High school roundup for Sept. 6, 2025: Central Catholic drops Woodland Hills at Pro Football Hall of Fame

Owen Herrick threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score to lead Central Catholic to a 58-20 victory Saturday over Woodland Hills in the Pro Football Hall of Fame High School Classic at Tom Benson Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
Herrick hit Maceo Watkins with a 75-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to give the Vikings the lead for good. He also connected with Max Roman from 36 yards out and Aiden Nasiadka from 24 yards.
Roman Thompson scored three rushing touchdowns for Central Catholic (2-1), including a 36-yarder, and Sami Tapu scored on a 12-yard fumble return.
Scoop Smith caught a pair of touchdown passes from Cam Walter, a 6-yarder and a 46-yarder, for Woodland Hills (1-2). Elijah McGuire added a 20-yard rushing score.
Freedom 43, Summit Academy 16 – Kaden Bailey scored on a 42-yard pass from Karter Brown, a 60-yard punt return and a 13-yard run as Class 2A Freedom (2-1) beat Class A Summit Academy (0-3). Brown threw for 49 yards and ran for one touchdown. Syamir Newkirk threw for 82 yards and both Summit Academy touchdowns.
Boys soccer
Beth-Center 12, South Allegheny 0 – Nekoda Bundy scored five goals and Parker Amos tallied two goals and five assists as Beth-Center (5-1) downed South Allegheny (1-5) in a nonsection game. Wyatt Pash added two goals and Hunter Bobbs chipped in one goal and two assists.
Chartiers-Houston 2, South Side 0 – Jhersson Cruz and Josh Hawkins scored and Braulio Melena recorded the shutout as Chartiers-Houston (3-4) beat South Side (2-3-1) in nonsection play.
Neshannock 3, Grove City 2 – Gabriel Moses, Zayden Herb and Zach Lough scored for Neshannock (5-0-1) in its nonsection win against Grove City.
North Catholic 1, Cathedral Prep 1 (OT) – Austin English scored to help North Catholic (4-1-1) to a draw with Cathedral Prep.
North Hills 2, Deer Lakes 1 (OT) – Tyler Myers scored a pair of goals, including an overtime winner, to power North Hills (5-1-1) to a nonsection victory. Sam Dischner scored for Deer Lakes (4-2).
Penn Hills 5, Burrell 0 – Adam Alaali scored twice and Chase Gonzales Delehanty added a goal and two assists to lead Penn Hills (2-3-1) to a nonsection win over Burrell (2-3). Oshea Ward and Jesse Truman also scored.
Plum 2, Latrobe 0 – Kent Holmes scored and Chase Eber recorded the shutout as Plum (4-1-1) beat Latrobe (1-3) in a nonsection game.
Riverview 4, Serra Catholic 0 – Freshman Mason Bodnar had two goals and an assist to lead Riverview (3-3) to the nonsection win against Serra Catholic (1-3). Tristan Groenvynck and Korbin Cooper teamed up for the shutout.
Seton LaSalle 4, Eden Christian 0 – In nonsection play, Tyler Kovalcik scored three goals and Charlie Kicinski recorded the shutout as Seton LaSalle (6-0) beat Eden Christian (1-4).
Trinity 5, Albert Gallatin 0 – John Garcia scored three goals to lead Trinity (3-1, 3-0) to the Section 2-3A win over Albert Gallatin (1-4, 0-3). Joel Young picked up the shutout.
Girls soccer
Beaver 2, Chartiers Valley 0 – Jocie Biela and Ana Hahn scored goals and Cali Coups recorded six saves for the shutout as Beaver (3-3-1) beat Chartiers Valley (1-4) in a nonsection game.
Beth-Center 1, South Allegheny 0 – Taylor Sawicky scored on a second-half penalty kick as Beth-Center (3-1) shut out South Allegheny (1-4) in nonsection play.
Deer Lakes 3, Keystone Oaks 0 – Tessa Hollibaugh, Addy Gally and Bri Simonetti scored second-half goals as Deer Lakes (5-0) beat Keystone Oaks (3-4) in nonsection play. Mikayla Potter picked up the clean sheet.
Freeport 4, North Hills 0 – CeCe Schlegel scored twice, Camryn Woods had a goal and two assists and Alyssa Alcorn recorded the shutout as Freeport (3-1) blanked North Hills (2-2) in a nonsection game. Ella McConville also scored for the Yellowjackets.
Norwin 5, Franklin Regional 0 – Leesia Phetsomphou had two goals and Cameryn Reed, Gianna Marts and Nicole Bown also scored to power Norwin (3-2) to a nonsection win over Franklin Regional (3-2).
Penn-Trafford 3, Shaler 3 (OT) – Ellie Lebe had a goal and an assist and Emilie Oslosky and Mia Mastroianni also scored to help Penn-Trafford (1-2-1) tie Shaler (2-1-1) in a nonsection match. Naudia Zotter scored twice and Gabby Alcalde also had a goal for the Titans.
Pine-Richland 2, Moon 1 (OT) – Charlie Kline scored the overtime winner, assisted by Emme Kline, to lead Pine-Richland (6-0) to a nonsection win over Moon (4-1). Aubrey Bennett also scored for the Rams.
Seneca Valley 5, Latrobe 0 – Anna Iaquinta scored twice and Maddie Marcotte, Sophia Lawryk and Cassie Leonard added a goal each to lead Seneca Valley (2-1-2) past Latrobe (0-4) in nonsection play.
Serra Catholic 8, East Allegheny 0 – Bella Dumbroski had four goals and one assist to lead Serra Catholic (2-2) past East Allegheny (0-2) in a nonsection game. Milena Poziviak added two goals and one assist.
South Park 1, Mt. Pleasant 0 – In nonsection play, Arianna Beck scored the game’s only goal as South Park (6-0) defeated Mt. Pleasant (3-1-1).
Cross country
Red, White & Blue Invitational – Norwin’s Annie Czajkowski won the Class 3A race at White Oak Park to lead the Knights to the girls team title. Anna Dansak (ninth) also finished in the top 10 for Norwin.
Shady Side Academy teammates Charlotte Barker and Josephine Lenart finished 1-2 to lead the Bulldogs to the girls Class 2A team title.
Charlie Heese of Latrobe won the boys Class 3A race with a time of 15:37.0 while, led by fifth-place finisher Jonathan Stetchock and eighth-place Ryan Ewing, Hempfield took the team title.
Jack Steineman of North Catholic won the Class 2A boys race with Grove City taking the team title.
