High school roundup for Sept. 25, 2024: Peters Township defends top spot in section with win over Canon-McMillan

Camryn Klein converted a penalty kick and Milena Gill and Julia Spergel also scored as Peters Township (10-0-1, 5-0-1) strengthened its hold on first place in Section 2-4A girls soccer with a 3-1 win over Canon-McMillan (7-2-1, 3-2-1) on Wednesday.
Ambridge 1, Hopewell 1 – Norah Marchionda scored for Ambridge (5-6-1, 2-4-1) in a Section 3-2A draw with Hopewell (1-6-2, 1-5-1).
Beaver 8, Central Valley 1 – Sydney Chontos scored four times and Mia Furda had a goal and two assists for Beaver (10-0, 6-0) in a Section 3-2A win over Central Valley (4-5, 2-4). Lilia Battalini, Alaina Mollura and Ali Madden also scored and Ana Hahn had two assists for the Bobcats.
Bentworth 1, Waynesburg 0 – Megan Keturakis scored off a pass from Brina Orsatti in the first half as Bentworth (9-1, 4-1) held on to defeat Waynesburg (8-2, 4-2) in Section 2-A.
Bethel Park 9, Trinity 0 – Callee DalBon netted a hat trick and River Hendrych-Bondra and Grace Ferency added a pair of goals for Bethel Park (6-3-2, 4-3-1) in a Section 2-3A victory over Trinity (1-7, 1-7).
Burrell 11, Valley 0 – Kinlee Moore, McKenna Miller and Maggie Nesko each scored two goals as Burrell (7-2-1, 4-2) beat Valley (1-7, 0-5) in Section 2-2A. Makiah Buchak, Leah Waldsmith, Kate Sharbaugh, Lilly Householder and Allie McMahon also scored for the Bucs.
Carlynton 5, South Allegheny 0 – Sophia O’Brien collected two goals and two assists and Gigi Choate added a goal and two assists for Carlynton (8-3, 5-3) in a Section 3-A win over South Allegheny (3-9, 1-6). Riley Mauro and Bella D’Antonio also scored for the Cougars.
Chartiers-Houston 1, Beth-Center 0 – Ava Capozzoli scored and Ella Richey recorded a shutout as Chartiers-Houston (7-2, 5-1) beat Beth-Center (2-6, 1-5) in Section 2-A.
Deer Lakes 1, Yough 0 – Tessa Hollibaugh scored the winning goal, assisted by Josie Buchanan, and Mikayla Potter preserved the shutout for Deer Lakes (7-2-2, 5-1) in a Section 4-2A victory over Yough (7-5, 2-4).
Franklin Regional 2, Kiski Area 1 – Reilly Weaver and Abby Paterline each scored a goal and Brooke Blakley had a pair of assists to lead Franklin Regional (7-5, 6-2) past Kiski Area (5-5, 5-3) in Section 4-3A.
Freeport 2, Shady Side Academy 2 (OT) – Camryn Woods and Elena Jenkins scored for Freeport (7-1-1, 4-1-1) in a Section 2-2A draw. Lucille McCargo and Sarah Kushnir scored for Shady Side Academy (4-6-1, 2-3-1).
Greensburg Central Catholic 7, Jeannette 0 – Ainsleigh Stickle and Sophia Fisher netted a pair of goals each and Addie Vacanti had a goal and an assist for Greensburg Central Catholic (2-4, 2-4) in a Section 4-A win over Jeannette (0-6, 0-6). Ava Fisher and Riley Kerr also scored and Sienna Voetsch dished out two assists.
Greensburg Salem 1, Indiana 0 (OT) – Eden Wilson scored the overtime winner to lift Greensburg Salem (4-7, 2-6) past Indiana (3-7-1, 2-4-1) in Section 4-3A.
Moon 4, Blackhawk 0 – Luren Muhanna, Riley LaFayette, Bella Taylor and Lilly Snyder scored as Moon (9-1, 8-0) rolled to a Section 2-3A win over Blackhawk (4-7, 3-5). Ansilie Romasco kept a clean sheet for the Tigers.
Mt. Pleasant 11, Ligonier Valley 0 – Rylin Bugosh scored four goals, Morgan Gesinski scored a pair and Camryn Kapr, Madelynn Barrick, Gwen Podolinsky, Anna Welsh and Lexis Baker each tallied a goal as Mt. Pleasant (10-1, 6-0) shut out Ligonier Valley (1-8, 0-5) in Section 4-2A.
North Allegheny 3, North Hills 0 – Averie Bierker scored twice, Emma Schupansky added a goal and Margaret Nestor and Jordan Beemer combined on the shutout as North Allegheny (7-5, 4-2) beat North Hills (2-9, 0-6) in Section 3-4A.
Norwin 4, Hempfield 0 – Getting goals from Tatum Casper, Hannah Amantea, Julia Bursick and Delanna Colarusso, Norwin (6-5-1, 4-2) blanked Hempfield (3-8, 1-5) in Section 1-4A.
Plum 3, Elizabeth Forward 0 – Mia Nardo, Gianna Revetta and Serena Carnahan scored and Makenna Anderson and Malayna Smith shared the shutout as Plum (9-1, 8-0) defeated Elizabeth Forward (2-6, 2-5) in Section 4-3A.
Pine-Richland 2, Butler 1 – Molly Baker and Charlie Kline scored to lead Pine-Richland (7-3, 5-1) to a Section 3-4A victory. Lucia Leyland scored for Butler (5-6, 2-4).
Ringgold 4, Charleroi 3 – Emily Bucchianeri scored two goals, including the game winner with 16 seconds left, to boost Ringgold (3-6-1, 2-5-1) past Charleroi (0-9, 0-8) in Section 1-2A. Rihanna Fordham and Bridget Callihan were the other goal scorers for the Rams. Aryanna Chiplasky scored twice and Rhianna Grolan added a goal for the Cougars.
Riverview 2, Ellis School 1 (OT) – Cailey Trosch scored the game-winning goal in overtime and Mary Quinlan also netted a goal to lift Riverview (8-1, 7-1) past Ellis School (4-7, 2-6) in Section 4-A.
Seneca Valley 5, Allderdice 0 – Ashlee Libby scored a pair of goals while Karly Majeski, Cassie Leonard and Gianna Donatucci also scored as Seneca Valley (8-2-1, 6-0) blanked Allderdice (3-7, 1-5) in Section 3-4A.
Seton LaSalle 1, Bishop Canevin 0 – Sydney Morgan scored the winning goal off a feed from Kennedy Bakota as Seton LaSalle (7-1-2, 6-0-1) topped Bishop Canevin (3-7, 3-5) in Section 3-A.
South Fayette 3, Oakland Catholic 0 – Emily Sinton scored in the first half while Mia Patel and Gabby Beinecke each tacked on a goal in the second half to lead South Fayette (9-3, 6-0) to a Section 3-3A shutout win against Oakland Catholic (4-6, 3-3).
Southmoreland 8, East Allegheny 1 – Aubrey Seder and Mia Jordan scored two goals apiece and Ashley Seder, Hannah Conn, Megan Mehall and Addy Jordan each added a goal for Southmoreland (7-4, 4-2) in a Section 4-2A win over East Allegheny (1-5, 0-5).
South Park 2, Belle Vernon 1 – Ella Voyten scored both goals for South Park (8-4, 8-0) in a victory over Belle Vernon (6-7, 5-3) in Section 1-2A. Abby Russell scored for the Leopards.
Springdale 11, Apollo-Ridge 0 – Bri Ross scored four goals and had three assists while Carissa Walsh and Ariana Caltagarone each netted two goals for Springdale (9-0, 8-0) in a Section 4-A defeat of Apollo-Ridge (1-5, 1-5). Tessa Derringer and Hailey Marchlewski both scored a goal and had an assist while Molly Hurley tallied a goal for the Dynamos.
Thomas Jefferson 4, Laurel Highlands 0 – Olivia Della Lucia scored twice while Sami Maglico and Kayla Marcinko each tallied a goal to lead Thomas Jefferson (6-4, 5-1) to a Section 3-3A shutout win over Laurel Highlands (4-5, 2-4).
Upper St. Clair 6, Baldwin 0 – Abby Mascaro scored two goals while Valentina Sobarzo, Meredith Huzjak, Anelise Castrodale and Callie Roberts each netted a goal as Upper St. Clair (7-2-2, 4-0-2) rolled Baldwin (5-7, 2-4) in a Section 2-4A win.

Charleroi 5, Waynesburg 0 – Dylan Klinger scored a hat trick and Landon Barcus added a pair of goals to lead Charleroi (10-0, 9-0) to a Section 4-2A victory over Waynesburg (2-7-1, 2-6-1). Max Goodwin produced a clean sheet for the Cougars.
Norwin 11, Hempfield 0 – Daniel Maddock had two goals and four assists and Logan Plichta added two goals and two assists for Norwin (7-4, 5-1) in a Section 1-4A win over Hempfield (3-8, 1-5). Camden Ash also scored twice, Chase Molinaro had a goal and an assist and Tanner Schneck, Ryan Schoemer, Caleb Maddock and Alex Krance also scored
Trinity 1, Ringgold 0 (OT) – Brady Anderson scored on an assist from Collin Reihner as Trinity (5-4-2, 5-2-1) edged out Ringgold (6-4-1, 5-2-1) in Section 2-3A.
Girls volleyball
Albert Gallatin 3, Connellsville 0 – Leah Myers and Mya Glisan each had 10 kills and Mia Myers doled out 22 assists to lead Albert Gallatin (5-5) to a three set sweep of Connellsville (1-9) in a nonsection match.
Canon-McMillan 3, Bethel Park 0 – Natalie Carr had 11 kills and 10 digs, Abby Tucker added 10 kills, Sophia Powell had 13 digs and Brooke Peters (19) and Carsen Brown (12) gave out double-digit assists as Canon-McMillan (9-0, 5-0) swept Bethel Park (3-7, 0-5) in a Section 1-4A match.
Girls tennis
Section 3-2A – It will be an all-North Catholic final on Thursday as the top-seeded team of Brea Kelley and Katie Hardy meets No. 3 Samantha Falcon and Evie Marche. Both teams won in straight sets in the semifinals, with Kelley and Hardy defeating Elena and Elyse Brennan of Ellis School and Falcon and Marche dropping No. 2 Eve Kuzneski and Gabby Sharp of Indiana. In Class 2A, the top three teams advance to the WPIAL tournament.
Section 4-2A – After a pair of competitive, three-set semifinals, top-seeded Maddie Arrow and Giada Cappabianco of Neshannock and No. 3 Lily Ceriani and Emma Derringer of Blackhawk will square off for the section doubles title Thursday. Arrow and Cappabianco got past Paige Phillips and Claire Miloszewski of Central Valley, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Ceriani and Derringer outlasted Grace Churovia and Hailey Ziegler of Beaver, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
