High school roundup for Sept. 8, 2025: Emily McKee sparks Fox Chapel in matchup of ranked teams

Emily McKee scored both goals to lead Fox Chapel to a 2-1 victory over Mars in a matchup of ranked teams in Section 1-3A girls soccer Monday.

Mackenzie Powell scored for the Fightin’ Planets. Fox Chapel (5-1, 3-0) is ranked second in Class 3A by Trib HSSN. Mars (4-2, 1-2) is ranked fifth.

Allderdice 1, North Hills 0 – Alexa Leventon scored the winning goal and Emma Daly recorded the shutout as Allderdice (5-1) defeated North Hills (2-3) in a Section 3-4A exhibition match.

Beaver 5, Hopewell 0 – Alaina Mollura scored twice, Bella Marino had a goal and an assist, Ana Hahn dished out three assists and Cali Coups made six saves for the shutout as Beaver (4-3-1, 1-1-1) beat Hopewell (0-4, 0-2) in Section 3-2A. Madeline Porto and Mia Furda also scored for the Bobcats.

Belle Vernon 1, McGuffey 0 – Ali Watson scored with an assist from Payton Walsh and Rory Bastedo made eight saves to preserve the shutout as Belle Vernon (4-1-1, 2-1-1) blanked McGuffey (2-3, 1-2) in Section 1-2A.

Bentworth 14, California 2 – Brielle Dillon collected four goals and Megan Keturakis, Madelyn Johns and Brooke Leonetti each scored twice to power Bentworth (4-1-1, 2-0) to a Section 2-A victory over California (1-3, 0-2), the program’s 200th win. Bella Moyer, Kate Keturakis, Joelie Conkle and Jesse Laskey also scored for the Bearcats.

Burrell 1, North Catholic 0 – Leah Waldsmith scored the decisive goal, assisted by Eva Wilson, and Casey Brancato recorded the shutout as Burrell (4-1-1, 2-0) got past North Catholic (5-2, 1-1) in a Section 1-2A clash.

Carlynton 8, Bishop Canevin 0 – Riley Mauro scored twice and Bella D’Antonio and Great Schriver each had a goal and an assist to lead Carlynton (2-2-1, 2-1) past Bishop Canevin (1-3, 1-3) in Section 3-A. Sophia O’Brien, Mary Crawford, Shania Purdom and Chloe Baum also scored and Gigi Choate had a pair of assists for the Cougars.

Central Valley 3, Ambridge 0 – Gianna Gasperine, Chloe Haney and Aubrey Grater scored and Reagan Patten dished out two assists to help Central Valley (1-1-1, 1-0-1) past Ambridge (2-3, 0-2) in Section 3-2A.

Franklin Regional 3, Greensburg Salem 0 – Alyssa Velasquez scored twice, Elliana Canfield added and goal and Addison Ayres recorded her fourth shutout of the season, leading Franklin Regional (4-2, 3-1) to a Section 4-3A win over Greensburg Salem (2-4, 1-2).

Freedom 8, Mohawk 0 – Brianne Casto scored four goals, Sophia Bruce added two and Trinity Votjko preserved the shutout to lead Freedom (2-2, 2-1) to a Section 1-A win over Mohawk (1-3, 0-2). Farisa Roberts and Mackenzie Mohrbacher also scored for the Bulldogs.

Freeport 11, Valley 0 – Camryn Woods had a hat trick, reaching the 50-goal mark for her career, as Freeport (4-1, 2-0) defeated Valley (0-3, 0-2) in Section 2-2A. Elena Jenkins scored twice, Nia DiSanti and Makenna Woodside each had a goal and an assist and Ella McConville handed out three assists for the Yellowjackets. Alyssa Alcorn and Sophia Crawford combined on the shutout and Ella McConville, Natalia Urik, Sofia Slanicka and Stella Burd also scored.

Greensburg Central Catholic 2, Ellis School 1 – Ainsleigh Stickle scored pair of goals to power Greensburg Central Catholic (1-1, 1-1) past Ellis School (1-3, 0-3) in Section 4-A.

Highlands 14, Carrick 3 – Ella Prager scored five goals, Alyssa Jameson netted four and Natalie Dickerson had three to lead Highlands (2-3) to a nonsection win. Payton Bundy and Cialie Pentarek also scored and Ella Fennell and Hailee Rankin each had three assists. Bria Linton scored a hat trick for Carrick (0-1).

Keystone Oaks 9, Charleroi 0 – Aly Simon had her second hat trick of the season, Braidy Lugaila and Michela Robbins each scored twice and Bella Bischof and Nina DeWeese added a goal apiece to help Keystone Oaks (4-4, 3-0) past Charleroi (0-6, 0-4) in Section 1-2A.

Kiski Area, 4, West Mifflin 1 – Ellie Arnold scored twice, Tess Shaffer netted her first varsity goal and Addison Buffone also scored in a Section 4-3A win for Kiski Area (3-2, 3-1). Jada Downs scored for West Mifflin (1-4, 0-3).

Latrobe 11, Woodland Hills 0 – Emerson Shine had a first-half hat trick and Annalyse Bauer scored twice to lead Latrobe (1-4, 1-1) past Woodland Hills (0-3, 0-2) in Section 1-4A. Vivia Brunton, Maddie Silvis, Ella Plundo, Mackenzie Kubistek, Ellie Petruzzi and Geli Dent also scored while Liv Ross had three assists and Gianna Trunzo recorded the shutout for the Wildcats.

Moon 3, West Allegheny 0 – Anna Palm, Anya Schwartz and Quinn Arnold scored as Moon (5-1, 4-0) defeated West Allegheny (3-4, 2-1) in Class 3A. Ainslie Romasco recorded the shutout for the Tigers.

Montour 5, Bethel Park 1 – Irelynn Hobbs netted four goals and Kaci Mitcheltree also scored to send Montour (5-0, 3-0) to a Section 2-3A win. Caitlyn Coates scored for Bethel Park (1-5, 1-3).

Penn-Trafford 11, Hempfield 0 – Ellie Lebe had a hat trick, Emilie Oslosky scored twice and Allannah Hall kept a clean sheet to lead Penn-Trafford (2-2-1, 2-0) past Hempfield (0-5, 0-2) in Section 1-4A. Anna Coy had a goal and two assists and Aishlinn Connolly and Ava Oslosky each had a goal and an assist for the Warriors.

Peters Township 5, Connellsville 0 – Five players scored for Peters Township (3-0-2, 2-0) in a Section 2-4A win over Connellsville (2-3-1, 0-2). Goal scorers were Milena Gill, Mandy Pirosko, Fallan Malley, Brynn Busch and Livia Adamshick.

Pine-Richland 0, North Allegheny 0 (OT) – Shea Best recorded the shutout for Pine-Richland (6-0-1, 1-0-1) and Jordan Beemer kept a clean sheet for North Allegheny (5-1-2, 1-0-1) in a Section 3-4A draw.

Quaker Valley 2, Avonworth 0 – Kallie McCune and Rowan Wallace scored and Ava Hajock made eight saves to secure the shutout and lead Quaker Valley (5-1, 2-0) past Avonworth (4-3, 2-1) in a matchup of top teams in Section 3-2A.

Riverview 2, Winchester Thurston 1 (OT) – Hannah Hudack scored the winning goal in the second overtime and Mary Quinlan also found the net for Riverview (4-0, 4-0) in a Section 4-A win over Winchester Thurston (3-3-1, 1-1-1).

Seneca Valley 4, Butler 1 – Karly Majeski scored twice and Anna Iaquinta and Cassie Leonard added a goal apiece to lead Seneca Valley (3-1-2, 1-0) to a Section 3-4A win. Kara Lubinsky scored for Butler (2-3, 0-2).

Serra Catholic 7, McKeesport 0 – Milena Poziviak and Bella Dumbrowski each had hat tricks and Bailee Dayton contributed a goal as Serra Catholic (3-2, 1-2) shut out McKeesport in a nonsection win.

Shady Side Academy 2, Knoch 1 – Ella Van Norman scored both goals for Shady Side Academy (2-2, 1-1) in a Section 2-2A win over Knoch (1-5, 0-2).

Shaler 5, Obama Academy 0 – Naudia Zotter had a goal and two assists and Paige Querio recorded the shutout to lead Shaler (3-1-1) to a Section 1-3A exhibition win over Obama Academy (1-6). Liv Claycomb, Addy Paladin, Zoey Cieslak and Caroline Decheck also scored for the Titans.

South Fayette 8, Albert Gallatin 0 – Mia Deramo scored twice and Cait Thompson and Lainey Kuglar combined on the shutout to lead South Fayette (4-1-1, 2-0) past Albert Gallatin (1-5, 1-2) in Section 3-3A. Silvanna Rossi, Gabby Beinecke, Lexi Deutschendorf, Kate Black, Nora Davidovich and Lily Chiappetta also scored for the Lions.

Southmoreland 5, Ligonier Valley 2 – Ashley Seder and Hannah Conn each had a pair of goals and Mylee Street also scored to send Southmoreland (3-2-1, 2-0) past Ligonier Valley (1-4, 0-2) in Section 4-2A.

Springdale 2, Eden Christian 1 (OT) – Lacey Shondeck scored the overtime winner and Hailey Marchlewski also had a goal as Springdale (3-0-1) defeated Eden Christian (2-3) in a nonsection match.

Waynesburg 3, Beth Center 0 – Kolbi Rastoka scored two goals, Emily Raffery added another and Waynesburg (6-1, 1-1) beat Beth-Center (3-2,0-2) in Section 2-A.

Yough 13, East Allegheny 0 – Daisy Miller had a hat trick and 10 other players found the net as Yough (1-4, 1-1) blanked East Allegheny (0-3, 0-2) in Section 4-2A. Cougars goal scorers were Nevieah Thompson, Leah Slavick, Addison Watkins, Gillian Baloga, Lucy Knepp, Britany Baumeister, Mya Kutler, Kate Slavick, Gionna Piontka and Carly Fitzgibbons.

Boys soccer

Yough 2, Belle Vernon 1 – Jake Booher and Brycen Watkins scored to lead Yough (3-2) to a nonsection win over Belle Vernon (3-4-1).

Girls volleyball

Beaver 3, Upper St. Clair 1 – Kailyn Connelly had 20 kills, Jaedyn Brown recorded 14 kills and 15 digs and Lanie Malobabich had 12 kills and three blocks to lead Beaver (4-0) to a nonsection win over Upper St. Clair (3-2). Aubrey Bumblis had 40 digs and Kayden Blinn finished with 37 assists and 18 digs for the Bobcats.

Brownsville 3, California 1 – Skyler Gates had 22 kills, including the 1,000th of her career, to lead Brownsville (5-0) to a nonsection win over California (4-1). Kenzie Adams handed out 24 assists, Abigayle Thomas had 15 service points and Lena Rechichar added 12 service points for the Falcons.

Frazier 3, Southmoreland 0 – Addison Schultz had nine kills and five blocks, Maddie Salisbury added seven kills, Allie Monack dished out 13 assists and Addison Hiles finished with 16 digs to lead Frazier (3-1) to a nonsection win over Southmoreland (2-2).

Mohawk 3, East Palestine 1 – Mari McBride had 10 kills, Reagan Magno had seven kills and five blocks and Riley Shaffer had 10 assists to guide Mohawk (4-1) to a nonsection win over East Palestine. Sara Hampson added 12 digs and five kills for the Warriors.

West Mifflin 3, Woodland Hills 0 – Kamryn Favers had five kills, Sami Kovalsky recorded 10 digs and Sidney Nagel served six aces to lead West Mifflin (2-3) to a nonsection win over Woodland Hills (0-4).

Field hockey

North Allegheny 7, Norwin 0 – Addison Burns had a hat trick and Grace Zahorchak recorded the shutout as North Allegheny picked up a Class 3A win.
