High school roundup for Sept. 25, 2025: Seton LaSalle takes down Waynesburg in Century Conference

Kymarr Freeman ran the ball 11 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns and Deondre Hill ran nine times for 84 yards and a score as Seton LaSalle rode its run game to a 41-14 Class 2A Century Conference win over Waynesburg (2-4, 0-2) on Thursday night.

Will Martin and Jonathan Wega each ran in a score and Kia Jones was 7 of 12 for 70 yards through the air with an interception for the Rebels (5-1, 3-0). Tegan Crouse went 6 of 13 for 47 yards passing for the Raiders.

Boys soccer

Allderdice 5, Uniontown 3 – Ethan Voight-Cherna scored four goals, Luca Fuerte added a goal and Jonah Libertus handed out a pair of assists as Allderdice (7-4) defeated Uniontown (3-9) in nonsection play.

Aquinas Academy 7, Serra Catholic 0 – Marco Anselmino scored two goals for Aquinas Academy (7-3, 5-1) in a Section 3-A win over Serra Catholic (3-8, 1-5).

Beaver County Christian 4, South Side 0 – Zach Stephens scored two goals and Liam Birchler and Josiah Bosch added a goal apiece to lead Beaver County Christian (10-0, 6-0) to a Section 1-A win over South Side (2-8-1, 0-6).

Bentworth 6, Greensburg Central Catholic 0 – Adam Moessner scored a hat trick while Ryan Moessner added a goal and an assist and Caden Hackinson and Billy Moyer each buried a goal to lead Bentworth (10-0, 5-0) to a Section 2-A win over Greensburg Central Catholic (1-6, 1-4).

Beth-Center 3, Chartiers-Houston 1 – Parker Amos, Nekoda Bundy and Wyatt Pash scored a goal apiece to lead Beth-Center (8-3, 4-1) to a Section 2-A win. Bryson Boskovich scored for Chartiers-Houston (6-5, 2-3).

Bethel Park 2, Thomas Jefferson 1 – Youssef Benrabia scored both goals for Bethel Park (8-1-2, 8-0-1) in a Section 2-3A win. Logan Barron scored for Thomas Jefferson (10-1-1, 7-1-1).

Brentwood 7, Carlynton 1 – Mohammed Ismael had a hat trick, Palsen Tamang followed with two goals and Ayush Rai and Bryan Correa added a goal apiece for Brentwood (5-4-1, 3-2-1) in a Section 3-A win over Carlynton (0-9-2, 0-5-1).

Deer Lakes 2, Shady Side Academy 2 (2OT) – Collin Rodgers and Maddox Metzler each scored a goal and Artemey Parshyn had a pair of assists as Deer Lakes (9-3-1, 7-1-1) and Shady Side Academy (6-4-1, 6-3-1) battled to a draw in Section 1-2A. Zach Powers and Mark Bence scored for the Bulldogs.

Eden Christian 1, Sewickley Academy 0 – Ayden Shattuck scored to lead Eden Christian (5-6, 3-3) to a Section 1-A win over Sewickley Academy (8-3, 4-2).

Franklin Regional 4, Latrobe 1 – Michael Hillebrand scored a pair of goals while Daniel Todd and Thomas Bridges each added a goal as Franklin Regional (10-2, 5-2) defeated Latrobe (5-6, 4-2) in a Section 3-3A match.

Freeport 7, Leechburg 0 – Spencer Valasek and Dante Treglia each scored a pair of goals to power Freeport (7-4-1, 4-4-1) to a Section 1-2A shutout victory over Leechburg (0-11-1, 0-8-1). Ryan Sutara added a goal and three assists and Easton Smith and Conor Rumbaugh each tacked on a goal for the Yellowjackets.

Gateway 7, Penn Hills 2 – Konrad Wierzchowski had a hat trick for Gateway (4-3, 2-4) in a Section 1-4A win over Penn Hills (3-8-1, 1-5). Ryan Helman, Camden Simon, Grant Karstetter and Jahari Scott also scored for the Gators.

Hampton 3, Obama Academy 0 – Beckett Barton scored two goals and Nico Mangieri added one to lead Hampton (8-1-2) to a nonsection win over Obama Academy (7-4).

McGuffey 3, South Allegheny 0 – Conner Piatt scored a brace and Jaiden Newton opened the scoring for McGuffey (9-3, 6-3) in a Section 3-2A win over South Allegheny (3-9, 2-7).

Montour 3, Baldwin 2 – Brayden Borris scored two goals and Dominic Passaro added one to lead Montour (7-6, 5-3) to a Section 4-3A win. Zack Lieu and Gavin Ries scored for Baldwin (1-10, 1-7).

Moon 3, Ambridge 0 – Jocsan Castillo, Hayden Dunn and Adam Jaszcar scored a goal apiece to power Moon (8-0, 9-3) to a Section 4-3A win over Ambridge (4-7, 2-6). Eric Haupt dished out two assists and Will Guarino kept a clean sheet for the Tigers.

Mt. Pleasant 8, Derry 0 – Tyke Snyder scored two goals and had three assists, Gavin Rummel buried a brace, Grant Zahrobsky had a goal and two assists and Austyn Gross tallied a goal and an assist as Mt. Pleasant (9-4, 8-1) rolled to a Section 4-2A win against Derry (1-9-1, 0-8-1). Tyler Barron and Landon Stuart scored a goal apiece and Grayson Gardner held firm in net for the shutout.

Norwin 4, Hempfield 0 – Tanner Johnson had a goal and two assists, and Joey Walton had a goal and assist as Norwin (5-5-2, 4-1-1) won a Section 1-4A match over rival Hempfield (2-9, 1-5). Danny Metzger and Caleb Maddock also scored for Norwin. Reed Hoyle had the clean sheet.

OLSH 9, Bishop Canevin 1 – Brady Hernandez had a hat trick and Peter Zink added two goals for OLSH (9-0, 6-0) in a Section 3-A win over Bishop Canevin (2-7, 2-4). Owen Minzer, Aaron Callahan, Andre Kolocouris and Grant Griesacker also scored for the Chargers.

Peters Township 1, Mt. Lebanon 1 (2OT) – Anthony Maiello scored for Peters Township (8-0-1, 5-0-1) and Jmaes Havas tallied a goal for Mt. Lebanon (9-2-2, 4-1-1) as the teams played to a draw in Section 2-4A play.

Plum 3, Central Catholic 0 – Austin Kolankowski had a goal and two assists, and Christian Alter and Andy Starsser added goals as Plum (10-1-1, 5-0-1) shut out Central Catholic (7-2-2, 3-1-2) in a Section 1-4A game. Chase Eber posted the shutout for the Mustangs.

Ringgold 1, Laurel Highlands 0 – Jay Jaki scored the lone goal off an assist from Mike Stasko to lift Ringgold (6-5, 5-4) past Laurel Highlands (7-5, 4-5) in Section 2-3A.

Seton LaSalle 8, Ligonier Valley 2 – Tyler Kovalcik had a hat trick, Gavin McMahon added two goals and Mason Foster, Darius Norkevicus and Larry Brown had a goal apiece to lead Seton LaSalle (11-1, 8-1) to a Section 3-2A win over Ligonier Valley (2-9, 2-7).

Shaler 4, Armstrong 0 – Tazanie Hinds scored two goals and Alex Gaetano and Alex Martin-Adler added a goal apiece for Shaler (8-3, 6-2) in a Section 1-3A win over Armstrong (2-9, 1-7).

South Fayette 7, McKeesport 0 – Alex Garbin scored a hat trick to lead South Fayette (3-7, 3-6) to a Section 2-3A win against McKeesport (1-8, 1-8). Jude Kwiatek, Tyce Bectenwald and Lucas Patel each added a goal for the Lions.

South Park 2, Elizabeth Forward 0 – Dawson Battista and Caden Loveland each scored a goal to lead South Park (11-1, 9-0) to a Section 3-2A win against Elizabeth Forward (7-5, 6-3). Cooper Hochendoner kept a clean sheet for the Eagles.

Trinity 8, Albert Gallatin 1 – Cooper Cincinnati recorded a hat trick to pace Trinity (7-4, 7-2) in a Section 2-3A win over Albert Gallatin (1-11, 0-9). Brady Anderson, John Garcia, Jacob Wright, Will Kline and Nathan Jones each added a goal for the Hillers.

Yough 4, Brownsville 0 – Noah Jurcevich buried a hat trick and Isaac Pacacha tallied a goal as Yough (8-2, 7-1) shut out Brownsville (3-10, 1-8) in Section 4-2A.

Girls soccer

Ambridge 3, Mohawk 1 – Norah Marchionda, Myriah Smith and Naveah Cox each deposited a goal as Ambridge (4-6) defeated Mohawk (2-7) in a nonsection tilt. Catelin Bradley scored for the Warriors.

Armstrong 8, Highlands 0 – Aubrey Grafton scored twice for Armstrong (6-5-1) in a nonsection win over Highlands (6-5). Callie Adkins, Lucy Wolfe, Mia Owen, Madalynn Goldstrohm, Sadie Atwood and Ari Adelaar-Good also scored for the Riverhawks.

Moon 6, Chartiers Valley 0 – Kendall Dydek and Hailey Hatton scored two goals apiece and Emma Marquis and Anna Palm added a goal each for Moon (10-1, 8-0) in a Section 2-3A win over Chartiers Valley (3-7-1, 2-5-1).

North Star 6, Ligonier Valley 1 – Emily Johnston, Baylee Sllek, Lei’isa Cruz Quichocho, Maleah Barnick, Kailee Coddington and Anna Raupach each scored a goal as North Star cruised to a nonsection win over Ligonier Valley (2-9). Bella Butler found the back of the net for the Rams.

North Allegheny 2, Peters Township 1 – Emma Schupansky and Mwede Abai scored for North Allegheny (9-2-2) in a nonsection win. Brynn Busch scored for Peters Township (7-1-2).

Sewickley Academy 4, Winchester Thurston 0 – Clair Karsman scored a hat trick and Emilia Carrabba added a goal as Sewickley Academy (9-1) blanked Winchester Thurston (6-3-1) in nonsection play.

Southmoreland 10, Uniontown 0 – Hannah Conn and Ashley Seder each recorded a hat trick to boost Southmoreland (5-6-1) to a nonsection shutout win over Uniontown (0-11). Addy Jordan. Juliette Ice, Gia Vandyke and Bella Henderson each tallied a goal as Megan Potoka kept a clean sheet for the Scotties.

Girls volleyball

Brownsville 3, McGuffey 0 – Skyler Gates led with 12 kills, AiJanae Foster followed with 11 kills and Emma Leigh Bailey had five aces and 14 assists for Brownsville (10-1, 7-1) in a Section 3-2A win over McGuffey (5-3, 4-3).

Chartiers-Houston 3, Bentworth 1 – Sofia Gaussa had 12 kills, Olivia Telegraphis produced 26 digs and Vanessa Kinskey added 14 digs while Zoie McDonald had 22 assists for Bentworth (5-6, 2-6) in a Section 3-2A loss to Chartiers-Houston (8-4, 6-2).

Frazier 3, Greensburg Central Catholic 0 – Maddie Salisbury had 10 kills and 11 assists, Allie Monack added 11 kills and 12 assists and Grace Polkabla had 10 digs to lead Frazier (7-3, 5-0) to a sweep of Greensburg Central Catholic (1-9, 1-4) in Section 4-A.

Indiana 3, Gateway 0 – Paige Fisanich led with 10 kills, Gianna Boyer and Emily Ferraro added seven kills apiece and Hannah Stone had 19 assists for Indiana (9-2, 6-1) in a Section 5-3A win over Gateway (1-4, 1-3).

Mohawk 3, Rochester 0 – Reagan Magno led with nine kills and three blocks, Marli McBride followed with seven kills and Emme Druschel had five kills, four blocks and two aces for Mohawk (8-3) in a nonsection win over Rochester (7-4).

Girls tennis

Section 1-3A – Penn-Trafford’s tandem of senior Annabelle Aquino and sophomore Elle LeJeune captured the Section 1-3A title with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Norwin’s Bayleigh Vilage and Cassandra Halaszynski in the section doubles finals. Latrobe’s Carlin Bukovac and Allison Massaro finished third by defeating Franklin Regional’s Michelle Yan and Sofia Palombo, 6-3, 6-1.

Section 2-3A – The No. 2 seeded duo of Mia Kaufman and Samantha Leeman from North Allegheny defeated top-seeded Elinor Kim and Adeaide Seigworth of North Hills, 6-4, 6-0, in the Section 2-3A doubles title match. In the third-place contest, North Allegheny’s Ruoxi Bai and Alexa Richey bested Raven Karlik and Lauren Cox of Montour, 6-4, 6-0.

Section 3-3A – In an all-Shady Side Academy championship match, second-seeded Brooke Henderson and Alex Merkel defeated top-seeded teammates Cassie Lapina and Taylor Shanefelter, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, to take home the Section 3-3A doubles title. Fox Chapel filled the slots in the third-place match as Zoey Liu and Clara Drahnak took down Eloise Johnson and Victoria Pfendler, 6-2, 6-0.

Section 1-2A – In an all-Mt. Pleasant final, Ryleigh Drzal and Dani Trainer bested teammates Bella Fullman and Hannah Shawley to take home the Section 1-2A doubles title.

Section 2-2A – The top-seeded team of Veronica Zinaski and Marann Buckanovich of Winchester Thurston defeated No. 3 Grace Kempton and Reagan Love of South Park, 6-2, 6-2, for the section title. In the third–place match, No. 2 Luciana Easly and Madeleine Johnson of Oakland Catholic topped Emily Bucchineri and Addy Allen of Ringgold, 6-1, 6-2. In Class 2A, the top three finishers advance to the WPIAL tournament.

Section 4-2A – Top-seeded Madalyn Arrow and Giada Cappabianco of Neshannock defeated the No. 2 seed Blackhawk tandem of Emma Derringer and Lily Ceriani, 7-6 (4), 6-3, to take home the Section 4-2A doubles crown. In the third-place match, Bella Colatriano and Madison Harper of Lincoln Park beat Claire Miloszewski and Elena Phillips of Central Valley, 6-3, 6-0.

Section 5-2A – Top-seeded Jane Lenhard and Kate Miller defeated second-seeded Livia Jobbins and Grace Jadlowiec in a three-set battle of Quaker Valley teammates for the section title. Maggie McBride and Allie Swift of Aquinas Academy beat Victoria Sgard and Clara Lukasiak of Sewickley Academy, 6-2, 6-4, for third place.
