleasant (9-2-1, 6-0) in a Section 4-2A win over Ligonier Valley (2-8, 1-5). Emma Hatcher, Jaden Kantorik, Izzy Overly, Samantha Hodge, Faith Stewart and Gwen Podolinsky also scored for the Vikings.

North Allegheny 8, North Hills 0 – Rosalia Varlotta and Kieran Shannon scored two goals apiece and Jordan Beemer preserved the shutout as North Allegheny (8-2-2, 3-1-1) beat North Hills (2-7-1, 0-4-1) in Section 3-4A. Meghan Dutkovich, Avery Ruffus, Addison Vrabel and Bella Montgomery also scored for the Tigers.

North Catholic 5, Knoch 0 – Megan Heinbach and Simone Sharpless each had a pair of goals, Reagan Young also scored and Jules Tralongo recorded the shutout for North Catholic (8-3, 4-2) in a Section 2-2A win over Knoch (2-8, 1-5).

Quaker Valley 2, Ambridge 1 (OT) – Hope Waller scored the golden goal in overtime to lift Quaker Valley (10-1, 6-0) past Ambridge (3-6, 1-4) in Section 3-2A. Annabel Miko also scored for the Quakers. Kate McPherson scored off a feed from Abby Smith for the Bridgers.

Peters Township 6, Canon-McMillan 2 – Marina Hajnosz and Brynn Busch each scored twice while Rylie Busch and Katie Froelich also tallied a goal as Peters Township (7-0-2, 5-0) cruised to a Section 2-4A win over Canon-McMillan (4-4-1, 2-3-1). Julia Spergel dished out three assists for Peters.

Pine-Richland 1, Butler 0 (OT) – Molly Baker broke a scoreless tie with the overtime winner and Shea Best was in goal for the shutout as Pine-Richland (10-1-1, 3-1-1) got past Butler (4-5-1, 0-4-1) in Section 3-4A.

Plum 2, Elizabeth Forward 1 – Keirstin Curry scored a goal and had an assist and Ali Joyce buried a goal to lead Plum (9-0, 8-0) to a Section 4-3A win. Caylin Seabol scored for Elizabeth Forward (4-4, 3-4).

Riverview 5, Ellis School 1 – Mary Quinlan netted two goals to lead Riverview (6-1-1, 5-0-1) past Ellis School (2-5, 1-5) in Section 4-A. Mia Murphy, Hannah Hudack and Catie Hoolahan each had one for the Raiders. Sienna Daley and Hudack recorded assists in the win.

Seneca Valley 8, Allderdice 0 – Karly Majeski netted five goals and Cassie Leonard, Sophia Lawryk and Anna Iaquinta also scored to send Seneca Valley (7-2-2) to a Section 2-4A exhibition win over Allderdice (6-5).

Seton LaSalle 8, Bishop Canevin 0 – Seven players scored for Seton LaSalle (8-2, 6-1), led by Sydney Morgan’s hat trick, in a Section 3-A win over Bishop Canevin (1-6, 1-6). Brynlee Robinson, Kendall DeMarino, Lila Pahel, Sophia Samson and Kennedy Bakota each had one goal for the Rebels. Maurah Hoyt had a shutout.

Southmoreland 8, East Allegheny 0 – Ashley Seder scored a hat trick and Hannah Conn added a pair of goals to power Southmoreland (4-6-1, 3-3) to a Section 4-2A victory over East Allegheny (0-8, 0-6). Gia VanDyke, Caiya Brozeki and Hailey Kenney also scored.

South Fayette 7, Oakland Catholic 1 – Gabby Beinecke scored a pair of goals to lead South Fayette (8-1-1, 6-0) to a Section 3-3A win over Oakland Catholic (5-6, 3-3). Mia Deramo, Stella Medvec, Quinn Miller, Emma Ferrari and Silvi Rossi each tacked on a goal for the Lions.

Springdale 8, Apollo-Ridge 0 – Lacey Shondeck had a hat trick and added an assist while Hailey Marchlewski collected two goals and two assists in a Section 4-A win for Springdale (6-1-1, 5-0-1) over Apollo-Ridge (0-5, 0-5). Adele Walters-Vrabel had a goal and an assist, Mia Pesce and Ashlyn Scotece also scored and Addison Crumb and Alexis Chase combined on the shutout.

Trinity 3, Bethel Park 1 – Cassidy Arthur scored two goals 68 seconds apart in the first half and Kamille Behrens added a second-half goal to lead Trinity (2-6-2, 1-6-1) to its first Section 2-3A win of the year against Bethel Park (1-10, 1-6).

Upper St. Clair 4, Baldwin 0 – Natalia Disora scored twice, Callie Roberts and Abby Burke each added a goal and Braidyn Recker recorded the shutout to lead Upper St. Clair (6-2-2, 3-2-1) past Baldwin (1-7-1, 0-5) in Section 2-4A.

West Mifflin 9, Uniontown 0 – Caroline Chelosky and Jada Downs each had four goals while Molly Chelosky added another as West Mifflin (3-8, 0-7) defeated Uniontown (0-10, 0-6) in nonsection play. Downs had three assists, Nesky had two, and both Caroline and Molly Chelosky had one for the Titans.

Boys soccer

Beaver 11, Mohawk 1 – Anthony Furda finished with four goals and Seth Kullen and Kian Playa each scored twice to lead Beaver (8-2, 8-2) to a Section 2-2A win over Mohawk (1-10, 1-9). Ryan Perez, Owen Summerville and Hudson Vann also scored for the Bobcats.

Burrell 2, Valley 1 – Kooper Luffy had a goal and an assist and Theo Watson also scored to lift Burrell (4-8, 4-5) past Valley (0-10-1, 0-8-1) in Section 1-2A.

Neshannock 6, Sharpsville 2 – Zayden Herb scored four goals and Jordan Kosin and Vasili Neofitistis also found the net to lead Neshannock (10-2-1) to a nonsection win.

Girls volleyball

Canon-McMillan 3, Bethel Park 0 – Journee Scott produced 14 kills, Natalie Carr followed with 10 kills and eight digs and Amanda Ciolli also had eight digs to lead Canon-McMillan (7-1, 3-1) to a Section 1-4A win over Bethel Park (2-7, 0-4). Carsen Brown had 23 assists and Katie Carr dished out 12 for the Big Macs.

Mars 3, Seneca Valley 2 – Rylee Wooldridge collected 27 kills and 19 digs, Gabi Weidemann had 46 assists and 25 digs and Cecilia Christy had 10 kills and six blocks as Mars (9-2, 6-0) rallied from an 0-2 deficit to defeat Seneca Valley (5-5, 2-4) in nonsection play. Reese Connelly and Kate Southwell each had 10 kills for the Planets.

Girls tennis

Section 1-2A – The section doubles semifinals will feature two matchups between players from Mt. Pleasant and Valley. Top-seeded Ryleigh Drzal and Danica Trainer of Mt. Pleasant will face Sophie Harclerode and Karrigan Thomey of Valley in one match and Mt. Pleasant’s Bella Fullman and Hannah Shawley will meet Valley’s Lena Fabian and Emma Shirey in the other.

Section 3-2A – Two North Catholic teams reached the section semifinals. Top-seeded Evelyn Marche and Macaria Stall will take on Sophiana Sidikou and Lila Dubefsky of Indiana while Anna Ravotti and Ava Conley will face second-seeded Ariana Barbera and McKenna Restori of Hampton.

Section 4-2A – The top two seeds will meet in the section finals. In the semifinals, No. 1 Madalyn Arrow and Giada Cappabianco of Neshannock outlasted Bella Colatriano and Madison Harper of Lincoln Park in three sets and No. 2 Emma Derringer and Lily Ceriani of Blackhawk advanced over Claire Miloszewski and Elena Philips when the Central Valley duo retired in the second set.

Section 5-2A – The top two seeds, both from Quaker Valley, will meet Thursday for the section doubles title. No. 1 Jane Lenhard and Kate Miller defeated No. 4 Maggie McBride and Allie Swift of Aquinas Academy, 6-0, 6-3, in the semifinals while No. 2 Livia Jobbins and Grace Jadlowiec stopped No. 3 Victoria Sgard and Clara Lukasiak of Sewickley Academy, 6-0, 6-2.
