High school roundup for Sept. 27, 2025: Penn Hills runs past Shaler

Doryan Peay rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns to lead Penn Hills to a 36-7 victory over Shaler in Class 5A Northeast Conference football Saturday.
Devin Harris threw for 121 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 76 yards and one TD for Penn Hills (2-4, 2-0), which outgained Shaler, 433-177. Aaron Aversa threw for 90 yards and a touchdown for Shaler (1-5, 1-1).
Boys soccer
Allderdice 3, Erie McDowell 1 – Ethan Voight-Cherna scored two goals to lead Allderdice (8-4) to the nonsection win over Erie McDowell.
Avonworth 13, Mohawk 0 – Nate Kline collected two goals and three assists, Jackson Shields had two goals and an assist and Hal Bevington also scored twice to lead Avonworth (10-1-1, 8-1-1) to a Section 2-2A win over Mohawk (1-10, 1-9). Jimmy Quinn and Alpha Diallo added a goal and an assist for the Antelopes.
Beaver 4, Keystone Oaks 1 – Zach Orend had two goals, Anthony Furda picked up a goal and an assist and Seth Kullen also scored as Beaver (9-2, 9-2) beat Keystone Oaks (4-7, 4-7) in Section 2-2A play.
Bentworth 6, West Mifflin 0 – Adam Moessner scored four goals to lead Bentworth (10-0) past West Mifflin (2-8-1) in nonsection play. Ryan Moessner added two goals and an assist while Caden Hackinson and Blake Lusk recorded two assists each. Isaac Vipperman posted the shutout.
Butler 2, Kiski Area 0 – Noah Ernst and Cade Hanley scored to lead Butler (6-6) to a nonsection win over Kiski Area (2-10).
Canon-McMillan 2, South Fayette 1 (OT) – Gavin Patterson netted the winner in overtime and Levi Good also scored to lead Canon-McMillan (9-2) to a nonsection win over South Fayette (3-8).
Franklin Regional 2, Plum 0 – Michael Hillebrand had a goal and an assist and Fabrizzio Costa also scored as Franklin Regional (11-2) defeated Plum (10-2-1) in nonsection play.
Freeport 7, Greensburg Central Catholic 1 – Ryan Sutara scored a hat trick and Liam Dunn, Caleb Passarelli, Dante Treglia and Spencer Valasek each had a goal to power Freeport (8-4-1) to a nonsection win. Grant Brewer scored for Greensburg Central Catholic (1-7).
North Allegheny 3, Hampton 2 (OT) – Owen Lopresti scored the overtime winner to lead North Allegheny (7-3-2) to a nonsection win. James Hetherington and Kevin Chen also scored for the Tigers. Carson Colvin converted a penalty kick and Matteo Sciulli also scored for Hampton (8-2-2).
West Allegheny 2, Seton LaSalle 0 – In nonsection play, Caden Gnoth and Aaron Bouch scored second-half goals as West Allegheny (6-4) shut out Seton LaSalle (11-2).
Girls soccer
Avonworth 4, Carlynton 1 – Megan Obersteiner and Karalyn Kelleher scored two goals each as Avonworth (8-6) defeated Carlynton (5-4-1) in a nonsection game. Riley Mauro scored Carlynton’s goal.
Burrell 2, Winchester Thurston 1 – Katie Koehler and Eva Wilson scored to send Burrell (8-2-1) to a nonsection victory over Winchester Thurston (6-4-1).
Butler 2, Kiski Area 0 – Cecelia Wolford scored a pair of goals, including a successful penalty kick, to lead Butler (5-5-1) past Kiski Area (5-5) in a nonsection matchup.
Freeport 1, Mt. Pleasant 0 – Elena Jenkins scored off of an assist from Peyton Los with two minutes left in the second overtime to give Freeport (9-1) the nonsection win against Mt. Pleasant (8-3-1). Alyssa Alcorn recorded the shutout.
Norwin 2, Plum 1 (OT) – Bella Buscemi scored the winning goal in double overtime as Norwin (9-2) handed Plum (9-1) its first loss. Leesia Phetsomphou also scored in the nonsection win for the Knights.
Penn-Trafford 4, North Hills 0 – In nonsection play, Tori Yurt had a goal and two assists as Penn-Trafford (6-5-1) shut out North Hills (2-8-1). Ellie Lebe added one goal and one assist.
South Fayette 2, Canon-McMillan 1 – Silvanna Rossi and Emma Ferrari scored and Mia Deramo dished out a pair of assists to send South Fayette (9-1-1) to a nonsection win over Canon-McMillan (4-5-1).
South Park 2, Thomas Jefferson 1 – Reese Recker and Avery Rispoli scored goals for South Park (13-0) in its nonsection win against Thomas Jefferson (7-6). South Park has allowed only two goals this season while scoring 65.
Cross country
Youthtowne Clash – North Catholic’s Tyler Carroll (16:12.99) and West Allegheny’s Grace Fritzman (18:39.55) won the varsity races. Led by Will Kuchera (sixth) and Eli Coffey (eighth), Allderdice won the boys team title. Led by Madeline Meeuf (sixth) and Caroline Sell (ninth), North Catholic took first in the girls team race.
