High school roundup for Sept. 30, 2025: Fox Chapel outduels Seneca Valley in Class 4A clash

Carson Torres, Sean Regan and Rocco Poli scored to lead Fox Chapel to a 3-2 victory over Seneca Valley in a matchup of the top two teams in Section 3-4A boys soccer Tuesday night.
The Foxes (11-1, 7-0) swept the season series with the Raiders (10-2, 5-2). Michael Pokrzywinski and Benny Baronner scored for Seneca Valley.
Aquinas Academy 7, Carlynton 0 – Linus Burchill’s first career goal sparked Aquinas Academy (8-3, 6-1) to a Section 3-A win over Carlynton (0-10-2, 0-6-1).
Avonworth 1, Keystone Oaks 0 – Nate Kline scored the decisive goal to carry Avonworth (11-1-1, 9-1-1) past Keystone Oaks (4-8, 4-8) in Section 2-2A.
Beaver 9, Hopewell 1 – Anthony Furda buried four goals and Ryan Perez added a brace to power Beaver (10-2, 10-2) to a Section 2-2A win over Hopewell (4-6, 4-5). Luke Conner, Jake Peluso and Seth Kullen each tacked on a goal for the Bobcats.
Bentworth 11, Chartiers-Houston 1 – Ryan Moessner (four) and Adam Moessner (three) each had hat tricks to lead a quintuplet of scorers for Bentworth (12-1-1, 7-0) in the Section 2-A win over Chartiers-Houston (6-4-1, 4-3-1). Billy Moyer had two goals, while Cameron Butler and Blake Lusk each had one.
Bethel Park 10, McKeesport 0 – Jason Koerbel, Xavier Jackson and Youssef Benrabia had two goals apiece and Cooper Kicinski, Rowan Darr, Jacob Coffield and Luke Rubican also scored for Bethel Park (9-1-2, 9-0-1) in a Section 2-3A win over McKeesport (1-11, 1-9).
Blackhawk 3, Brashear 0 – Will Brown, Simon Haberman and Justin Miles scored for Blackhawk (3-10, 2-7) in a nonsection win over Brashear.
Butler 1, North Hills 0 – Noah Simmons scored the winning goal with an assist from Noah Ernst and Thad Mago earned the shutout in goal for Butler (7-6, 2-5) in a Section 3-4A win over North Hills (7-6-1, 1-5-1).
Charleroi 8, Greensburg Salem 0 – Dylan Klinger scored twice, Blake Pendo had a goal and two assists and Otis McIntyre and Adolph Noel each collected a goal and an assist to lead Charleroi (10-2, 9-0) past Greensburg Salem (4-10, 3-7) in Section 4-2A. Ethan Hartley and Andrew Levin also scored and Mike Lee converted a penalty kick for the Cougars.
Chartiers Valley 3, Baldwin 0 – Jonah Mastren-Williams had a goal and an assist, Luke Waldron and Sam Miller also scored and Sean Walsh recorded the shutout in goal for Chartiers Valley (6-4, 6-2) in a Section 4-3A win over Baldwin (1-11, 1-8).
Deer Lakes 6, Highlands 1 – Artemey Parshyn had two goals and an assist and Collin Rodgers also scored twice to lead Deer Lakes (10-3-1, 8-1-1) to a Section 1-2A victory. Peyton Kushon finished with a goal and an assist and Colton Bish also scored for the Lancers. Ty Hall scored for Highlands (5-5-1, 4-5-1).
Elizabeth Forward 3, McGuffey 0 – Luca Valerio scored twice and Aidan Davis added a goal for Elizabeth Forward (8-5, 7-3) in a Section 3-2A win over McGuffey (9-4, 6-4). Nick Moffa recorded the shutout.
Hampton 8, Kiski Area 0 – Mason Hall had a hat trick and Xavier Ware finished with a goal and two assists to lead Hampton (9-2-2, 6-0-2) past Kiski Area (2-11, 2-7) in Section 1-3A. Beckett Barton had a goal and an assist and Carson Colvin, Lewis Bacasa and Wyatt Bonfili also scored for the Talbots.
Hempfield 2, Penn Hills 1 – Braden Crowe converted a pair of penalty kicks to lift Hempfield (3-9, 2-5) to a Section 1-4A win over Penn Hills (2-9-1, 1-6).
Latrobe 3, Belle Vernon 0 – John Massaro scored twice and Pietro Bonandi added another goal to lead Latrobe (6-6, 5-2) past Belle Vernon (7-7-1, 5-3) in Section 3-3A.
Laurel Highlands 3, South Fayette 2 – Jack Narin scored a pair of goals and Cole Radcliffe added another as Laurel Highlands (9-5, 5-5) topped South Fayette (3-9, 3-7) in Section 2-3A. Tyce Rectenwald scored both goals for the Lions.
Mars 2, Indiana 1 (OT) – Frank Knezovich scored to lead Mars (8-4-2, 6-1-2) past Indiana (5-7-1, 2-5-1) in Section 1-3A.
Moon 2, West Allegheny 1 – Hayden Dunn scored on a penalty kick and Olek Sushko delivered the game-winner to lift Moon (10-3, 9-0) past West Allegheny (6-5, 5-3) in Section 4-3A. Harrison Murray scored for West A.
Neshannock 1, Beaver County Christian 0 (OT) – Zayden Herb scored the winning goal with two minutes left in the second overtime to help Neshannock (11-3-1, 3-3-1) hand Beaver County Christian (11-1, 6-1) its first loss of the season in Section 1-A.
North Allegheny 2, Pine-Richland 1 (OT) – Emmett Morris scored a pair of goals, including the overtime winner, both off throw-ins by Francis Randiga, to lead North Allegheny (8-3-2, 4-2-1) to a Section 3-4A win. Jordan Crutchfield scored for Pine-Richland (4-8-1, 1-6).
OLSH 3, Brentwood 0 – Brady Hernandez scored two first-half goals and added another in the second half to lead OLSH (10-0, 7-0) to a Section 3-A shutout win over Brentwood (6-5-1, 3-3-1). Pat Alatmar kept a clean sheet for the Chargers.
Peters Township 3, Canon-McMillan 1 – Charlie Lulich, Cam Glass and Keedan Kelly scored as Peters Township (9-0-1, 6-0-1) beat Canon-McMillan (9-3, 4-3) in Section 2-4A. Cole Debbis tallied the lone goal for the Big Macs.
Plum 3, Gateway 0 – Christian Alter, Corey Nese and Eli Vasil scored and Chase Eber and Jack Majcher combined on the shutout as Plum (11-2-1, 6-0-1) defeated Gateway (4-8, 2-5) in Section 1-4A.
Serra Catholic 4, Bishop Canevin 3 – Nate Petty had two goals and an assist and Tyler Graham also scored twice to send Serra Catholic (4-8, 2-5) to a Section 3-A win over Bishop Canevin (2-8, 2-5).
Seton LaSalle 8, Steel Valley 0 – Tyler Kovalcik scored four goals, Darius Norkevicus added three, Max Goob also found the net and Charlie Kicinski recorded the shutout for Seton LaSalle (12-2, 9-1) in a Section 3-2A win over Steel Valley (3-9, 2-8).
Shady Side Academy 9, Burrell 1 – Mark Bence recorded a hat trick and Zach Powers tallied a pair of goals as Shady Side Academy (7-4-1, 7-3-1) cruised to a Section 1-2A win over Burrell (4-10, 4-6). Paul Benec, Beau Brush, Manek Gerhardy and Kyle Delismas each added a goal for the Bulldogs.
Shaler 1, Knoch 0 – Conor McClean scored the lone goal for Shaler (9-3, 7-2) in a Section 1-3A win against Knoch (4-7-1, 3-4-1). Brian Hegerty kept a clean sheet in goal for the Titans.
South Allegheny 6, Ligonier Valley 4 – Kaden Gatchie buried a hat trick while Brayden Hernandez, Adam Jackowski and Jacob Frum each added a goal to boost South Allegheny (4-9, 3-7) past Ligonier Valley (2-10, 2-8) in Section 3-2A.
Southmoreland 1, Derry 0 – Liam Smith scored the winning goal for Southmoreland (7-7, 5-5) in a Section 4-2A win over Derry (1-10-1, 0-9-1).
Thomas Jefferson 2, Albert Gallatin 0 – Sam Wessel scored a goal and recorded the shutout in net, leading Thomas Jefferson (11-1-1, 8-1-1) past Albert Gallatin (1-12, 0-10) in Section 2-3A. Owen Householder also scored and Gavin Kern had an assist for the Jaguars.
Trinity 3, Ringgold 2 – Cooper Cincinnati scored a pair of goals and Brady Anderson added a goal and two assists as Trinity (8-4, 8-2) defeated Ringgold (6-6, 5-5) in Section 2-3A. Mike Stasko and Isaiah Wilson scored for the Rams.
Trinity Christian 4, St. Joseph 0 – Cameron Wright scored a hat trick to lead Trinity Christian (5-6, 4-2) past St. Joseph (1-7, 1-6) in Section 4-A.
Upper St. Clair 2, Mt. Lebanon 1 – Ishaan Gupta and Rafael Sarlas scored as Upper St. Clair (3-8, 3-4) knocked off Mt. Lebanon (9-3-2, 4-2-1) in Section 2-4A. Ignati Darakos scored for the Blue Devils.
Girls soccer
Highlands 5, Valley 1 – Ella Prager scored a hat trick while Alyssa Jameson and Emma Napierkowski each tallied a goal as Highlands (6-6) defeated Valley (0-9) in nonsection play.
Winchester Thurston 5, Apollo-Ridge 1 – Jesse Kaufman had a hat trick and Iris Jarrin and Chengxi Tao also scored to send Winchester Thurston (7-6-1, 4-3-1) to a Section 4-A win over Apollo-Ridge (0-6, 0-6).
Field hockey
Ellis School 1, Winchester Thurston 0 – Anna Morowitz scored the winning goal on an assist from Kate Habershaw, leading Ellis School (2-4-1) to a Class A win. Gracie Correll-Hunt and Sophie Wood combined on the shutout.
Girls volleyball
Beaver 3, Mars 0 – Kailyn Connelly had 17 kills and Jaedyn Brown added 10 kills and 10 digs to lead Beaver (10-1) to a nonsection win over Mars (9-3). Aubrey Bumblis had 27 digs and four aces and Kayden Blinn finished with 37 assists and 12 digs for the Bobcats. For Mars, Cecilia Christy had 13 kills, Rylee Wooldridge added 10 kills and Gabi Weidemann collected 25 assists and 12 digs.
Brownsville 3, Washington 2 – Skyler Gates had 21 kills and nine blocks and Aijanae Foster added 15 kills and five blocks to lead Brownsville (11-1, 8-1) to a five-set win over Washington (4-5, 4-5) in Section 3-2A. Ashley Evanchak finished with 10 digs and Abigayle Thomas had six kills and three blocks for the Falcons.
South Allegheny 3, Keystone Oaks 0 – Ally Chizmar record 11 kills, two blocks and one ace as South Allegheny (11-3, 8-2) defeated Keystone Oaks (4-7, 4-5) in Section 2-2A. Regan McBeth had 10 kills and Cadence McBride had five blocks and a kill for the Gladiators.
Hempfield 3, Baldwin 0 – Jillian Sowers recorded 22 kills and Ella Berkibile followed with 11 kills to lead Hempfield (7-3, 5-1) to a nonsection win over Baldwin (5-5, 2-4). Preslee Horchak dished out 26 assists for the Spartans, reaching the 1,000 mark for her career.
Indiana 3, Franklin Regional 0 – Paige Fisanich had 12 kills, Gianna Boyer added seven kills and three blocks and Hannah Stone dished out 20 assists to lead Indiana (10-2, 7-1) past Franklin Regional (5-6, 4-4) in Section 5-3A. Rylin Blystone had added five digs and three aces and Chloe Hain had eight assists for Indiana.
Mohawk 3, Laurel 1 – Marli McBride had 21 kills while Macey Tanner tallied 16 assists and Riley Shaffer dished out 13 assists as Mohawk (8-3, 5-2) bested Laurel (6-5, 3-5) in Section 4-2A.
Seneca Valley 3, Canon-McMillan 1 – Natalie Carr had 18 kills to reach the 1,000 mark for her career as Canon-McMillan (7-4) fell to Seneca Valley (5-6) in a nonsection match.
St. Joseph 3, Union 1 – Kate Giannetta produced 29 digs and 18 kills and Kenzie Jones added 26 digs and eight kills to power St. Joseph (7-5, 5-1) to a nonsection win over Union (4-6, 3-3).
Hockey
Armstrong 3, Bishop McCort 1 – Jake Graff scored a pair of goals and had an assist while Jonas Miller chipped in a goal to lead Armstrong (1-0) to a Class 2A win over Bishop McCort (0-1). Jordan Stormer scored for McCort. Cole Ruffaner stopped 27 of 28 shots for the Armstrong.
Peters Township 5, Franklin Regional 4 – Jacob Hlawati, Alexander Nath, Matteo Hardoby, Brendan Monko and Cameron Caruso scored to lead Peters Township (1-0) past Franklin Regional (0-1) in Class 3A. Brendan Yohe, Joey Casella, Liam Murphy and JJ Tensuan buried a goal each for Franklin Regional.
McDowell 6, Knoch 5 – Dylan Payne scored five goals, including three in the third period, to lead McDowell (1-0) to a Division 2 win. Ross Triola also scored for McDowell. Brady Linamen had two goals and two assists, Zach Weiland also scored twice and Synjun McHattie added a goal for Knoch (0-1).
Neshannock 6, Trinity 1 – Jacob Gruber had two goals and an assist and Reece Feury, Ryan Hazi, Christopher Johns and Cole Chornick also scored to help Neshannock (1-0) to a Division 2 win. Seamus Coyle scored for Trinity (0-1).
